That's because engine builders were in competition, there were also 7 different makes of cars racing. Today 3 and they are all set up even. That's why you don't see anyone pull away. It's not even racing today.
Most fans have been hard on Mikey in recent years (myself included, and it’s really just for the booth antics) but I think all of those crashes have legitimately effected his health as he’s gotten older, it wouldn’t be out of the blue
@Dat-Mudkip They ran in the family, and I loved DW so Mikey is gonna have some of that in him. Plus if there wasn't a Waltrip in the booth after all these years, it would feel like something is missing. Waltrip screams NASCAR

I feel bad for petty, it was late in his career, he was finally having a good run, and he gets piled up in a wreck not of his fault.

Damn... Mikey is always in bad crashes. There was one you did at most a week ago that had Mikey take that 30 car and pancake the passenger side
I have no doubt he has suffered several undiagnosed head injuries.
The fact his career lasted as long as it did is a miracle.
