That's what made that Pepsi 400 so special. I was 4 and it's the earliest race I vividly remember. I didn't understand then, but it was really the perfect ending to such a tumultuous story.

@@dynamoproductions5 especially with him on top of the car, celebrating with the fact that Michael Waltrip was only focused on pushing Dale Junior to the victory, returning the favor and allowing them all to celebrate finally and the fucking redemption after Dale Senior got killed six months earlier. PS: I think this race also is equally important where Dale Junior had the dominant car at Dover that day to win the first race in Dover not far from Washington DC in the first race following the September 11th attacks!

      He really did.
DJ was a really good fit with the Yates team. Folks back in my grandpa's time are all about that Wood brothers HP but in my time as 90s kid if you was a Ford fan, you wanted a Yates engine or a Yates prepared racecar. I'd like to say Roush too but I remember Roush blowing A LOT of engines 😅, He wasn't bad at all but you get my point.

to this day, obviously nowadays with stage racing, it’s hard to ever do this again, even on the road courses without the stage breaks, I find it insane with that aero package that the last two caution free races in NASCAR history occurred in the 2001 Talladega spring race & the 2002 Talladega fall race!

Despite the very somber start of losing the greatest suck car driver of all time dealer Earnhardt, I would have to think that with how much he built up DEI and how prepared he was to enter the 2001 season. I really believe it would’ve come down to him, Jeff Gordon, Dale Jared, Ricky ride, Tony Stewart for the championship. It could’ve rivaled the 1992 finale in terms of how close it could’ve been, until Jeff Gordon pulled away after winning the inaugural Kansas race, making it through the big one at the end of the Talladega race and being consistent after swapping the lead back-and-forth and it being a close point battle, even through the Richmond race and the southern 500 prior to 911 which could’ve made the New Hampshire race mean so much more it was the most exciting seasons in Winston Cup/NASCAR cup series, despite losing the greatest, but also seeing his son takeover on the restrictor plate tracks the way he did in order to four in a row at Talladega (almost 5in a row but finished 2nd to Michael Waltrip in the 2003 Talladega fall race after that crazy Elliot Sadler flip in that race & the same race a year later: Elliot Sadler suffered some of the worst wrecks I’ve ever seen but because of the safety put in place saved him from worse issues along with flipping @ the start/finish line!) and with Dale Jr. winning the following year’s 2004 Daytona 500 and the 2004 Talladega spring & fall races finishing 2nd then 1st.
