PRIMER FEED TIP: Sprinkle a little bit of powdered graphite onto your primer tray before refilling it with the primers. It allows the primers to slide down the chute much better.

If you can't properly set up and use a progressive reloading press, you shouldn't be reloading. Remind me to stay away from you at the range. I have two Lee Pro 1000's set up. One of them is over 28 years old and still going strong.
Thanks so much for this video. A good friend got this loader from his son who bought it used at a garage sale. My friend took it apart to clean it, and guess who got to put it back together! I did some research and the one thing I did not see (and had to figure out) was the little spring that allows the primer setting pin to drop far enough to allow a primer to slide in. Your tips on watching the detonators slide down each time, giving the detonator holder a tap once in a while, and keeping the primer tray full was quite helpful. Once the Lee Pro-1000 is set up, the detonator feed is the most troublesome area, and if you can keep an eye on that, things go fairly well. Having two people working it when first starting out is helpful. This reloader is like something from Rube Goldberg. It does a lot, and so there are a lot of things that can go wrong. But you best advice of, if something does not feel right, stop and figure it out, is excellent. The first time we got it working we made about 7 rounds in three hours with set up time included. The third time we made about 175 rounds in about 90 minutes. Your statement of there being a learning curve is excellent. We use a good scale and weight the rounds, and also a caliper to occasionally check the length of the finished round. We also have a set of plastic dental picks to clear jammed primers and such. When a load of powder spills out because a primer was not in place the plastic pick can be used to slide the line of primers up the chute and canned air can be used to blow out the loose powder. We then remove any brass in place and spin the brass carrier around to be sure it is clear. Again, Thanks for the video.

A lot of extra money for a Dillon. A Dillon will cost about $1200.00 or more. Unless you are a competition shooter, it would be a very expensive route to go.
Great tips, Thanks. I noticed that you had a 9mm case upside down in the case feeder closest to the camera. I saw a neat trick to stop 9mms going upside down on another user's video. He stuck a small square of one sided sticky plastic over the centre to slightly reduce the entry to the tube holes. Neat.
Great video. I recently got my pro 1000 running smoothly and have a few other tips: 1) I clean the primer feed ramp with a pipe cleaner before I use it 2) I periodically use canned air to blow away any loose flakes of powder that fall from the powder hopper. 3) The powder hopper can fit on the base two ways. I read it'll work either way, but found mine spills powder if you don't put it on the way Lee says too.
Really good video I am just starting to understand the process and this explains most issues you may have with the machine really well. is anybody else using this machine or would you recommend another machine for starters?
what I did w my pro 1000,was I took primer post out and hit post w small chisel and hammer where pin on primer trough rides 7 or 8 times up post,to leave extra small bumps on post,no more primers not feeding down trough,shakes primer reservoir more. Works great!
Awsome video Bud just a query I found I had a timing problem where my press wasn’t fully Bottoming ! Nice video. Helped me to decide to purchase this press. But plz remove your spring or let people know how this can cause a double case charge. So far the stock design has worked well on mine. Even spending some time bending the shell feed wire just right has taken care of that problem. Thx and God bless!!!
The spring wont cause it to double charge only the operator can do that. You cant rely on the chain either the only thing that can prevent a double charge is paying attention!!!!!! :)
Case activated powder measure with spring return is the BEST, use them in all my Lees. Only chance of double charge is I/O error...Idiot Operator! I am guessing you have no experience with the spring versions of the Lee Powder measures?
Maybe swhite10539 didn't read my post (got to much hate in the blood). Yes I am new to this press. That's why I wrote this video helped me decide to buy it. Yes you can blame it on the operator for double charging a case because it has a spring but that can be a safety issue that is worth noting. I can assure you I am no idiot. Keep hating Mr. swhite10539, it's what seems to make the world go round these days!
It's a legit concern. Humans are fallible. No one is perfect. The chain works for me so far. And if it's adjusted right won't reset the powder measure until you're at the bottom of the stroke and a new case is under the powder measure. This helps prevent double charges and why Lee set it up that way originally. They just used a garbage chain and most people adjust them too tightly.
I actually bought a spring that was 1/2" longer & so far, I haven't had any issues with that aspect of this press. Occasionally when a new case is dropped, it will fall over and I've got the height adjusted on the case feed so that it rarely happens, but I have to always keep an eye on it, or I end up jamming & causing other issues.
I enjoy your how to videos very much, thanks for taking the time to help people out. I have been using a 4 hole turret machine for .223, 300BLK & 40S&W and an RCBS RS press for 243, 30-30 & 308 for a few years . I do all the case prep (tumbling, cut primer crimps, resizing and cleaning primer pockets) before I start loading so I do no primer work on the press as it is a dirty mess. I have a Lee Pro 1000 that came in a trade that I want to use exclusively for 40S&W, can I remove all the primer parts from the press without messing anything up? Thanks in advance. Jim Sr.

first off I love the videos and the attention to detail. I have the pro 1000 as well and love it,just have to mess with it a little. I will have to adjust the timing screw on the bottom of mine because that was the only problem I had was it not advancing enough and it was hanging up on a primer. one question I had was that once you get the timing right, do you experience powder being thrown out a little when it advances to the next station and that ball clicks into space? mine seems to snap hard and if I don't hold it from doing it powder will be thrown out of the casing. any thoughts would be appreciated thanks

Mate I have managed to put tension on the "Z Bar" so it wont pop out. No need for a twist tie. You simply loosen the long tool head bolt. Push the rectangular aluminum flat that holds the bar, to the right. This put tension on it and stops it from popping out of the case slider.
to continue... 4) I also ditched the chain for a spring, but double charged a case once, so be careful! I'll only use it with bulky powders (like Trailboss) that are obvious when double charged. I caught it when I went to seat the bullet. 5) It was easier for me to get the feel of the press using new, unfired brass. Having clean primer pockets made primer seating easy and consistent from case to case.
Great job as usual. I'm searching for some advice on a problem I have with this press. When the brass goes up unto the flare/charge die it sticks on the way down which causes me to pull down so hard it shakes the brass out of the holder and it goes all over! I have adjusted the flare to as little as possible, I lube the cases, even on the inside lip but still get stuck when flared. Have you seen this? Anybody?
Back the die out a little so it flares the case less. Whats happening is the flare is actually binding up on the side wall of the die on the way out because its do much. Back it out little by little until its not sticking on the way down. You want the flare on the case just enough so you don't damage the case or bullet when seating it no more no less. Hope that helps

Im about to buy a press and im hung up between getting a lee pro 1000 or a lee load master. Do you feel the loadmaster is worth the extra cash? I have watch several videos and it almost seems that the loadmaster has more issues. i look forward to hearing your feedback. I shoot around 1000 9mm a month and may also look into reloading 223 in the future.
I am about to start loading on a Pro 1000 and I do own a LoadMaster. I have found the case feed to be very tricky on these but once you have it down, it works well. The indexing on the LoadMaster does not appear to be as nice as the Pro 1000. However, the LoadMaster gives you 4 holes if you need an extra station for a taper crimp. I load 38 on my LoadMaster and have an RCBS powder check die installed in my extra hole for double checking the powder throw. So, it might depend on what you want to do with it.
1) "Frame" is not made from Aluminum but Steel. At least at mine. 2) replacing the ball chain actuated by the movement of the shell plate carrier you give up on one safety precaution and allow double charge. The ball chain works or can be replaced by spring assisted rod or other solution still providing the safety function
The shell plate is threaded on the shell plate carrier make sure its tight. Hold the rod that goes through the center of the shell plate carrier in place and turn the shell plate by hand till its tight. Also make sure the end of the rod that has the twist is on the bottom of the shell plate carrier..
I can't thank you enough. I bought one second hand and know zero about reloading. Your video helped me the most hands down with priming issues and a few little things missing on mine I noticed. I'm reloading 9 mm and I still can't find what chamber on the disk I set for powder dispense. It has it highlighted at .59 but until I resolve the primers and that pin that pushes up in timing with the plate...I'm trying. Can You just pop over and set it up for me PLEASE. JK I'm getting there slowly thanks to this video. Any suggestions?
+Kriveshin Chhana It should be cleaned If not it can gum up your dies and jam up your firearm. Its best not to cut corners with any steps when reloading.
Primer pocket reamer. Hornady makes the best: www.brownells.com/reloading/case-preparation/primer-pocket-tools/reamers-swagers/primer-pocket-tools-prod44393.aspx Make sure you get the "reamer" and not the "cleaner". The reamer will ream(and remove military crimp), clean and uniform the primer pocket.
no specific size you just want it strong enough to pull the disk back reliably but not so strong that it requires lots of extra force to move the disk.
Lee also sells an actuator bar and spring to replace the one it comes with. This setup uses the small hook indentation on the Powder body and the spring attaches to the new L shaped actuator arm. They work very well in this arrangment to. The parts are just a few bucks from Lee.
Your Z bar is popping out because you haven’t adjusted the aluminium block on the top correctly loosen the big bolt above it and rotate it slightly clockwise looking down from above and then tighten that bolt again and that’ll hold it in perfectly
I don't know of any 9mm that has anything but a small primer pocket, no crimp primer pocket. I am no expert, but I have loaded about 2000 rounds of 9mm, mostly with range brass with different head stamps. I do organize my brass by brand, but it is not necessary. All 9mm Luger/NATO/9x19 is TAPERED slightly.....
Most all self defense ammo in 9mm has crimped primer pockets almost all nickle case will have crimped primers. A few brands of 9mm Remington brass are crimped primers and all lake city (LC) has crimped primer pockets. WCC 80 (Western Cartridge Company) is a 9mm military head stamp they to have crimped primer pockets.
Lee makes great presses.....However, Not These presses. I can't believe you have two. Now,...Every time I watch a vid on "problems" w/ presses, Its always this press. You could have combined ya money and purchased "quality" The word for the day chiren is..................Quality! BTW, Good vid!
You say the timing screw under the shell plate can be turned both ways to adjust shell plate timeing - No No No!! It can ONLY be turned clockwise. If your shell holder goes past the position you have to wind it all the way around until it comes again to the position. Read the Lee instructions. They are correct. Trying to reverse the screw /plate just strips the internal nylon cog. This is prob one if the major stuff ups folk make with this press. Next. Best advice you can give is get rid of the priming operation. Put powder die in position 1, bullet seating in 2 and factory crimp in 3. Resize and prime OFF the press. Solves all issues.
Every company's press has its idiosyncrasies. Dillon's xl650 has primer feed problems(besides being way overpriced). Hornady's Lock and Load's auto case feeder has problems.
Your telling people to defeat the safety on their powder measures! That chain is there so you don’t double charge a case. With most powders this isn’t a problem, but their are some. I use my pro disk with stick powders and the chain all the time. You should at least warn people that they’re defeating the safety on the measure. Its your liability, you’ll be the one that’s sued for this. I just wanted to let you know. Not trolling you. Later.
Let me give you a a small clue: You moving the camera around is NOT fun for the viewer. You seem to want to move the camera constantly. How many Hollywood movies do this? NONE. You may have good content, but it's giving me a headache so I'm stopping the video. TD.

That zee bar attachment is adjustable so the bar won't fall out and you won't need a wire tie. Lee videos shows how to make the adjustment. Very easy.

I am getting ready to buy one of these reloaders for a 40 S&W. Is there anything extra I need to buy other than the funnel?
do you have any experience with the Lee Loadmaster ? curious if it is worth the extra price over the 1000 for pistol ammo reloading.
Great info,but for pistol I like the classic turret,slower yes but you can see the primer and charge load easily.

Back it out little by little until its not sticking on the way down. You want the flare on the case just enough so you don't damage the case or bullet when seating it no more no less.

All depends on how valuable your time is and how mechanically inclined you are.
$174 and the fun of tinkering or $800 still some tinkering.
Every company's Progressive press has its idiosyncrasies, Dillon xl650, Hornady Lock and Load Etc all have their problems.
What happens when you get to that piece of brass that is upside down in the tube? Does it get jammed and bent in the shell holder or just fall free?
You have to pay attention to the brass when it happens you just flip it over. If you don't force the press you wont have any issues

Im about to buy a press and im hung up between getting a lee pro 1000 or a lee load master. Do you feel the loadmaster is worth the extra cash? I have watch several videos and it almost seems that the loadmaster has more issues. i look forward to hearing your feedback. I shoot around 1000 9mm a month and may also look into reloading 223 in the future.
I am about to start loading on a Pro 1000 and I do own a LoadMaster. I have found the case feed to be very tricky on these but once you have it down, it works well. The indexing on the LoadMaster does not appear to be as nice as the Pro 1000. However, the LoadMaster gives you 4 holes if you need an extra station for a taper crimp. I load 38 on my LoadMaster and have an RCBS powder check die installed in my extra hole for double checking the powder throw. So, it might depend on what you want to do with it.
1) "Frame" is not made from Aluminum but Steel. At least at mine. 2) replacing the ball chain actuated by the movement of the shell plate carrier you give up on one safety precaution and allow double charge. The ball chain works or can be replaced by spring assisted rod or other solution still providing the safety function
If the z bar keeps slipping out of the hole on your case feeder there's a good chance you have it installed backwards.

First, great videos. I just received my Pro 100, got it put together and the shell plate won't rotate to the next station.. Any Ideas?
The shell plate is threaded on the shell plate carrier make sure its tight. Hold the rod that goes through the center of the shell plate carrier in place and turn the shell plate by hand till its tight. Also make sure the end of the rod that has the twist is on the bottom of the shell plate carrier..

I can't thank you enough. I bought one second hand and know zero about reloading. Your video helped me the most hands down with priming issues and a few little things missing on mine I noticed. I'm reloading 9 mm and I still can't find what chamber on the disk I set for powder dispense. It has it highlighted at .59 but until I resolve the primers and that pin that pushes up in timing with the plate...I'm trying. Can You just pop over and set it up for me PLEASE. JK I'm getting there slowly thanks to this video. Any suggestions?
Do you pre-clean your 9mm cases?
Yes they get cleaned in a tumbler beforehand.
Would there be any adverse effects if you don't clean the cases?
+Kriveshin Chhana It should be cleaned If not it can gum up your dies and jam up your firearm. Its best not to cut corners with any steps when reloading.

Make sure you get the "reamer" and not the "cleaner". The reamer will ream(and remove military crimp), clean and uniform the primer pocket.
zip ties (wire ties) work good on the primer feed system.
The spring looks like one of those springs on a folding camp chair.
I am having trouble getting the correct flange on the powder fill die the flange seems to be to large
the spring you used for charging die does it need to be specific in resistance or any spring will do?
no specific size you just want it strong enough to pull the disk back reliably but not so strong that it requires lots of extra force to move the disk.

Lee also sells an actuator bar and spring to replace the one it comes with. This setup uses the small hook indentation on the Powder body and the spring attaches to the new L shaped actuator arm. They work very well in this arrangment to. The parts are just a few bucks from Lee.
If you buy the auto disk powder measure on it own it comes with lees spring set up as well as the chain

Your Z bar is popping out because you haven’t adjusted the aluminium block on the top correctly loosen the big bolt above it and rotate it slightly clockwise looking down from above and then tighten that bolt again and that’ll hold it in perfectly

I don't know of any 9mm that has anything but a small primer pocket, no crimp primer pocket. I am no expert, but I have loaded about 2000 rounds of 9mm, mostly with range brass with different head stamps. I do organize my brass by brand, but it is not necessary. All 9mm Luger/NATO/9x19 is TAPERED slightly.....
Most all self defense ammo in 9mm has crimped primer pockets almost all nickle case will have crimped primers. A few brands of 9mm Remington brass are crimped primers and all lake city (LC) has crimped primer pockets. WCC 80 (Western Cartridge Company) is a 9mm military head stamp they to have crimped primer pockets.
Some brass also has tight primer pockets. Older S&B brass used to give me problems getting primers into the pockets.
I'll stick with my Lee Turret Press. I have no issues.. even with "stick" powder..

You say the timing screw under the shell plate can be turned both ways to adjust shell plate timeing - No No No!! It can ONLY be turned clockwise. If your shell holder goes past the position you have to wind it all the way around until it comes again to the position. Read the Lee instructions. They are correct. Trying to reverse the screw /plate just strips the internal nylon cog. This is prob one if the major stuff ups folk make with this press. Next. Best advice you can give is get rid of the priming operation. Put powder die in position 1, bullet seating in 2 and factory crimp in 3. Resize and prime OFF the press. Solves all issues.

Your telling people to defeat the safety on their powder measures! That chain is there so you don’t double charge a case. With most powders this isn’t a problem, but their are some. I use my pro disk with stick powders and the chain all the time. You should at least warn people that they’re defeating the safety on the measure. Its your liability, you’ll be the one that’s sued for this. I just wanted to let you know. Not trolling you. Later.
