Very good video and explanations. A few expansions to your info. COL is cartridge overall length. There is a case length for trimming cases. Lee's number on the disk is a volume number. using the generic density of the powder, Lee calcs a volume as a starting point based on the weight of powder desired. Lee is usually a little conservative in the thrown weight of powder. the chart is available in 2024 as a down load from the Lee website. the 4.0 grains you where throwing would reduce the velocity of the bullet around 30 fps from your loading data. in most instances, not enough to warrant a change to a different volume. the powder auto disk is activated by the case pushing up a hollow drop tube. the tube has a starting diameter to expand the inside of the case to allow tension on the bullet. the upper section of the tube has a taper that flairs the top of the case. moving the threaded section of the powder measure up or down varies the taper on the case. for cast bullets, this is very important as the reduced diameter will shave off lead. a jacketed bullet will usually side in OK. it is the taper that can work harden the brass and cause splitting, us only as much as is really needed to seat the bullet. when throwing the first throws of powder, I will throw a few double charges and immediately return to a safe depository for the powder, taping case upside down to make sure no powder is stuck in the case. this gives me a reference of the level of too much powder when visually checking during actual reloading. again, you did cover a lot of good information in an easy to understand method

Just got the 9mm bullet feeder and when the bullet drops it stays ontop of the fingers instead of falling through like in the video . Are the fingers supposed to spread open when they are under the bullet die. Or did lee send me the wrong set up. The hole in the fingers is the size of a 223 round roughly for a visual .

Even 10 years old, this video helped me get my bullet feeder setup and running. I have one of the newer Lee Pro 1000 presses and I purchased the bullet feeder for .45 Auto. I've had to make quite a few discoveries of my own, due to Lee Precision's really bad manuals and other documentation. I finally got the press fully automated and I've figured out that (not because of the difficulty, but because of the time consumption) it might be worth buying a complete second press to setup and avoid having to change everything over for reloading 300 Blackout. Thanks for the video.

I don't know if this was pointed out already but the part you keep calling a shell plate is actually called the shell plate carrier. The shell plate is the part with the slots for the shells. Good video, thanks for helping out with this.

Im struggling with the case feeder for 223. mine will regularly drop more than one case due to that shot case pusher and too much play in the feeder. otherwise it seems to work great.

My 2022 estimate is based on reloading 380, 9mm and 223 ammo, a single stage press, Lee dies for each caliber, a lee decapping die, a lee powder measure, a frankford arsenal wet tumbler, lee swager, lee bulge buster kit, lube tray, steel pins, manual, trimmers, deburrer, additional lighting, and a bench. My equipment cost in 2020 was $950. In 2022, probably $1,100 My average 380 rounds material cost was18 cents. I made about 500 rounds My average 9mm rounds material cost was 19 cents I made about 2,200 rounds My average 223 rounds material cost was 28 cents. I made about 1,000 rounds Because I have a stockpile of primers, powder and bullets if you were to start in 2022; my estimated material costs are the 380's would go for 25 cents, the 9mm 27 cents and the 223 would go for 37 cents. The time spent scavenging brass, cleaning brass and reloading was about seventy to ninety hours. Then there is the time spent looking for primers, powder and bullets. At one point I was spending an hour a week just looking on the internet for primers. As of November 2022, my equipment and material cost have reached a break even point compared to the prices at the time I reloaded. As long as my time is free. Special note, as ammo prices went up and ammo got scare, so did the cost of primers, powder and bullets. Primers were non existent for 10 months. I have 4 stores I can buy primers and powder at, and most of the time they are out. I now have eight hundred dollars invested in powder, primers and bullets in storage. It is a couple years worth of shooting supplies. When any of them reach a certain point I start looking again. Reloading is not for everyone. The time involved is more than some can invest. The initial costs for equipment and supplies, same, it can be like paying a month's rent. Also, if you are easily distracted, don't like to follow or read instructions, don't like safety glasses, cut corners because you think you might get away with it, don't have time or space, reloading may not be for you. Reloading can be safe or it can be dangerous. It is your choice. A solid bench is a requirement, there's a lot of torque on the press at times. When my wife saw the lighting I was using she commented that I could tan while making ammo. Lighting and the bench must be figured into the equation. The space in the house for equipment, cleaning, reloading and supplies is significant. But I deeply enjoy reloading, it is a quiet solitary pursuit. It is details to take care of. It is equipment to clean, lube and maintain. My wife is on board with the investment and the time spent. But not all wives are like that. If you and your family can handle the investment of time, space and money, go for it. But consider all things first.

Your Z bar is popping out because you haven’t adjusted the aluminium block on the top correctly loosen the big bolt above it and rotate it slightly clockwise looking down from above and then tighten that bolt again and that’ll hold it in perfectly

The problem I've been having is that when the finger picks up the bullet and it's about to go over the case the bullet drops and I don't understand why it's like the fingers are not strong enough to hold on to it or maybe the fingers are moving too quickly I tried slowing down and I've tried going a little bit faster does anybody have any suggestions

I guess I am old fashioned ( anyone have or come across any old lee stuff / parts at garage sales or dusty old under bench boxes please contact me I will purchase all and pay shipping )
