HOW TO DO A MOON SALUTATION - for a calming and cooling practice

  • This is the Sun Salutation's lesser known sister! Chances are you've never done a Moon Salutation in class before, but it is a beautiful sequence that's great for when you need a calming practice that won't overstimulate you. It's the perfect flow to wind down before bedtime.

    I look forward to moon salutation. I'm an evening yogi so I prefer the calm and cooling connection to the nature ... as the night comes so do the cooling temps (usually). Thank you so much!

    How many full cycles are recommended?

      You're welcome! 😊 There really is no set number of cycles you need to do. It all depends on how you're feeling on that day, whether or not you did some other movement before or after, your mood, what benefits you want to get out of it etc. You could start with 2 and see how you feel after that.

    I like this a lot, but I can't manage the side lunge. I'll have to figure out blocks for a while, otherwise this is accessible and calming

      Thank you! Yes the side lunge is quite difficult. You don't have to go down very far to start off with. You can place a block in front and rest your hands on it. Over time with practice, you'll notice an improvement 😊

      Hi, there's no set number of cycles you need to do. It depends on how you feel, what you want to get out of it, if you did any movement before or after etc. You could start with 2 and see how you feel after that.

      Hi, the Moon Salutation is traditionally practiced when the moon is visible, and especially during a new or full moon. But you can practice it any time you want a more calming sequence where you don't want to overstimulate yourself, or any time you feel you need to calm your energy. As for when after eating, I probably wouldn't do it straight after eating, but it really depends on how you feel. You could practice it just before going to bed. It's is a great way to wind down at night.
