How do you reheat your pizza? What's the longest you've left pizza in the fridge and still eaten it??? PS - you can use REVUE50 to get 50% OFF your first Factor box plus 20% off your next box at bit.ly/48aQQag!
A tip for leftover pizza. Your fridge dries out everything, so don't leave it in the original box. Once cooled, put it in a ziplock bag or in plastic wrap.
I always move the pizza to a sealed package before storing. The quality goes down much quicker if you use the to go box. Also, the toaster oven is a magnificent way to reheat the leftovers. 6 minutes is the sweet spot for my unit.
Same here but I feel like for this experiment that the drying out might helped him not get sick from it. It's like he cured it or something. Putting it in a bag helps preserve moisture which might have helped bacteria grow after that long.
Microwave with a water cup is how I reheat most things. Pizza, noodles, pasta, rice, anything that’ll change texture in the microwave. The water cup prevents it. Game changer!
I use a slightly damp paper towel and do twice the time at 50% power. That's the best result I can get from a microwave. Cast iron pan on stovetop is my favorite way to reheat followed by air fryer.
This is the method I learned as well. Keep the heat about medium to medium-low for 6ish minutes total. After about 4 minutes I like to take the lid off to prevent the top from getting soggy. Let’s the steam escape and gives the bottom crust time to crust.
Yup. 😂 It's the only way I do it. And it's even better if you brush just a little bit of good quality olive oil on the bottom of the pan, and Spritz the top of the pizza with water. Delicious!
This method is phenomal for pizza from a local shop without all the preservatives (makes it taste fresh, and i can eat cold pizza hut all day so, no need to reheat that) but depending on your stove and pan size I CAN ONLY EVER REHEAT 1 SLICE AT A TIME IN THE PAN 😭, way too much effort for anything after 2 slices.
if you have one that’s absolutely the best option. in middle school we had a toaster oven and everyone would heat up leftover pizza in said toaster oven. I don’t have one now though
The crispy bits is corn meal, that is used to sprinkle in the pan before baking to keep the dough from sticking to the pan. I used to work at 2 major pizza chains and the both did the same thing.
I think key to keeping some of that moisture is to use a zip top gallon size plastic bag to store the slices. The refrigerator will dehydrate the pizza in the boxes pretty effectively. Keeping the slices in a sealed up plastic bag helps preserve more of the original goodness.
some thoughts during the video 1) Cheese is already a low-moisture food + has a lot of fat, which means that it will lose moisture more slowly. The lower the amount of "free water" in food, the harder it is to remove more of it. 2) The moisture/water in bread is not entrapped in the bread's gluten as securely as cheese. This is because it is starting with more "Free water." That's why the crust and the dough will go stale and become harder to eat faster than the cheese. I think the curling of the dough is more likely it losing moisture (and therefore size) faster than the cheese. 3) Surface area is also a big factor in moisture loss. While pepperoni is a cured meat that should in theory lose water more slowly compared to dough, it's sliced pretty thin so it will dry fairly quickly. Same thing with the surface area of cheese, which will likely impact how fast it leaves. 4) Moisture leaves from the outside first. That's likely why the edges of the cheese became translucent first. 5) I'm guessing the tomato sauce oxidized. Pretty sure tomatoes oxidize when exposed to air for a decent while. 6) Thin layer of fat in the form of butter on crust might also help slow down moisture loss, but not that significantly. The length of time the pizza was baked for, the amount of each ingredient added by each restaurant, and the thickness of the slice will probably impact the slice too.
Sugar in the dough also impacts the rate at which is absorbs moisture from other sources as well as maintaining the water content present (its what's called a Humectant). Salt and certain syrups are also Humectants, which have the added benefit of slowing bacteria growth.
@@smalltime0 Yes. They also lower the water activity of food dramatically which is why gas station pastries can last for so long (they have a lot of oil, salt, and sugar to preserve them by dropping their water activity). I’d say it’s a plus to win in _this_ particualr instance. Bread naturally have a good shelf life. The music-oriented stuff was fun - I’m not very gifted musically but it was a fun creative challenge. Would love to get back to a multi-segment format at some point if there’s an audience for it! Really appreciate you taking the time to ask
I found this video in my suggested and I definitely agree with your New Haven pizza recommendation for Connecticut style but the best I’ve was Lombardi’s in nyc imo
the air fryer is the best way to reheat pizza!!! But, if you dont have one, I have also used a hot pan on the stove. Put the pizza slice on it, then a small amount of water-may a tablespoon max- on the pan but keep the water away from hitting the crust (so put the pizza and water on opposite sides of the pan). Then put a lid on top. The result is a perfect crispy crust and melted cheese!
Try this, microwave your pizza just to get it hot (30 seconds or so per slice) THEN throw it in the air fryer! It's a game changer! This way, you don't have your pizza become crunchy from the air fryer!
Best method I've found is hot pan in the oven! Preheat to 350 or 400 depending on the pizza size/type, with the pan inside. Put the pizza on the hot pan once oven reaches temp, and heat for 5 minutes. Closest I've gotten to fresh since working at Domino's :)
I prefer my leftover pizza cold, BUT when I reheat I use a pizza steel. I like to make my own pizza when I can and having a pizza steel is so much better than a stone but for reheating pizza it works well too. Preheat the oven to 500, let the leftover pizza warm at room temp while the pizza steel heats, drop the slices on once the oven and steel a ripping hot and then check every two minutes or so until it's (re)done to your likeness. The bottom should be fried and extra crispy and the toppings warm and melting.
Best pizza reheat method imo: a few drops of oil in a hot skillet, crisp the bottom of the pizza slices, add a few drops of water, cover with a lid to steam/re-melt the cheese. You're left with a slice that's super crispy on the bottom and melty on top, and even better than it was when fresh!
My preferred method of reheating pizza is to microwave the pizza till the top reaches a temp around 100-110 F. Then put it in a pan on medium/low - Medium heat area and it helps keep the pizza from being spongy and wet. Don't walk away from the pizza though, I've burnt the leftovers so many times lol.
The absolute best way to reheat pizza is microwaving it for 30 seconds (per slice) then throwing it in the air fryer for just a couple minutes. This way, your pizza isn't too soggy from the microwave or too crisp/crunchy from the air fryer!
My reheat method is simple. - Give it a light spritz of water to add moisture back to it - Put on a plate, and cover with paper towel so the moisture stays in during the microwave process - Microwave for 2 minutes for one slice, 2 minutes and 30 seconds for 2 slices.
I go with a standard microwave reheat for my Domino's leftovers. I can eat the pizza cold, but that 45 seconds in there or so makes a solid difference.
My man, you've gotta ziploc those leftover slices. Just leaving them in the box in the fridge is a recipe for disaster. Also, 60 seconds on 50% power in the microwave and then 3 minutes on Toast in the toaster oven. Well, that's how I reheat my wife's. I'm part of the #ColdPizzaGang.
I eat dominos pretty regularly, I get the 12" medium pizza with extra sauce, helps a ton with reheat-ability. I reheat about 4 slices on a paper plate for 1:30 on power 8 (80% power) in my microwave. Sometimes I'll add a wet paper towel over the pizza to reintroduce some moisture, but that only does a little, its still a bit dry. I find I usually have to eat the pizza within the first 3 days after ordering, otherwise it loses its flavor, texture and moisture.
throw pizza in the microwave (bonus points if its on the plate that bagel bites come on) for about a minute, then throw it in the toaster oven until it's crispy, gets the bottom nice and crunchy and the cheese gooey with minimal effort
I reheat my pizza by either putting it on broil in the oven for 5 mins or so, or I’ll put it on the stovetop for 10 mins with some water and covering in the middle so the condensation keeps the cheese moist
I reheat on a skillet, and once it's pretty hot I drop a tablespoon of water on the side of the skillet and cover it to steam the and melt the cheese and cook the toppings. honestly this has saved even week old slices for me. Also I'm in my 30's and have never gotten sick from eating week old pizza.
thats the first I've heard of the 2 hour rule. this morning I ate a leftover taco bell stacker that had been sitting on the counter for about 15 hours. I feel fine and the stacker was delicious.
It's a food service requirement, which are usually overkill to account for the stupidity of the average worker. 15h is definitely more than I'd recommend, though. At that point it basically comes down to your gut and other environment factors whether you regret it.
I enjoyed this video a lot. At the same time, this has to be some of the most useless information my brain has ever latched onto. I will be telling people for years about the decay factor of pizza from different pizza chains while they respond "oh, interesting" to be nice. Thank you Sam Reid for feeding my (literal) autism, 🤣
As someone who loves both cold and reheated pizza, Papa Johns def lasts the longest even though Domino's is my go to for 3, especially when I want something to last me a few days. For me in general, cold pizza is great for 3-4 days (depending on the pizza) and then after that you gotta reheat like in the air fryer.
Preservatives don't really mean a bad thing, and many seasonings we use every day in our doughs, toppings, and sauces contain natural preservatives like oils (pepperoni, etc), salt, acid (that can eat certain bacterias), as well as good bacterias that can hold off rotting in things like cold toppings we put on after the pizza is cooked like shredded cheeses and basil, etc. So it's really hard to determine which actually has the most preservatives in a way that makes sense. Some companies just use more salt, that alone could create a large margin.
Well there's straight up preservatives but then there's standard stuff like salt. Which will preserve but also dehydrate I guess. Where as grease will help reduce dehydration.
@@matthewzaloudek Pizza Hut has the highest salt content in it's sauce and pepperoni of the three tested, That is probably why it lasted the longest with the least degradation. The high salt content is why I can eat Pizza Hut anymore, which is sad because I loved Pizza Hut when I was younger.
For reheating pizza in the microwave, I fill a microwave safe cup with a small amount of water and place it in the microwave with the pizza. Then heat for 45 to 60 seconds depending the size of the slice. It comes out nice and steamy with the cheese re-melted, so GOOD!
Here's my time tested, certified, best way to reheat leftover pizza. First of all, the preparation is paramount! Instead of storing the pizza in its box, put it into an airtight container! This way, it loses significantly less moisture. When the time comes that you're ready to have a leftover slice, break out the air fryer, and pre-heat it to 450 for 3 minutes. Pop in up to 2 slices at a time, cooking them at 325, for one minute at a time (i.e. check on them every 60 seconds), until the cheese just barely becomes gooey. At that point, crank the air fryer up to 450, and let them cook for 1 final minute. Let them rest until cool enough to eat, and enjoy your perfectly reheated, gooey cheese with perfectly crispy crust, leftover pizza slices.
The biggest take away is to not eat the pizza with the highest score at the end. The ones that last longer use less quality ingredients, which is why they had a higher score. The one with better quality ingredients will become difficult to eat if not unedible more quickly than ones with worse ingredients
I prefer cold pizza the next day, so much so, I'll usually buy an extra pizza to eat cold. If I do reheat, I'm going with the toaster oven, which is actually one of like 3 things I use it for.
I like to reheat my pizza in an air fryer or an oven. I dont use the microwave because I am not trying to "cook" the pizza twice. I just want to warm it. There's a difference
Have worked in a Mom and Pop pizza shop for 8.5 years. IMO the BEST way to reheat pizza is to preheat a pan to medium / medium-high heat. Places your slices into the pan and heat for about 1.5 - 2 minutes. Afterwards, flick a generous amount of water into the pan (You don't want too much water, but enough to create a healthy amount of steam) and cover with lid for about 1 minute. The initial warming gets the bottom crust hot and helps the undercarriage remain crispy, the steam from the water aids in remelting the cheese. If this is too much, sometimes i just air fry!
Step 1. Get a pizza from the fridge Step 2. Put the pizza on a plate Step 3. Wet a paper towel Step 4. Place the wet paper towel on top of the pizza Step 5. Place the pizza in the microwave Step 6. Microwave for 1:00-1:30 Step 7. Enjoy!
In defense of Papa John's, while Dominos switched to garlic crust and thinner pizza, and Pizza Hut just fell in quality, Papa Johns has remained consistent for ages. Thick crust, robust sauce, and perfectly layered cheese. I can't help but always crave it when Pizza Hut has fallen and Dominos seems to be more of a specific desire with the thinner garlic crust and tangy marinara. I just wish more people liked it as much as I do. Never even eat the pepperoncini, but I'm sad if it's not in the box
Replied to some messages with this, but the stove top is the best method for reheating restaurant leftovers. Place the pizza directly on a pan at medium-high heat without any cooking oil (your pizza should have enough oil in it) to crisp the crust for 2-4 min, then place 2-3 drops of water directly on the pan's surface without touching the pizza. Turn down the heat to medium and cover to steam the toppings for a few more minutes. Takes like 5-7 min max, but does lightly dirty a pan and lid.
Step 1. Get a pizza from the fridge Step 2. Put the pizza on a plate Step 3. Wet a paper towel Step 4. Place the wet paper towel on top of the pizza Step 5. Place the pizza in the microwave Step 6. Microwave for 1-1:30 Step 7. Enjoy!
Reheating tip: 1 minute microwave while a pan heats up a drizzle of oil, then fry the pizza while adding some hot sauce onto it. The cheese will be soft from the microwave, but you retain a firm base from a quick fry. Add a lid to your pan and it'll steam the cheese if you want it extra hot

Keep these videos up man! Great work.
Man, I really wish everyone notices your content. Everything about it is top quality and deserve way more subs
Oh, and is this just a “who uses the most preservatives” test? 🤔
This is the way.
Next video should be about which pizza reheating method is the best.
Another strange banger from Sam Reid. I have finals for my data structures class at UVA this week and I’m currently watching this instead of studying
Go Hoos 🔥
My reheat method is simple.
- Give it a light spritz of water to add moisture back to it
- Put on a plate, and cover with paper towel so the moisture stays in during the microwave process
- Microwave for 2 minutes for one slice, 2 minutes and 30 seconds for 2 slices.
Eating the whole pepper straight was funny lol
Sam, I hope you're having a great day. I'm loving your content dude
throw pizza in the microwave (bonus points if its on the plate that bagel bites come on) for about a minute, then throw it in the toaster oven until it's crispy, gets the bottom nice and crunchy and the cheese gooey with minimal effort
I reheat my pizza by either putting it on broil in the oven for 5 mins or so, or I’ll put it on the stovetop for 10 mins with some water and covering in the middle so the condensation keeps the cheese moist
I reheat my leftover pizza with a toaster oven.
Really interesting how Pizza Hut remained fairly unchanged two weeks later!
I don’t care if leftover pizza is warm or cold as long as it tastes good
I reheat on a skillet, and once it's pretty hot I drop a tablespoon of water on the side of the skillet and cover it to steam the and melt the cheese and cook the toppings. honestly this has saved even week old slices for me. Also I'm in my 30's and have never gotten sick from eating week old pizza.
>doesnt reheat it
>doesnt store them in a bag
why are you living like this brother
Love your channel, man! It’s my favorite!!!
thats the first I've heard of the 2 hour rule. this morning I ate a leftover taco bell stacker that had been sitting on the counter for about 15 hours. I feel fine and the stacker was delicious.
Do any work in food service and you will learn this rule
It's a food service requirement, which are usually overkill to account for the stupidity of the average worker. 15h is definitely more than I'd recommend, though. At that point it basically comes down to your gut and other environment factors whether you regret it.
I enjoy using a magnifying glass on a hot summers day to reheat pizza. Perfect amount of crunch
This is the only correct answer
Isnt it just which ever has the most preservatives?
preservatives is such a broad term though. Salt is preservative.
@@Dparrey Well the thing is much of what is called preservatives is literally just a salt typically potassium benzoate
@@matthewzaloudek Pizza Hut has the highest salt content in it's sauce and pepperoni of the three tested, That is probably why it lasted the longest with the least degradation. The high salt content is why I can eat Pizza Hut anymore, which is sad because I loved Pizza Hut when I was younger.
happy I found this channel, great vids
“Im not a geologist” 💀💀💀
For reheating pizza in the microwave, I fill a microwave safe cup with a small amount of water and place it in the microwave with the pizza. Then heat for 45 to 60 seconds depending the size of the slice. It comes out nice and steamy with the cheese re-melted, so GOOD!
Food poisoning is scared of this guy
This is science
Air fryer is the goat for reheating pizza. I usually throw on some fresh mozzarella on top and it's ready in like 5-10 minutes.
The biggest take away is to not eat the pizza with the highest score at the end. The ones that last longer use less quality ingredients, which is why they had a higher score. The one with better quality ingredients will become difficult to eat if not unedible more quickly than ones with worse ingredients
I always reheat pizza in the oven for 10 minutes. Brings it right back to life.
This is so cursed, thank you for doing the Lords work 🙏
I prefer cold pizza the next day, so much so, I'll usually buy an extra pizza to eat cold. If I do reheat, I'm going with the toaster oven, which is actually one of like 3 things I use it for.
Papa John’s is so vastly superior. Dominos isnt good fresh, and my roommates never even ate it left over. That’s how I knew I was right
Reheating preference… Pan on medium- high heat.. a little bit of water… slice of pizza and lid… 2 mins
Risked consuming unhealthy bacteria for our enjoyment. An unsung hero
I like to reheat my pizza in an air fryer or an oven. I dont use the microwave because I am not trying to "cook" the pizza twice. I just want to warm it. There's a difference
A man ate 14 day old pizza. This is what happened to his organs.
That sponsor spot was smooooth 👊🏻
Usually like to reheat pizza w/ a toaster oven, takes like 5 minutes
Piece by piece in the air frier, perfect every time
Step 1. Get a pizza from the fridge
Step 2. Put the pizza on a plate
Step 3. Wet a paper towel
Step 4. Place the wet paper towel on top of the pizza
Step 5. Place the pizza in the microwave
Step 6. Microwave for 1:00-1:30
Step 7.
Step 1. Get a pizza from the fridge
Step 2. Put the pizza on a plate
Step 3. Wet a paper towel
Step 4. Place the wet paper towel on top of the pizza
Step 5. Place the pizza in the microwave
Step 6. Microwave for 1-1:30
Step 7. Enjoy!
I love you Sam, great editing and video as always! Hope the best for you brother! Much love
whenever Im eating and I need a video to watch, you always got bangers
New Haven really has the best pizza, you're definitely right about that.
This is the most detailed intro to a chubbyemu video I've ever seen
I put leftover pizza in our air fryer. It's crispy and EVERY time it's better than the night before. 🍕
