    Hello Birchy,
The engine needs to be at full running temperature before you can do a DCT Reset!
Always turn off the bike with the key! The kill switch is only used after an accident or has fallen over!
Follow this procedure to the letter for the calibration of the Clutches (DCT Reset):
    1. Engine must be HOT
    2. Re-Start Engine
    3. Turn OFF with Ignition Key
    4. Holding Drive Button down
    5. Turn ON Ignition
    6. Drive Drive Neutral Drive Neutral
    7. Drive Indicator is Flashing
    8. Re-Start Engine
    9. Clutches start to Recalibrate
    10. Drive Indicator returns to N
    11. Turn OFF with Ignition Key
    12. Restart & Good to Go!
I hope this helps all NC750X DCT owners of how to re-calibrate correctly 👍🏻
    Ride Safe Ride NC
DCT Dave & Butty Bach 🙂

yeah the key to turn off thing seems to escape a few riders. It's in the manual, too.

1st Fantastic you will love it, and DCT isn't for everyone, I've had 3 now they all have had there tantrums but they are honestly solid, The only part that is DANGEROUS for me is when the bike cuts out while moving, you can't re start them until they have stopped and turned off and on again.👍👍👍

If the battery is low, can effect the dct. And also if you change the sprockets, They MUST be Dct sprockets and not geared Nc750x sprockets. As they are different size. Apart from that not sure what might be, and Iv'e had 6 Nc's of different models.

Can I tell you what I was told when doing a DCT reset, and that is when you do the reset and it goes through its sequence and you end up with the N on the dash, you should turn the bike off, then restart it as normal, if you don’t turn It off after the N (neutral) it won’t go in gear. I always do it that way and it’s never been a problem, Africa Twin by the way, guess it’s the same.

Paul. Like the comment about abs sensor seeing as you've had the wheels out. I've no idea but it could tie in? Also I might be completely peeing into the wind here. But as you do when decided on a DCT I hit the interweb with a vengeance. I have in the back of my mind something about not using the kill switch to switch off the engine, to always use the key as it can affect the DCT. I maybe talking total crap its just in the back of my mind.
Incidentally I've only done one reset. Interesting one this.

I bought a brand new 2018 NC750X and after 18 months it developed an intermittent fault. After much faffage and being fobbed off I was eventually taken seriously and a 'senior' tech had the bike for a week. Despite Honda firing the parts cannon at it, the tech very quickly discovered the problem was the shifter motor sticking. Apparently there was a batch of faulty shifter motors. The dealer swapped the motor but you can also clean the motor and that usually cures it. In my case it would always happen in very hot weather. There is a UA-cam video of someone showing you how to clean the shifter motor as his was also sticking. In my case a DCT never helped as a component was sticking. There are a couple of videos on my channel showing the bike stuck in gear. FYI A DCT Reset is only needed if any clutch component have been replaced. If the bike is juddering while you're on the move/not changing gear it will not be the gearbox.

@@birchwoodbiker Mmmmm I fear they're fobbing you off a bit. If firmware was corrupt the bike wouldn't work until it had been reflashed. I guess time will tell if it happens again! I was getting the occasional engine light on my X-ADV and used a handheld TopDon diag tool to read the error code. Something like that might reveal a code. HAving said that I never had the engine light illumate on my NC despite being stuck in gear.

DCT resets are also advised every 5,000 miles, or if changing oil brands to compensate for changes in friction behaviour due to normal wear, or differences caused by differences in oil brands. My AT developed a slight shudder on take-off and a rough 1 to 2 upshift after an oil chsnge, tech at the dealer told me to do a dct reset, cured it and its better than it was when I bought it brand new. He told me about doing regular recalibration / resets to compensate for wear.

The Honda manual suggests you only do this when the clutch has been changed. Personally I wouldn’t do it for the sake of it.

I bought a 22 plate dct which had had the jerkiness mod. I sold after 3 months. The box could not cope with hairpins and steep inclines. I saw a vlog on here where the older one if these broke and honda or no one could fix the gearbox. If you want auto get a yamaha t max belt drive auto as fast as these for sure.
Look closely at the swing arm - like box steel. My 21 yr old VFR still beautiful

L means Low oil temperature. If L appears then you can't calibrate the dct. You need first start the engine until the oil temperature go up. After that you can start again the calibration of dct. Generally especially in winter you need to wait little time while the engine working cause the oil temperature must be up. After that you put the dct and go

BB Just a thought could it be a side stand problem- I noticed when you were removing your wheels for new tyres you obviously don't use a lot of WD 40 every where and the side stand switch that stops you putting into gear may need a drink of WD 40-- I haven't watched this to the end I'm having 1 of my Cataracts done this morning and have to go now -- so see you slightly better next time.

hope it gets sorted, technology is great but it can fail. And to be fair 50 years ago it would have been a buggered ring, dropped or burnt valve, wanked carb...etc etc etc. In the scheme of things we are pretty lucky. Royal Enfields could get more agricultural if they were built in Uzbekistan and they still fail, look at silverfox's issue and the plethora of people with cutting out issues. Fight the good fight mate.

I had a 2015 DCT and it would occasionally lock itself in 6th gear. I used to stop the bike, hold the front brake and rock the bike back and forth. I would watch and hear as it clunked back through the gears. This is one of the reasons when I bought my current NC750X I chose a manual version.

I seem to remember a recent video when you lubed the chain. You put the bike on centre stand and put it in drive. I don't think you are supposed to do that because the front wheel is stationary and it confuses the DCT. If I am mistaken then I am sorry.

I have a 2021 NC750 DCT and I did exactly that one time to oil the chain. It threw an ABS error on the dash as I recall, but I didn’t know what the issue was at the time. I took it into Honda and they ran a diagnostic, asked if I’d perhaps put it in gear while it was on the center stand (oops) and they reset the system. Problem was solved. But that didn’t cause an issues with the DCT that I noticed at the time.

    Fuel consumption on motorways, 70mph = 73 mpg. 60mph = 80mpg. 50mph = 100 mpg.
I could only do the 50mph on the M62 during road works from junction 26 to the M1 turn off.
Glad your bike is back to normal.
Those fuel figures are for the manuel version.
On my VFR 1200 DCT back about 10 years ago, had it for. 3 years and never had to re set the DCT in 3 years, weird.

I had a new Honda Forza 750 with just over 500 miles on the clock from new and it developed a fault when I selected drive it would go up and down the gears from first to third without me moving off, I took it back to the dealership and they had it for over two months and couldn’t fix it they gave me a full refund Honda was also involved anyway a couple of months later my Forza 750 was up for sale at the dealership so I called them to ask what the fault was which they eventually fixed, it was a rear wheel speed sensor which developed a fault hence changing up and down the box without moving off. I was gutted to say the least as I love riding the DCT but it has put me off buying another one which is a shame, I can’t fault the dealership they were great and gave me a demo Africa Twin to ride so I wasn’t without a bike for work.

ANSWER !!! DO not buy bikes or cars with new sensors ! There going wrong all over the place rendering these DCT cars and bikes near on. worthless , its becoming a massive problem on a global scale , as an engineer and owner of Legend Biking Motorcycle parts company I know many engineers in the bike and car industry where owners of cars and bikes have lost 10 of thousands on vehicles fitted with the DCT system and other new tech ! Utterly useless , sensor on new engines are going wrong all over the place and set to get far worse as engines do more miles ! Buy simple tech old school or simple modern bikes or cars or get yourself burnt severely ! They want a throw away society and you are adopting it !! Only have to look at SVs now thats even worse !

@@birchwoodbiker I know of one particular engineering company in Stoke on Trent that has a 6 month back log of failed new engines by Range Rover , Land Rover , Ford DCTs gearboxes etc can name more and more ! There all failing , BMW GS sensors that have been failing on tours and had to be direct to dealers etc etc ! Many only trust 80s 90s tech for off grid riding due to all the above issues now ! Anything tech is becoming a throw away issue due to massive parts and labour bills ! This is why old Transalps , XT Teneres , DRs , Old African twins etc demands will continue to go up and prices go up , this is why the new junk will literally be junk ! Paying 10 -30 K for junk with 500 to 1000 pound servicing costs just to plug them in ! Its laughable and until people see it for real they will get caught up in this madness !!

I would like to believe that in case of such a reliability marvel as the NC750X, such a reliability guru like Honda got it right, but sadly the reality is different. The whole mankind, Honda or not, has not been able to mass-produce and commercialize a reliable automatic transmission. Reliability is relative, but it does not matter in this case because we can objectively see the reliability gap between manual and automatic transmission in same vehicles. A well-built modern free-breathing gasoline engine is virtually maintenance free and reliable beyond concern. A manual transmission is even more reliable than such an engine, virtually never failing, never needing anything and never being the reason why a vehicle reaches it's end of useful life. And then there is the automatic transmission. Most of the time, virtually always, being the weakest link in the chain, being the main concern and main reason why a vehicle needs something, why it gets stranded, why it has to be written off because it is not financially feasible to fix it once more and so on. Sadly this holds true also in most reliable vehicles, e.g, Honda Civic, Honda NC750X, Mercedes 124W, etc. It is very unfortunate that you are repeatedly going through it but I hope that once all is said and done, one day, you will own a nice NC750X, Africa Twin or what ever your dream bike may be, with a nice never-to-be-mentioned butter-smooth manual transmission and look back at all this with a relieved sigh.

My son is a Honda service manager. I bought a NC750x DCT in 2021 and in early 2022 the throttle got a bit snatchy. At that time Honda had just issued a service builtin regarding remapping the DCT. It wasn't a recall so many dealers ignored it. After the remapping it's been perfect with over 9,000 miles clocked up. It seems a shame you have to do the research and ask the dealer to do it, it's not part of the service checks
