I bought 3 of the mags. I bought the medium pronate, medium supinate, and the small supinate. Love them all use them every single back day for pulldowns, and rows. They alleviate the stress on my shoulders, and elbows. I will never ever use another straight bar for lat pulldowns again. Even the neutral grip knockoffs are 100% ergonomically better than a straight lat bar For your shoulders, wrist, and elbows. Over time the straight bar will cause a lot of wear, and tear on the joints. Any cheap neutral grip chrome lat bar will do the same thing as the knockoffs. What makes the mags special are the angles on the pronate , and supinate grips . If you decide to get the mag try the medium pronate first, or medium supinate. Mag makes 3 neutral grip version ( small, medium, large) no need to get any of them. like i mentioned before any cheap neutral grip chrome lat bar will put you in the same position as any of the mag neutrals.
Great review from someone that actually owns both! I own neither and was contemplating buying the knockoffs but based on your review, I might just shell out the money and get the MAGS!
Like I said they are better and you don’t need all 7. Start with the mid/larger ones and go from there. Close grip felt the least benefit in my opinion.
Thanks for the very honest review mate! I`ve been pondering these for a while for my home gym, they weren`t a thing the last time i trained at a commercial gym so i was very intrigued by the odd looks of them and seeing them pop up everywhere for sale (usually the knock offs!) You`ve certainly given me food for thought, so thank you!
Thanks for your videos. This one and the cable attachments video have been very helpful. Just got my first MAG bar (medium pronate) in today and used it tonight for my back and biceps workout. Wow! After using a straight bar for lat pull downs, this thing is amazing. It’s a great example of the kind of American ingenuity and quality I’m happy to support. The ability to keep your grip out of the equation is really nice. I could really feel the focus on my lats. The bar feels good, works well and even looks good. I liked the new bar so much, I’m ordering more right away. Thanks again for your content. Keep up the good work
Got a mid and small sized mag grip one and love them both. I use them only for rows so I didn’t see a point going with the knock offs and having 3 other ones I would never use. Also love buying made in USA products when I can!
I must say that was a very thorough review. I have a set of the knock-off and use them regularly. The Mag Grips are quality equipment and the angles on the grips are tops. When I was looking for different lat handle attachments cost was a factor. So I ended up buying Prime Fitness’s RO-T8 4 in 1 for $185.00 at that time and the knock-offs for $100.00. Great review and look forward for more comparisons of equipment.
Hey thanks for reaching out. When it comes to attachments it's endless what we can buy! lol. That's a decent price on PRIME's attachment. I haven't bought any Prime just based on the prices but maybe this year ill dive in. cheers!!
I bought all 7 MAG Bars 3 years ago. I use them 3X a week. They look as good as the day I got them. To me it's a no 🧠 brainer. You wanna ride in a Cadillac, or ride in a Chevette? You'll only live once, but you'll be dead a long time. Splurge!! Your worth it!! 🤣😆 Ps,as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for!!
Solid review, very helpful information! I think you nailed it right on the head that the entire set is overkill but the few you highlighted seem to for sure offer the most benefit and in a pair variety to augment the standard attachments most people already have.
Picked up the medium knockoff because of budget and to train for neutral grip pullups. By far the best investment I've made for my rep fitness lat attachment. Took all the stress off my damaged bicep. No regerts
Great video man, first time working with the MAG grips blew my mind. Even close grip handle on something funky like cable curls felt gnarly. 11/10 recommend.
Thanks for the review. That must have been tough doing so many sets while still recovering from being sick. Greatly appreciate it. I like the final suggestion to buy the longest piece from Mag then work down. I would suggest measuring the hand distance when arms are fully retracted in a pulldown position and a row position. Those lengths would be the next ones to purchase.
Thanks for this comparison. Whenever possible, beyond the made in America part, I much prefer supporting the company that put in the time/effort/expense into the R&D rather than just knocked it off (improving on a design is a different story). Have you by chance tried the Prime 4-n-1 or 3-n-1? I've been debating a few MAG attachments versus one or two of the Prime. Cheers
This is a great look at both sets Rylan. I will get some of these eventually and you made my decision easier. I also wanna let you know that I caved and bought some safety straps in addition to my flip downs for the PR5000 V2 because of your video. You are quickly becoming one of my personally most reliable sources of input for equipment. Sorry for the paragraph I appreciate you man!
I went into this thinking the knock offs will win honestly and was impressed with the MAG GRIPs! Glad I can help you out on your home gym set up! It's addicting once you get going let me tell you. ha ha.. cheers brother
I have the medium grip pronate MAG grip and it feels great! I also have the close grip neutral handle and agree with you that it is just okay. I probably recommend the typical triangle row grip over the narrow handles. I've been interested in the longer MAG grip and after seeing this review might just pull the trigger on it.
I actually own MAGS and the knock offs also. I bought the knock offs for a family member and kept 2 while giving the others away. Honestly I use the knock offs more than my MAGS now, especially the medium length bar with neutral handle.
Great review as usual.. Just to add to the mix, here in the UK from MIRAFIT, I purchased their Gym Cable Machine Attachment Set - 5 Handles, which bare a striking resemblance to the knock off set but with the exception they do have the slanted or pronated grip angles on all 5 handles!. Excellent build quality and feel as well as great value at £149.95 and £4.95 postage!.
Good honest review...With pricing, the differences are very minimal. Both will perform adequately. For the purest with the bankroll, go with the mag grip...USA Made.
I've always said they are the same so it was nice to use both head to head and admit I was wrong. But at the end of the day buy what you can afford and train. thanks for watching!:)
Great video. .I only have a couple of mag grips they are my favorite.I am slowly working up the entire collection. Just a little life hack on these if you only have either the pronated or supinated grip you can turn them around and voila you have the opposite direction of grip. 🧐🙃
Nice I’m purchasing some this week and was debating on getting a few of them but since you come up with the idea to turn them around it’s like having the other attachments
Magg grip all day the feel is night and day I have the close grip supanated and the nutural grip pronated. Well worth the money i want the close grip natural and the wide one now. You used them correctly.
Thanks for this. On,y thing I wish you had done is go more into the differences in supinate vs neutral vs pronate for the mid length grips. I’m not sure which one to buy first or why
Have you compared these Mags or generics to stuff like the Kensui Swissies (or other alternatives on Amazon). Currently I’m considering getting the pronated medium MAG but the Swissies (or cheaper amazon alternative) incredibly versatile when it comes to grip width.
Very cool. I had elbow tendinitis and it took 6 months to get rid of the pain. I know what your saying about elbow pain. Great to see so many people supporting MAG GRIP!
hey man thanks! i had a knockoff brand set in my cart for 135.00 for the last week and then i said let me look up the MAGS on youtube first. deleted the amazon cart and gonna do the large and mid size MAG and get a small one.
I really appreciate these side by side comparisons. I would love to see more. Maybe prime fitness attachments vs knockoffs or even prime fitness vs mag grips.
I got the knock off medium one and the bar completely bent when my buddy did 250 lbs on Lat pull down. It was rated for 880 lbs. Just buy the US made one and save yourself the trouble
I found i lift 50 pounds heavier in every movement. It takes alot more to get me sore. But i only feel it in my back and very little in forearms, biceps or shoulders. Its night and day compared to traditional lat pulldown.
Hey Mac quick question. In one of your other vids you showed the Rep Pro Series D Handles ( love the look) .In your opinion Are they big, and bulky, and are they too big for an average size woman (wifey) ? Took a chance and Ordered them anyway because they were out of stock for a bit.
Not too bulky and my wife uses them. They are better than the plastic ones that come with it. My only complaint would be the frame edges aren't very rounded but not really an issue unless your doing something crazy that hits your wrist.
@@MacStrengthCo hey Mac just got the D handles in today. I only tried them with some light lying cable chest press on my functional trainer , and i love the way they feel in hand. Ill really test them out tomorrow when i do my full upper body workout , but so far they’re awesome.
@@MacStrengthCo Hey Mac, so i did my my full upper body with the handles. They really shined when i hooked up my Gym pin lat bar to the functional trainer, and attached the handles to it for seated bench chest supported rows. I also liked them a lot for lying functional trainer flat, and incline chest press. All around an over engineered awesome set of handles.
I bought the knock offs not realizing there were such brands and knock offs. Just saw people using these grips and they seem to do great 😂 and I am usually really picky . Might upgrade if I can get a larger garage gym.
Are you the one that keeps deleting my comment? I just wanted to share that there are new EXACT knockoffs of MAGs now and would love if you did a comparison… They seem like a better buy than these regular knockoffs if you don’t want to shell out for real MAGs. Happy to share what to search for but I keep getting deleted so I’ll do it in a reply if anyone is interested.
@@MrJkillahoe415 my reply to you got deleted but search for BLUSLM pull down at the biggest online Prime retailer in the world. I think typing out the name is flagging something to get my comments deleted.
I purchased two from Mag grip. I prefer American made products and supporting USA small businesses. I don’t regret the purchase. Extremely high quality and the best packaging by far.
Great honest review! I purchased the knockoffs during lockdown for $89. You’re correct about the small ones,I never use really, but use the all 3 wide grips, also my wife loves them. The price point for the original’s is a little high I could use the money for a Titian seated bench or Titian preacher curl station, however because my garage gym is mostly complete it’s starting to get a little harder to convince my wife that I need new toys😂😂 Thanks for the videos 🤙🏽🤙🏽☀️☀️🌴🌴 #Calilove
On their site, I notice that the MAG grips have both pronate and supinate versions. Can you buy one and turn it around and get pronationa and supination from one attachment?
I live in Toronto Canada and I really want to buy the offical Mag Grips but it's gonna cost me over 170$ for 1 attachment after shipping and US Dollar conversion to Canadian. I use to own the Medium Grip knockoff which was 65$ Canadian and free shippin from Amazon and to be honest it worked amazing, It was so good that many other gym members also got them. Unfortunately I lost them. I wish Mag Grip would start selling their products on Amazon because more people would buy them. The cost of the handles themselves is FAIR but the shipping especially to Canada is what is the deal breaker. If they were sold in Canada I would easily buy them. I am still undecided which direction I should go with.
I own and use the knock off ones also. I just had to be honest the Mag's are superior in the angles and overall feel. That's me being super technical and picky. The knock offs work but I find I don't use the close grip ones much.
@@MacStrengthCo yea I really like the Medium Pronate from Mag Grips, I just wish the shipping to Canada was more affordable. Your review was actually the best review on Mag Grips vs Knockoffs. You are the only person I've seen point out the angle of the grips on the Mag Grip which I do find to be superior in targeting the back. I just checked Amazon Canada and they have the medium grip neutral grip slightly pointed outward ones for 45$ on sale shipped to me. The Mag Grip equivalent is currently 150$ Canadian after conversion and shipping costs. I think I will have to stick with the Knockoffs as when I had it for the 5 months I loved it and I was easily able to target my lats and also lesson the pain in my forearms. I will watch your other videos for other attachments. Have a great day.
I'm a member at the biggest european gym chain called "McFit". Their German gyms recently started to roll out mag-grip knock offs and they are literally unusable after a few months in a public gym. The whole plastic outer layer is ripped off and the metal interior of the grips starts to splinter. So longevity of the knock offs is definitely not there if they get used heavily. Not sure how real mag-grips would fare but I'm definitely sticking to the old school handels - they are doing their job just fine and are actually able to survive years and years even in a cheap public gym.
Great feedback! I've seen both of them in a local commercial gym and they seemed ok but I have no idea how long they were in use for? One week? 2 yrs? lol. no idea. I don't see the knock offs lasting.
I’m in Europe too. A few companies sell this design under their own brand: ATX in Germany and Gladiator Fit in Switzerland. I’m not sire if they are Mag Grips under licence or copies
The largest mag grip felt like nothing I've ever used in 25 yrs of training. It's really WIDE! For me personally I loved it. They made an in between one now that I didn't have for the review.
I’m new to Mag Grips. Is anyone familiar with the newer 3/4 Mag Grips lat bar? Is it worth starting off with that instead of the traditional wide grip?
@@MacStrengthCo what I met does it matter the length of the bar between them, would the long one hit the rear delts more , sorry that question I last wrote did not make Much sense , but I’m sure they hit different Muscle groups right , sorry if I still do not make sense
I have the medium length neutral grip one and love it. Anybody have advice for which of the narrow ones to get to target the lower lats? Would it be the underhand grip one?
I would recomend to work with a supinated grip, either with regular bar, narrow mag attachment or what ever you have, since de supinated grip gives you a little bit more range of motion but there is a little of technique to target more "lower lats". When you do the pull instead of going to the center of your back, go more to the pockets of your pants. Keep a neutral spine and pull down your shoulder blades, that will make you pull mostly with your lats and back muscles instead of using lot of biceps, or upper back muscles but you will target all the posterior muscles anyways. I would recommend you to watch Jonni Shreve and hypertrophy coach; they both make great content and have lots of knowledge and they explain the proper technique of basically every exercise.
I bought the so called knock offs 6-8 months ago. Guess what boys….they work just the same. They look great as well. Unless your a gorilla and throw them against the wall after each use, then yeah they won’t last. For home gym, they work well. Just make sure you pinpoint a good set of knock off.
Like all exercise selection it's all about finding what feels the best for you. Different pulldowm attachments are no different. As for paying for the brand name for exactly the same thing, well you know what they say about the fool and his money.
My gym has the mag grips and I like the comfort of the system but it's not something I feel I need. Muscles will grow just as well with the old school stuff.
More like a sponsored ad for mag grips than a genuine review. If these were really made in the U.S., shipping would be minimal or included in the price - clearly not the case here. The production cost is also very low. I live in Ireland, where import fees are high, yet I bought seven knockoff attachments for €99 (~$88), including shipping. I've used the originals at the gym and honestly, there's no meaningful difference, but in fairness they have exact same handles (and even if they work less well for you, it could mean completely different to someone else, likewise for the mag grips). Plus, you mentioned buying five attachments, but showed more in the video. Video quality is great, but this feels a bit misleading.
I've thought about doing a channel on my square body builds but for now Ill sprinkle some in on this channel. Filming while working on my trucks sorta takes the fun out of it!
Really appreciated the comparison. We have a couple online, but it's the first quality one. I almost purchased a true Mag grips one, but the shipping was more expensive than the attachment itself... I might get one at some point but, woah... My wife would have killed me... The knockoffs in Canada are about the same price that you pay for the real Mag version in USA... So, for now, I only got the ''neutral'' medium cheap knockoff version, and I immediately put a shackle through it. It really helps as you clip the carabiner to this instead of that cheap grommet. It's a good attachment, but I can't compare yet with the real thing as I never saw one...! Have you tried any prime fitness one yet?
I think if you truly hit these multiple times a week then go for the Mag as they will stand the test of time. If you use these once or twice a month the extra expense is not worth it.
So the knock offs feel slightly less great, but are only a 1/3th of the price… Sounds like a great compromise to me. I don’t care at all where it’s made. There is nothing wrong with supporting Asian companies, even though you almost spent half the video talking about where it was made…. 😊
Other than being patriotic and a higher level of quality (if in fact that applies in each case), what is the big deal about needing everything to only be made in America? If that device results in the same outcome, who really cares where something came from?
What surprised me the most when I started to reviewing gym gear was how many people care about USA made. In the end weight is weight yet so many people spent thousands more to get made in America iron plates! Look at Strengthco plates for example. It's a big deal for many people.
I stopped caring where things were made a long time ago. Typical example of how american greed causes the price to be 4 times as much. And the american ones are probably still made in china. They may be made a little better, but four times better??? I run into a lot of overpriced stuff "made in america" and quite often these companies are located in California where it costs crazy money to make everything. I would buy the knockoffs just to avoid the american products and I am an american. If you have money to waste buy american and line their pockets so they can drive bmws and bentleys. Another example of this is rep fitness products. They are in the usa but their products are made overseas. They are ridiculously expensive. For instance if you want to chose a different color on a rack they charge over $500 to chose lets say white or blue etc. With other brands like vesta fitness, they dont charge a dime. Vesta has an office in the usa but I believe they are foreign. Do what works the best for you but if you have loyalty to american workers and american companies you may get ripped off.
I bought 3 of the mags. I bought the medium pronate, medium supinate, and the small supinate. Love them all use them every single back day for pulldowns, and rows.
I just bought the knockoffs with out knowing about the real deal Mags. I think in a bit I I’ll be buying the mags.
Both are great just made the video to explain they are different.
Where can you find the new knockoffs?
@@MrJkillahoe415 my reply to you got deleted but search for BLUSLM pull down at the biggest online Prime retailer in the world. I think typing out the name is flagging something to get my comments deleted.
@@jamestonbellajo If had a link, YT will delete it since many links are spam.
I haven't deleted anything. YT does delete some links as spam sometimes. cheers!
@@briand5047 nah it didn’t have a link but I would say something along the lines of “search … on [online retailer]”.
I purchased two from Mag grip. I prefer American made products and supporting USA small businesses. I don’t regret the purchase. Extremely high quality and the best packaging by far.
Yup. It’s hard to beat.
Thanks brother! Ya your leveled up having either one no doubt.
I find the small one, close grip Palms facing me pull Downs are fantastic with that attachment.
On their site, I notice that the MAG grips have both pronate and supinate versions. Can you buy one and turn it around and get pronationa and supination from one attachment?
I don't think so. I always used them with the emblem facing me.
Finally a side by side comparison 🏋♂️
Long over due. The real MAG GRIPS impressed me honestly. No doubt they are better.
@@MacStrengthCo I bought the knock off version two years ago and have no complaints. Thanks for the reviews 👍
Honestly same here. I have 2 sets of knock offs actually.
Any idea why the two medium sized knockoff handles are so close in size?
I was wondering that very thing the other day. It's pretty rediculous.
I wonder if there’s a manufacturer that makes a multiple gripe pull down bar. I have a small basement gym
Prime fitness does
Iron master ultimate row handle. Both pull down and landmine
I just got mine from
treadmill factory! love them
cool!
Which one do you use the most and for which exercise?
How does the largest Mag grip compare to a standard (48in I think?) lat pulldown bar?
The largest mag grip felt like nothing I've ever used in 25 yrs of training. It's really WIDE! For me personally I loved it. They made an in between one now that I didn't have for the review.
This helps a lot thanks!
Glad it was helpful.
Good review and nice truck.
Thanks Bill!
I think another difference is the used rubber, the one that the Knock-offs are using is smelling quite chemical. Can't be healthy on the long term.
interesting point. Thanks for sharing.
I do wish mag would do a deal set… they would blow the comp out of the water if they did
yup
I’m new to Mag Grips. Is anyone familiar with the newer 3/4 Mag Grips lat bar? Is it worth starting off with that instead of the traditional wide grip?
Will the long one get you wider than the medium size grips
not sure
@@MacStrengthCo what I met does it matter the length of the bar between them, would the long one hit the rear delts more , sorry that question I last wrote did not make Much sense , but I’m sure they hit different Muscle groups right , sorry if I still do not make sense
Work on shortening these Mac - should have been a 4-5min tops
i think your being generous. ha ha. I was thinking more like 1 min.
I want to buy one medium bar looking for anyone’s opinion should I get the medium pronate or supinate? I can’t decide
The knock off set I paid around $75 for all 5 bars. If you go with mag grips that's a tough call. I would lean towards the pronate bar.
Well that depends on the exercise you want to do and the muscles you want to target
I have the medium length neutral grip one and love it. Anybody have advice for which of the narrow ones to get to target the lower lats? Would it be the underhand grip one?
The narrow ones I prefer the traditional style grips. Check out Steadfast Lifting they have a couple
@@jflhr thank you for the feedback. I like watching Hypertrophy coach!
Great topic!
It had to be done. I had wondered this very thing for a long time.
I bought the so called knock offs 6-8 months ago. Guess what boys….they work just the same. They look great as well. Unless your a gorilla and throw them against the wall after each use, then yeah they won’t last. For home gym, they work well. Just make sure you pinpoint a good set of knock off.
I’ve seen knock offs in commercial gyms and going strong so don’t count them out. Mags are better no question but more money.
Like all exercise selection it's all about finding what feels the best for you. Different pulldowm attachments are no different.
As for paying for the brand name for exactly the same thing, well you know what they say about the fool and his money.
Is it me or are the knockoffs thicker and heavier?
The coating seems thicker for sure.
@@MacStrengthCo Great video. I hadn't realized how different the actual grips were.
My gym has the mag grips and I like the comfort of the system but it's not something I feel I need. Muscles will grow just as well with the old school stuff.
No argument from me. I'm old school with my training.
There are 8 now - Just checked the Mag site
sweet!!
Are you going to make a channel with your other hobbies?
I've thought about doing a channel on my square body builds but for now Ill sprinkle some in on this channel. Filming while working on my trucks sorta takes the fun out of it!
Get the knock offs, but men have been “hitting all the angles “ for the back long before modern art attachments.
Good point
Fugghedabout the grips. Love the truck.
🤙🏼I’ve got 2 c10 beaters I’m working on.
Prime is way outside my middle class paycheck. I think there's a few reviewers rocking PRIME but I suspect they got it discounted.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
These are literally more than 3 times the price in the UK! Range from £150-£160 EACH! 😢
(Great review though - thanks!)
I saw the same thing in Australia! Yikes
I think if you truly hit these multiple times a week then go for the Mag as they will stand the test of time. If you use these once or twice a month the extra expense is not worth it.
Nice review, you saved me money as ill stick with my homemade bars all made from 50mm tubing.
Saving money is good!
This video just shows how many years you skipped your back workouts.
I have the knock offs, they were cheaper. Did mag grip not have a patent?
china doesn't care about patents is what ive noticed. The knock offs work fine. Much cheaper.
Awesome review mate thanks
your welcome
Please compare
MAG vs Marsofit
Marsafit
there you go!
Mag Grips in Europe are 1000$ and upwards.
I wouldn't pay that for them. Nice to have but not a game changer.
American manufacturing for the win 🙌🏻🇺🇸

Who cares China is the next big superpower
Wow, buying all 7 attachments the shipping is over $80.
Thats more then the knock offs! You don't need all 7.. The medium/wide are pretty much all I would use. The close stuff feels all the same to me.
@@MacStrengthCo - I already bought all 7 attachments. Do I need all 7 attachments? Maybe not but I just decided to buy them all.
@@SmokinBuddha no argument here. Im the king of the excessive equipment! ha ha..
@@MacStrengthCo - I just got the Mag Grips from UPS. Very fast delivery!!
So the knock offs feel slightly less great, but are only a 1/3th of the price… Sounds like a great compromise to me. I don’t care at all where it’s made. There is nothing wrong with supporting Asian companies, even though you almost spent half the video talking about where it was made…. 😊
The reason it's so cheap is due to where it's made so I guess thats a big deal.
@@MacStrengthCo yeah I don’t need to support US nationalism. I support international free trade and competition in the market.
I just bought a pack of 5 knock offs for 69 dollars
Hello, pull back grip production factory
Chinese have copied MAG design and now selling nearly 100% identical sets on Amazon.
Dude can’t count lol “if I had to pick three” 😂 I really wanted to to know
I've noticed you can't spell either so were even. ha ha..
The knock off are terrible
they actually work not bad. for the price it's hard to complain but they are not the same as the original.
Dude is bias af. They both get the job done.
