I am always looking for recipes to use my okinawan sweet potatoes that I grow in my yard. I found this recipe a while ago and decided to try it. Very nice and subtle flavor. Not a "true" mochi, but it is called so because of the mochiko flour it uses.
1 box of Mochiko flour
2 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 can coconut milk
1 3/4 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sweet potato puree
Sweet Potato Puree:
boil 2-3 sweet potatoes until cooked through (a knife easily goes in and out), cool, then puree in a blender until smooth.
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Mix the first 6 ingredients together until well combined. Lastly, fold in the sweet potato puree until thoroughly combined. Pour into a large rectangular pan, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour (usually takes a little bit longer)

Tammy and I have been friends for many years and met here on UA-cam! Since then we have met up in real life many times. You will LOVE her tutorials and learn how to decorate cupcakes better than most bakeries do. She lives in Canada, but I really wish she lived next door.
Also check out Jenn. You will love her as well. tinyurl.com/lah...
She and I have just recently become YT besties, have now met in real life twice and done some video collaborations together. When we are together, we "get" each other. It is hard to explain to people sometimes what you do and it is nice to be comfy knowing that she also understands everything I am talking about. Oddly enough, she too lives in Canada. I may have to move there soon since such awesome ladies are produced there!
Lastly, smile! I like it when you smile :)
Looks amazing! We love the Okinawan Sweet Potato Haupia Shortbread from Coffee Gallery on the North Shore, and our daughter is addicted to Mochi! We definitely have to make this!!!! Thanks for the great recipe!
I made this recipe only thing I didn't have milk so I used Heavy whipping cream equally to what the milk call for . my friends and family wants me to make again. My friends said it was creamy and delightful so will surely make again . My first time making it so thank you for this inspiration.

Can you imagine adding black sesame seed on top? Ahhh ono I can't handle it
I have to remember to get some mochi when I shop. I really want to make one of these cakes! They always looks soooo darn good.
Onolicious!! I didn't have any Okinawan sweet potatoes at home. I have made kabocha squash (same consistency of sweet potatoes) mochi instead. It was yums too! Red adzuki bean paste (anko) is my favorite! Great for Chinese New Year! I love the variety of mochi cakes you make. I did one recently with frozen blueberries with flake coconut. So good! Hmmmm a mango or pineapple one would be yummy. Ohhhhhhhh lilikoi!! Drool!
Looks like I have a new Sweet Potato recipe for Thanksgiving! Great!
Yummy! I have to try this. Never tried putting sweet potatoes in my mochi. I wonder how taro would taste in place of the Okinawan potatoes? I love, love your videos! Mahalos!

Your videos are very good. I didn't know that there was a purple sweet potato.
Do I leave it covered the whole baking time? Will it brown like yours with the foil on?
Cool video
This looks really good
Hope I can find all the ingredients
BIG HUGS
Oh man that looks good! I got a question, our sweet pots here are different, will that be ok?its also very hard to find the rice flour stuff. Is there anything I can substitute ?
Who sings at the end of the videos they sing really good ? 👌👏👏👍
yummm
Oh it's purple sweet potato. Our grocery store sold some of those not too long ago but they weren't called okinawa. I don't think they have them anymore but I'm sure this could be made with regular sweet potatoes.
That looks so good :)
Every time you make stuff using this it makes me jealous because I can't get it :( haha still looks good though!
What is the weight of one box of mochiko flour? 1 cup=250ml?
yummmm! mahalo for the video!
That looks yummy Beth. Did you ice, glaze or powder sugar it?
no, it doesn't need it. It is meant to not be sweet.
Hi Beth!
What is the difference between Mochiko rice flour and regular rice flour? Can they be easily swapped out? Do you think our regular sweet potatoes (yams) would work, too? Thanks!
YEA THIS IS MY FIRST EVER VIDEO THAT I AM 4th COMMENTOR YEA HAHAHAHAH OH AND WHAT A LOVELY RECIPE THIS IS LOOKS SCRUMPCIOUS HAHAHAHAHA YOUR AWESOME COOKING AND CRAFTING
sounds delish ;-)
1 Can if coconut milk =? Gram? Sorry different country has different packaging and brand
Beth, I live in L.A., do you think I could find Okinawan Sweet Potatoes here? Also, what brand of baking pan was that? It looked really superior to what I have.
I wonder if it is same as yam, purple sweet potato. They taste creamier than orange sweet potatoes.
Check an Asian grocery store. On the East coast, we have Hmart and Lotte, both of which carry them.
dorothysue1 - Check out the Asian or Japanese markets for the purple potatoes.
I missed the part where you put in the oven and say something like :
' goodbye Okinawan Sweet Potato Mochi, see you later '
Just cause it always makes me giggle a little when you talk to the dish.
I snuck it in there either in one I haven't edited or one that went live recently. :)
I had this fried version at Ala Moana mall.
Can someone get the sweet potatoes here in Amarillo Texas?
Did you eat it the way it was or did you make a frosting or glaze it? :o)
Just like that. No glaze.
U should show us a piece so we could see the color inside
Where can I get those sweet potatoes I live in Texas.
Sarah Duenas - Asian markets
NO Oil? Butter??
It looks like a cake... Mmm cake.
Mmmmmm Mmmmmmm Ono! :D
Looks yummo!!! "Chunkity" Hehe. ;-)
How come you don't cut it open and show us the inside/texture?? Since we can't taste it it's the least all you UA-cam cooks could do for us. How do we know it's worth trying??
My family calls this purple yam or ube

Sounds like she can hardly breathe >~
She (me) has bronchitis and asthma. I am so sorry that it was so significant that you had to mention it. And to mention it over the recipe, which in itself is freaking awesome. I wish people like you would just think before you comment. Is this about my breathing? Or is it about the recipe? I think you came here for the recipe.
No EGGS?????
