    Aegon is unironically the one doing the most to prevent war. He doesn't want to challenge Rhaenyra, he knows his nephews are bastards and not only keeps it to himself but actually gets along with them. If Alicent and Otto left the succession alone then Aegon would have lived his life in blissful debauchery. Let's also not forget it's Aemond who ruined all chances of a peaceful resolution and led the the blood and cheese incident.

  • @proteamdirector

    To be clear, Aemond didnt say the eye for a dragon line initially because he still wanted (in his opinion) justice for losing his eye. It was only when he saw that he wasn’t going to get it at that moment and that his mother was about to endanger both of them that he used the line to calm her down.
    It also served as a back-handed comment, reminding them that their dragon was now his.

      Actually that part felt a little awkward to me. Burial at sea is an amazing tradition for a seafaring-based house. But they literally just chucked her coffin into the water at the coast and it sank like three meters and that's it. Was I the only one who felt that was awkward? Like with a burial at sea the idea is that the sea takes the body. Okay it just sinks to the bottom, but still, it's lost to the vast open sea. With this one you can just walk up to the shore and spot the awkwardly turned-over coffin just lying there. Throw a few more on top and it will look like a trash heap. I don't know. They could have at least got on a boat, sailed out away from shore and released her coffin there. To actually see it disappear.

Another comment called it ‘unsettling and weary’ which is such a good description. Like it’s tiring to get through and it totally worls

    Vhagar is the oldest dragon alive and has been through a few different riders. Laena Valyrion is her most recent, but previous to Laena was Baelon Targaryen (Viserys' father) and long before that was Visenya Targaryen, Aegon the Conquerors' sister. The only critique I have, is that in the book it's said that to bond with a dragon that has had previous riders, they need to warm to you. It takes time and patience to form a bond. But I guess for the sake of the episode runtime they cut that out. I too would also like to see more dragon lore in the show. I understand that they don't want to lean too hard on the fantasy elements, but dragons are essentially what has kept the Targaryens in power for generations. They're a crucial political element and yet we don't entirely know how they are inherited in the show.

    Dragons are not inherited through families. according to lore it is not automatic that Vhagar the big bad dragon (fun fact: is the dragon of Visenya, Aegon the Conqueror´s sister) should pass to Laena´s daughters. the only requirment is that they have Targaryen blood. For example Vhagar before belonging to Laena was Baelon´s Dragon (Viserys and Daemon´ s Father) and yet she landed with Laena. So technically Aemond did not steal Vhagar.

    I find myself very unexpectedly pulling for the greens, or more just Alicent, don't know how that happens.
    And I was a bit confused about Larys in this episode, it didnt look like he's manipulating Alicent, not is he in love with her, but want to just weirdly serve her or something. He looked like he wanted her to acknowledge him at the funeral and she was just like meh.

      That guy is seizing the terrain. He needs to know in which side he must be when the war starts cause he knows that war is a matter of time. Everyones knows it, except Viserys who willfully has turned blind. You can see it when Otto is all proud and happy that Aemond took Vhagar, the way he says it implies that he's already preparing the course of war.
      Larys knows that Rhaenyra isn't popular amongst the lords and the common folk, so is preparing his way to side with the ones he perceived as the stronger ones.

    Yeah I also took note of the very obvious "day for night" scenes, but yeah, otherwise good episode. I love how the beginning captured the awkwardness of family gatherings, with the added element of some family members plotting to kill the others.
    Also, I do think it's made fairly clear that it was the plan for Laenor to escape. It's why Daemon killed that one random guard/servant in the stairs but also why he said to Rhaenyra "You'll still know the truth" or something like that when she said that the others will think she killed Laenor. But I did like how they still let trusted us as the audience to piece that together.

      @@Bannedconfidential She’s good, but the main look is the “concerned eyebrows” look though. The one she has with Larysfinger. I think the younger Alicent could just convey much more (innocence, anger, disappointment, frustration, uncertainty) in more subtle ways. She’s become more one-dimensional in the show now, in the past she was not.

    • @deceiver157
      @deceiver157 Рік тому +5

      I don't know, the dagger confrontation was beautifully tense and dramatic. Both the new actresses did an excellent job playing such such a scene.
      I agree that Alicent's old actress did a stellar job, but I disagree about the one-dimension: this Alicent is obviously more adult, and also even the younger Alicent began to look this way right before the time skip, when she made her pivotal change (symbolized by her "menacing" entrance dressed in green). Still, even the current Alicent still shows anexiety and vulnerability, she's indeed way bitter and obsessed than before but still feels like her heart ain't cold enough for the cruelty of the game.
