Well, Goat Control is 15 years old. It's very predictable by now. The Goats themself are still very useful, though. One of the most versatile cards of the format
The moment people start realizing one of the most broken cards ever printed is at 3 (Trap Dustshoot) and start actually maining it the format will become very chaotic. I run chaos turbo with 3 dustshoot and it is definitely the most consistent and powerful deck I've used, and I've tried all the good ones.
Return poses a paradox to me. In terms of deckbuilding slots, it's the equivalent to a bomb or boss monster or whatever you want to call it, but the problem is that the chaos decks that would play it already play 3, even 4, bombs. Since you have to build for consistency to win tournaments, adding more bombs as a meta call isn't an option for these decks. Bazoo Return is the deck that comes to mind that doesn't struggle with this problem.
Matches aren't played in theory. Most of the decks that I've won tournaments with were all decks that people whined were "too inconsistent to win tournaments." Return has a long, real-world history of being a very good card. Ironically enough, the first time that I saw Return seriously played in Goat Format was when people started siding it in their chaos decks to beat my Angel Chaos. It worked. Having an "oops, I win" card for control mirrors has a long history of being broken. The closest analogy that I can think of is the Thepths decks that dominated extended MTG in 2010. On paper it looked like nonsense, but it crushed everyone.
I’d argue that the idea of tier 1 and 2 doesn’t really apply in goat format (in the same way it does in modern yugioh). There is simply good decks and bad decks. Goat control is a good deck and can be teched to win any event, provided you have the right meta call, as you said. Most people will not bother with this and run Chaos Turbo variants. You mentioned their linear and consistent game plan. This makes it easy to pick up and perform well with. But in the hands of the competent player I feel goat control is similar to mimic chaos and angel chaos in that it can handle almost anything if you build a solid main + side. The build you mention ran by Dale features Abyss Soldiers, Zaborg, Double Asura (probably less good now with Scapegoat being played less) and some more standard cards like double Deko and MoF, single Tsukuyomi, and all the 1-off staples. He also drops Call (no AKP) and runs 2x Solemn, 2x Dustshoot and staple traps. Funnily enough though, several worlds GC lists did play AKP and one of them even topped.
No, the fact is that you don't have to setup for it, which is precisely what makes it so good. Against most of the meta, you're going to end up with a big-ass banish pile whether you want one or not.
@@GoatDuels I know what you mean. Also, I consider Return to be a bit better than Dimension Fusion (except in Mass Driver variants etc.) since you can always pay half your LP. It's especially strong in the Battle Phase combined with cards like Pitch-Black Warwolf
I like the video but I have to disagree goat control is way more consistent an still the best deck it was the best deck back in the day for a reason ppl pick chaos over goat bc like said it’s more of a linear goat goat have more Versatility if your a good player u shouldn’t have a problem beating chaos or any other deck
So much stuff happened this year, glad this video exists as a record of it
i've been playing return for months and it is sick

also i fucking KNEW getting your dekochi hit by NOC was a 200iq play ive been doing that shit for months at least
Apprentice Chaos with Return for Tier 0 2021.
I still wanna keep playing reasoning gate, but I’ll try to figure something out
I built that deck on db not too long ago. So fun
Return's problem is that you have to setup a win with it. Let me Last Will into Cyber-Stein and summon Last Warrior. GG

Right now, mystic tomato kind of sucks. And so does chaos.
Goat format is the best format
What a good content! Sub
Pac-Man is the answer.
