It's explained in the article why Exarion is generally allowed in Goat Format. I see little-to-no reason to disallow it. (Sure, this is coming from a guy who has never played Goat Format, but I can see the reasoning on both sides.)
Some Pony there are a bunch of articles why its allowed or not. i keep 2 spare in my box when i go play because there are people who like the card in the format despite that format never existing competitively in the tcg. i prefer to play the real tcg goat format but i dont exactly mind playing with exarion but id prefer to play real formats that took place since the format is supposed to be historically accurate and legacy focused.
@@romkin1197 What's the point of that? Traditional Format is even more busted than the main game and that's definitely saying a lot. What's the difference really between being hard FTK'd or soft FTK'd anyway? We don't need two broken formats.
Goat Format is like the Super Smash Bros Melee of Yu-Gi-Oh. The format is firmly as far as it will go, but has such a rich, versatile metagame that new strategies can still evolve more than a decade later
honestly, recently participated in a somewhat recent online tournament in a discord server and found that the deck that was used by the winner of the YCS 2005 still tops everything in GOAT, it's built pretty differently to what was shown in this video. Though it does have some weaknesses that can be exploited if you brick hard.
I'd like to sincerely thank you for posting this. Seeing this back so many memories. Goat Format was the format I got really hardcore/serious into YuGiOh. As you stated, I love it due to how skill intensive it is. Honestly, I highly recommend every player try it out. Because, to me it is a format that should never be forgotten. And to me, was YuGiOh's golden age.
honestly, this is basically yugioh's super smash bros melee. A rich developed meta game that while almost pushed as far as it will go, people are still finding new tech or strategies. Truly still an amazing game/format.
I made a neat variant of zombies in goat I call zombie flip control. The idea is to get out Practitioner of darkness to either force my opponents to attack into my flip monsters like night assailant or morphing jar for example or force them to think twice about attacking when I have a set monsters out since it could be a pyramid turtle which could lead to a Ryu getting out.
This video makes me ecstatic. With the GOAT community constantly on the rise, Yu-Gi-Oh can once again be played how it was meant to be played. Fun Fact: I learned about Yu-Gi-Oh because of a desk. You see, my mother bought a desk at a used furniture store and the seller forgot to empty it. Incredibly, there were 100 or so first-edition Yu-Gi-Oh cards inside. They even had "magic card" printed on the spells. It took me years and years to learn how to play the game since then, because I was 6 years old and I didn't know how to learn effectively. But I'll leave you with this: If another 6-year-old got that desk today, and it was filled with links, pendulums, and hand-traps, they can forget about playing Yu-Gi-Oh. Beyond powercreep, the barrier to entry has become too high.
I happened to be in high school when Goat Format took effect. Unlike today's toxic meta, Goat Format actually requires genuine skill, strategy, and timing, and I loved every bit of it. Rather than establishing an overwhelming board presence right at the start, playing methodically was the standard lest someone throw down a board wipe and overthrow control of the game state. Overcommitting in Goat Format almost always means death. Good to see you found an affinity for an old favorite format.
You got me VERY interested in the GOAT format, even though it is not as commonly spread in Germany (at least I believe so). It's the perfect opportunity to dig out vintage cards and have exciting battles, just like in the good ol' days. Gonna sausage-slap that like button!
The reason why Zoo wasn't touched upon in the past was because Exarion was released weeks before the format came to a close. Without Exarion, the deck is weaker. The big monsters had low defense making them prone to Tsukuyomi. A great substitute in non-exarion goat format events is King Tiger Wanghu. Decent attack, keeps opponent from walling up with Scapegoat, and kills Tsukuyomi on its summon. Skilled Dark Magician is a popular alternative to Berserk Gorilla too.
Twin Long Rods you clearly don't talk to other players outside your little circle very much because there is a lot of support. Your myth that links cripples decks is wrong too. You really need to browse UA-cam more because there are plenty of people discovering new combos that work with current cards. If anything, links make old decks better. Use your head dude. You're just like the people that said Yugioh was ruined when xyz and synchros came out. Fucking pleb.
Honestly, Links will be screwing me over for 90% of my decks until I get support in ,lets assume the worst because Konami, the next year or two. So I'm not too stoked about Links. Non-extra deck Harpies and Old School Six Samurai will be a hell of a downgrade to what they used to be. I'm just a casual and this hurts a lot. For the moment though, I am playing goat, trying to make Lightsworns work, and I will troll with some form of HATs and/or Yosenju. The set 4 stone age has returned and I will survive.
My favorite deck is Shaddolls, so Link Summoning will probably hurt my deck hard, but even I like the idea of slowing the game done a bit and bringing some new strategy based on the placement of the cards to the game. We will see what the future looks like, but i wouldn't be too negative about it.

As someone trying to get into yugioh with literally no past knowledge or experience, I’m definitely going to try this version over the modern version. It’s still intimidating as hell, but at least it isn’t the demonic behemoth that is modern yugioh. May take a few thousand hrs to learn but I’ll get there eventually.
Small correction on priority, you declare priority to activate your monster effect before your opponent activates a card like Bottomless. The only exception is if your opponent doesn't give you an opportunity to call priority.
I started playing goat format with a friend on ygo pro, cause i saw your decks in your collection video. I was searching for some skill format without syncro, xyz, pendulum and all the archetypes that are used nowadays. It's probably cheaper to buy a ds and Yugioh GX Spirit Caller than it is buying the cards. For anyone interested in the goat format, I'd suggest this since it's basically goat format: the game.
Exactly and in those games (I'd suggest Tag Force 1 too) you have a multitude of opponents (i.e decks) to play against, so it's not all people playing decks that are at least 60% similar in build
I played when I was little but I barely knew about the banlist. Learning about this really got me thinking how pot of greed, heavy storm, delinquent duo, brain control, card destruction and graceful charity were alive. Also how mst, call of the haunted and mirror were at 1 and look at them now being at 3. The game has really changed and i really enjoyed this video. Thanks yugi no no.
This has become my LGS tournament format for a while now, due to its popularity. And I definitely see the appeal as I myself have created a deck for it and will dive in deeper to try upgrading other favourite decks. Being Dragons and Flip monsters
Not mentioned: An assortment of cruddy fusion monsters because if you're playing Metamorphosis you might as well prepare for the off chance that you'll need to use it on something that's not level 1. (Also, I'm trying to design a Blue-Eyes deck for this format because Kaibaman is legal for the format and searchable by ROTA. Wish me luck!)
Did anyone know about Electric Snake? If Duo discards it, you draw 2 free cards. It's a light so it works with Chaos, and it's Spell Ruler so it's definately goat!
Some of the winning decks like SJ Indianapolis 2005 side decked Electric Snake going second. Plus it's a Light monster, but a bit of a gimmick/dead card if you don't draw it turn one when going second. Today people just roll with Night Assailant or just accept the turn one Duo cheese

You’re still using resources in yugioh. Goat format is just broken cards off the banlist paired with the fact that your decks are most likely near identical. Its one thing if you’re playing the same archetype like how todays games are, but all the key cards are probably in 99% of decks in that format.
@@LATownsRS yeah but too be fair thats exactly how pokemon has been, and probably magic too, and both of those games have lasted as long or longer than yugioh has. Modern yugioh is great with it's diversity, but it is such an easier buy in for new people if they can reuse a lot of their cards
Recently discovered goat format and I feel bad I didnt knew it till now I would love to recreate my favorite A Legendary Ocean Umi deck when I was a child
Was Horus Lockdown any good in this format? I was in elementary when this format was a thing, and never got into the competitive scene, but thought about it as a concept.
Found a game online called DMO short for Duel Monsters online, its old and mostly dead now, but it stops at magician's force, the closest yugi nostalgia simulator i've seen, just no population anymore :(
If we all start stop buying cards from Konami and make our own fair banlist. They might make this game fair again and stop the meta game pay to win rotation
Also giant trunade was at 3 which many people forget lol and mind crush and trap dust shoot were also at 3, but people usually deviate away from main decking those cards as it's kind of frowned upon
Dear Yu-Gi-Oh Jesus, thanks you for sending that Zoo player to make me realise that Goat Control was the main deck of a legacy format and not an actual deck in this Zoo/True Draco format (although I love the "Goat Control" deck I made not knowing what it was). Thanks to you I managed to finally have back and forth games that often (if not always) lasted over 20 turns. P.S. Do you know of a way to duel someone online with Exarion? Because all my friends stopped caring about the game and duelingbook doesn't seem to like Exarion xD.
Ah now this is something I can understand. I stopped playing competitive when lightsworns came along just before the game was ruined by becoming extra deck focused. This was a great time for the game though.
The only thing that is debated about this format is Exarion being legal or not... personally as a purist I don’t think Exarion should be legal because it does change the way the format is played... that’s a largely agreed upon opinion, other than that this is a crazy good resource for anyone who was curious about the format!
The requests for this video make me wonder the average age of your fanbase, considering most of us were kids who likely didn't play meta decks at the time of this format.
ima be honest I thought The Dark Side of Dimensions was more of a UA-cam abidgred series. The tone and dialogue really caught me off guard. and plus apparently Seto Kaiba is obssessed with an ancient pharoah who he really wants to see again. aw how sweet. Plus, Kaiba be running Kaiba Corp while Yugi and friends are still in high school. did he graduate before them or did he drop out?
Yugi Jesus, have you considered the Ultimate Matchup for the centuries? A Goat Format duel or match with decks based off of Yugi and Kaiba? The Like Button would be dickslapped so much it would be unable to be dickslapped any more
Exarion was a bit of a Schrodinger's Cat case-on paper the tin was released after Cybernetic Revolution like you said, but the tins for Exarion were shipped early to most card stores in late August before CRV boosters were. That was why in early Goat they had ExarU legal before eventually agreeing to softban it to be more accurate to the time place it was released, as well as diversify decks since the card was centralizing.
I love 2014 formats we had d rulers satellarknights artifacts Nekroz Shaddolls burning abyss hat etc alot of good decks honestly and it was better than same 2 top tier deck formats
So these are the famous Goat Format decks? I didn't follow Yugioh as much as I do now and always wondered how the standard build was made and played. Just curious, but I wonder what I more "modern" version of a Goat Control deck or something similar from this format would look like if the player had access to more modern cards? Not saying it would have a chance it would stand up to the decks we have now or not, but definitely be interesting to see if someone took up the challenge and build a modern variation of this deck just for fun without having to worry much about the ban lists or card sets available.
I know this may sound very hard working, but you could do a series of videos (like this one) applied to all formats that the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG version went through. I believe people would certainly like it (especially I)!
Hey yuginono, just wanted to say your the reason I bought two goat decks last night! Your channel is awesome! Would you be up to doing a video on the other decks of the format like the chaos variants and zoo? EDIT: You got me. You are awesome. Thank you.
I like the idea of Goat Format but at the same time I wish it allowed cards from the OCG released before TLM that were brought to the TCG way after April ‘05. Cards like Berfomet, Kunai With Chain, Gilford the Lightning, Temple of the Kings, Magical Stone Excavation, and of course, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, which was released in the fall of 2005 in the TCG.
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon was actually released in very early 2006, but your point still stands. I have a Meteor Black Dragon that I wish was legal in Goat because it would have been a great beat stick to put in with any deck using Lv. 8 monsters and Metamorphosis.
In Europe, we ban Exarion Universe, because the card was in the meta for a day/some say wasn't released at the time. makes it more fair and balanced in my opinion.
Let's see if we can get a thousand dickslaps on that like button!

The only thing that is debated about this format is Exarion being legal or not... personally as a purist I don’t think Exarion should be legal because it does change the way the format is played... that’s a largely agreed upon opinion, other than that this is a crazy good resource for anyone who was curious about the format!
perfect timing I just got the rest of my goat control deck yesterday
woah!! my name is in the beginning I'm so hyped lmao
pretty soon there will be a format that doesn't use link monsters lol

New card.... GOAT CHEESE SPELL CARD
Didn’t realize how much 1st ed thousand eyes restrict was worth...
Yugi Jesus, have you considered the Ultimate Matchup for the centuries?
A Goat Format duel or match with decks based off of Yugi and Kaiba?
The Like Button would be dickslapped so much it would be unable to be dickslapped any more
a blast from the past :D
Tfw exarion came out in November 2005 big think dawg
Wait what? It came out September 1st 2005 lol. Was part of Goat's last few weeks.
Who’s here after hearing Ruxin mention goat format all the time lol
If you can't explain a format in 2-4 sentences, you must be a special summon.
love it
So these are the famous Goat Format decks? I didn't follow Yugioh as much as I do now and always wondered how the standard build was made and played.
Just curious, but I wonder what I more "modern" version of a Goat Control deck or something similar from this format would look like if the player had access to more modern cards?
Not saying it would have a chance it would stand up to the decks we have now or not, but definitely be interesting to see if someone took up the challenge and build a modern variation of this deck just for fun without having to worry much about the ban lists or card sets available.
really miss that format
I know this may sound very hard working, but you could do a series of videos (like this one) applied to all formats that the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG version went through. I believe people would certainly like it (especially I)!
gravekeeper master race reporting in.
Matthew Milliken oh yeah gks in goat format are 2 good
I played the most in this format, lol nostalgia...
Wait, isn't Card of Safe Return unlimited and Manticore of Darkness at two? Why isn't Manticore OTK among the big decks?
MORE !!! MORE !!! MORE !!!
Hey yuginono, just wanted to say your the reason I bought two goat decks last night! Your channel is awesome! Would you be up to doing a video on the other decks of the format like the chaos variants and zoo? EDIT:
You got me. You are awesome. Thank you.
Whoops sorry lol
8 monsters and Metamorphosis.
amazing.
"Most modern GOAT decks" is such a funny sentence to me.
Why? The format has evolved since 2005. Zoo beatdown is the best example of that.
In Europe, we ban Exarion Universe, because the card was in the meta for a day/some say wasn't released at the time. makes it more fair and balanced in my opinion.
