  • This is what it involved to replace only the air spring on a D4 audi a8 2011- 2017.
Much like the D3 2004-2010, the manufacturer only wants to sell the spring and damper as a single unit saying it is not serviceable. (3600$ part )
This is how to service it.

Almost no one does this repair. If you ask around, they'll want to replace the struts for $2600USD a pop plus labor

thats a crazy price for a new strut you got there, here in europe I can buy a new genuine air strut for this car for 755 €

thats dealer only here. No one sells them aside from dealer. And aftermarket are junk not adaptative.
Can you share the dealer that sells them? for 1000$ ? Might be worth importing if the damper is bad or top seal isnt good.

@@Nordic_Mechanic It seems like I can't post links here so the company name is Apart - Air Suspension Parts , their website is like this: air-suspension-parts "dot" de
They sell aftermarket but also OEM air struts. The OEM struts they have I'm pretty sure are the exact same genuine struts like from the audi dealer. (by the way the audi dealer here wants 1800€ for a new air strut for the A8 D4)
I was thinking how is it possible that they are selling them so much cheaper and the only answer I can think of is that they are selling "expired genuine struts".
Long story short: if you buy a new air strut from the audi dealer then there is a sticker on the box with an expiration date of the strut (2-4 years), I kid you not. How I know?
A couple years ago I bought genuine struts from the audi dealer and there was indeed a sticker with the manufacturing date and also with the expiration date.
The audi dealer can't sell these "expired" but perfectly fine sturts, so this company most probably can somehow get these struts and sell them.

Great video, thanks a lot. I received two bags from China, it seems all the top seals are included. What are the set of keys you have at 5:43 to release the connector? Thanks again!

Wow you got the seals ! Guess my complaints didnt go unnoticed. That's awesome. D4 bags are a pain versu the D3. The set of keys are meant to remove connector pins. Very cheap

    Hi
I removed my airbag to check the strut. Everything was fine and I assembled everything back. After a test drive the car make bad noise over bumps. When I lifted the car the buttom of the airbag where it sits on the lower part of the strut flew up. I tried to change the oring but the noise is still there. Could you tell me what size oring I need and what I did wrong?

hard to say without seeing it. squeeking noise or banging noise? Did you set trim height for all the suspension bushings?

I agree. I have a bag that just went. Looking for parts to service the unit and found nothing but the unit. The type of work I’ve done over the years include replacing an air bag. Not serviceable is 😂😂😂

That`s air spring replacement is one of the more involved. D3 04-10 is a walk in the park vs 2011-2019. It requires a LOT of dexterity to get the top seal out without breaking it. Hopefully it goes great for you as well.

Hi. I'm having trouble putting it back in the car. I can't compress it to fit in the shock bracket. any advice?

    • @Nordic_Mechanic
      @Nordic_Mechanic  Рік тому

Yep, remove the residual valve where the lines goes in. It will be way easier to compress by hand. Otherwise, air gets trapped in the air srping.
