I've a done couple of thousand miles in London on Grom. This thing is an absolute weapon in a dense city traffic. Combined with the insane fuel economy and low maintenance it is a perfect machine to commute in a big city, I'd say.
A great review as usual. I restored a 125 for my son's partner and rediscovered that you don't need a big bike to enjoy motorcycling, they are a lot of fun. These bikes prove this
Looks an absolute hoot ,I find these small capacity bikes with the cub type engines always put a smile on my face . You cannot feel miserable riding one ,it doesn’t matter if you look ridiculous as no body knows who you are with a full face helmet on anyway 👍.
@@whollymindless One of my bikes is a 2004 Honda Innova 125 cc 9 •3 hp ,4 speed auto clutch step thru . It will keep up with most traffic on normal roads with out using full throttle . some lighter riders have seen 70 mph on clock in favourable conditions . These type of bikes are not about speed ,or motorway riding , they are cheap & cheerful fun runabouts & bimbler’s & will cruise at 50 to 55 mph on less than full open throttle & take you anywhere ,& places no large adventure bike ,could hope to get or fit into .
It would be difficult to make an air cooled fuel efficient 125 that meets euro 5 produce 15 bhp. All the 125’s that come near the 15bhp limit are water cooled. This would take away from the simplicity of design of these mini bikes. There are water cooled 125’s that are over 14bhp if you wanted one and they tend to cost about a grand more. These bikes are not designed just for the U.K. market, as the U.K. market is tiny.
Morning Andy, loved the last review of the mini bike series. A case of here today, Grom tomorrow! I know the Grom has a huge cult following and would make a great little fun bike as would the Dax and Monkey, as you say they are bikes you can have fun on without going silly speeds, though living in Wales where our government is about to impose the 20mph built up speed limit on us without consultation they are capable of silly speeds😳 Anyway, ride safe.
Nice to seeing you warming to the delights of the Mini bikes as you've progressed through them Andy, I had guessed the Grom would be your favourite, as to the small wheels that is the best part and what sets them apart from other motorcycles, the lively nature that brings is where the joy comes from, in much the same way a classic Mini drives compared to modern cars.
I see what you mean about a new bike - the knobbly bits were still on the tyres as well as the multi-coloured paint rings. And yet again you have also shown us that you don’t need buckets of money or mahoosive amounts of power to have fun. Great stuff.
Another great review... this is why I watch your channel. Appreciate that you bring the same level of professionalism to every episode. My garage looks a lot like yours, and I normally wouldn't have interest in these mini-bikes, but after hearing the enthusiasm you genuinely have for these bikes, now I'm thinking I might be able to squeeze in a Grom or maybe the Monkey bike :). Thank you for what you do.
Great video. Saw one of these at a Honda dealer a couple of weeks ago and it just drew me to it. ( Got to discuss with the wife). Love it if you could an "old bike" video on a ZZR1100.
“Who doesn’t like a Honda Grom?” It was you two years ago😂 I’m soo glad you’ve taken the plunge, ridden one and seen how fun they are. There are fewer things more enjoyable than you and a bunch of mates all out on Groms #gromsquad!
Me and my Mrs have these bikes on GC where we go around the island. We love them and have done 8000 km there without any problem. The Grom have also opened my eyes for a smaller capacity bike back home here in Sweden. I recently saw your review of Triumph 400. A fantastic bike. Thank you for your Nice reviews! Keep up with them 😀👌💪🏼 Cheers
Absolutely loving all these mini Honda reviews, thank you for doing them!! I’d defo recommend trying the super cub 125, bit of a wild card , but with bigger wheels they handle like a dream, loads of fun
I own the Benelli Tornado 125 converted to a mini scrambler, which just makes me laugh when I ride it. I genuinely love these mini bikes and I am teaching my wife to ride on it. Unfortunately I wish I had bought the Honda Grom because of the quality of the dealers, and I would recommend anyone looking at these bikes to buy the Grom. Its worth the difference.
Great review, thank you sir. I was tossing up between Honda's CB125F or the Grom for my commute to work, and after seeing this I'm opting for the Grom. I'll hopefully pass my test next week :D
That colour scheme really suits the Grom, and I like that there's a proper dash on this 125. Honda are knocking it out of the park with their selection of 125cc fun bikes. Surely it's only a matter of time before we see the CT125 on our shores.
Funny that they still have the same signal lamps that was on my 2014 Grom. I was going to buy a CT125 but the Grom makes more sense. Lighter, shift indicator, bigger fuel tank, aftermarket parts. Just going to buy new chain adjusters, top case rack, big block tires, miroirs and yes change those blinkers 😅
A bit of trivia: in the parlance of surfers, snowboarders and skateboarders a "Grom" is a youth (usually under the age of 15) that is an enthusiast of surfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, etc. which may explain Honda's naming strategy. As an adult, I'd rock a Honda Grom.
I had a grom and loved it to the tune of £2000 worth of custom bits that made it go 2mph faster😂. WARNING these things can eat cash😂 Great fun though, you will laugh out loud on one😎
I cannot believe they’re nearly 10 years old lol. I started riding 8 years ago and these were the bikes used in the school I learnt at. I can’t say the on road section of the training inspired me to get a 125 for my first bike as my school was on a 100km road so that first experience sticking to the side at 78kmh getting passed by traffic going 110 wasn’t exactly confidence inspiring! But I do remember them being a lot of fun on the closed course sections of the training!
I really want a grom. They always look so fun to ride. I just sold my Yamaha xj6 because of things in my life, so no motorbike at the moment, but if I were to get a motorbike, I would definitely consider one of these. Yes I could go with something more powerful and that has a bigger engine, but these just look so fun. I would love to have one in the future as I do only need to do short trips to work and back, but I need some form of transportation as buses don’t run where I live as I live in countryside. But I have a car as well at the moment and the motorbike was costing more than the car due to my age and recently passing my motorcycle test. Can’t wait for the day I can own one of these motorbikes.
Thinking of getting one of these as a space saver bike, moved to a new house and don't have a garage or space for my bike one. But a Grom fits into a Keter storage bin!!! Do you think it would satisfy someone coming from a 600cc?
All agreed. Great motorcycle for its intended use. In the mountains of my home all smiles. There are some rear racks available for small carry along and tank bag. Not a big touring rig but if one wanted to go moto camping. that option is available
Hi Andy , we’ll I told you it the best road bike , monkey very close and benelli tnt aren’t bad either , you and mrs flyer in a pair of groms , perfect fun 🏍🏍👍👍
Great first ride review. Speaking your mind, you said right away that it's your favorite of Honda's Mini lineup. I have ridden the other Hondas, plus the Cub, but never the Grom. I look forward to your summation video and comparison insights.
Great Video as usual. I did consider one of these ,as you rightly pointed out ideal for the motorhome. However i decided that me and the Mrs looked a bit silly together on it. Btw, RAF Wycombe ( strategic command now) was Bomber Command in WW2, Bomber Harris used to lodge at West Wycombe house and drive his Bently up to Bomber Command in under 10 minutes (i read). He used to try and beat his record occasionally. Then it became Strike Command, i like you, live not far from it and it will be a target for any WW3. Hopefully i will be vapourised immediatley and know nothing about it.
Love the wee Grom and for a shorter gentleman like myself the perfect size for getting out and about. Where did you get the GoPro mount from on front of bike? Great video keep it up.👍
Only suited for small rides and commuting imho. Small wheels so every pothole is a danger. No luggage capacity. No weather protection at all. Single cylinder so you have to rev it to get a bit of power. It looks cute though. 350cc is the lower limit for me because you get a normal sized bike to sit on.
I’m 5’2 and weigh about 44kg. I’ve been thinking about getting a bike, and I think a grom as my first would be good but I’m not the biggest fan of the wheels; and it might not be a great idea for the long run. Does anyone know any bikes that are similar in size with the grom?
Hi TMF, lovely review! I've loved the groms (well the idea of one) for years. Finally decided to get my license and trying to find a first bike to learn on. I know you touched on it briefly but i'd like to hear a few more of your thoughts if you wouldn't mind. I've just done my CBT and looking for a 125 to get a bit more experience between lessons. I'm 29 so I will be going for my full license in the coming months, all going well. I'm 5'11 and around 11stone. My only concern is if I have a Grom to learn on in between lessons and tests, do you think that would be too much of a difference in size/weight/handling etc. when I do go for my tests on the bigger bikes and also when I eventually come to buy a bigger bike? Any input is really appreciated, cheers!
Yes I do - I think in your case see if you can get a decent used full size 125 to learn on and then sell on once you’ve passed your test and will be itching for something bigger….
Great review thanks Andy would be my choice out of the Honda 125 would improve my riding skills. Don’t know how these smalls wheels handle but I am sure you get use to them.
Just did my 6th CBT on one of these. At first I was like omg what is this a joke. Out on the road the light weight about 100kg is definitely noticeable, like not carrying a 25 liter water container around permanently. I was actually very impressed with it. Has abs on the front too. If space was a concern then this would be ideal, like a 50cc scooter size motorcycle. 😎👍
Thanks Mr. Flyer. What a great little bike, definitely my favorite of the three "minis" especially the colour option you chose here. How would you compare this (and the other two) to a "normal" 125cc such as the Suzuki that Mrs. Flyer rides for example?
Good question - feels less underpowered weirdly (maybe to do with the size…) but all told I’d still rather have a full size 125, I think for me the novelty of the mini bikes would quickly wear off….
Looks great fun TMF ,unfortunately I'm in the Chopsy camp 6ft 3 so would look ridiculous on the wee bikes 🙁 mores the pity !! Great review as per usual .👍😁
Hello, thank you for the review. I had 2021 CB125F before, from pure fun perspektive, is the Grom nicer to ride than CB125F? Thank you! Greetings from Slovakia
Looks like a great bike for around town or a computer. Might be difficult for a taller rider I agree. I just watched Teapot One crew weekend on Isle of man. Great fun. Isle of man looks like a smashing ride.
10:55 A wing flapping Hawker Hurricane? Now I know why so many air combat simulations got their Hurricane Mk. Is wrong: They modelled their virtual ones after this rather sick looking specimen. 😊
some after market company should make a "convert your honda to have the horn / indicators switches in the CORRECT positions" mod. As for the Grom, I guess I'm glad it exists. Not everyone is 5 foot 11 inches or taller. For me, at 5'11", I just find mini bikes too cramped. When I was a learner, I did also find that fuller size 125cc bikes are really underpowered for 16 1/2 stone fatties like me ! Something like a 350cc Hunter would have probably been fine, I reckon I could have been trusted with one of those as a Learner bike, but well that's not "Da RuleZ" !!
What a lovely little bike IMO definitely the nicest of the mini bikes, if it had another 5 or 6bhp I'd be very tempted to get one as a town bike but the 9bhp seems a wee bit anaemic for A roads, nevertheless very well made and seems a bargain.
Not too sure if the C125 Super Cub, with it's 17" wheels qualifies as a 'Mini Bike' but if you think so, and would like to complete the set, I have one, and only live about 3 - 4 miles from you. So, if you want to give it a go, let me know and you can ride mine.
It’s such a shame Honda didn’t introduce the CT125 into their lineup. I feel sure it would wipe the floor in sales over the 3 bikes you’ve tested. However great reviews Andy.
I'm about to buy my Minimoto next month, had a 2014 Grom back in 2014. Still not sure if I should go for the Grom or the Monkey. The Grom has a lot going for the price, the Monkey is the best looking of the two but it comes at a price. In Canada the Grom sell for 4,800$ and the Monkey goes for 6,130$. Is it worth the 1,300$ premium for the Style? What is your thoughts between both?
Wasted to much time on space command and planes came here for the bike tat tat... Good review till that part.. I've got a z650 but only use it back forth work wondering if this could do over 120 miles journey each week about 26 a day...
That amazing little engine can be traced right back to the 1960s in various bikes from the c70 to ss50 mopeds and various 125s. I wonder if Honda even know how many have been made? Amazing to think they also make the mighty Gold Wing and my Deauville for that matter.
Hi.. i saw this video so i thought that i should ask you to give me a suggestion. I am a female, weight 51 kg, height 5'2.5". yesterday i learned how to ride a manual bike on CB125F. I was easily handled that bike and i pushed a little too. The weight of this bike is 117 kg. One of the man suggested that i should buy a g310r which is 158 kg but the seat height is not bad for me. The other option he mentioned is GSX S125. So Don't you think that these above mentioned bikes will be difficult for me to pass my test? I am not very strong. I heard that in bikes tests, examiner will ask me to push the bikes without sitting on it. The seat height should be 30 to 31 inches according to my height. Please suggest something. 🙏
@@TheMissendenFlyer yeah, I noticed that. Didn’t really look like there was enough room on the seat though. As you said, it would be good for motorhomers. We take a Vespa scooter in ours but it fills the garage area. The grom looks perfect for the job if I can keep the wife on the back!!
I agree the allowed 15hp for 125s should be used for all 125s, it does make a massive difference, the grom and TNT are great looking but are not powerfull/Fast enough even for fun....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ahh Yes but so is a push bike but you are not comparatively paying mega bucks, I have just got rid of my TNT because it just couldn't cut it on anything but a B road, safety in mind the 15hp makes all the difference.. great looking bikes though
Have to disagree about the looks Andy esp with that tank echoing the headlight. The plethora of choices for bikes these days is getting towards the problems with choosing paint colours or kitchen styles??? Maybe I'm just old.
Monkey and Dax re unique. Groms are for. kids.wiith ASBO. .For adults, Pointless - If you want a street naked , buy a proper one. Monkey and Dax though , are different class. They are genuinely classic, looking, fantastic, to ride and not mini versions of anything. If you are 17, Grom it. If not, get the Monkey or Dax. Way cooler 😂
I live about 500 meters away from the spitfire and Hurricane at RAF High Wycombe. I agree with you that Bradenham is quintessentially British there’s some lovely walks that you and MRs flyer might enjoy. Or even the whole family if you’re a glutton for punishment. Your also welcome to all come round for a barbecue at our house. If you would like to.
Looks a fun bike for a newby, light and basic. . Not sure I like the looks though a bit fisher price to my eyes. Do like a light bike though so accessible.
@@TheMissendenFlyer going to attempt a coolent change on my Street triple today, 2012 R, black and gold with arrow pipes! You should get another it suited you well 😎
Unfortunately Politicians over many decades from all parties have ruined this country, so it`s great to see these gate gaurdians, even if they are fibreglass replica`s. Talking of Spitfires, any chance of you doing a flight in one of the twin seat Spits, or the Twin seat Hurricane?, that would make great video content. Great video Andy, i do like the Honda mini bikes, they seem such fun, but would make an excellent commuter bike.
Always on indicators are dangerous. In sunny conditions someone might mistake those for indicating. Didn't think Honda wanted their riders to get into accidents.
Power should be exactly the same on the 5speed Grom and Monkey. Not a fan of the new Grom looks. The first and second generation Grom's are way better looking

Makes a big difference at these levels - mine is 14.7 and it accelerates with most cars fine.

Great first look, as ever.
It was launched in 2013 in Thailand where it is made. It was introduced to the USA in 2014. SP stands for “Street Performance”.
Thanks for the info!
The Grom ( MSX125) is very popular with the young, as a proper motorbike, in Thailand where it costs 70,000 baht = £1,630 on the road.

Thanks for watching and for stopping by - much appreciated!
Shame you didn't get to test the Cub. The most practical of the 4.
Hello, thank you for the review. I had 2021 CB125F before, from pure fun perspektive, is the Grom nicer to ride than CB125F? Thank you! Greetings from Slovakia
It’s more fun due its size, yes!
Looks like a great bike for around town or a computer. Might be difficult for a taller rider I agree.
I just watched Teapot One crew weekend on Isle of man. Great fun.
Isle of man looks like a smashing ride.
Yes, I’ve never been….
Great little bike looks good quality is it comfortable being such a small machine great vid by the way
Yes it is comfortable - doesn’t feel too much different to a full size bike in the comfort stakes…
10:55 A wing flapping Hawker Hurricane? Now I know why so many air combat simulations got their Hurricane Mk. Is wrong: They modelled their virtual ones after this rather sick looking specimen. 😊
Grom looks the best of the bunch.
some after market company should make a "convert your honda to have the horn / indicators switches in the CORRECT positions" mod.
As a person who is 165 cm high (about 5ft 5inches and a bit), I giggle when I hear you say you are small-medium size. LOL!
Do you consider yourself tall then?
@@TheMissendenFlyer 😂 I look up to people of your stature!
Hi Andy, yet another great review 👍 lovely little bike but not for me at 6'6'' love to have a go and be like a mini moto 🤣🤣👍🏍🏁
Yes I think it might be a bit of a squeeze in your case….
Super cubs are very underrated and can hustle once you get used to the gear box!
It’s such a shame Honda didn’t introduce the CT125 into their lineup. I feel sure it would wipe the floor in sales over the 3 bikes you’ve tested. However great reviews Andy.
Yes maybe….thanks for watching Andy!
Agreed

The CT is a great little bike but it's looks are very divisive, a lot of people take them for mopeds.
huh but they do make a ct 125
I'm about to buy my Minimoto next month, had a 2014 Grom back in 2014.
Still not sure if I should go for the Grom or the Monkey. The Grom has a lot going for the price, the Monkey is the best looking of the two but it comes at a price. In Canada the Grom sell for 4,800$ and the Monkey goes for 6,130$.
Is it worth the 1,300$ premium for the Style?
What is your thoughts between both?
I prefer the Grom….
So sad our youth today don’t have the chance to ride these bikes.
Can this bike support two people (driver/passenger)? How is gas consumption?
Yes - and very light!
Wasted to much time on space command and planes came here for the bike tat tat... Good review till that part.. I've got a z650 but only use it back forth work wondering if this could do over 120 miles journey each week about 26 a day...
Yes no problem…
is the neautral still iffy when stoped
Not that I noticed?
It would be great if Honda put a 250cc engine in. It would be an absolute hoot.
Someone's actually don't an engine conversion in one of these groms. A honda cr500 2 stroke. Its an absolute animal..
CR500=🤕💀
That amazing little engine can be traced right back to the 1960s in various bikes from the c70 to ss50 mopeds and various 125s. I wonder if Honda even know how many have been made? Amazing to think they also make the mighty Gold Wing and my Deauville for that matter.
60 million and counting apparently. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Super_Cub
Hi.. i saw this video so i thought that i should ask you to give me a suggestion.
My wife is in a similar position - we bought her a GSXS125 - it’s a great bike with the lowest seat in its class….
Just wondering how the Grom handled the hill from Hughenden up to Naphill.
Fine!
Looks good. Could you get a pillion on?
It has pillion pegs so I guess so!
Doesn't the s.p stand for single person? , Another great review 👍
It has pillion pegs! ….and thanks…
@@TheMissendenFlyer just googled it and it's saying s.p on Honda's 125's mean smart power 🤷
Can the Grom comfortably do 50mph?
Yes!
Will do that all day long.
I'm curious , did Mrs. Flyer try this one?
No - insurance stopped play…
I agree the allowed 15hp for 125s should be used for all 125s, it does make a massive difference, the grom and TNT are great looking but are not powerfull/Fast enough even for fun....
They seemed like fun to me!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Ahh Yes but so is a push bike but you are not comparatively paying mega bucks, I have just got rid of my TNT because it just couldn't cut it on anything but a B road, safety in mind the 15hp makes all the difference.. great looking bikes though
What’s the seat like after say 20 miles
Ok
You've still got to review the honda trail 125, honda super cub 125, and kawasaki z125, then the mini bike series will be complete!
I’m not sure the cub is a mini bike is it???
@@TheMissendenFlyer True, it's kind of a scooter.
Come on Honda, why can we not get this gearbox in the C125 / CT125 ?
Beautiful mini bike. And beautiful countryside with a nice weather you're having. Cheers.
That was the last good weather we had!
Have you tried the benelli TNT 125
It's no comparison to the grom. Grom is better in every way. The tnt is a shite Chinese bike.
I have as it happens!
Took me no time at all to get use to honda indicators on my cb500x, but if I need the horn in a hurry I can't often find the damn thing with my thumb🤦
Me neither!
We actually want one as a company bike 😅
Have to disagree about the looks Andy esp with that tank echoing the headlight.
The plethora of choices for bikes these days is getting towards the problems with choosing paint colours or kitchen styles???
Maybe I'm just old.
Hey TMF! Looking good on those mini-bikes! When I first saw the photo, I thought the logo said Girl Power and that you'd turned all Woke!!
Thank you very much! And yes, we’ve done those walks many times….
@@TheMissendenFlyer that’s good I’ll have to look out for you next time.
Riders should wear a high visibility jacket or vest. In traffic, something that small is almost invisible.
Fair point
Anyone know if at 6ft + 16 and a half stone I would I be too big to get away with riding one of these?
I think you might be pushing it a little yes.....
Looks a fun bike for a newby, light and basic. . Not sure I like the looks though a bit fisher price to my eyes. Do like a light bike though so accessible.
Yes I think I agree with that….
At £6000 for a 30 minute flight unlikely!!
How can this be a grom review, not a single wheelie or any hooliganism was shown. 😄😉
😂
Always on indicators are dangerous. In sunny conditions someone might mistake those for indicating. Didn't think Honda wanted their riders to get into accidents.
I’m sure there must be some studies/science supporting why Honda think this is a good idea…
Power should be exactly the same on the 5speed Grom and Monkey.
Not a fan of the new Grom looks. The first and second generation Grom's are way better looking
I prefer this one personally…
Does it take a lot of effort to have at least some 3rd party footage of the bike running to include in a review?
Yes it does
Looks great. Proper front mudguard too.
