  • Who says E standard can't sound heavy? In this metal rhythm lesson, you're going to learn two super heavy riffs that you can play in standard tuning.
    ***This lesson is from my video '7 Methods for Playing Heavy RIffs in E Standard Tuning' here:
    • 7 Methods for Playing ...
    These riffs have a doom metal feel to them. And these will sound even heavier if you add a 5 string bass.
    Oh, and hang around for our Guitar Chat at the end of the lesson.
    If this video helped you, please give it a thumbs up and make sure you're subscribed to my channel.

    Okay, seeing this video late but I just played this riff, THIS IS DOPE! Thanks for the tip Jason! I'm gonna mess with dark riffs like this

    Definitely a heavier vibe with this one Jason, love it. Need to do more bar work though as my grip felt it even just holding down the two notes with the index finger. You mentioned how using a 5 string bass can make it sound heavier; any chance you could do a video on how you achieve this please 🤘🤘. I don't have a 5 string bass yet, but considering getting one as well as still considering a 7 string guitar (maybe a little less after this video)..

      Yeah I need to put something new out there with the 5 string bass!! That makes a world of difference!

    I prefer heavy riffs with a standard tuning instead of drop because I like those low 4th's. It sounds like a tractor.

      @@jasonstallworth I'm so committed to heavy riffs my guitar only has 4 strings. I have it in C standard and a wound 3rd

    throw a 4-3 bar slide in there, and you've got some Show No Mercy, going on.

    If you bar the E string, isn't that changing it from an D chord to an A chord essentially?

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 місяці тому +1

      Not in this case. You're still playing the D chord but with that lower octave of the 5th. These are also called inversions (I should have mentioned that)

    Thanks Jason. By the way, are you using 9-46 strings on that guitar?

    • @jasonstallworth
      @jasonstallworth  2 місяці тому +1

      I use the super lights, 9-42. Here’s a video on the breakdown of strings I use for electric and acoustic: ua-cam.com/video/hNdBsMtylR4/v-deo.htmlsi=S9eQluh6n3DnDRAq

    The last bit there, aren't those 'death chords'?

      They can certainly be used for that style
