Paul's public demeanour was never the same after John died, about two weeks after this interview. He stayed cheerful of course, but he was somehow different. It's hard to pinpoint exactly how, but I think it's definitely true.
Crissti - Absolutely, 'less upbeat', yes that seems the sort of thing, there was always (and is to this day) a sadness just beneath the surface after John died I think - after Linda as well of course. (I've always thought that the Pipes of Peace video, 1982, was, in parts of it, Paul giving us signs of how he was really feeling.) Peace from Wales x.
Oh yeah, that was exactly the thing I wanted to comment until I saw yours. His character changed and as you said, his public appearance as well. RIP John 😔💔🕯
I don't know what it was, obviously because all of it happened way before I was born but all I can see is that Paul hasn't shut up about him ans John since 1981 to even today! There's probably something he could never come to terms with. Probably when you lose someone you loved once under shocking circumstances, you can't seem to remember why you stopped liking them... and you try to compensate for the moments wasted in fights by repeating to yourself that you loved each other after all... Or probably he was repetitively asked about it too much and his stories officially made the John-Paul saga legendary... I don't really know the guy to say much but yeah he definitely talks about John way too much, never so much about George though.
Just imagine if Paul had been with John that night at the studio hanging out with John while John was recording Double Fantasy, Paul might have caught a stray bullet. Not good!!
But he said that they couldn't really apologize to each other. It was more like, they were friends but the fight wasn't forgotten. And Paul still hasn't come to terms with that.
Macca saying "somewhere in England" could be a reference to the album George Harrison was making at the time. The record label apparently rejected the original cover and it was finally released in 1981.
Wow, it was only two weeks before John was shot and yet, you can see that he was almost a different person afterwards or at least his character and public appearance changed...Well, we can't blame him. RIP John😔🕯💔
Linda was so cool and underrated at first I always thought she was kind of plain Jane looking until I finally got a chance to see her being interviewed and I can see what Paul saw in her it wasn't just looks she had a great personality and a sense of humor I believe that she was Paul McCartney's only real love and now he doesn't have her anymore I think she is down right good looking nice and smoking hot and sexy rest in peace Linda have been watching a lot of your interviews lately
@BobReidy it was my understanding from fred's book, that in Jan 1980 before leaving new york for japan, and the bust, that paul phoned, or came, to the dakota to have a smoke, and brag about staying in the hotel suite that john and yoko always used when in tokyo. allegedly john had yoko arrange the bust whilst in a rage towards macca. there's probably no telling, really. besides claiming the break-up for himself, macca also purportedly bought up some extra shares in northern songs in 70/69.
Too bad I was only 6 during 1980. I would like to have been at least a teenager and with the knowledge and personality and likes I have now, so I could have watched and enjoyed this as it aired, instead of now, 31 years later. :(
I remember seeing this as a kid. Loved it because it was all Beatles related. The news at the time about Ringo's new album that was supposed to be titled Can't Fight Lightning. George took back a song he wrote for Ringo that was later reworked as All Those Years Ago. Just think at this time John was still alive & about a week & half later he would be gone. Also saw Ringo's Caveman movie at the time. Not his best but just saw it because he starred in it. Never got to see Paul's Rockshow tour movie at the time.
I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of ABC News' Good Morning America's Entertainment News Report On Part 1 Of Paul McCartney And Linda McCartney On Thursday Morning, November 27, 1980.
@LasgalenOsten So he saw John not long before his death? It's too bad that they never hashed out their differences and said "I forgive you" while they had the chance....
Sadly, this was right before his life and the world was changed forever.! The sad death of his brother John, ( I think he is cute and I owe him a whole lot.) Rock Show was okay, but Wings Over The World was a whole lot better. Saw it in theaters.
@BobReidy yeah charlie swan, or whoever that guys name was. i don't have dakota days anymore. although, i gotta say, it was almost as enlightening as seaman's book. but, the fact also remains that ono had really good connections in japan. i believe her family was one of the preeminent families in japan! admittedly, she was the black sheep, and this led to alot of conflict with them. but between all this and her and john's burgeoning reputation for spending summers in japan, its possible, no?
I watched this show when it was on live in 1980!
I LOVE PAUL & LINDA!
I think they were HIGH! HA
I went to the movie premier at the Dominion Theatre, in London. Paul was there. Couldn't see him crowd was too big!!

I agree. His demenour (in public at least) was somehow changed. Less upbeat somehow.

How awkward for Paul some old guy telling him he's cute and asking him if he thought he was cute...weird

HE IS STILL CUTE FOR 68
Less than two weeks before John was shot.
Cute face + cute gestures = Paul Mccartney 😍😍
Love the reaction of the female host when she was asked if Paul was cute.. Love her smile too.. 😊😊
"Live by satellite". It was AMAZING technology then...
Two weeks before John was killed.
It's said that Paul and John were really starting to get along in the 1980's and having dinner often. Such a sad thing to happen to John.
The last time they met was 24th April 1976
They only met a couple of times after the Beatles acrimonious split . Don’t believe everything you read or see
It's sad to think that less than two weeks after this, John would be dead.
11 days to be exact.
very sad to think some days later John was murdered.
Just imagine if Paul had been with John that night at the studio hanging out with John while John was recording Double Fantasy, Paul might have caught a stray bullet. Not good!!
"It's not a reunion but it's close." About 11 days later: John is shot dead...😔💔
That's not true at all, Paul has talked many time about how grateful he is that he and John were good friends again before he died.
But he said that they couldn't really apologize to each other. It was more like, they were friends but the fight wasn't forgotten. And Paul still hasn't come to terms with that.

Paul really shone as a star on his own.
Paul is About to
LOSE his
Best Mate‼️John
💟☮️🌟♥️♥️🌟☮️💟
A true genius ❤️ they all were👍
Wow, it was only two weeks before John was shot and yet, you can see that he was almost a different person afterwards or at least his character and public appearance changed...Well, we can't blame him.
RIP John😔🕯💔
That "somewhere" would be Peasmarsh in Sussex England. Nearest village, Rye.
His eyes
11 days later... 12/8/80 John was murdered
ahhh he's so adorable long live Paul McCartney
CUTE AND HONESOME..
This was just days before John's death 😔
To my knowledge Paul always lived in England mostly.
I wonder if Lennon was watching this that day
Linda was so cool and underrated at first I always thought she was kind of plain Jane looking until I finally got a chance to see her being interviewed and I can see what Paul saw in her it wasn't just looks she had a great personality and a sense of humor I believe that she was Paul McCartney's only real love and now he doesn't have her anymore I think she is down right good looking nice and smoking hot and sexy rest in peace Linda have been watching a lot of your interviews lately

This sounds a little bit like Stevie Riks' parody...😅🤔
Not true, they talked on the phone and were good friends again before he died.
It's been 30 years since I first saw this. Thank you for posting
Too bad I was only 6 during 1980. I would like to have been at least a teenager and with the knowledge and personality and likes I have now, so I could have watched and enjoyed this as it aired, instead of now, 31 years later. :(
PEACE AND LOVE TO PAUL & LINDA McCARTNEY!!!!!😃👍☮️❤️
He was in New York just before days, he saw John this time :( glad he got to see him though.
In 0:31, the moderator is making a referrence to John "somewhere in New York". Less than two weeks later, John was murdered. Terrible! 😔🕯💔

What's with the eyebrows?
Yep, the arched right eyebrow looks shaved and fake.
currently watching this on the same date they aired this interview 36 years ago 😁
I remember this like yesterday....so sad.
Paul cute and talent, Linda ...mmm🤔

Erik Stone Yes
@LasgalenOsten So he saw John not long before his death? It's too bad that they never hashed out their differences and said "I forgive you" while they had the chance....
@The SNES Man Do you think Paul was in such good state to visit the crime scene of his best friend's murder?🤔
Very misleading clip. This is just a serious of promos.

Not the original McCartney . This is Faul without a doubt
Ah "Coming Up" @ 1:11, I see what you did there...lol
in this Paul says who wants to see behind the scenes on tour. eight days a week :)
@windsors David Hartman's an actor, that's why!
David Hartman with Joan Fox wasn t she nice looking
Rob Moir Joan Lunden
@ced95570 I know
HECK YEAH
why didnt they say anything about John?
John was still alive back then. And Paul didn't really have much to do with him, except beginning being friends again...
@@m.st.6657 they dont know that, they should still mention still as an ex beatle
@BobReidy I know she was such a weirdo, ruined John as well as the Beatles.
Actually George was the cute one to me.
