Eating my can of vienna sausages as I'm watching. Going to ask my wife to make some spanish rice for dinner to get the tomato paste can empty. Next stop.. the garage.
I want to thank you so much.. I’m a single mom, trying to get ready for any terrible turns of events.. and this video right here.. has made me feel refined… ❤big thanks to you…. Stay blessed…
Built my first one today. Just as simple and effective as you said. I built mine for home use if the power goes out, so I will have a way to boil water for coffee or meals. I put my stove in an empty canned chicken can and filled around the inside of the chicken can with pea gravel for extra stability, since the original stove is more tall than wide. Also gives even more insulation. A new one-quart paint can from the big box hardware store snuffs it out. Indoors I will use Everclear if I also want to heat a room while cooking. On the porch it's denatured alcohol or yellow-bottle HEET. Thanks!
Great video ,good to know how to make a simple stove without all of the hassle and expense involved that I have seen on other sites and I have used your penny stove for a demonstration to show my grandkids how to make one and how it works and what you can do with it. Grandkids are in their early twenties and they are amazed at what they can do with simple things and not relying on Amazon or the internet. Grandpa was a Eagle Scout and I was in the military so survival was pounded into my brain from the beginning. Love your videos. Keep up the good work !!👍
Fantastic! I've tried almost every type of DIY stove on the internet, and this one is the easiest, cheapest, simplest, most ingenious, longest lasting and most effective I've ever come across. Excellent Sir - well done!
Been wanting to get myself a simple camping stove but I didn't want to spend too much on one. You sure not only solved my need for a stove but also gave me something to make with my own two hands. Thank you!
I love it! Mine burns about 28 minutes on 4 ounces. Last time I had it out I made a Velveeta Skillet. Fried the burger, then cooked the pasta for 10 minutes. It ran out just as I was stirring in the cheese. Worked great and I like that it doesn’t soot up the pans like a wood fire.
Great video! Easy to understand and the stove is so simple. Forget the penny stove, to much effort but the Vienna Stove, so very easy. I will build one today. Thank you so much for sharing!
GREAT VID! You made it so simple. I'm a stove-a-holic but I still had to make this one. I took it out today and it worked out great. Lasted well over 30 min burn in real conditions w/o a wind screen. Used it to heat my coffee water as I prepared my Firebox Nano to heat the hash. I needed this like a hole in the head.....but like I said...stoveaholic!!. Thanks for all you do!! D.
Love your vids and I'm sorry I missed this one. So glad I found it because I just made one and this stove is amazing! I used a 100% cotton bandana and get a nice blue flame with denatured alcohol!
Very good video, an easy way to make version of "Fancy Feast" stove, with cheap materials. BTW - In my "corner of the world" materials like carbon fiber and similar is expensive and difficult to get, so I try alternatives materials for wick, like cotton, jeans, steel wool (works OK but degrade fast)... ending using a "capillarity wick". A "sandwich" of beverage can aluminum sheets: one flat + one with vertical "grooves" + one flat, whit the same height of the external can, this create sufficient pressure for keep two tomato paste (here cats eat Fancy Feast from plastic sachet) cans - of different sizes; together and the capillarity between the sheets vaporize alcohol well. Bonus: is easy recovery some leftover of fuel.
I had the same idea of using aluminum soda cans to make a capillary wick, but I hadn't built it yet. I was also thinking of using a skinny mini soda can (7.5 oz) in place of the tomato paste can for an all aluminum build that won't rust.
LoL I literally just did this last night and then I see this video:) I had an empty tomato paste can and a small tuna can sitting on the edge of my sink for the past year (I made a super large version using a large can of beans and a soup can and I wanted a smaller version that doesn't suck up a huge amount of alcohol to just get it started) and I finally got around to buying more felt so I decided to put the smaller stove together and didn't trust myself to trim the tomato paste can even enough for me to trust to balance a pot of boiling water, so I dug through my cupboard and decided that the Vienna sausage can was pretty close (I was looking for a one and a quarter inch extension). Yes, I verified that I should have put a saucer over the bowl of Vienna sausages when I microwaved it. Another thought I had was that if I was going to try cooking something that took longer than I planned, if I had a second stove, I could just light it up and switch over without having to wait for the first stove to cool enough to refuel. Bonus: it looks like 2 of the Vienna sausage can stoves will fit inside my larger one.
Side note: The wicking material tends to shrink a little so I trimmed the felt fabric a little long, then tried to jam as much as I could into the outer can and trimmed that just a touch long. I found 1/4" carbon fiber blanket so it was a bit of a struggle to get everything to fit but it does... and lights up quite nicely. You can run without the wick, but the flame seems to be weaker and goes out easier. Of course, paper towels work, just replace them when you need to :) If I had cotton or jute twine I'd probably use that before paper though. I used the larger stove to burn off the liner on the tomato paste can >> OUTSIDE
Wanted you to know I made this stove. Burned it to trim the wick. It fits in my Tomshoo twig burner for use as well as carry. A micro pocket rocket knock off fits in the tomato paste can. Back up to the back up. Thanks for a great bomb proof stove
That's an awesome stove! So I went out this evening to the Dollar General and I bought 3 cans Vienna sausage barbecue and three cans of tomato paste. I thought about making three of these for my grandkids for when they go camping, if they ever do go camping.
Thanks so much for sharing this information about the simplest way to build an alcohol stove. I want to be able to make my own gear for outdoor activities, but due to living with Multiple Sclerosis, my hands don't know how to carry out the thoughts of my brain, LOL! This is truly a blessing to share with your audience! Happy New Year, my friend!
U taught me something today... the last day of 2018, thank you! I'll be making one of these after eating some Vienna n making spaghetti... something I've been wanting to do lately!
Glad to see this: was thinking of doing something this way. Yeah, vienna stove sounds A LOT better than weeny stove! [insert smily face here]. AND, thank you, you answered my question about wick material. This matches what I would have thought. People use fiberglass and more exotic materials - some of which I wonder about when they are lit! The natural materials match what I have found when making things like tablets, fiber/tin stoves, buddy burners, etc., with wax. Basically if it burns or smolders... Here, I like what you're doing - if it wicks and is not toxic, it works! Thanks for no B.S.!
Tried it today and have to say that this design is simple to do, takes no time and is very effective. Mine run for 30 minutes with 100g of methanol it took 8 minutes for 1l of cold water to boil.
OMG loved your video, seems so simple and down right affordable. I look forward to making one. My pots aren't notched but I'm sure I can figure it out. Thanks again for a outstanding video.
Thanks to telework, I've been looking at some easy DIY stuff I can do with things I have at home, and I really like the way you go about making your stoves. Thanks!
Love the simplicity and cost effectiveness, I can't think about spending 20 dollars on a camp portable stove, plus now I am just itching to see what I can make using this simple concept.
Great video as always! I've made quite a few alcohol stoves over the years and actually had to use them in my house a couple of times due to power loss. I cooked a spaghetti dinner for 3 over a fancy feast stove I made. Mine was a different design by using a hole punch around the sides of the cat food can, but doesn't hold as much fuel as yours.
Awesome stoves! Vigilence is required with using alcohol, though. I carry with my Ikea Wood stove as an additional insert. The Ikea gives it more stability and more wind protection. They do go through a lot of fuel!
I just got a litre of alcohol 99.9% and i am waiting on some oven door fire blanket type material though i can not wait and i do struggle for dexterity so it looks like i will go with just an unused paint tin. And i already do have an oil lantern heater that i made from 2 cake tins and a small sheet of 1mm thick mild steel that the lantern sits inside and it heats the top cake tin up great, i had my main room at 20 degree's C last night though it is not very cold here in bonnie Scotland yet but i sure am glad i came across this channel, i enjoy watching and making what i can myself so these vids are great for everyone as i think that we are all going to be left in the dark when folks need the heating or go very cold. If you have mobility or issues with dexterity you can just use a very clean paint tin filled with fire blanket and pour the alcohol in and go from there. But be sure to use all of the safety tips shown and used right here in this video. 👍
As promised, I went out and made this stove: It works great I had a nice relaxing breakfast with coffee with bacon, and eggs. It really is very effective. The only problem is, it burns up an amazing amount of fuel. I used denatured alcohol. Breakfast took about a pint of fuel. But I love this thing, it is so small and effective. Thanks so much for posting this.
I love it! Just the right video to test what I was looking for. Thank you for a Super demonstration along with full explanations to show how and why the Vienna Stove works! I'm a Believer! Can't wait to try it!
Thank you so much for sharing your invaluable expertise. I am using candles to heat up water & it takes 20 minutes. I have a big bottle of 91% alcohol & was thinking about an alcohol stove. I was refilling the Fancy Heat cans but had one explode when I lit it & shoot the lit 🔥 wick through my tarp shelter. Just learned there's a recall & not available anymore. This is going to be easy & perfect for my needs.
Great burning stove... simple design. No push pin holes. You can actually cook whats in the can, after you empty them out,, just add a little pasta and garlic your good to go! Provecho.
This is life-changing for me. I have two expensive ($250) Silver fire rocket stoves and the smaller Scout for another $100, from years ago. I can't seem to keep a flame going. I will rig your Vienna stove to slip inside with something to prop it up enough so I can use the unit as a platform to cook on. I can make a wire handle to pull it out. I will make a second one to carry to the park when I walk my dogs and be able to relax with coffee or a snack. Thank you, sir this has got to be the best video of its kind that I ever saw and I have seen just about all of them. I have made many stoves even though I have two commercial ones. I will be making this today, the only thing: I do not eat canned food. :) thanks so much. I am subbing to your videos.
I tried this. Jeez, it's the easiest thing to make, I used blue paper hand towels from the works toilets for a wick and it works like a dream, great vid man.
I love the idea and will be making one soon. The only thing I'd like to find out is how long it takes to boil the two cups with the proper sized wick and flame. Thanks for the video!
YAHOO! Made one & it worked well now I have a mini bbq 🤠 as soon as I get the denatured ethanol I will use it daily I use sterno now I put the burner inside a large can for windbreak the burner has a grate above it I put bovine bits on the grill and yum it down. I do this most days at dusk. thanks a lot mister.my evening outdoor fondues are a real joy to me.

Neat twist on fancy feast stove. I agree also use paper towels 4 a wick. IMO Mr. Hiram made a mistake by not commercially making his idea, someone else did thou. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great video. Actually for an even simpler build I wondered why you bothered to cut the bottom off the smaller can at all and didn’t just punch holes in the bottom/sides to let the fuel out to the wick. As you say, makes it easier to build out in the field with limited tools.
Those alcohol stoves that you have that are made of aluminum pop cans and beer cans are very hard to get started. You almost have to heat the bottom of to get it boiling. I find that when I made mine, I always poured a bit of fuel on the ground under and around it to get it hot on the bottom and then I didn't have any problem getting it started. But you're Vienna alcohol stove is state of the art. I'm going to use carbon fiber when I build mine. With a sheet of carbon fiber, I can get a lot of cuts out of a 12"x12" square of carbon fiber. I find it's not that expensive, and at 12x12 sheet goes a long way and making several Vienna alcohol stoves. They hold more fuel and burn longer, and that's a plus when I'm frying bacon or spuds. Thanks for sharing this video?.
I can't wait to try this with my granddaughters, so we can cook something else besides smores, they love them, I don't. Time to start a new tradition around the fire. 😊😊
@JIUJITSU2000 Hi Skeet, I have been watching diy stove videos for quite a while, trying to get up the motivation to tackle the project. Yours is the first I feel capable of completing without tools and complicated plans. Why did the platform take so long to show this to me? Blessings to you for fine-tuning this so someone other than a hard-core hiker can do it. I've got my cans & hole punch ready! 😀😘💕💖
My hole puncher wouldn't go through the paste can. I ended up using push pins. Using cotton bals for wicking. I hope to get charcoal cloth for future. Haven't tried firing it up yet as I had packed away my 91% alcohol. Smh 😕
@@jiujitsu2000 you explain things so well. I only wish you could separate the alcohol playlist. We can get distracted watching the Coleman videos and miss this little hidden gems.
Thanks for all the information, trying suv life and couldn’t find 8oz butane for my butane stove. So I made one of these, can’t wait to use it. Nothing compares to survival stoves for me. Good information!!!
Men! Koreans turbo stove, another fancy stoves but this video is 1 of the best sample easy survival! Men I susc.,,, like !! and if I can stamp 10 starts I will do it ! Thank you !
I just recently stumbled onto your channel and am hooked on the Vienna stove. I gotta make some. Best wishes to you I really enjoyed your videos especially the fancy feast one. God Bless. Hope your family had a merry Christmas 🎄
What brand and model is the pot with the indentation in the bottom? Also, can you make a video testing the various other fuels? I'm especially interested to see how it does with diesel or lamp oil.
I'm a homeless guy I really thank and appreciate the knowledge you shared with me 🤠

I literally just did this last night and then I see this video:)
I had an empty tomato paste can and a small tuna can sitting on the edge of my sink for the past year
(I made a super large version using a large can of beans and a soup can and I wanted a smaller version that doesn't suck up a huge amount of alcohol to just get it started)
and I finally got around to buying more felt so I decided to put the smaller stove together and didn't trust myself to trim the tomato paste can even enough for me to trust to balance a pot of boiling water, so I dug through my cupboard and decided that the Vienna sausage can was pretty close (I was looking for a one and a quarter inch extension).

Estoy sorprendido por la sencillez y efectividad de esta estufa. Felicitaciones.
Harim Cook made a fancy feast stove using sand to wick and it worked great. That's a option.
Wow! I'll check that out. Thanks!
@@jiujitsu2000 ua-cam.com/video/5_0rEHQIN_U/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/hpkEFlIxHo4/v-deo.html You can also use a big tuna size can, stainless steel containers, or even a stainless steel bird bowl for food or water to use as the fancy feast stove. :) Thanks for sharing!
Old shorts, or unused sewing threat can also be used. Yellow bottle heet, denatured alcohol, plus ethanol will have more of a blue flame. www.amazon.com/Ignis-Bio-Ethanol-Fireplace-Fuel/dp/B00KZ0IL4M/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_201_lp_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MSNTYVZXK31J5M5HDGJT www.amazon.com/dp/B06XPFQVNF/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B06XPFQVNF&pd_rd_w=lzPLy&pf_rd_p=21517efd-b385-405b-a405-9a37af61b5b4&pd_rd_wg=Z9eOe&pf_rd_r=EYC4XJBFDPGZEKQJ6672&pd_rd_r=b63b38e7-1257-11e9-8dc1-13b31eb086be Here's lots of fuel here if you are interested. :) Some of the prices are a tad high, but worth it.
Great video. Super simple stove. What pot do you use that has the recess?
Neat twist on fancy feast stove. I agree also use paper towels 4 a wick.
IMO Mr. Hiram made a mistake by not commercially making his idea, someone else did thou.
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I am gonna make one of these man. Great video and great instructions!
Thanks for educating me!!
I'm happy with what you said I think I'll make me one of those and sell the other ones thanks🗽🇺🇸☕👍
Nice one. Much easier, and certainly no major tools needed. As you mentioned, a stone could do the job.
This is really cool, so simple! I am making one tonight.
That is cool. Thanks for sharing.
Love it. I'll give it a try. thank you nery much!
Smh 😕
Sounds like you did a good job it should work well. Blessings to you from arizona
@@jiujitsu2000 you explain things so well. I only wish you could separate the alcohol playlist. We can get distracted watching the Coleman videos and miss this little hidden gems.
@@jiujitsu2000 I tried the 91% alcohol, but it was too stinky. I plan to try Heet next. I did snuff it out with a bigger can.
@@jiujitsu2000 You do explain things very clearly. Blessings to you too, from Southern Tennessee!

What brand and model is the pot with the indentation in the bottom? Also, can you make a video testing the various other fuels? I'm especially interested to see how it does with diesel or lamp oil.
