One thing to note again, and I'm glad you did, is when you do BGA reflows you don' t need to use much flux. It will appear, especially when the board is hot, that it has dried up. This isn't the case - it has merely been sucked under the chip. Unlike QFN packages, BGA chips sit slightly elevated, so things can easily get under them...including corrosion. For newcomers, notice how on BGA chips Alex never presses down? That's how BGA chips work - they're slightly elevated by the density of the solder balls.
And before you reflow, do the press test. The air models are very flexible due to their thinness, and as such, the BGA chips sometime separate from the board itself. Powering the machine on while pressing down on the ram chips can help you determine which one is bad (if you're not confident in your reflow ability). Same goes for most BGA chips - look for corrosion and, if none, try the push test. Then proceed as needed.
    Nice work, Alex.

he means how its customary to shake with a very FIRM handshake, not about the handshake itself, but how your considered a weak person if you don't shake FIRMLY. I hurt someone too once so I only go for a medium firmness now. old customs are being broken all the time anyways.

apple isn't the only one doing it, and you are missing out on the benefit of the ram being soldered. latency is a thing of the past. Besides, MacBook Air boards are 150 dollars. I steer customers toward upgrading their board when they need a new one, and in 8 years I have three machines with ram issues. Onboard ram is a non issue. Onboard storage, that's an issue! ill get behind you on that fight MirceaD28

how hot do the memory chips get themselves? Ever tried this under the thermal cam?
And btw my fishing buddy who is turning 73 this year, he sometimes squeezes my hand when we shake just for giggles (I'm 36 and been body building for like 20 years)... It is incredible, feels like his hand is a vice or something, I can bet he could brake my hand just by squeezing it in a heart beat. Yeah, and he worked with his hands whole his life, and does wood carving (only with a knife) in his spare time...

    • @MBrulla

This depends entirely on the cause of the issue. If it was merely corrosion this fix may outlast the machine itself. This is the simplest thing to do when you get the RAM beeps. One the Airs it's usually because the chassis is so flexible that the balls separate from the pads. You can test this pretty easily by just pressing down on the ram chips to see if they connect again.
