    Hey Alex, I owe you a thank you. My profession is in no way related to electronics. Still I enjoy watching your videos because I find them very informative and interesting. All the hours watching your videos paid off unexpectedly last night. I bought a train set for my toddler son. I reached home and to my dismay I found that it was not working. I opened the train up and discovered that a wire and another component was disconnected. I got a brand new soldering iron and fixed it entirely thanks to you. From your videos I learnt what a solder wick was and what flux was. I learnt how to solder from watching you. I used that knowledge to fix my son's train and the joy on his face was the best part of my day. He wouldn't let me turn the train off for hours after that. Thank you so much. You touch lives in more ways than you realise.

    High fan speed most probably related to BIOS especially hardware changes or incorrect setting. Perhaps solvable by resetting the BIOS or check BIOS setting again

  • @BertoldVdb

    For sure you know, but just in case: many laptops that are always used with an external monitor and keyboard have the internal keyboard disabled in the bios. I don't know why IT people set it up like that, but it is my observation. Maybe check the keyboard in the bios itself and ask the customer.

  • @Sidicas
    @Sidicas 2 роки тому +2

    12:50 That keyboard connector is very finicky. Have to get it EXACTLY straight into the connector, if it is slightly angled then it doesn't get detected because the pins don't go to the right places. At exactly 12:50 you can see it is still a little crooked when he flips the connector closed. And its hard to lift the keyboard up and get it straight because when you lift the keyboard up it tugs the cable to make it angled. So you have to do it half blind peering in from the side with the keyboard right above the connector when you plug it in to get it straight. My Inspiron 15 inch is exactly like this too and it took me a couple of hours to get it in right.

  • @DiJAndy
    @DiJAndy 2 роки тому +1

    0:50 A slight discoloration on cheap motherboards is good indication that somewhere in this specific area the temperature of components are rapidly changing . This is normal if one side has good heatsink and the heat has way to being took. Other side doesn't have to. Copper when is heated it expands. Soldermask (green color on motherboard) do not expand. Thats why it makes discoloration of expanding and shrinking copper plate.

    I am not sure that a faulty keyboard would make the fan spin at full speed. Dell laptops are very picky with anything. You could reflash the BIOS. I had a similar issue in the past, the got fixed with BIOS reflashing. No user would want to use the laptop with fans at full speed all the time.

    High fan speed and non-working keyboard implies that the Embedded Controller is not doing its job right. Could be its power, bad controller part, in need of reflash, or (usually) just in need of reset to default values (see system specific steps for how to do that).

    • @Dwedit
      @Dwedit 2 роки тому

      The Embedded Controller on the 7559 is absolute trash. Sometimes, it will have a failure where the keyboard and *power button* completely stop working. You literally can't turn it off (holding down power for 5 seconds doesn't do anything) unless the battery cable is disconnected. Then it works again. It's happened to me at least 10 times.

    This is why I hate laptops. Fix problem and find another issue. Sent one out to a repair place. Took about 3 months. Had to order a part. Fixed it and found another issue. Had to wait for that part. Oh, and this is years and years of trying different repair places that was a bust. At least we finally found one that seems to do good work for a great price and a reasonable turn around time. Really didn't have a choice. Most stuff is only from China now or $$$$ or both. So that place we use is $250.00 + s/h both ways. If they cannot fix it. You just pay s/h. They also don't work on just boards or machines that have been opened up and put back together. Though, we are exempt for that part. Don't ask me how.

    Hi Alex, I'm from Philippines. And I just want to ask something regarding my laptop.
    My laptop model is Lenovo Ideapad S145-14IGM.
    It started on July 7. I charged my laptop, not checking if it was charging or not cause it was just the usual. After 2 hours, I started using it thinking it was fully charged but when I saw the battery icon in the screen, it was only 39%. I was wondering why it was not fully charged but ignored it anyways. So as I was using it, I decided to charge it and was shocked because my laptop did not charge at all. I plugged it to another port and at first, it charged. I glanced over it again and now it was not charging. I wondered why. It never happened to me.
    I got back where I was usually charging it and plugged it again there. The same scenario happened. Puzzled and scared, I looked at the charging pole of my laptop and saw the orange light blinking when it was supposed to be steady.
    I can still turn my laptop on and off. The only problem is that it is not charging and the orange light is blinking. I can't check if the charger or the laptop is faulty as this is the only laptop and charger in the house.
    Can you tell me the problem please? I'm so sorry if I bothered you with this question. I asked the people I know who use laptop but they don't seem to know. I also tried searching but there was no case similar to mine.

    • @shameliora
      @shameliora 2 роки тому

      I also tried charging it again yesterday and tried it in an extension cord. The orange light went steady for a few seconds and went blinking again.
      I don't have any knowledge when it comes to this. If someone replies, it'll really be a big help to me.

      Those caps aren't shorting, the board was shorted by the one bad cap. When he put the leads on one of the good caps, the current traveled across the board, through the bad cap, and closed the circuit through the leads that way. That's why, after removing the bad cap, those other caps no longer tested as shorted.
