Right. Then you would have proof whether the PCH was really the problem. If yes, you could even think of adding a small switch outside. Cheapest solution, but if the customer loves his old notebook so much he could still use it.
I've had a problem with a Lid sensor not working correctly. Luckily, disabling screen from lid was a software thing on my PC, and can be stopped by disabling the lid driver.
I reflowed a gfx chip on an HP, with no screen, heated it up in circles, reassembled bare minimum and Voila! It works 😮 common problem on DV9000. The manuf. switched the solder type from durable to a cheaper tin-type solder, as the chip heats, cools, heats, etc, the weak solder actually separates contacts (under the chip). A rework (heating up) reestablishes contact.
Since you moved your shop, the camera or desk is really shaking. Would be nicer to watch without all the shaking. Just helpful advise. Thank you for your content.
good day alex,, im your fan in you videos and i like your Job,, im a technichian too,, have you tried to fix the backlight with other Driver to make it light,, or this not worth it to do? or make customer Happy,,
May I suggest to look at the connector on the screen side That part could also be damaged If I'm seeing the damage on the connector side thats on the board - OK I stand corrected - I Oopsed.
That's called a Mickey mouse Job. You won't be able to control brightness or turn display off anymore. Lid close will also break and have no effect on screen going off anymore. .
I have a question. My Asus Rog Zephyrus started having a problem, the keyboard lights up but the computer never comes to life. It just keeps cycling the lights and turning off. So when I looked up this problem I found your videos which by the way are very helpful and informative. However when I opened up the back of the computer I found what appears to be molten solder everywhere. Only it's not anywhere near hot enough to be molten solder. I thought maybe gallium since gallium turns liquid at around 80 degrees, but I can't think of any reason to have gallium in my computer being that it would short out pretty much anything it came in contact with. As well as being very damaging to aluminum and some other metals. So long story slightly shorter I am completely stumped and would love any advice or guidance on what this stuff is and what could have burst that it would have come out of. As I assume this is more than likely the source of my problem. Any help is appreciated and thank you for your excellent videos.
Sorry for the noob question, but why does a faulty PCH chip render it a no-fix? Is it too complicated to install a new chip for it to be economical? Or is there a reason that a new chip wouldn't even work?
there's normally no pch news on the market, most of them are old ones that's sellers from ch takes from donor boards and thats make very very hard tod know if its works, and to replace it takes a lot of work, so is no economical, I think maybe that pin of the pch in failure had and bad ball soldering, maybeee but no recomended, making a reflow fix te issue for some time, no warranty of that. Or maybe in this case is ver economical to swap mb and hopefully everithing's works fine
isnt it possible to drive the backlight enable pin high to let it turn on? enable pins is normally a smaller volt above ground to tell the inverter to start, probably around 3v. and on some inverter circuit, the dim if at zero volts, it drives the backlight on constant at full bright.

I have a asus gl503vd. Shorted gpu. Is it really shorted or does it just need reballing? Bad enough to burnout the mosfet and transitor on the battery.
I rcvd a mobile which has same issue , i have removed the connector and replacing it solved the problem. You did tried everything but did not worked on connector. Maybe the issue is connecter.

Look at 7:45, under the filter you soldered.
That's what I saw, need a solder blob to make the connection
Good catch. I took out the board again and jumped the connection + new screen. Unfortunately it's still a no go.

"Long repairs" may not make business sense... but it sure makes for a great video! I loved this one!
That repair was a ten minute fix...run a wire to one of the hot wires on the LCD connector

Hi Alex see 5:50 you point it there most be a solder blob you can also see it at the bord foto that you found on internet

Did any of you say dodgy?🤣
I hate when i get a no fix computer in for repair, i feel that it defeated me! But on to the next repair.

I second the idea. Just force 3.3v onto enable pin.

This isn't for repair, it is for education. This amount of damage calls for replacing the board.
Enable with 3V3 from anywhere if it's a problem.
give a permanent signal to the pin. If it has to go to the trash, at least it still works :)

Have you tried using a known good lcd again after attempting the fix on the motherboard ?
Maybe it's an LCD fuse issue now
cam_3v powers the camera module. It's there cause it obviously must go through the screen connector because the camera is on the lid.
Is it inducter or resisror or both?
Could a thermal camera help potentially?

The question is:
it's better a "dodgy" repair or a no repair?
A switch can be attached at worst. Better than thrashing whole laptop @@NorthridgeFix

Why dont you measure backlight enable signal while the laptop is on ? just to make sure...
Bypass screen standby, it will keep on the screen while the lid is open and computer is on, but will switch off after shutdown

look in the bios. if its a gamming laptop with 2gpus it can be gpu related. turn of fgpu integrated in the cpu and see if the backlight works again

You probably have problem with lcd cable.
that is an issue with the cable or the connections.
@@infi2723 Yep, one or another. 👍 From my experience can be both of them but in most cases it will be cable because of constant bending at the fold.
