Maple Leaf Rag was the first thing I learned on piano, and comparing it now to other rags, it's very simple. I have played it so much now that I don't really enjoy it anymore. 😂 Unless someone improvises or changes the arrangement, then my interest peaks.
Thanks, it just felt fitting at the time. When people play it too fast I feel it takes away the swingy feel to it, which I feel is a missed opportunity. I have had a few people on this video saying my tempo was too fast, but at the end of the day there'll always be opposition. Thank you again for the comment!

Though I certainly can't blame them, since most people might think that I have been playing piano my whole life, but I have only been playing for 3 years. By that I consider that they might be less impressed by someone who has spent their entire life commited to learning the ins and outs of the instrument. Where they would expect someone to be a virtuoso, therefore they will less impressed.

I'm playing piano for couple years now and i just learned this piece and love ragtime. Loved your performance. Some very nice subtile additions and great improvised ending. This piece is very hard to master and do in the right rythym and i think you nailed it!

I suppose that’s the problem with playing on a piano in a second hand store, in that the piano is there for sale, has probably been sitting there for some time and hasn’t been lovingly cared for, for some time (i.e. stuck keys!). However, his playing was beautiful. Well done, for only your second time playing in public, that’s impressive.
It does, though at the time when I played on it I didn't think much of it, and the audio from the camera didn't sound that great, but the Zoom H1n came in and saved the day!

An adult sees a used boom box, tunes it to a hip hop station and turns the volume all the way up until the whole store shakes, and the manager says nothing because he is a potential customer.

Thanks! Unfortunately, the pianos at that second hand store sell quickly so I doubt the piano is still there. I also don't know Black & White Rag by memory but I can certainly learn and play it next time I revisit.
I still get pain in my wrists and shoulders. Though it might be because I play on a digital piano and I tend to press the keys down harder because I'm not receiving the powerful sound you get from an acoustic piano. If you haven't played ragtime before, then the pain is just a sign your body is adapting to a different type of piano music.
Yeah, also my hand aren’t the biggest, I can barely reach c to e if I place my hands barely on the corner of each key, so something I would never be able to while playing something. But i can reach c to d kinda easily.
Ragtime is all I play, so for me the left hand comes naturally. Though I can empathize with the jumping all over the place, it was difficult for me too at the beginning.
Not only did you do really well you played one of ragtime’s most difficult pieces. Keep up with your fantastic talent. Btw what language were you speaking with your grandmother?

Though I actually think it's quite a simple tune, looking at the melody compared to something Pineapple Rag. I totally forgot about Graceful Ghost Rag, I have to learn it! :D

@@Tarzoq if you think maple leaf rag is easy you must have more natural talent than the average person. It’s actually quite difficult. Check out Graceful Ghost Rag by William Bolcom. It’s an amazingly beautiful piece. Check it out here on UA-cam
@@brotoubrotou3164 Maple Leaf Rag was actually the first song I learned on piano, making it the tune I have known the longest. Which might explain why I think it might be easy. Though I actually think it's quite a simple tune, looking at the melody compared to something Pineapple Rag.

@@trawlins396 I started playing when I was 14 (I'm 17 now). My parents are the best, they never forced me to play an instrument, but gave me full support when I wanted play.

@@PiotrBarcz Might be. Though all you are seeing in the videos are tunes I have played hundreds of times and know fully by muscle memory. I have seen a few of your UA-cam livestreams. You were able to play for over 2 hours. I wouldn't without running out of songs to play :D
@@Tarzoq In my case I replayed some songs and I also have figured out segments and fragments of songs that are easy and I just repeat those over and over for a few minutes. I'm honestly not very happy with how I play...
