Peacherine Rag (Scott Joplin) played by me in public

- This was the second time I played in public, recorded in the same place as my "The Entertainer" video, only with a different piano. Though, after watching this afterwards I feel like I hurry through the song, I think this tempo is slightly too fast.
This video took place inside a second hand store, my grandmother had been talking with the owners which were happy to have me playing there.
Recorded on the 14th of April in 2022 (day of upload) using a Zoom H1n microphone with no effects, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and an Iphone.
That piano was on sale for 1200kr ($126,06), it had a few keys that were stuck and the plastic keys had fallen off, leaving me playing on white wood.
I always considered the chorus starting at 1:50 to be Scott Joplin's best passage.
Definitely
Ending of pineapple rag for me
My favorite is the theme passage of Bethena.
I can't imagine going about my daily life, walking past you playing this on a public piano, and just paying no attention. You are incredible. You play fantastically. I devoted so many hours to learning just 2 Scott Joplin songs, neither of which I can play nearly as well as you do. It is so much fun! And if I were to hear you playing some ragtime in public I would be SOOOO excited to sit down and hear you out. You're so good! Keep up the brilliance.
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and appreciation! Your comment truly brightened my day. It means a lot to me that my piano playing resonates with you and brings you joy.
Sadly, us Swedes tend to "stay out of people's way", as evident in this video. But believe me, they are listening, even if they aren't showing it!
It's wonderful to know that my passion for ragtime music could potentially bring delight to others in public settings. I'll definitely strive to keep up the brilliance and continue sharing my love for this genre.
Scott Joplin's music is indeed amazing, and I understand the dedication it takes to learn and play his compositions. I have played piano for about four years now. And during that time, I have played more than 1 to 2 hours every single day, just because I love the music. By the way, which Joplin tunes are you learning?
@@Tarzoq I inherited a piano about 8 years ago and quickly realized how much I liked it. I learned all the notes, major and minor chords, and then decided that I was ready to learn Maple Leaf Rag. Ha. Probably not the smartest way to learn piano, I should have started out with Mary Had a Little Lamb or something, but I practiced and practiced and I finally got it down. After that I learned Gladiolus Rag which I enjoyed even more. I haven't really learned any other songs since then, I usually just mess around with chords and scales.
@@giveyourselfahandle Nice, I guess we learned to play the same way! :D
I actually haven't learned Gladiolus Rag yet, but from reading your comment I went ahead and played it through a couple of times. While playing it all I could think was that it seemed to be a big step from Maple Leaf Rag, so I am very impressed that you managed to learn that right after Maple Leaf Rag.
Recently I got into jazz chords, stuff like b9 11 chords. I have had a lot of fun learning the patterns and I am now messing around with jazz chords in regular tunes. :D
The most impressive part is the fact that he played the whole thing with his eyes closed
Haha! 😂 I do agree, it does look like my eyes are closed.
@@Tarzoq WHAT, they werent closed?!😭
@@georgy_v493 he's just looking down so his eyelids are lowered.
Nicely played, tempo was good, in the spirit of original ragtime. You want to feel the lilt and bounce!
Joplin is in its natural element when played on an old upright piano! Really enjoyed your playing - you give it beautiful texture.
I like this rag! I only discovered it this month when I bought Scott Joplin complete works. 😎
Congratulations! Great place to start. I actually started with Maple Leaf Rag because of how popular it is, but to be honest, I have grown tired of it, because of how often it is played... Scott Joplin does however still have a huge amount of spectacular lesser known pieces, a lot of which are in Scott Joplin's Complete Works.
Wow this is awesome, keep it up man!!
Really great touch and rhythmic drive on this.
Thank you
I think this metronome tempo is the best.
Perfect tempo. This leaves space for interpretation and feelings. Well done
Buenísimo, me encantó, tocas fenomenal, sigue así. 👏🏻👏🏻😀🎹🎼🎶🎵🌼👏🏻👏🏻
Great sound and such a cheerful song thank you for recording it
I just love the sound old pianos make! They make Joplin sound soooooo good! And, btw, excellent performance! As a pianist myself, I'm very impressed! :)
I agree, that store has had some pretty good sounding pianos so far. And thank you! I have been playing piano for close to 3 years now and I'm very impressed with what I have accomplished, and many pianists have said to me that I am very good. But since I only play ragtime which none of the pianists has, I don't really have anyone to compare my progress with. Which makes me wonder if I am as good as I think I am.
@@Tarzoq you are as good as you think you are. You'll get even better, and I cant wait to see that. Joplin is hard to play at times, due to his interesting use of syncopation! Love to hear Maple Leaf if you can!
@@christopherpericolosi-king4979 Not sure if you've seen it, but just as you posted you reply I had finished uploading myself playing Maple Leaf Rag, from the same set.
@@Tarzoq no, but will be sure to go and check it out now lol. It's one of my favorites!
@Tarzoq very well played, and yes definitely a very good pianist, I love playing ragtime too, my favourite is the entertainer and maple leaf rag, but I am definitely going to learn this too.
Accurate! Well done!
Very nice playing. I think your tempo is great!
Great job keep up the great work XOXO
My heavens! Thy exquisite performance truthfully is music to my ears! Such a reasonable lad, fellas. I’m quite convinced this gentleman shall make a name for thyself and distribute more videos of his outstanding and distinguished piano-playing! Tarzoq
Thank you for your kind words!
I am glad you were able to be a part of the video, you appear to zone out to the music. :D
@@Tarzoq the magical music sent me to another world xD haha
@@lovax9977 Hahaha lovely reunion here. :) I profess I find thine words certainly agreeable. ;P
Just great, keep it up...Hope to hear more of you.....J
In the 1976 edition of Encyclopaedia Britannica Janis Joplin was mentioned but not Scott Joplin. After hearing Treemonisha for the first time I declared him my favorite composer. Years later I discovered his rags.
I play and listen to a lot of Radtime and you do a nice job because you clearly enjoy it and it is well done not firced
Can't wait to see more videos :)
Thank you! I actually have a video ready to uploaded now on Thursday. :D
Loved it. 👍
Très bien joué ! Merci car grâce à toi j'apprécie de plus en plus les ragtimes. Ça commence à devenir une passion 😊
reminds me of maple leaf rag! sounds great
It does have a few similarities, nothing strange since it's made by the same composer! :D
@@Tarzoq 1:50 reminds me of maple leaf so much it’s amazing
Stylish playing! Your little embellishments are not too lavish, but very tasteful. This was also one of my first rags... I should pick it up again... Also love the disclaimer about the keys being stuck LOL... I know the problem. Sometimes I play at my local train station and the piano has the same problem there.
I try to make my embellishments sound like Tom Brier's, embellishments are so fun to add. So cool that you play the piano at a train station, would love to see a video of that. :)
@@Tarzoq who knows, perhaps someday. :P
@@pjotrkolster I'm eagerly anticipating!
@@Tarzoq You do an excellent job of it! Love Tom's style and you can absolutely hear his influence in your playing. Keep it up!
I'm a bit late, but this is wonderful! I love this.
No worries, I appreciate your compliment.
Very cool, well played !
I appreciate it!
Amazing
I certainly am in full agreement, sir
Wow big like very nice
Wow, nice!
tempo fits the mood perfectly
I appreciate it! It just felt right in the moment.
very good tempo
That piano is actually probably one of the nicest I've heard right there! I love how soft it sounds yet it doesn't sound muddled! And give your regards to (is it your mother or grandmother?) the camera lady! I love that you did two camera shots, pretty nice to see your hands doing some magic up close! Keep it up!
It was actually surprisingly good sounding, when judging by how it looked on the keys, I expected it sound a lot worse. Since the microphone was placed on the inside of the piano you can't really hear how the piano sounded like on the outside. Which was a big difference.
That is my grandmother, she is the one who recommended me to play at this place(second hand store).
I figured more camera angles would liven up the video.
@@Tarzoq Your grandmother is now a legend :D
@@Tarzoq Seems like this store had quite a few pianos eh? Both sounded awesome!
His piano playing is quite magical isn’t it? He is such a reasonable fella.
@@lovax9977 Indeed!
Look so classic place
Bravo!
Thanks a lot!
Realmente muito bom, parabéns!
Muito obrigado!
Så fint 😊
Maybe someone dropped a drink in the keys and no one has cleaned for a long time, great piano playing
Nice!
Thank you so much, what an honor to have you here!! My jaw dropped when I saw your comment. :D
Super
Typical SJ. Superficially happy and light-hearted but with that strain of sadness intermingled. Classic tears through laughter that makes this music transcend the commonplace.
Hey I learned this song on piano in high school myself, and with no help, by reading the music.
❤️😍🥰💛🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Kul att spela piano!
Det är mycket kul att spela piano!
Who is that in the backeound
The girl? That would be my sister.
How is that blonde girl?
That piano seemed need tuning, good playing though.
