Trains at Great Malvern (22nd October 2013)

Trains at Great Malvern features London Midland and First Great Western, London Midland Class 170s work between Hereford and Birmingham New Street but on this day, London Midland Class 172, 172342 is also on Hereford to Birmingham New Street services which makes it rare for a Class 172 to be on these services during the week but Class 172s are common in this area with services on the Snow Hill Lines terminating here from Dorridge or Whitlocks End.
First Great Western run anything from Class 158s to HSTs on these routes, the Class 43 HSTs run between London Paddington to Hereford, Class 180s run between London Paddington and Great Malvern and in this footage, a Class 158 arrives with a service from Brighton to terminate here but then goes back as a Weymouth service.

First great western were granted 1 extra carriage to these services. Basically, half of a 158 is connected to a full 158 to make a 3 car 158. It's odd, I know.

Great vid mate!!! Loved it and the station was beautiful, 5:25 was that a 158 or a 159? I was confused because it was a 3 car set.
