Another great video, Hayley & Richard! Thanks so much for providing your costs - very helpful as we prepare for our future new life as wide beam boaters! :)
Aww thank you Patty, so glad you found it helpful, thank you so much for watching 😁
This is SO helpful, thank you!
You are most welcome 🙏 thank you for leaving a lovely comment 😁
As an occasional holiday cover mooring bailiff , free moorings on The Thames can be few and far between so prepare to pay between 7 to 15 pounds a night on mooring fees.
I find it causes great frustration with the vessels that visit fron CRT waters.
Ah yes very true! We didn’t mention that! Think we might have in previous video but a very good point, thank you 😁
Very Helpful - thanks
Most welcome thank you for watching 😁
I know its a year old, but really enjoyed this video. we are looking at the purchase of a wide beam and love the look of the collingwood (it was the outside that drew me) now dont get big headed ....but you have the personality to stand in front of the camera and speak without going off track to talkling too long or of subject. and i liked the space inbetween subjects with views.....i have one question if you are able/....Q do you need a waterways ompetent clicence/test ?.....steve
Hi Steve, thank you for your lovely feedback 😁 it might sound crazy but no, you don’t need any license or test or even experience. However a lot of people do choose to do a helmsman course, which does make a lot of sense 😁
Great video. I'm hoping to get a Collingwood boat next year
Thank you Jon 😁 sounds like you have exciting times to come 😁
that is one big price jump....
It is lol 😂
A very interesting video on the cost of boating on a widebeam on the River Thames, my costs are a little different than your own as I sail on the ocean with only sporadic visits to canal and rivers.
My only big cost per year is my personal insurance to cover the cost of the boats I pilot which as you know, can run into £millions, when I first started doing this it was about £15K a year now after 14 years and no claims 🤞😳it's about £1500 fully comprehensive and it's been about this price for the last 4 years. My insurance broker says it will not go any lower than this(premiums), for obvious reasons, I'm happy about this price as it's a lot lower than the £15K I was paying at the beginning!🤣🤣😳🥳
We would love to sail on the ocean must be amazing 🤩 wow that was a hefty price to start with! Not surprised you’re happy with the price now! Fabulous job to pilot different boats though 😁 Have a lovely weekend John 😁
@@WidebeamandWellingtons Thanks Hayley and Richard, next year I will hopefully have my boat completed, it's six months behind in the build process because of covid-19 in the USA. When I eventually get my hands on her I will arrange a trip to the Channel Islands if you both would like to accompany me on that trip. It would make a nice bit of content for your UA-cam channel 😀 👍
Amazing most definitely that would be absolutely awesome 🤩
@@WidebeamandWellingtons I've pencilled you in for that trip then, just counting the days my friends!
@@johningham4942 awesome 🤩
Great 👍.
What Captain /Skipper license you need?
😊 🙏
Actually you don’t need one 🙈 a lot of people choose to do their helmsman course 😁
@Widebeam and Wellingtons ....
Seriously??
So any moorhen can happily "skipper" with a 50+ ft. long and several tons heavy piece of steel along rivers??
Damn...
Just when you think, you're seen it all...
I am so glad that I am on oceans.
Thanks for sharing this information.
Stay safe 🙏 ❤️
@@ParabrisasMotocicletas I know it’s quite shocking really 😂😳
Hi, How often do you empty your composting toilet and please be honest, has it actually turned to compost or is it basically like throwing away your dog poo?
Hi 👋 we’ve got the larger size so we can go a week before emptying it. You can compost it but it takes a lot of dedication, so to be honest it is more like throwing away dog poo 💩 🙈
@@WidebeamandWellingtons Hi, Thank you very much for the honesty, we are looking at purchasing our first narrowboat. We have looked into the three main toilets and always wondered about the composting, you were the only people to give me an honest answer. Thanks
Glad to help, honesty is always the best policy in our book 😁
Positively not a criticsm of your excellent adventures ,Please ‘o’ please .
. Change you piped background music .!
Noted and taken on board thank you for watching 😊
Will £20000 get me a second hand narrow boat and a few years mooring?
Erm 🤔 if you’re happy to do a lot of work, you might do but to be honest doubt it 😬
Is that white or red diesel?
Hi Jon it’s red diesel 😁
Who did you buy your boat from
Hi 👋 we got her from West London Boat Brokerage, she’s a Collingwood with the Brokers inside design 😁
@@WidebeamandWellingtons thank you.
Hi, great video and i'm a new subscriber. We are looking into canal and river life in the future and considering whether we should do a narrow or wide beam, on a permanent mooring with weekend cruising. With regards to licensing, does this cover both mooring and cruising or do you need to buy 2 separate licences? Thasnk you
Hi Mickey thank you so much for subscribing 😁 you only need one licence to both moor and cruise, basically it’s your license to be in and on the water. There are different licenses for different areas, a canal and river trust gold license covers the most areas. Hope that helps 😁
@@WidebeamandWellingtons thank you, that's great and really helpful. So much to think about but videos and channels like yours are much appreciated 😊
@@MickeyMo76546 aww thank you, so glad we can help 😀
My God. That is so inexpensive. Here in the US, we buy class A diesel pusher motorhomes. We don't have canals, but we have massively wide roads and interstate freeways. A nice motor home is around 230K pounds and yearly living costs range from 40K to 90K in living expenses. Check out UA-cam channel Our Journey in Myles. Thanks for the great video. I may rent a canal boat to check it out. Looks fun.
Wow that is a lot of money but those motor homes are beautiful 😁 will check out the channel 👍 thank you for watching 😁
