  • After finally deciding to do something about our old rusty shipping container we though we'd film the process of putting it on blocks, de-rusting, painting, swapping out the floor and also putting a new easy access door into the side of it.
Feel free to check out my other videos for recipes, budgeting tips, DIY projects, restorations and work we do on our lifestyle block in New Zealand such as beekeeping and chickens etc.

Good old bar of soap! Nice work guys! Sometimes I feel that having a property like this is a pain in the rear, there's always something that needs doing but it's at times like this when you get to create purposeful goods that the pain in the rear end disappears. Oh and actually the door opens the right way, perfect :)

True, the "to-do" list never seems to get any shorter lol ... but always good when you finally get something ticked off the list!

Ignore the nay-sayers Sarah! Seems to be the way of the world now SOME people going out of there way to be mean and negative. Forget them, they’re just jealous and have no get up and go themselves. We can see the value in what you’re doing and certainly understand the reasons! Get growing! Xx

lol thanks! The way I figure out, they're still watching my videos and therefore supporting me 😂 (don't ask me how many tomatoes we could have bought with the cost of doing the container up though haha)

Normally people bury their shipping containers to hide the hydroponics tomatoes from law inforcement 😂
    Just joking, cool video.

haha - we've been getting funny looks wherever we go enquiring about hydroponic lighting ... and some surprised retailers when we declare we want to grow "actual tomatoes" LOL!

I can imagine, its a funny world we live in. I was curious what crops you were gonna do, I've been seeing people go crazy for hydroponic watercress over the summer months in Northland.
I think herbal house would have some good deals on quality led lighting.

@@rhyshatton9338 yeah we've got some lights now (got one each of a few different ones to experiment with!)., just figuring out how we want them now. Definitely tomatoes and be great to grow lettuce as we can't over winter where we are - got a few other things we're wanting to experiment with too (legal I promise haha)!

It seems with all the money you’re spending. It would have been better to justo a new container that has never been in sea water. Good Luck

haha - yeah but we have fun doing it ... I was joking the other day about how I didn't want to think about how many tomatoes we could have just bought instead of doing this up for hydroponics 😂

you probably wasted your time and money with the rust killer and body filler.

Oh there's certainly a lot here we could have done cheaper, differently, or omitted lol ... it's all living & learning for sure 👍
