Good question. Here in Los Ángeles both ways are approved. Perhaps because we are in earth quake land. Which is why we also use gas flexes. And in other parts of the country they use hard pipe. Now personally I like pig tails due to safety. I like to visually see that the power is off. And hardwired someone or even myself can end up flicking the switch power back on and shocking myself. So bottom line. It’s a thing of safety. Does that sort of answer your question?
Sort of. But what does earthquakes have to do with anything. I am almost certain that most manufacturers state that a permanent means of hooking up the electrical. They ship their products everywhere.
Earth quakes are a huge factor. Keep in mind there is the national code and the local code. Local code trumps. Inspectors and city codes vary. In our part of the city the local code is to be followed. And then inspector by inspector. Each has there own preference. And I agree with them that pig tails are safer. They make the call. If that makes sense.
May i.ask a question? Most manufacturers specify that the furnace be permanently wired? Why a pigtail?
