Even in my private school in Ghana I can’t even take my phone through the gate unless I am lucky enough to be granted permission and only on special occasions or events that I can, with permission 😢
In US it’s teacher by teacher basis. A few teachers have a place to put phones at the start of every class, but most let us keep them and just say “don’t use it”. My school has no accessible wifi and no service anyway so I guess phones are pretty useless for google, texting, or social media.
Most schools in england phones are banned entirely especially if its a public school Though in my school specifically they dont care much in your final year
In the Netherlands some schools have banned phones, but students can keep their phones in lockers and some students have exeptions. I am very lucky that my school just has a "dont use your phone in class unless given permission" policy. It does get annoying when the rule is broken, but I am lucky to be able to use my phone for music bue to autism and sensory issuees
In Guyana(my school), you can use your phone but not during classes. I'm in a private school so they threaten to take it away 💀 but they don't really do that. In certain grades, your phone is allowed.
In my Indian school, we werent allowed to bring phones or any electronic gadgets to school. But after the pandemic, they kind of just gave up lol since a lot of people snuck phones in. They did random bag checks and condiscated phones and stuff. But at the end they just made it that you can bring phone to school but need to report them to the staff room before class and can take it from there in the evening. That was more effective.
Im nsw (australia) they recently passed a (very annoying) thing that prohibits the use of phones and electronic devices unless a teacher specfically allows you to
In my school the uk, our phones are allowed to be in our bags switched of, but if a teacher sees it or hears it we get it taken . Example: if someone gets it taken during a monday, then a parent has to pick it up from school after school on tuesday. And if it gets taken on a friday then your parent has to pick it up on a monday after school. The only exception is on a halfterm break (week) or anything longer.
Im from the Netherlands here we where fhirst allowed to have our phones in the hallway or in the cafeterias and stuff but when we stepped in to class we had to put our phones in a box by the door we could only take our phones out if the teacher allowed us to look something up But sinds the begging of 2024 theres a rule made by the government that no phones are allowed on shool grounds but some kids need there phones to travel to school so they then said you need to Either leave youre phone home ore put it in youre locker
In my school in the Dominican Republic, primary school (1st-6th grade) aren’t Allowed to use phones, but some kids still use them; And in secondary school (7th-12th) we take them to the coordinator/ basically the principal for secondary. This is for my school specifically, a religious private school, I don’t know for public school or others, but I imagine it’s the same as primary school?
In Cameroon, phones are also banned in schools. If they catch you using a phone, the teacher/supervisor can confiscate it and summon your parents to retrieve it.
In Bhutan, where I studied all my life, phones are banned until for some hours during weekends. But i see a lot of changes happening now. The pandemic really has encouraged students to use phones for classes.
In Australia it's banned when your inside the school gates. First violation is a warning, second is after school detention and third is suspension. Crazy that they're suspending people for checking their notifications thrice.

we cant use our phones at all during the school day in australia, when the first bell goes your phone needs to go in your locker and leave it there until the day ends
When I went to secondary school (England) phones were entirely banned. When I went to college (16-18 yrs old) phones were only allowed outside of class, or when a teacher said you could use it for the lesson. Now that I’m in university, phones are allowed for every single lecture, but not in seminars, as using your phone in seminars is seen as rude.
I am German and we do not have a phone zone. If you do use your phone, however, it will be marked in the class register and you don’t want many entries in there.
My school in Australia doesn't let you go on your phone at all, if you completely walk out the gate onto the sidewalk to get your phone out you still get a suspension warning or a full on suspension because you aren't far away enough 💀
I’m in a public school in the USA and we do have a no phones during class but it’s not enforced that much and many classes ask that you use your phone for activities and such. Even in classes that do enforce it students are still on their phones most of the time lol
The Alaska Native Elders that serve on the school board for our school district have made a district wide rule to ban phones in school (since before 2020). Students turn in their phones in the office before class and pick them up after school.
In my school unless the teacher specifically said you can or it you have a note saying you need it you can’t use it in class but in the halls is free reign
In my private high school in Brazil you can use phones out of classes. But during lessons they usually had two ways to deal with phones: There was a box in the teachers desk, where you were obligated to put your phone in there. It was more of a school policy bc most of the teachers didn't really like having that box full of phones that could cost their entire house (it was a big class and some had iPhones). The other way is just the teacher saying please put your phone away if you want to pay attention. If you don't put it away, be quiet and don't come begging for good grades at the end of the year :)
In Bahrain girls schools, we’re not allowed to bring our phones at all unless we’re going on a field trip or on the days of the finals or when we have to do a presentation or something and if they caught you with your phone, they are going to take it for at least four days but in the boys schools they mostly allow phones but sometimes like the bad teachers take them and they will call your parents to come and take the phone, but it’s way less strict
Most schools allow it, but the college I went to had a similar rule of no phones in classrooms and certain areas on campus. When I started there it was tough to adjust, but after some time honestly those rules felt a lot more freeing than I expected and I enjoyed not being on my phone all the time
in my school we could use phones in the lunchroom or if a teacher permitted it. we aren’t allowed to take photos or videos, and we couldn’t have them out in the hallways but that was loosely enforced
In my school in america, teachers and schools have given up. In class, at least half the class is on their phone playing games DURING lessons. Its pretty bad, as it holds the class back because students are not paying attention.
In the US, they try to tell us to keep our phones in our lockers but with shooting fears no one actually puts it in their locker. (If there is a situation, you want to text/call loved ones) They will be confiscated if they're a distraction though.
in India, I've been to 5 schools, till my higher secondary, we could never use a mobile in the school premises. But were allowed to carry one if we're going to school camping or any other camping events. The funny part is my college don't allow us to use mobile phone in the classroom. We have to submit our mobile phones to the department office, before we enter the classroom
We weren’t allowed to use our phones until we were in college and even then, some classes were asking us to put our phones away..it’s actually more common in most countries
In Poland, it depends on what school are we talking about, in primary school (8 years when you finish 7 years old), the moment you take out your phone, they will take it or yell at you, but when you finish primary school and go to one of the three choices of schools, they mostly don't care, as long as you don't use them in the classroom you are fine.
I'm also german and at my school one usually isn't allowed to use ones phone either. Only the two highest classes have a room where they can use their phones. Lots of people use a tablet in class though instead of writing into books. It's allowed if one doesn't use it for private things during class.
In my old high school the teacher would tell us to get our phones out to take a photo of the board so she can erase it without waiting for all of us to type everything down That was like 10 years ago in Australia tho. They’d also let us listen to music while we work. It was a selective school as well so it’s really not about the phones, it’s about whether the students are motivated to learn
In New Zealand there is a countrywide ban on phones in schools. However, there are some exceptions that have been made, I am one of those exceptions as I am completely blind and I use my phone for work in school, such as reading scripts in drama, and music, we are allowed to use phones with teacher permission, like taking photos of a whiteboard, things like that. But generally we’re not allowed to use them.
In my egyptian private school, they collect the phones from us at the beginning of the day, and give them back at the end of the day, so basically no phones r allowed during school day.
In my school in the Philippines we are allowed to use our phones in class because our school no longer uses books but we use our phone instead, all our homework announcement and so on is there we can even text our teachers there. We just need to download an app in our phones that is called canva, but when the teacher didn't say take out for gadgets we are not allowed to use it also the Wi-Fi we use is free and the passcode is just our school id
During my last year at university, as a part of a project I was controlling to GoPros in our universities TV studio. I was the only person in the room allowed to use their phones, everyone else had theirs in a box outside.
In australia, u may get detention for using a phone in class, but its easy to not get caught, so plenty of people do it. However, we use a personal laptop for almost all of our classes, so it is wayyy easier to use social media on the browser versions and switch tabs when the teacher comes around.

I graduated in 2016 but My school had a policy that you could only use your phone during lunch (unless you had a medical condition like diabetes where some people use a cgm (device that goes in your arm and checks your sugar levels) and their phone as a receiver for that device.

My school in Germany used to have a phone zone but now they've removed that and they collect our phones every single morning and we don't get it back until the end of the day
In my school in France we are not allowed to even have a phone on us once inside of the building, we have to place it in a box corresponding to our class which gets locked down in a locker once class starts so we all own fake phones that we give them to keep ours because this rule also applies during lunch break for example and we just need a break sometimes
I go to a private school in Germany and no teacher bothers with enforcing the no-smartphone rule. As long as you don't blare out loud music and manage to hide your phone semi-well, you can spend your entire school day playing games

It's actually not a common thing. I am german and i have never seen a damn "phone zone"
Little Rascal..😊
Our school is quite weird 😂@@ranboosredmm6852
For us in UAE, in public schools it’s not allowed what so ever to have phones but a few private schools allow them and not in class only in break time and if you are caught with a phone in public schools it’s a big deal and the whole school would know about it
Uk got new rule no phones in school anytime unless u can do it in secret
I swear they allow brick phones? But yeah, it's well known that everyone carries a phone. If not in sight, it basically doesn't exist for our teachers 😂
In my school in Sweden (4th and 5th grade) we need to put our phones in a “phone locker” that only our teachers has the code to. And at the end of the school day we get our phone back. But in 1-3rd grade if we had phones they are only allowed outside of school which means that we couldn’t use our phones on the school yard or even on the buss.
At my school in America they say no phones at all and if they even see the phone, like if it's in your pocket, they were take it and tell you to bring it to the front office, I once got my phone taken because an unknown caller called me.
my schools like that with the middle schoolers, seriously they arent even allowed to use it to call parents if there is an issue. (which depending on what kind of situation it is I find ridiculous)
In my school (Suburbs of Chicago) phone usage is a very big issue and although the school tries to combat it they don’t do a very good job
In Oman it’s not allowed to bring any phones we always just play around or chat no phones allowed and if you bring the phone then you’re spelled😂😂😂
Even in my private school in Ghana I can’t even take my phone through the gate unless I am lucky enough to be granted permission and only on special occasions or events that I can, with permission 😢
In india we are allowed to bring our phones but we have to keep it in an office locker.
In US it’s teacher by teacher basis. A few teachers have a place to put phones at the start of every class, but most let us keep them and just say “don’t use it”. My school has no accessible wifi and no service anyway so I guess phones are pretty useless for google, texting, or social media.
Most schools in england phones are banned entirely especially if its a public school
Though in my school specifically they dont care much in your final year
In the Netherlands some schools have banned phones, but students can keep their phones in lockers and some students have exeptions. I am very lucky that my school just has a "dont use your phone in class unless given permission" policy. It does get annoying when the rule is broken, but I am lucky to be able to use my phone for music bue to autism and sensory issuees
It’s crazy that in the US students nit ony use thrir phone in class but also record videos in class and post them online
In Guyana(my school), you can use your phone but not during classes.
I'm in a private school so they threaten to take it away 💀 but they don't really do that. In certain grades, your phone is allowed.
In hungary im still in middle school but your phone can't ring in class or anything but on breaks and out of classes you can .
In my province in Canada we can use our phones at lunch or we can use’ em for studying/music.
In the Caribbean, for me, which is St. Martin, we aren't allowed to use phones until high school
Im from the Netherlands here we where fhirst allowed to have our phones in the hallway or in the cafeterias and stuff but when we stepped in to class we had to put our phones in a box by the door we could only take our phones out if the teacher allowed us to look something up
But sinds the begging of 2024 theres a rule made by the government that no phones are allowed on shool grounds but some kids need there phones to travel to school so they then said you need to Either leave youre phone home ore put it in youre locker
In my school in Korea phones are banned during classes (high school) but in elementary it’s just banned
Bottom of the bag. All times. Only exception is if we get sent home early e.g. snow day.
I live in trinidad and in elematry school you have to bring it to the office and after school you can use it,but in highschool you can use it during lunch time and reses
I’m my country you’re allowed to use your phone until you get caught… or until you decide to put it away because you’re ignoring the teacher
In my Brazilian school, we can use our phones. But, only when the teachers alow us to, or on the breaks in between classes. :)
we cant use our phones at all during the school day in australia, when the first bell goes your phone needs to go in your locker and leave it there until the day ends
Just to specify: New South Wales
I’m in a public school in the USA and we do have a no phones during class but it’s not enforced that much and many classes ask that you use your phone for activities and such. Even in classes that do enforce it students are still on their phones most of the time lol
The Alaska Native Elders that serve on the school board for our school district have made a district wide rule to ban phones in school (since before 2020). Students turn in their phones in the office before class and pick them up after school.
My school in cyprus just had phones banned completely ur not even allowed to have them in ur bag just handed into the office
In my school unless the teacher specifically said you can or it you have a note saying you need it you can’t use it in class but in the halls is free reign
In my private high school in Brazil you can use phones out of classes. But during lessons they usually had two ways to deal with phones:
There was a box in the teachers desk, where you were obligated to put your phone in there.
When I started there it was tough to adjust, but after some time honestly those rules felt a lot more freeing than I expected and I enjoyed not being on my phone all the time
Yall are kinda lucky coz in Romania at the school that I learn at we have our phones locked up in a locker like is some disease.... 💀💀
in my school we could use phones in the lunchroom or if a teacher permitted it. we aren’t allowed to take photos or videos, and we couldn’t have them out in the hallways but that was loosely enforced
In my school in america, teachers and schools have given up. In class, at least half the class is on their phone playing games DURING lessons. Its pretty bad, as it holds the class back because students are not paying attention.
In Turkey, phones in boxes and boxes go in some kind of a closet which is locked or that box is stored in some kind of room away from the classrooms
In my school in london, we are told " if we see it , we take it "
In the uk, it really depends on your school, but most schools, when you reach yr11 they allow you to use your phones for revision.
in my school we don’t have any restrictions for phones except for not using them while we’re in lesson
I’m from New Zealand and recently, our government banned phones for all primary and secondary schools.
We weren’t allowed to use our phones until we were in college and even then, some classes were asking us to put our phones away..it’s actually more common in most countries
Boarding school in ghana seems really fun unlike other boarding schools🤩
In my school in Ireland 3rd years and up can use phones during lunch
In Poland, it depends on what school are we talking about, in primary school (8 years when you finish 7 years old), the moment you take out your phone, they will take it or yell at you, but when you finish primary school and go to one of the three choices of schools, they mostly don't care, as long as you don't use them in the classroom you are fine.
I'm also german and at my school one usually isn't allowed to use ones phone either. Only the two highest classes have a room where they can use their phones.
Lots of people use a tablet in class though instead of writing into books. It's allowed if one doesn't use it for private things during class.
In my school the only time we can use our phones is when we are at HOME 😊
In my old high school the teacher would tell us to get our phones out to take a photo of the board so she can erase it without waiting for all of us to type everything down
That was like 10 years ago in Australia tho.
In Spain , at least in the city that I live, not only are phones banned but they are also illegal and we have no phone zones or anything like that
In America (at least at my school) phones are completely banned inside school and you have to use the office phone to make any calls
In australia, u may get detention for using a phone in class, but its easy to not get caught, so plenty of people do it. However, we use a personal laptop for almost all of our classes, so it is wayyy easier to use social media on the browser versions and switch tabs when the teacher comes around.
In Denmark .every morning everyone gives there phone to the teacher🥲 then they lock the phone into cabinet with lock on😭. then we get it after school
Some schools in Brazil, specifically in the south state, accepts a law that bans phones on schools
The high school I go to currently have a no phones in classroom, only during recess (with some exceptions)
But a school I went to earlier (9th grade) you just COULD NOT have your phone on you, even during recess
I graduated in 2016 but My school had a policy that you could only use your phone during lunch (unless you had a medical condition like diabetes where some people use a cgm (device that goes in your arm and checks your sugar levels) and their phone as a receiver for that device.
In my school in Ireland, we are to keep our phones switched off in our lockers from the first to last bell (of course, people break this rule all the time)
My school in Germany used to have a phone zone but now they've removed that and they collect our phones every single morning and we don't get it back until the end of the day
In my school in France we are not allowed to even have a phone on us once inside of the building, we have to place it in a box corresponding to our class which gets locked down in a locker once class starts so we all own fake phones that we give them to keep ours because this rule also applies during lunch break for example and we just need a break sometimes
In Greece by the next year phones are strictly banned in school (how funny when we don't even have right accomodations)
I'm from German as well we even used phones in classes with permission
I go to a private school in Germany and no teacher bothers with enforcing the no-smartphone rule. As long as you don't blare out loud music and manage to hide your phone semi-well, you can spend your entire school day playing games
in our school we werent allowed to use our phones inside the building, only outside (where we generally have to go during the break unless we eat school lunch) but it's not that rigorously enforced
My school in the U.S. "banned" phones, but many teachers use them as tools everyday, so it won't really hold up.
