2013 - Schoolhouse at Keppochhill Rd. Glasgow, Scotland

The last remnants of the schoolhouse at Keppochhill Rd. where John Fairley (born 1906) lived, from about 1908 to 1919, with his aunt Maggie Davidson Gordon and his uncle George Gordon, who was the onsite school janitor.

I lived in 462 but left in 1963 aged 6 to live in Linwood. My dad worked in the auld hoose pub.

Hi John, Thanks for posting this video, l attended this school from 1960 until 1964, at that time the janitor was a Mr. Bannerman. The video sure brought back a lot of memories including roller skating down that hill onto Keppochhill Road in the summers, and sledding down it in the winters. I left Glasgow in 1977 and emigrated to Michigan, U.S.A.. Been here ever since. Thanks again.

Edward Fox thank you. I was very excited to find a few pieces of the schoolhouse. That road leading down to Keppochhill Rd was quite steep and must have been fun to skate and sled down.

Hi again John, Yeah it was fun and very dangerous, you see when l say roller skate let me explain, no one had much money back in those days, it was the late 50s and the people of the U.K. were still feeling the after effects of WW2, there was still rationing of certain goods. Anyhow, we would usually have at least one friend who maybe had a pair of skates but one would be broken. We would take the good skate and put a piece of wood across the flat part of the skate, then we could sit on the piece of wood and head off done the hill. Now Keppochhill Road was a very busy road back then, in addition to the regular car traffic, we had streetcars, [we called them tram cars] and buses, and you probably didn't know we also had a brewery and 7 whisky distilleries, and heavy trucks hauling steam locomotives down to the docks for shipment overseas. The only way to stop the roller skate was to roll off the thing before the bottom of the hill. I personally know of 3 different kids who were run over by some of these vehicles. About a year ago while o was on Facebook, a woman from Glasgow was doing pencil drawings of different scenes around the city. I asked her if she could do the front of the school, from one of the many photos that were on Facebook, we agreed on a price including shipping here to the U.S., l am now looking to find a frame for it. I went to this school from 1963 to 66 i lived in 462 Keppochill road bottom house next to the Auld House pub , far too young in them days the school janitor was a man called John Bannerman my late Dad knew him well.

Hi Robert, you must have name the Kelly's who lived above the Auld Hoose? l was born and raised in number 419, Next to what used to be Aitkens Brewery, went to Kipp School from 1960 until 1964, your last name is ringing a bell, my pals Phil and Kenny Greig lived in the next close to you, above Capaldi's Café, and another pal lived at the top of Scone St, Joe Campbell, sadly Joe passed away almost 2 years ago. @@edwardfox847 i remember you you have other brother and a sister you had red hair , i remember the Kellys the Taggarts Peter Capaldi what ever happened to him . we left Springburn to live in Easterhouse and i moved to Manchester in 1974 and i,am still here
