It's strange that Capcom was so hesitant to do a Code Veronica remake because of all the classic RE games that's the one that probably needs one the most. I like Code Veronica but there's A LOT wrong with it.
I think they will eventually it’s been 13 years since they released the HD Version for 360 and ps3 but I feel like they are prioritising on what will sell.
"needing a remake" isn't their criteria to remake a game. RE4 didn't need one and they did anyway because they knew it would sell very well. Code Veronica is not a popular entry, so it would be a very poor remake with very little effort put into it just like they did with RE3.
If it was only about money then they would have remade RE 4 5 or 6 first because those are the highest selling RE games not including 2 remake at this point. RE3 make has sold like 8 million copies compared to the originals 3.5, CV would sell great simply because gaming is infinitely more popular and its Resident Evil.
It's likely multiple things. First, CV isn't a numbered entry, which has caused confusion in the past and would likely cause more confusion if remade. Second, its lukewarm reception- people don't like CV like 2 and 4, or even 3, it was lauded when it came out among the SEGA crowd but comparing its shoddy ports to the 3 main line games that preceeded it doesn't give a favorable result. The last is that many people misunderstand Alfred's crossdressing as Alexia to be "transphobic", which, first of all it's Japanese why would this surprise you- and second of all that's clearly not what the team was going for in the first place. There's a lot working against it.
@@aortaplatinum Yeah I get that. I think the amount of people that are crying out for a CV remake would at least have Capcom seriously consider this though and if the same team that did the remakes of RE2 and 4 make it then there's really not much to worry about as far as the games quality. As for the Alfred thing I think that can be solved by treating that as less of a shock value moment and more like a Fight Club style twist, maybe even have moments earlier in the game hinting at the fact that Alfred is Alexia that would be great for replays. I guess they'd have to get rid of Claire's line calling Alfred a "cross dressing freak!" even though I find it hilarious especially for the time.
Good things: 1. The knife has been greatly improved 2. The camera work style from Dino Crisis 1 was used and improved upon here. Bad things: 1. How they presented the second half of the game was just baaad, its just basically Chris redoing what Claire went through. 2. The gore has been drastically dumbed down , sure there are blood splattering, but I believe there are no head popping, head decapitating or torsos being blown out
I do like how the game uses something similar to zapping where taking stuff/ not taking stuff as claire does effect chris like getting the lighter and the magnum
@@joshuanelson6795 tbh i feel it should have been done like re2 with a claire campain and a chris campain, like you have no choice but to start claires story and you beat it, encountering chris in it. Then you play chris story and you see where he was and what he was doing. Would have been perfect if claires final boss was monster steve for that emotional part (tho a full fight instead of a chase scene) and chris story would carry on longer but end with the alexia fight
RE3 original did better improvements: - free walk stairs. - gun powder. - RNG. - dodge mechanics. - Time live action. P.S. : the knife in CV is too OP.
God how salty I am they're just, at this point, ignoring Code Veronica's existence. In how it's got the short end with ports, and no consideration for remaking. When this game, next to the OG RE1, is an RE game that stands most to benefit from the full remake treatment! Cuz this game, its enemies, characters, voice acting, locations, and unique ideas have SOOO much potential!! All the pieces are present in this game for a top-tier Resident Evil experience, it just needs that retweaking to help it all reach its fullest potential. (and not just cuz I wanna see my fav character Claire star in another modern RE game >.>)
Sentiments echoed by a large majority of the fanbase. RE4 is fine as is, it doesn't need a remake and there's very little they could change or add to make it relevant. Code Veronica is in desperate need of an overhaul because of how fundamentally flawed it is. It could benefit from being streamlined the way the other two games were, eliminating a large bulk of the unnecessary backtracking as a lot of it felt superfluous. This seems to be an inherent issue with the industry (as well as Hollywood) as they constantly focus on remaking already successful and well received games when the bad ones could use the update more to make them more appealing and potentially improve their status among fans.
We just don’t really need an RE4 remake, at least not yet. The VR version definitely can fill that void and CV needs a lot more love. I was underwhelmed by the original and would love a remake.
Wesker's voice-actor did a narration of the text of Wesker's Report 2 you can find online. It expands so much on Wesker and the RE setting as a whole that I recommend it as required reading for anyone interested in the early RE lore.
CVX is the only RE that I couldn't finish, because it basically softlocked me when changing characters without announcing. I got basically all items on Claire's inventory and then it changed. They sharing item box without warning you sucks.
As somebody who loves CV, I have to admit that the character swapping points are the game's greatest flaws for sure. While this issue is greatly mitigated on repeat playthroughs, it really can sour one's initial experience of the product.
That part really soured the game for me as well. I've been replaying it the past few days. When I was playing as Chris I had no way of saving that guy from the worm creature because I quite simply didn't have enough ammo to kill it. So I was unable to get the lighter as Chris. Had I known I had to dump all the weapons in the item locker I'd obviously have done it. But with all that being said I do still like the game.
It’s a story, the characters going to change at some point. Even in the original re 2 and 3 characters change. As Claire you play as the lil girl, as Leon you play as Ada for a bit of time. It’s the unique story the originals bring that keeps it interesting. I’m curious to what wesker meant when he said he could bring Steve back to life with the sample inside of him.
@@TheWalt19 We get that and in theory it works well and has been done well in earlier RE games. I think it's the item sharing and item boxes that the previous people are complaining about.
This maybe the weirdest, hardest, and longest game in the series, but tbh it's a Survival Horror Franchise, it's suppose to test you to see well you're good at the game even replaying it over and over time again
@Good Hunter CV is 10x better then 0. Way better story, better areas, and no tedious inventory management. I don’t hate 0 but it is the weakest of the classic games imo. The whole thing really peaks after the train section.
0 has some of the weakest, most forgettable bosses in the entire series. The Nosferatu in CV alone is infinitely better than any of the bosses in 0 in my opinion. Also, both games use tank controls, so I don’t see how one is better than the other in that regard. I also found Rockfort Island to be a much more interesting environment to explore, as the Umbrella Training Facility mostly felt like a retread of the Spencer Mansion.
My only Major complaint about this game is the fact that it DOESN'T TELL YOU that Chris and Clare will share items. if you knew this from the start then it would be much easier. ON multiple play through Knowning this bit fact this game is much easier than people give it credit for.
I played this game on the Dreamcast way back in the day and absolutely loved it, i like the exploration of CV and never felt like a chore to me. I still rate it my second favorite resident evil only behind the REmake... This is pure old school survival horror. I also felt the story of CV was much better than an average resident evil game(most are cheesy).
this game is cheesy too. Still for me is the last true Resident Evil (with RE1 remake exception), everything else after from RE0, 4 to Village is just awful and overexagerated in every way, even the last RE 2 and 3 remakes. and Re3 remake was the worst of all of them for me.
For some reason I really like the game even though I totally understand its problems. I'm kinda glad you weren't shitting so much on Steve like 90% of global population does lol I think he has a really traumatic backstory and actual changes to his character during the game, like, most RE games the protagonists barely change their atitudes during their games, Steve was pretty much the first to have full development which I appreciate. The only thing that I can say to help is that half of the backtracking can be avoided in later playthroughs if you plan exactly were to go, for exemple instead of going back to the prison to give the hemostatic to Rodrigo and then coming back again to use the indigo plate, you can do both at once and aliviate that. There are some door transitions that are veeeryyy slow and has a heart beating, in that moment the controle vibrates to give tension, so without that feature it becomes super boring, since the game use more resources, naturally the loading times had to be longer, BUT there is a code for Dolphin that makes it possible to skip door transitions, it really improves the passing as expected.
Yeah it's one of those games where I acknowledge all the flaws that people mention. However the strengths are soo good that I'm willing to forgive them. The game has a unique vibe that's different from the trilogy, that I can't quite describe. Alexia's private residence has a really creepy feel, the game isn't focusing about the T-virus soo much and more about the weird Ashford twins and I think makes this game one of the scariest ones. Yet, the game is still cheesy and light hearted. I think that's RE's core identity. Plus I love the big ambitious scale of this game, fighting Tyrant on a flying plane, how cool is that! And the soundtrack is the best in the series as well, has my favourite save room music.
Steve is one of my favorites because he's much deeper of a character than most. So nice to see someone mentioning it. However Code Veronica issues aren't issues. Every game had issues. 3 was short and barely different than 2 cosmetically. 1 was bad voice acting and terrible graphics which unlike the rest, haven't aged well. 2 no puzzles, easier than the rest. Mr X got annoying. All games have issues. Code Veronica isn't held back cause it is kinda tedious. It's the deepest story, most challenging puzzles and survival. Some of the best locations.
That's one thing I hate whenever I watch CV reviews, unnecessary Steve bashing. I honestly don't know what is problem with him? I only agree his voice acting is problematic other than he acts at his age. The same guys somehow gave free pass Ashley and Sheva. I don't know how many times I died because of Ashley or how annoying shauting "LEON HELP!" is. And I don't wanna start with how horrible Sheva's AI is. It was bane of my existence.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject RE3 is longer than RE2. RE2 just feels longer because it has two playable characters and four playable scenarios, but the actual length of each campaign is shorter than RE3's campaign.
I liked to make fun of Steve when playing but I like his character. He made me laugh a lot and he kind of gave me an annoying little brother vibe which was interesting because I haven’t seen many main(ish) male characters with that sort of personality.
In the PS1 Resident Evil games, if you shoot a zombie until it falls, bullets hit the zombie behind it. In this shitty game, bullets just disappear when this happens, wasting ammo. On the PS1, pressing L1 switches to the nearest enemy. After killing one, it auto-aims to the next closest. In this crap, the auto-aim sometimes targets the farthest enemy, leading to being caught by closer enemies due to bad mechanics. How did they manage to make the Dreamcast and PS2 versions have worse mechanics than the PS1 classics? It's beyond comprehension.
16:55 Dino Crisis 2 did that first and better in the ps1 Regina has dual sub machinegun weapons that will individually target and track enemies with a lot more range and precision than the dual handguns of cvx That games overall design also makes better use of them, being more action focused and actually having situations where the dual targetting really comes in hand. I honestly cant recall any time in CVX where the dual handguns were actively useful outside of being a fun gimmick (specially since they have super limited ammo and you never pick up more) Hell, something else people praise CVX for are its 3d areas and dynamic camera anglea... which dino crisis 1 has done already on the ps1... and again, did arguably better, by actively using its camera angles to simulate something watching or following you through windows and overall bulding tension, which is something I honestly dont remember CVX doing outside 9ne or two rooms.
@@enrkm85 dude They both came out the same year That literally means they had been in dev at the same time (I was thinking of cvx release date) I may have been wrong about it coming out first, but it still did ots own dual aiming gun independant of code V and did ot better
@@CelicAWD Nice. For me it’s REmake,CVX,RE3,RE4, and-controversial I know-RE2R. Even though I love OG RE2 and it does a million things better, I love the action and boss battles in the remake.
too bad capcom likes to halfass its RE entries and launch their games at about 70% of the content. re7, re2make, re3make, re8. all like 70% content, lol. but they want full price, mmk.
Resident Evil 2 remake was not 70 percent content. It improved and added a lot of content. People love ignoring everything. Especially with 3 remake. People act like it's shorter than Og cause it didn't have the clock tower lol. I would love a remake as well. Screw 4. It's not needed as much. I can wait. Plus I'm playing VR version. I do want old school to come back more. I don't want every game to be a shooter. I don't play RE for shooting. I play it for exploration, survival horror, puzzles. But I do love the 2 and 3 remake a lot. So just give me more Code Veronica
No, leave it alone. For the love of God, leave it alone. Remake RE4 and sell that to the dummies, but Code Veronica is fine the way it is. They'll gut most of the environments and turn it into a streamlined series of set-pieces like they did with RE3.
Imo, Code Veronica is too long and too bland to replay. I got exhausted when I finish the game for the first time. Unlike any other RE games, I can't find the point to replay.
It's definitely the hardest out of the tank control/fixed camera angle era of the RE games. The character change half way through did screw people over but you can adapt by not killing everything and harvest ammo in the prison segment with Chris. You could just restart and you'll be better equipped when the story changes characters.
It's actually pretty easy on future playthroughs once you become familiar with everything you learn how OP the knife is. I consider REmake and RE0 to be harder games.
@@the757general2 True but when you know what's coming it's not too hard but the plane tyrant and the purple hunters can give me fits when I'm going for the A rank. Give that a try, talk about nerve wrecking. I was never any good with the knife tbh. I always found myself getting grabbed when trying to knife multiple zombies. I'm aware of going for the legs but I get bit too much and I start burning through herbs. I just stick to the tried and true RE formula of dodging and only downing enemies in corridors that I know I'll have to return to multiple times.
@@MrKrewie lol, yep. Don't entirely remember my own first playthrough -- very long time ago -- but distinctly remember my friend/neighbor asking me to help him with that Tyrant boss fight, and he simply did not have enough ammo to get it done. It was actually impossible, and we _had_ to restart the game. Don't know if it's impossible to knife him as it is with Alexia, but if it was possible, we weren't that good. He didn't have squat for healing, either. Item management in CV is more paramount than probably any other RE game.
I think RE0 is the most difficult of the classic/vintage RE games, and also the most tedious, because of the way they ditched the item boxes. They should have kept the item boxes _and_ allowed you to drop items when needed. Zero is by far my least-favorite.
Veronica is the only game in the series that gives the same horror feel as the first. A negative is that it can be difficult if you don't manage your herbs & ammo. And outside of RE6 it's easily one of the longest titles.
I feel like the devs knew this which is why they made the knife very strong but I don't remember if they pointed this out because if they didn't they should have. I only realized how strong the knife was doing the battle mode when I beat the game and some of the characters made you just use the knife and there you realized you could kill hunters without taking a hit sometimes using the knife.
@@MartyMacFry no the knife was never pointed out. In fact, it can be missed altogether. I personally never noticed any damage difference, and only used it against a few zombies in certain spots to save ammo. The only knife related thing I personally ever noticed/used was the animation skip in RE1
@@daegnaxqelil2733 depends on what you mean. The story is short, I agree 100%. But the damn backtracking.... I guarantee that if you haven't played in awhile you'll miss something that easily ate up 15-20 min. Definitely not new player friendly
I want to say that you're wrong about the "convoluted" way about the key items. Makes the puzzles feel larger. Backtracking is always fun, it's half the point in metroidvanias.
@@hop-skipthechewtoys1836 I know, it meant you were paying attention. You saw a key hole and when you eventually find the key you should know where it goes.
@@sandmaker47 compare that to something like RE5 where backtracking wasn't even a concept---I *adore* games that reward backtracking with new weapons or ammo/health
Backtracking is only fun if the reward compensates for the time but it can be tedious and disappointing if the game is not well designed which is what his point was
@@jamalwalker04 I dont think that's the case at all, he didn't mention specifically the reward for backtracking to the very first area of the game (which is a pair of submachine guns for Chris). I think the video was entertaining, but not very well informed
I went back and played this on PS2 and I really don't like how it starts out. Even the controls are wonky. And that Steve's voice... Hoo boy. I dont care what people think of Nemesis, it was way more concise and had a proper stalker enemy that created actual anxiety. code veronica generated boredom and frustration.
@EGR18 The difference is that the villains of CV actually felt like real characters despite how over the top and anime-esque they are. The video of Alfred and Alexia torturing bugs as children and smiling is a million times more chilling and creepy than anything the loser antagonists of 4-6 have going on, and that was accomplished in a very subtle and simple way. The story even takes the time to humanize them as characters and gives us a genuinely tragic moment when Alfred dies at Alexia's feet and she sadly cradles his body in her lap. The twisted and parasitic sibling relationship that Alfred and Alexia have also contrasts nicely with the more healthy and caring relationship that Chris and Claire have, adding another layer of depth to the whole story. The antagonists of RE4 are just the worst, comic book villains with no depth or humanity or realism whatsoever.
I watched your video all the way to the end. I respect your valid criticisms, but it is one of my favorites. My issues with this game are the lack of decapitation's, ps1 re2 audio with gun sounds(even re3 sounds upgraded) and the long load times. But you got to admit the soundtrack is amazing.
I’ve been saying that Code: Veronica was kinda sucky for decades now. Resident Evil’s gameplay loop of “find key or crest, place in lock” was starting to get stale by that point. The game just didn’t do anything to add to the formula. For reasons that are completely unfathomable to me, people just love to relentlessly dickride a mediocre at best game.
@KwonJasperet No, I didn't imply it at all, you moron. If I did imply it, point out where. You have the reading comprehension of a knat. It doesn't matter if RE6 is one of the worst games ever made, it's still better than Code Veronica. Therefore, all that means is that CV is also one of the worst games ever made. Lol you honestly get your gaming opinions from reviews?! Haha, and you have the balls to call out someone else. Plenty of good games have poor reviews, and plenty of crap games have better ones. If i were to take their word for everything, I'd think God Hand was a crap game and Skyward Sword was a great one, and everyone knows that's not true. What the average game journalist or fanboy thinks is of no consequence to me.
I liked this game the only downside is how spongy even the most basic zombie is while also putting so many in small areas making item management a pain
Guy born in '88 here. I remember playing this back in '02-'03, and I *loooved* it. Maybe that's because I was unsophisticated and young, and maybe I'd think differently as an adult, but nevertheless I have fond memories of this game.
Chris coming back to save his sister was one of the most epic moments of RE history!! It made RE1 and RE2 finally come full circle. Jill already had her turn again in RE3, so this was Chris' time to shine. Code Veronica already had our beloved Claire from the masterpiece of RE2, and now Chris is more badass than ever. And of course the franchise didn't forget about Leon, because he came in the next installment! Excellent storytelling.
As much as I love the story and characters in this game on paper, I think you hit the nail on the head with the gameplay: 9 times out of 10 I want to play it, but 5 minutes into it I just go “Ehhhh, I wanna play something else.” I think Alfred’s a really underrated and almost tragic villain, and even Steve’s a good character on paper, but I REALLY hope the fan-remake heavily reworks the layout and gameplay, because it can be a slog to play.
re4 is easily 4-5 more hours longer then code veronica, in fact every game since re4 is way longer and drawn out then Code veronica even if you play super casually.
I'll never understand how a Resident Evil fan can be bored with Code Veronica. It's slower paced. It's harder. You going to be stuck longer. Idk it's everything I love about RE amped up so I'll never get it
@@jackd6881 That’s actually one reason why I’m not a big fan of RE4: Its pacing isn’t really best, and I think the castle and island sections particularly drag on.
@@I_Am_The_Social_Reject I think my issue with CVX’s pacing is that much of the time playing is spent backtracking across the same areas with no shortcuts opening up or environmental changes to shake things up. It just feels repetitive to me in a lot of areas. That said, I think the private residence was a fantastic location, and I LOVED most of the puzzles.
Stuck on a later part? Make multiple saves. Thats why they are there. Cant find ammo? Examine everything in a room. Theres ammo on lots of corpses in the game, not to mention an OP knife. Chris has more damage frames than Claire with the knife. Cant see anything? Use the lighter! This game is not hard...
That's the thing. This game requires extensive brainstorming and buildup from RE1 and 2 for better payoff. Lazy and inept people don't figure that out and appreciate more.
For me at least this and nemesis were probably my favorites. I like all the games for the most part though. Like I hope as much as I like this it gets a remake treatment and they add a section where you play as Wesker and follow his attack on the island and can use his powers and stuff. And then add in more weapons and also more survivors like there's supposed to be a garrison I wish we saw more survivors and like have them hostile so it makes it more challenging you have to contend with the zombies and monsters but also umbrella employees. I'd also maybe add a small section for Rodrigo he seemed like a cool guy as brief as he was.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 TheGamingBritShow's video was just awful. -It pains to look at (bright surroundings and dark footage). -It's in-name only (no real mention of the rocket launcher), it's clearly a disguised rant. -He used the original Dreamcast version and ignore ANYTHING from X just so he coud shit and joke about the OG version' credits. -He compares it to Silent Hill 1, despite how CV came a year later (wouldn't RE3 make more sense to compare it to, since they came the same year??). -He doesn't try to understand the story. Ashford twins guys voice is supposed to be over the top. Yeah it annoyed me too. There's good campy and bad campy. Old Navy ads from early mid 2000s and Code: Veronica were bad camp.
Dude I'm already subscribed, you don't need to clickbait me me by insulting one of my all time top 5 games. Also you gotta talk about how much campy charm this game has. Wesker realizing Chris was in the room while he was fighting Alexia and telling him "since you're one of my best men, I'll let you handle this" and just... walking out the door is fantastic.
This game’s knife would have to qualify as OP. My last two playthroughs of the game consisted of saving so much ammo, that Chris would enter the game with upwards of 250 handgun bullets; as long as you keep your knife aimed to the enemy’s legs or paws (and yes, this includes Hunters), you’ll be able to cheese most monsters, except Bosses. Just keep swinging. 🎼
I swear, people who claim Code Veronica is hard just plain suck at the game. I played it for the first time a couple of years ago, and yeah, it has some bullshit in it, but it wasn't hard. I feel like Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica are the types of games only veterans of the series will really enjoy, but not newcomers because of how they're designed and all the new crap it does to change the formula up.
I never enjoyed people putting a modern lens on something released 23 years previous. It's genuinely a ham-fisted attempt to cultivate traffic by saying something starkly controversial for the sake of getting views. Why did UA-cam recommend me this hot garbage.

I got CV back when it first released on the DreamCast all those years ago. At the time, I thought it was a fantastic game, and I had a great time with it. I've replayed it several times over the years on various platforms, and, while I still think it's a great game, it's hard to deny that it has some huge design flaws that can easily cause someone who is playing it for the first time to not be able to finish the game, at no fault of their own. Having played it before I'm aware of these flaws and can easily work around them, but I can definitely see how someone playing CV for the first time could end up having a bad time with it.
@@mich722 Well, a big one that stands out to me, is how easy it is for the fire extinguisher (or other items too for that matter) to get left behind in the security box that's in the first part of the game. If that happens then it's not possible to get the Magnum later in the game. I believe there may also be a little bit of weirdness involving parts with character switching, where, if you don't know how things are going to play out in advance, it's pretty easy to get into a situation where the character you're currently playing as may struggle to progress if the other character happens to be carrying certain weapons and items instead of having left them in an item box. There's also the boss fight near the end where you're supposed to just run away while taking damage and healing. If you don't have enough healing items there I believe it could stop you from being able to finish the game. I know it's theoretically possible to get past that part without taking any damage, but, in order to do that you've got to play in a pretty strange way that I don't think would be fair to expect players to figure out.
@@mich722 If you pick up all the ammo you see while playing as Claire (something that you would absolutely be doing first time round because of how hard the game is), then Chris cannot pick them up in his run through, meaning you’d have to play through the first half of the game with very little/no ammo. The game does not tell you about this so you would have no way of knowing. As the other guy said, you can permanently lock yourself out of getting the magnum if you don’t remember some random item that has no apparent purpose for the 90% of the game. You have to take forced damage during the Steve chase scene. He can kill you in two hits and you have to constantly heal to get past him. If you do not have any herbs or First Aid spray, you can get permanently stuck here. You can get around him but you need to either do some bizarre movement that isn’t obvious at all or abuse a pause glitch. Neither of these are intended by the devs You can become permanently stuck in the game’s final stretch if you don’t forget to use the item box as Claire to leave weapons for Chris. The game does not warn you about this so you can have all your best weapons and ammo stuck with Claire and leave nothing for Chris, making the final boss unbeatable.
About the Claire/Chris Item Box dilema: I do remember that, and I remember just loading Claire’s, file (back then, I always saved in two or three separate files just in case) leaving a lot of ammo and weapons, and health items in the box, then re-fought her Final Boss once more. It is an annoyance.
This was my first ever Resident Evil game. Introduced me to the vibe of the series at a young age. I remember just hearing my footsteps as I walked around with the lighter, not knowing what was in the next room and feeling genuinely afraid of the zombies. I loved it.
Why I dislike Code: Veronica. 1. Steve is annoying 2. Alfred is a poorly written character . 3. Alexia has no character. 4. The auto aiming system doesn't do a full 180 degree turn. Makes targeting enemies behind you difficult. 5. Toned down gore. 6. Weapons have little to no impact. (Especially the Bow Gun) 7. Steve is a pervert. 8. Steve is stupid. 9. Steve hurts my ears. 10. Steve exists.
From what I can tell from the files (playing the game for the first time currently) If Claire is infected by Nosferatu then blue herbs will not heal her. You need that specific serum as stated by Alexia in one of the files you can get as Chris.
Thank you for the review. I have the exact same feelings about Code Veronica. Lackluster background design, gameplay that didn't improve on RE3, and the extremely annoying character-switching system that forced me to restart the game about two times because I didn't know I had to leave my items for Chris. Boggles my mind that people call this the "REAL RE3" when it's inferior in just about every way. If I can make a recommendation, try playing Resident Evil Outbreak on the online servers, it's loads of fun.
The "gameplay that didn't improve on RE3" is an incorrect statement. It doesn't have some RE3 stuff like auto stair climbing, dodging, and ammo creation because both games were being developed at the same time by different teams, but it did have some new features such as retries, first person aiming (with specific weapons), dual wielding, being able to use healing items without adding them to the inventory (useful when your inventory is full), and a knife that's actually useful. I consider RE3 to be the better game (mostly due to some odd design choices for RECV), but RECV is still pretty damn good.
To each their own. I actually loved playing this when i was younger and played it quite a bit. I can agree with it's shortcomings, but it didn't really stop me from enjoying it.
My always unpopular opinion of this franchise: I love RE 3: Nemesis so much more than CV I don't care if CV was "the real sequel to RE2" in the mind of Shinji Mikami, Nemesis owns that title in the end and is a true sequel
I liked code veronica but it isn't my favorite either. OG RE1 and 2 are my all time favorites. For me RE0 is the weakest link as far as the old school style RE games go.
@@jackd6881 This is true. Nowadays I see so many people praising 3 and shitting on CV. Sad for me cuz I like CV a lot more but it's whatever it is what it is I guess.
For me it's my favourite resident evil and one of my favourite games ever. The Christmas I got this I also got a Dreamcast and several other games,it was my favourite childhood Christmas. I remember it being hard when I first played it but in a good way, I loved the characters & story and it really felt like resident evil taking the next step of evolution with its moving camera. The soundtrack was absolutely incredible & I still think it's the best soundtrack of the series along with OG RE1. I never suffered from the character swap halfway through on my first playthrough, but did on my second completely forgetting about it so it kind of felt like my fault. Code Veronica recaptured the atmosphere of the first RE & some of the segments were absolute nightmare fuel. Evil Doctor part, bandasnatcher part, iron maiden part & doctors basement in general, the fact that Alfred used to go down there drink wine and watch people be tortured. ANATOMIST'S NOTE is up there with itchy tasty as the best file in resident evil imo.
Okay, let's keep this brief. Noob traps - Definitely a problem. Not exclusive to RE:CV but definitely more pronounced than in the previous games. Steve's character - If you must cram an awkward potential love interest into a game, at least make that character somewhat charming and charismatic. Besides, it's weird to see a 17-year-old capable of flying without any apparent training. Still, whatever your opinion of Steve as a character, I have to respect Capcom's attempt to have a male NPC as a potential love interest, especially given the demographics of gamers. Replayability. The length of the game presented something of a barrier to replaying the game. RE3, for example, kept the game short but provided multiple outcomes tied to choices and QTEs in the game. I feel that RE:CV might have benefitted from something like that to keep replays fresh. Things I really enjoy: The soundtrack. Not a note out of place. The Ashford twins. I can't think of more unusual yet strangely compelling antagonists in gaming off the top of my head. Don't get me wrong, there are better enemies, but these ones are... unique. Rockfort Island. Sure, it's big but it does offer varied and exciting parts, each with their own charm and threats. Overall, I actually enjoyed RE:CV. Does it hold up nowadays? Probably not. But it will remain a pleasant memory.
I never checked items in Re2 / Re3 so when I played code Veronica I couldn’t figure out how to open the fucking briefcase and said “fuckin thing sucks!” 😅 Shout out to my lil bro for figuring it out in seconds.
The final boss doesn't get enough hate. As if poison wasn't enough, she also has to shoot out little bugs at you that swarm at you while you're dodging tentacles and spewing venom. I wish I had the magnum in my first run
Another big flaw is that any weapons that Claire had on her do not get unequiped when Chris shows up, so if Claire had the magnum during that fight, Chris cannot use it at all. This happened to me and I was forced to restart as I had nothing to get through Chris's segment. I still do really like the game though.
This is one of those games where there are great moments in it, but the fundamental design of the game is so flawed that those positives are lost in the overall experience. I want to love this game but I just can't quite manage it
I loved Chris’s design in Code Veronica, was def an upgrade from his original stars suit, looks more modern and realistic, the rolled sleeves always suited Chris as well. Him in cutscenes too, very good looking style just missing a belt with equipment XD The character designs were amazing.
I have to agree. I tried getting into Code Veronica several times before, and it just didn't do it for me. The atmosphere felt like at odds with itself; how much the tone shifts between being a thrill-ride and trying to be scary, and the environment design outside of some euro-inspired ones just looked so sterile and flat. It's easily the most bored I felt playing an old-school Resident Evil game, and I don't like that since I enjoy Claire as a character as well as consider the Dreamcast next to the PlayStation 1 as my favourite gaming system, but it is what it is. No disrespect to those who enjoy it. I'd rather feel like I'm missing something as opposed to coming to a disappointing conclusion. I feel the same way for other games like Tomb Raider 2, and I am in desperation for a positive perspective that can change my mind at the snap of a finger. But in general, I don't enjoy these kinds of games.
Re2 3 and veronica (original versions) are all great games 3 remake didnt respect the source material. They needed to do more with it. They had a chance to make something special. But they rushed it...
I'm going to be completely honest. I played CV for the first time around August of last year. I tried, tried, and tried to play that thing, but as the first RE game I'd ever played that used the tank controls, I wasn't having any fun with it. I wanna say it took me about a month before I finally made it past the first prison section. Every other time I'd just give up if I died and called it a day. And so I tried and tried and tried some more until I finished the game. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't a game I enjoyed fully. The final battle with Alexia had me stumped for a bit as well, with her 15 billion simulatanious attacks, I just grew tired of it after awhile and had to resort to stashing my inventory with flame rounds and herbs just to kill her. Now's the funny part. I thought about it. Why on earth did I keep coming back? I know I was frustrated with how it functioned, and the many pitfalls of the game were terribly annoying, so why didn't I hate it? I didn't even feel board by it. I actually liked it. Not in the same way I did as RE2R or 3R, but in the same way I enjoy darksouls. I enjoyed the challenge that I eventually overcame. And it made me feel weird inside. I can't really explain it other than that. I put it down for a while and only occasionally returned to it, but I'd usually stop before I got to the ending and just started over the next time I replayed it. Until this last Christmas. I heard about the tradition of playing CV on Christmas, since it takes place around that time, while not exactly on it, it's an easy enough mark to use, and it's a reason to replay an RE game. So I start it up, and I play it, and I'm actually enjoying myself, now in the same way I recalled feeling when I played through RE2R. I wasn't dying very often, I had enough ammo to last awhile, and I knew I probably wouldn't have the time to pick it up again if I dropped it then and there. So for the next 5ish hours,. I just sat there, playing the game from start to finish, having a blast. and I really didn't understand it. i thought the game was tough, so why wasn't it as challenging. Yeah, I knew the locations and what went where by now... but surely that couldn't have made the game feel all that different. i have a pretty good memory so I usually knew what went where anyway, so it's not like immediatly knowing where something went was all that much different from me remembering where I saw that one door with that one engraving in it. I guess maybe it's more of me knowing the item placement than the paths and doors well. That's really the closest thing I could compare it to. So yeah. CV, I enjoy it.
It just proves how much I enjoy your content that this is one of my favourite games of all time and yet this didn't wind me up 😊 I'm sad when someone doesn't love it as much as me but we'd all be boring if we had the exact same tastes!
Playing CV now for the first time since it came out - and I can't put my finger on what is it but it just kinda sucks. People wanting CV remake... Re1 is the next remake and I'm happy to take it
It’s not a game for everyone, but for its time it was amazing. The more it was re-released the more broken it became. This is still my first and favorite. Flaws and all
I remember one part where you required to transfer some puzzle items through chest, or something like that. So I hit dead end twice. Although enjoying the game as a teenager, I wasn't able to finish it properly once. Too much backtracking for me and generally yeah, kind of not pleasing.
I'm with you there, Code Veronica was one of the most awfully scripted, dull, horribly executed Resident Evils out there. It lacked atmosphere and just felt lifeless throughout. I didn't enjoy it one bit.
@@pietra9209 Resident Evil 4 was good when it came out because of its state of the art visuals at the time, new camera perspective for the player and added close range melee feature where you could follow up with a huge roundhouse kick to a stunned zombie. It looked like the series had been moved on substantially from its predecessors, or at least that's the impression it gave. However looking back at it now in 2022, for some reason it hasn't aged very well, doesn't look nearly as good as I remember it. I think it's one of those cases where you were so sucked in by visuals and atmosphere that you were prepared to ignore the game's quirks and flaws. In retrospect, it was a fun action game with great visuals and sounds, but it wasn't a great Resident Evil game, if that makes sense?
I don't know why this game isn't more famous, it's literally the best RE game for me. I think this was the epitome of RE games along RE1, if we don't take into account the remakes which are very good imo. Code Veronica was and is a masterpiece, I remember I was amazed by the graphics and the environments, and it also played very well for the era. I hope they do a remake, but original is still pretty good and feels more RE than many other RE games.
same, its in the top 3 for me, from all re games probably has the best story telling with the Ashford family, has lots of different zones you visit, have versatile gun selection, quite dark atmosphere compared to previous ones, only what sucked for me was Steves voice
If any game in history deserves and needs a remake, its RECV. And I dont mean a RE game. I mean out of games period its in top 5 that needs a remake imo. It could be a great game if certain things were addressed and updated. Skipping this one to make a new RE4 is pointless.
I replayed CVX for the first time in over 10 years. I beat it a few days ago. At the beginning of the game, Claire meets up with Steve in a room with a computer that's connected to the internet. She then emails Leon to have him warn Chris about what's going on. That confused me, as I thought Claire went to Umbrella Europe to continue her search for Chris. Why would she email Leon to contact Chris (whom she's searching for) to warn him about Umbrella (which Chris went to Europe to further uncover what was going on)?
Idc for your opinions of this game, code Veronica REMAINS ONE OF THE BEST RE GAMES OF ALL TIME, also it has Claire’s best designs AND voice actor, it also deserves more of a remake than RE4
That's a ridiculous statement and you know it. RE3 leaned heavily on RE2 and even re-used whole assets and environments like the police station. At least CV actually brought something new to the franchise besides just recycling the B story of RE2 about some super tyrant chasing you around. I like RE3 just fine but it essentially feels like a retread of RE2 with some incredibly stiff and occasionally painful dodge mechanics thrown in. Even the active time events where you're offered different choices don't end up being that significant or interesting on repeat playthroughs. CV has better environments, better atmosphere, a better story, a better soundtrack, deeper interactions between the characters (the whole subplot with Rodrigo, Claire' jailer, is absolutely beautiful and one of the small things that tends to get overlooked in this game) and actually gives us some interesting backstory about Umbrella as a company.
@@silversnail1413 I would strongly disagree with nearly everything you said. The police station was literally the only environment it reused. The assets themselves being reused is fine as long as it's not lazy and is transformative. I believe that re3 did this and then some. Re1 is about escaping a mansion. Re2 is about escaping a police station. Re3 is about escaping a city. Code veronica is about escaping a bunch of military bases. Everyone but the first one is a retread. Nemesis is the best enemy throughout the franchise before RE4, period. I don't mind the dodge mechanic but am sympathetic to your dislike. Depending on your strategy of play the cutscenes choices can make a big difference on the tactics used. It adds good flavor but you are right in that only nicoli's fate changes and you get to see Barry. The writing is pretty bad in code veronica and so is code veronicas voice acting. The battle music is trash. The ambient music is fantastic. It's so good it almost makes the cvx soundtrack as good as re3s. Rodrigo and Claire's interaction is short and sweet just like Jill's and brads. The notes in the game are all really good.
Just going to say some facts here to potentially for sharing facts, not trying to change your mind on Code Veronica. 1) If you don't get poisoned in Nosforatu you don't need to get antidote as Chris. 2) The worm is optional. It is not required, all you get fot beating it fast enough(not sure in terms of how long) you get the lighter claire gives the guy who lets her out of prison. You can get sub machines guns with this but it isn't required to beat the game. Like I said, not trying to change minds here, just including these facts here for the sake of maybe helping people learn more about the game. I respect the opinion presented and don't take issue with it.
@@JsReviews Yeah. It isn't required fighting the worm. Now you could argue why would you not and leave a dual wielding weapon like that and not have it for fighting enemies, but in terms of what is required to beat the game you don't need to. I just wanted to mention the fact to help you and others learn a fact about the game is all.
I really like this game but I agree with you on the character switching stuff. That almost made me give up on the game completely because it comes out of nowhere. Plus it's really easy to screw yourself over if you don't know it's coming. It's a very poorly designed feature. There's no way to sugar coat it.
I just beat it for the first time recently and it pissed me off but I wouldn’t say it sucks. It’s just from a different time and was the best they could do with the technology at the time. If you look at it from that point of view, it was probably pretty impressive for its time. It’s for hardcore gamers for sure.
Id say this is one of of my favs. The puzzles got more inventive I really enjoyed the bosses and combat encounters. Except the final boss. Also the knife was amazing and op best in the classic games. Not as good as remake 2's tho
Yeah, I've nearly played all of the main RE games. But Code Veronica is the first one that I've struggled to complete. Not because of difficulty, but because...I dunno. Usually with RE games, I'll fixate on them and go strong until I finish them. But with Code Veronica, I've taken breaks that last days, even a week at a time. And I'm really not sure what particularly I'm struggling with in the game. But this video explained it perfectly. The backtracking, the slower pace/busy work. It's a shame too, because I feel like Code Veronica has all the ingredients that make the previous RE games so great. Great zombies, a fair amount of locations (including a smaller mansion), puzzles that make you think, a decent soundtrack, and plenty of great sci-fi horror tropes. But none of the ingredients were implemented well.
@@JsReviews the bottom line is you weren't good at the game and needed a guide & it's not linear with obvious "from A to B" stuff for kids and that's why CV "sucked". pretty embarrasing. also the difficulty and the swap system from claire to chris isn't that big of a deal. the game gives you enough ammo and healing items to finish it without chris picking up claire's stuff. otherwise just load your last save stat. you kids are spoiled by games with unlimited lifes/continues and supply
Back in the day this game was regarded as a high-point for the series, I wonder why the reception has declined recently. Seems like a trend to come after it now.
A lot of people like this awful game because it is really hard and slow, clunky, irritation. It’s like Megaman X6. People just want to struggle and learn to “get through it”. Bottom line: Fans like struggling.
I will say the game is incredibly stingy with stronger ammo in Claire’s section of the game. The Bandersnatchers are annoying but I managed to get around it by using 1 explosive arrow and then just spray handgun or dual pistol ammo.
People don't realize that some enemies have invincibility frames after being struck. The bandersnatches are one of them. You could easily waste 3 explosive arrows on one when you only need 1 and a handgun bullet to finish them off.
I really like CVX. It's my second favorite after REmake. I completely understand why people don't like it though. That first Tyrant boss fight is BS and the linear launcher is stupid. I'm really looking forward to your review of 0.
can't believe how bad the average player is at saving ammo in this game, so many people complain about running out of ammo but I never had that problem.
Yes it sucked so bad finally someone that says it. If in the comments you say “I like code Veronica” just stop. Code backtrack is what it should be called. Slightly better than 6
I like code Veronica, the backtracking was only a slight inconvenience to me, I loved the challenge, music, sounds, cliche old school story, and the characters. Whole game was a ride and I didn't mind the tank controls even though that was a big complaint with old re games, beating the cargo boss with only a knife was my hardest challenge but I loved every second of it (probably souls game masochism)
I didn't get to play Code Veronica until the HD remaster came out on Xbox 360. It's the only RE game I never finished. I got soft locked after getting control of Chris on the island because the game didn't set ypu up to prepare to item manage for him and I didn't want to waste hours just to get back there with the correct item management. RE0 felt more fair than Code Veronica did in that regard.
@@hishamhani3497 lmao your obsessed. Code Veronica is not that good and I can find a lot better things to do than play that crap 20 times over and over.
This game sucks ass and they NEED TO DO A GOD DAMN REMAKE. I’m trying to get an A Rank and I always die cracking the crystal ball to get the security card. They should of done the A Rank with NO SAVES AND LESS THAN 4 Continues for the A Rank
I remember really enjoying Code Veronica back in the day, it felt like a natural sequel to Re 2 which is the ultimate best Re game - well now it’s the remake ! Really hoping for a Code Veronica remake too !
Nah, I highly disagree. CV is an amazing game that improves upon the previous entries. The reasons why people these days don't held it in such high regards is because they judged CV with modern RE standards (because they only found out that it's a mainline title years after it initially came out, plus the game not aging well) but they judged the first 3 games through nostalgia glasses even tho those games also have sections & mechanics that have poorly aged as well. As someone who basically grew up with RE (I played 1, 2, Nemesis, CV, 4, Outbreak 1& 2, Survivor all around the same time), I can confidently say that CV is in my top 3 amongst those games. It's just what I wanted from a survival game.
Where did all this hate for code Veronica suddenly come from? If you remember, it was a fan favourite and considered one of the best resident evil games, then some people made UA-cam videos saying it sucks and has always sucked and now most people say it sucks. I don't get the sudden hate for it but i think it's great
It's pretty funny actually. When I first finished the game about a decade ago it was pretty loved among the community while 3 wasn't. Now everyone seems to think 3 was so great even though I was underwhelmed by it even after multiple playthroughs. I'd rather explore Rockfort Island and Antarctica a thousand times before going back to the boring and flat Raccoon City streets.
@brpanther66 it's the same thing with classic sonic games. Some hipster makes a video online saying it sucks then everyone jumps on board for cheap clicks.
Imo the game just has the misfortune of being in that awkward stage in between the 5th and 6th gen. Code Veronica was an ambitious game, and in 2000 when the game first came out on Dreamcast it was pretty spectacular. But it hasn’t aged well. And when you add in some questionable design choices (like the mid game switch without warning) you get a mixed bag nowadays.
It wasn't terrible but it hasn't aged well and a remake can't fix its problems without a massive overhaul that basically turns it into an entirely new game with the same characters. That and I don't think Capcom wants to rerelease a game that features a crossdresser with mental health issues as a villain.
Not true, age has nothing to do with it. RE2 & 3 aged beautifuly. It's just very bad game design choices that drag this game down. If CAPCOM remade this right, this game could be one of the best RE games
I agree with his views albeit mine are harsher. The Tyrant’s boss fight is fucking bricked. I literally cannot dodge that fucker. I know how to beat him, but I keep dying.
Funfact: Code Veronica X got a Dreamcast version in Japan where it's known as Code Veronica Kanzenban, which translates to Code Veronica Complete Edition, implying the version sold before was incomplete. Good shit there Capcom.
CVX barely has anything that the original CV doesn't have. The only real differences is Steve's hair, new cutscenes (ex: Chris vs Wesker in the ending), and some cutscene changes (Wesker no longer getting humiliated by Alexia). It's mostly the same game.
The poison moth hallway and the stupid crystal ball instant death puzzle are the first things that come to mind when I think of this very frustrating game. I'd much rather see this get an official remake before RE4 because RE4 is already great. I'd love the idea of them taking a game I didn't like this (or RE0) and improving on it's potential with a remake.
I always hear so much praise online from fans of Code Veronica but man, I played it when it first came out on Dreamcast and recently did a play through and I have to say I agree with you 100%. I got frustrated and bored with the game. It just wasn’t fun like the previous 3. The level design is a mess and the story is just laughable (looking at you Steve). On the other hand I’m all for a remake to see what Capcom could currently do. I know RE4 is next up but I’d be hyped to see how they could tighten up the level design and add new exciting gameplay elements. Also bring back the Claire actress/model from RE2 and now we’re really talking.
The level design becomes much better in future playthroughs and the story isn't laughable. Sorry, but Steve being a bad character has no bearing on the full story. REV explored more of Umbrella's origins and wrapped up the events from the original trilogy. Also, Alyson Court is never coming back. She's a union VA now who Capcom doesn't work with. That's why she was replaced in Revelations 2.
Code Veronica was the only resident evil game that I replayed more than twice. and yeah I guess you could say some aspects of the game don't hold up to today's standards but really you could say that about tons of games from that period that doesn't make it bad. It was an excellent game for the time. I think code Veronica had some of the best characters in my opinion, I love the over the top most definitely insane antagonist. It definitely didn't have amazing voice acting but come on it's a resident evil game if you were expecting good voice acting it must be your first time playing resident evil.
I still love CVX to this day and honestly consider it Chris and Wesker’s best appearance in the series. However, as much as I like Wesker in this game, bringing him back ended up being a huge mistake.
I haven't played Code Veronica since probably a year or two after it came out, but I remember thinking it had the best story of the series so far. The first 3 had stories that can be summed up in a paragraph. But I can never forget being upset that there was a part where you switch from Claire to Chris, and if you haven't put all of the good weapons in the box before this happens, you are screwed. I remember there being no warning at all that it was going to happen, and I had to restart the game because of something I flat out could not pass because of this. And, I may be wrong about this, but the part where Steve turns into a monster and chases you down, there is no way to avoid him and you just have to take damage and have enough healing items on you. I remember feeling like those were major flaws. But overall I have good memories of CV, and wish they would remake that one too!
You can actually avoid Steve. Shoot rockets at him and he'll be pushed back enough that his axe won't hit you, though you'll have to shoot him again to me sure. Alternatively, and this is really stupid, run TOWARDS him and you can get him to swing enough that you can run away without risking him catching up
it is no flaw that there is a character swap without a warning. come on, you were a gamer way before the kids took over. what’s the point in a survival horror game giving you a „caution: character swap“ warning?! you also can best the game without picking up anything from claire’s stuff. and just in case: make 2-3 save stats as you should always do. you sound like the new generation gamers who are spoiled by unlimited lives/continues
Claire’s look on here still remains as one of my favorite character designs throughout the franchise. It’s top 3 for me.
Claire is my fav RE character because of CV. Love her look here, her voice and of course, her sheer badassery
The best after REmake Jill and RE2 remake Ada.
@@Walamonga1313 Alyson Court is the one true Claire Redfield. Wish they'd bring her back.
@@RuruFIN RE1 Remake Jill is my favorite.
@@RuruFIN According to who? No, you got it twisted. REmake Claire is best and first, then those other two irrelevant ho's you mentioned.
Good things:
1. The knife has been greatly improved
2. The camera work style from Dino Crisis 1 was used and improved upon here.
Bad things:
Chris's portion of the game definitely isn't as good as Claire's, but I still enjoyed it.
@@InhumanFan98 That certainly would have been interesting, but I was still satisfied with what we got.
RE3 original did better improvements:
- free walk stairs.
This and zer0
I would like to see a remake of Code: Veronica, instead of RE4.
@@PsychoWerekitsune I agree, I would like to see a Sonic Adventure remake.
Agreed. CV is an amazing game, a lot of people don’t like it because it is probably the hardest in the series.
We just don’t really need an RE4 remake, at least not yet. The VR version definitely can fill that void and CV needs a lot more love. I was underwhelmed by the original and would love a remake.
But you are going to buy it like a hypocrite.
Happened to me but I adapted and conquered.
As someone going back and playing the games decades later, this one is ruff. I’ve tried 3 times to finish it, but kept losing interest
Also whomever did the lighting should get punched in the face
@Good Hunter I found 0 more annoying than CV (though I still enjoyed it).
Yeah I love this game mainly for its storyline but that is a massive flaw not to mention oversight on Capcom’s part.
Easy fix by making multiple saves
@@marcraider why u dont like 4?
Press x to doubt
These games are supossed to be cheesy, they are inspired in gore zombie b-side movies, people don't seem to get that
CV was just as if not more cheesy then the other RE's LMAO
16:55 Dino Crisis 2 did that first and better in the ps1
Regina has dual sub machinegun weapons that will individually target and track enemies with a lot more range and precision than the dual handguns of cvx
That games overall design also makes better use of them, being more action focused and actually having situations where the dual targetting really comes in hand.
I honestly cant recall any time in CVX where the dual handguns were actively useful outside of being a fun gimmick (specially since they have super limited ammo and you never pick up more)
Hell, something else people praise CVX for are its 3d areas and dynamic camera anglea... which dino crisis 1 has done already on the ps1... and again, did arguably better, by actively using its camera angles to simulate something watching or following you through windows and overall bulding tension, which is something I honestly dont remember CVX doing outside 9ne or two rooms.
Might have been better, but Code V came out before. And all this talk about Dino Crisis. what about the 3ed one. the one that Fonzied the series.

I would love a remake of this game similar to the re2 remake! That would be amazing
too bad capcom likes to halfass its RE entries and launch their games at about 70% of the content. re7, re2make, re3make, re8. all like 70% content, lol. but they want full price, mmk.
I hope to God not, RE2 sucks. Now remaking it like RE1 is much preferable.
@@splash_067 re2 remake is amazing you’re on crack
I just stick to the tried and true RE formula of dodging and only downing enemies in corridors that I know I'll have to return to multiple times.
lol i remember me and my brother had to start over halfway through the game because of the tyrant plane boss fight , fun times 😅

CV is an amazing game, a lot of people don’t like it because imo, it is probably the hardest in the series.
Actually RE0 is much harder, but I get and agree with your other points.
I came here to see what part sucked? Its a Masterpiece and my Favorite.
@KwonJasperet Nothing interesting, then.
@KwonJasperet No, just good game design would've been nice, but they couldn't eve manage that with Code Veronica.
@KwonJasperet I didn't say it was a masterpiece, so maybe work on your reading comprehension. I just said it was better than CV.

@@jackd6881 I don't believe 5 is. That game felt short as hell. 7 did too.
Aw, God, here we go again...
I really like this game, despite the backtracking.
I will say I do enjoy J's take more than TheGamingBritShow's.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 TheGamingBritShow's video was just awful.

-He compares it to Silent Hill 1, despite how CV came a year later (wouldn't RE3 make more sense to compare it to, since they came the same year??).
-He doesn't try to understand the story. It's not Shakespeare, but COME ON!

🤡🤡🤡
Game is so easy. So many herbs and ammo. And save slots.
Which design flaws?
@@mich722
If you pick up all the ammo you see while playing as Claire (something that you would absolutely be doing first time round because of how hard the game is), then Chris cannot pick them up in his run through, meaning you’d have to play through the first half of the game with very little/no ammo.
Neither of these are intended by the devs
You can become permanently stuck in the game’s final stretch if you don’t forget to use the item box as Claire to leave weapons for Chris.
I loved it.
same, I was 7 yo and I shited my pants at night after I first played this game x)
Why I dislike Code: Veronica.
1. Steve is annoying
2. Alfred is a poorly written character .
3. Alexia has no character.
4. The auto aiming system doesn't do a full 180 degree turn. Makes targeting enemies behind you difficult.
5. Toned down gore.
6. Weapons have little to no impact. (Especially the Bow Gun)
7. Steve is a pervert.
8. Steve is stupid.
9. Steve hurts my ears.
10. Steve exists.
Code V is freaking awesome!
From what I can tell from the files (playing the game for the first time currently)
If Claire is infected by Nosferatu then blue herbs will not heal her.
@Por Qué? me ?

Things I really enjoy:
The soundtrack.
As a old school Resident Evil fan all the things you disliked about the game i love. Although i do agree with the item management
I never checked items in Re2 / Re3 so when I played code Veronica I couldn’t figure out how to open the fucking briefcase and said “fuckin thing sucks!” 😅
Shout out to my lil bro for figuring it out in seconds.
The final boss doesn't get enough hate. As if poison wasn't enough, she also has to shoot out little bugs at you that swarm at you while you're dodging tentacles and spewing venom. I wish I had the magnum in my first run
It takes 6 grenade launcher rounds to down her. Just aim upwards at her face just sayin....
Him in cutscenes too, very good looking style just missing a belt with equipment XD
The character designs were amazing.
Re2 3 and veronica (original versions) are all great games
3 remake didnt respect the source material.
Code Vernoica was supposed to be RE3, and RE3 was supposed to be a spin off, expansion type game to RE2.
Re1 is the next remake and I'm happy to take it
Re1 has already been remade
@@timmyturner5951 Yes 20 years ago - I know. Modern version i'm talking about - it's gonna be 30 years anniversary so you know it's coming
Yet, there's RE4 where Leon saves the presidents daughter. . .groundbreaking.
@@Longlostpuss4 is literally the film Dagon in a video game.
CV is the best RE there ever was
If any game in history deserves and needs a remake, its RECV.
It’s 100% nostalgia that makes it so much fun for me, I’ll beat it once or twice a year now.
Going from OG RE3 to code veronica feels like a step backwards in almost every respect.
I'm one of the few people that didn't like Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. I prefer Code Veronica X over that one.
@@tomahilaire3921 though I have plenty of objections to cvx, I still think there's plenty to like. Did you play cvx first?
@@gorrack10281987 I'm pretty sure that I did.
Damn, I wish I had thought of skipping that boss, would have saved a lot of time.
That game sucks
Mid story mid controls mid everything

Final boss sucked for sure lol. It felt like luck

11:39 I like how RZ's line is almost starting to become some sort of catchphrase.
Lmao I thought that was the next great meme mystery and I got busted before the video is even out.
Get gud scrub
@@timmyturner5951 Get a better game fool.
Same. They just suck at it
Yes it sucked so bad finally someone that says it.
Stop gaslighting people and get gud scrub. Complaining about backtracking in an RE game is so remedial.
I finished this game 15~20 times on different consoles and am willing to do it again in the future ❤️

The first ever RE game is terrible but I do enjoy it. To say CV is worse than the original is just objectively false.
Code Veronica needs to be played way more than just once or twice to truly understand the game and appreciate it fully.
And there's so many hidden dialogues and different ways to play it.
Marcus is a crossdresser they want to remake that one
Not true, age has nothing to do with it. RE2 & 3 aged beautifuly. It's just very bad game design choices that drag this game down. If CAPCOM remade this right, this game could be one of the best RE games
2 years later: “how I learned to love RE: Code Veronica”
Hey, it will be at least five!
Capcom being Crapcom. Every time they something right, they feel the need to then mess it all up.
CVX barely has anything that the original CV doesn't have. The only real differences is Steve's hair, new cutscenes (ex: Chris vs Wesker in the ending), and some cutscene changes (Wesker no longer getting humiliated by Alexia). It's mostly the same game.
In my opinion, Code Veronica is the only RE game which was actually scary or disturbing. The atmosphere is really eerie.
The voice acting was better than the first 3.
I still love CVX to this day and honestly consider it Chris and Wesker’s best appearance in the series. However, as much as I like Wesker in this game, bringing him back ended up being a huge mistake.
Why wesker made resident evil so much better as an interesting antagonist
It's the only game in the series that would massively benefit from a proper remake and it's the only game not getting one. So sad.
One of the worst Resident Evil game I played.
@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 you can run around him and it will slow him down
