And, increasingly, Paul wants to be seen as some sort of intellectual and Renaissance Man, given his recent cooking and painting exploits. He wants to be admired more than he wants people to aspire to be him, I think. The tension here is between Paul’s intellectualism and focus on “musical credibility” vs Gene’s anti-intellectualism and preoccupation with baser desires. Of course, both are just personas, and some believe neither are really like this at all - Ace claims Gene is actually quite a nice, generous guy if you’re not involved with him on a business level, and Paul seems to be revealing a bitter, vengeful side of his own with his continuing grudges and character assassinations of Peter, Ace, Gene, and others.

Totally untrue imo. In his biography he writes that even as a very young teen, girls would want him sexually. He's always been a self-centered and self-promoting guy. At the age of 6 he picked up prickly pears, peeled them, and sold them to tired laborers at their bus station. As a teen he pursued his love for comic books and TV shows not really giving a fuck whether that's considered cool or not. He is a special man and although in his fat phases he didn't look attractive in my opinion, he always had that energy of a man who values his own life and wants to make something out of it. And maybe that is attractive. Paul and Gene's friendship, in a way, had a special sort of background maturity or respect where, they disagreed on so much but still understood that the other will always see the world through his unique set of lenses.

Changing tastes in music and empty venues that once were full. Somehow Kiss survived it all, triumphed really, and created many masterpieces over many years, along with many great shows. And I think to do that at least some of them 𝘩𝘢𝘥 to be stuck on themselves, and have personalities that are strong.

Of course, after he was done, we started chanting "more, more" and he says, "what do you expect for free?" I had been a KISS fan for decades and have spent loads of money on records, concerts, and merchandise as I'm sure most there did. I thought it was a real jerk think to say. He could have said he had to get ready for that night's concert, anything but that. Afterwards, we got to meet him and he signed his autograph. He acted like he was real put out. Then a few years down the road someone took me to a KISS concert. The whole time, he performed for the cute young blonde in the balcony. Everyone around me was talking about it. Everyone paid good money and he acted like the audience was barely there.
Got to see them live when they came to nashville a couple of years back even though they are old enough to be my grandparents they put on one hell of show played for 3 hours straight

I completely soured on KISS from that point on. So now we fast forward 20 years, and KISS is on their SECOND "Farewell Tour", although COVID-19 has thrown a monkey wrench in that idea for the foreseeable future...and if that weren't bad enough, there's indisputable evidence that KISS has been lip-syncing and miming to backing tracks on this tour...more deceit and deception. And if all of THAT weren't bad enough, Paul and Gene already plan to continue KISS with other players impersonating the two of them along with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and just sit back at home and reap the rewards without having to set foot on stage. Wow... and there'll still be people who will actually pay to see that... I guess it's true what they say about a fool and his money...

I wonder if he thought in 1992 he would be charging fans 6k to snap 1 photo or thousands of dollars to sell one of those cheap Iceman guitars or his paintings going for thousands. Funny because Revenge is the last great Kiss album but no one cared. Yet now they just play 16 songs same set list and make millions per concert. That 96 reunion changed there lives and kinda killed grunge so Kiss did get the last laugh at the critics. But they haven't made an honest album since 91, That psycho circus was pieced together.
I got zero respect for Gene. It's always got to be about him. Like when Shannon was revisiting past places of her youth, Gene tried to get some glory (Episode of Gene Simmons family Jewels when Shannon tried sharing her past with him on a trip to Her old stomping grounds.) When he got put in his place, he called Doc to drum up business. If you look at how his mother raised him, she spoiled him rotten. She made him believe he was better than people and fed his ego. I also hear she never really punished him for anything. When a family member went to punish him for something, she went crazy on them. I don't doubt that story. But he is heartless, arrogant and thinks he is God. He cares about himself and his vices.

Paul would have a completely valid point, if only that point were completely true...for many years Paul and Gene have stood on that old "We're all about the fans and do it all for them" and "the fans put us here, without them, we'd be nothing"... but the reality is, they've taken advantage of the fans' loyalty and deceived them over and over. The final straw for me was back in 2000 after the FIRST "Farewell Tour", when they said absolutely and undeniably that's it, we're done, KISS is over, and it was all a lie...they brought in Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer in place of Ace and Peter in their makeup... I completely soured on KISS from that point on. So now we fast forward 20 years, and KISS is on their SECOND "Farewell Tour", although COVID-19 has thrown a monkey wrench in that idea for the foreseeable future...and if that weren't bad enough, there's indisputable evidence that KISS has been lip-syncing and miming to backing tracks on this tour...more deceit and deception. And if all of THAT weren't bad enough, Paul and Gene already plan to continue KISS with other players impersonating the two of them along with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer, and just sit back at home and reap the rewards without having to set foot on stage. Wow... and there'll still be people who will actually pay to see that... I guess it's true what they say about a fool and his money...
That’s why their merchandise is unaffordable. I saw tickets starting at $1800 for the Knoxville show in November. They don’t appreciate their fans and never have. They’ve always overcharged more than any other band.

20 years of what we do. I wonder if he thought in 1992 he would be charging fans 6k to snap 1 photo or thousands of dollars to sell one of those cheap Iceman guitars or his paintings going for thousands. Funny because Revenge is the last great Kiss album but no one cared. Yet now they just play 16 songs same set list and make millions per concert. That 96 reunion changed there lives and kinda killed grunge so Kiss did get the last laugh at the critics. But they haven't made an honest album since 91, That psycho circus was pieced together.
I got zero respect for Gene. It's always got to be about him. Like when Shannon was revisiting past places of her youth, Gene tried to get some glory (Episode of Gene Simmons family Jewels when Shannon tried sharing her past with him on a trip to Her old stomping grounds.) When he got put in his place, he called Doc to drum up business.
If you look at how his mother raised him, she spoiled him rotten. She made him believe he was better than people and fed his ego. I also hear she never really punished him for anything. When a family member went to punish him for something, she went crazy on them. I don't doubt that story. But he is heartless, arrogant and thinks he is God. He cares about himself and his vices.
I feel like gene not being on drugs makes this all worse. Like at least people who get clean can blame their past behavior on drugs, but he can’t even do that😂😂

Love these two guys. True brothers in Rock and Roll. Always standing by what they created together. And always arguing and bickering on who's right and who's wrong. It doesn't get any better than that. I'm glad they stayed together all of these years and gave us fans great music, great shows and great entertainment to last us several lifetimes.

However,I can attest that even as a rock guitarist playing and touring in bands that were only openers and not famous,I always had women wanting to meet me and be with me. I may not be ugly,but I'm not that attractive. Evidently,long hair,being on stage and having a wild presence is very powerfully appealing to a lot of women. And I do mean young or married or older.
