As for the noise it doesn't bother me much as I use it mostly in the city working mostly with the electromotor (which is silent) due to lower speeds that it can support without assistance from the engine.
In Japan, adults rarely ride in the back seat. If they do, it is only as a passenger in the back seat of a cab or when a college student with no money is traveling with four friends. Even for married couples, wife owns a kei car（ engine 660cc）.

Urban Cruiser is a rebadged Suzuki Grand Vitara. It works extremely well inside town with two passengers. Beyond that, you are on your own.
