- After being an avid visitor of Downtown Wilmington and always wondering what kind of fish I could catch in the Cape Fear River I decided to see if the bass fishing is any good and it actually surprised me!

Nice video, next time you are out there take a clear bottle with you and scoop out some water. You will find the water to be clear unless we have had a lot of rain. It’s the cypress bottom that causes it to look black and the fish to be darker. 🎣

im from wilmington and the river has some nice quality bass. some of the surrounding lakes do as well.
Oh yeah! The cape fear bass are always fat and happy, haven’t caught too many big ones out of there yet but they’re always so much fun to catch!

You should try Sutton lake next time. The last 2 hours of daylight is pretty active
Will Riley I’ve tried it a couple times this summer and haven’t had the best luck but im planning on fishing it more in the fall and winter since its a power plant lake!
@@jamiehegarty_ Those bass in there are pretty smart. I think they either want live bait or something small. Late in the day in the right pond you will see the big ones come up and gulp like a 100 gnats at once sitting on the water.
Yeah the only thing I could get them to eat were small jerkbaits. They were definitely feeding though! Theres a lot of bait in there!

@@drerobbins648the Sutton lake fishery has Florida strain bass that were stocked over 40 years ago. So, not so much the case. just lots of pressure and lots of older fish.
Bought som property 30 miles in from the coast. on the Cape Fear. You’ll have to drop by and show me how to fish it. Leaving California.

Well they’re not native to that part of nc and I also think it would just be too hot for them to survive in a river like that
