Making Your Rig (IC-7300) Control SDR Programs Such As SDR Console using OMNI RIG

  • Getting OMNI Rig to work for the first time is a little tricky. Once installed, it runs in the background and provides a link between your SDR software and your designated transceiver.
    Here is another video showing how to install the RX7300 in your IC-7300.
    • IC-7300 with INRAD RX7...
    Using the RX7300 allows you to use your SDR receiver and software as a panadapter. Your software will now control your rig or rig control the software.

    I connected my Yaesy FTdx-3000 to the SDRuno via RSP2 as a panadapter. I'll try to connect it to SDRconsole or SDR# using the Airspy HF+ Discovery instead. You're video is very clear and useful. Thanks a lot. 73 from PY5WHO.

      Do you have Omni Rig selected in your SDR software? Like HDSDR must See Omni Rig and Omni Rig must see HDSDR and your Other Rig. It's like a bridge.

Wondering if you could give me a bit of info or advice - I can't seem to loosen/remove any of the screws from my IC-7300's top cover (been trying with #1 phillips), must have given a gorilla the job of puttnig them in. Hi Steve, please I just saw your video, very interesting, and I think that although my setup is different, I can follow the steps and reach the same conclusion, I hope ..... my setup is:
    ICOM 7300
    PTRX7300
    AIRSPY HF + Discovery
    SDR Console last version
    EAXBEAM antenna for 6, 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20 m
    and a Dipole for 40 & 80 m.
    do you have any experience with the PTRX7300 and the AIRSPY HF + Discovery?
    Thank you, and Happy New Year everyone and take care!

    Thank you! Before your video I was completely stuck in the configuration of the external SDR receiving from the radio's IF. If you're still using this software, do you know if it's possible to have independent control of the radio's VFO and the external SDR receiver's VFO like in HDSDR? Sorry for my bad english and 73 from PY5CL

    • @n4lq
      @n4lq  2 роки тому

      I suppose you can simply disable the link between the software and your radio by turning off Omnirig. That would free up the software to control only the SDR's frequency.

    Hi Steve, great video. Tnx. Unfortenelly I get an Error in the SDR-Software. When I start the SDR-Console, a window apears "Radio Definitions". I selected "SDRplay V3". An error message came up: "Check service version, require 3.06 - API version don't match (Console=3.06 Service=3.09). Do you have any advice to solve this problem? Second question: In your video, while you describe the the necessary software-components, I can see in the first line of your desktop-window "SDRPlay RSPDuo = SDR console v.3.0.21". How do get these two Software-programs together? btw. OMNIRig is perfectly running. Excause by bad English ... 73 Wolfgang DG5CR

    All that explanation was very clear. I don’t understand why I would want to turn my 7300 into an expensive tuning knob? The radio is already full SDR. Is external SDR more sensitive or something?

    • @vijovame
      @vijovame 4 роки тому

      Some SDRs are better than any radio(some are really expensive), for example, I believe that SDRuno has the best audio compared to other software, it includes a lot of filters but the hardware maybe is not better than any radio, in my case, I purchased an cheap used Yaesu FT-991, not the FT-991A, because of its transmitting capabilities of 180-2 meters and 70cm, with SDRuno and the 911 it's a great combimation between RX and TX, now with this video I learned how to make the 911 go to the frequency I choose in the PC software, it's amazing.

    • @o00scorpion00o
      @o00scorpion00o 4 роки тому +2

      Because you can use the audio from the SDR with is likely much better with much better filtering, NR and NB + you get a proper large waterfall on the screen, seeing the spatter of some stations 10-15 Khz up and down is truly horrifying something you can't see with the small 7300 Screen.
      I use the Airspy HF+ and just got the panadapter installed today, the DNR on it it amazing ( through the SDR software not the 7300 ) + the NB actually eliminated the electric fence noise that the 7300 can't.
      Using the Airspy makes the 7300 feel like a much more expensive SDR transceiver. SDR transceivers usually get several updates throughout it's life, a traditional radio would be lucky to get one or two and you might not notice the difference, an SDR transceiver update can add loads of features or make massive improvements.
      I wouldn't bother going to the expense of connecting a cheap RTL dongle, it won't have the performance necessary when connected to a HAM antenna.
      However, if someone was interesting in getting a 7300 + panadapter + SDR then I would suggest they get the Sun SDR 2 DX 100 watt transceiver, it looks amazing.
      I already had theAirspy HF+ lying around doing nothing.
      The panadapter is a big upgrade to the 7300 and it's likely anyone who gets it will not go back to traditional transceivers. Just don't use a cheap poor performing SDR like RTL TV dongle or modified dongle.

    • @n4lq
      @n4lq  2 роки тому

      The rig doesn't connect to the SDR, ever. What connects to the SDR is Omni Rig. Both the SDR and Rig must connect separately to Omni Rig. When setting up the SDR software, whatever it may be, you need to find how to connect it to Omni Rig. I assume the SDR already works with your SDR software.

    Having
    some really odd behavior that maybe someone could shed some light on. I
    have an IC-7300 that I am using SDRuno and an RSP1A as a panadapter for
    it. I am doing this with one of those PTRX boards installed in my 7300.
    It was all working very well. Had to tear all my stuff down to set it
    up in a new desk I got for the shack and when I put back together this
    happens. When I started SDRuno, it asked me if I wasted to install the
    new version and I did. when it starts up now, my radio automatically
    goes into transmit. Looked at the settings in Omni-Rig and nothing has
    changed. If I disconnect the PTRX and run SDRuno on its own it works
    fine. Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? Thanks and 73's
