On that night, they played a football game at a sold out Prince concert. This halftime show is LEGENDARY! There will never be a musician on this planet as talented as Prince was on his worst day. RIP Prince.
100%agreed.. RIP 🙏🏼 🕊 Prince
Amen! 💖🙏🕊️
He played other artists music too not just highlight his own
Bro I love reminiscing on this one. I was just a kid at a Super Bowl party and I remember the adults talking about how Prince stole the show for the rest of the night.
Facts
Prince's death was one of musics greatest losses to date. He was iconic.
I was devastated for a while
Could you imagine? Electric Guitar, 6 inch heels and pouring down rain! The production team apparently called Prince just before the show to ask what he wanted to do, if he still wanted to perform, they said Prince asked, “Can you make it rain harder?”💜💜💜
Can you make it rain harder, are you freaking me i hope that's true.
@@ernestsmothers8355 check out the video on the NFL UA-cam channel, Prince Halftime Performance at mark :34 is where the guy talks about it! I had to go back and check!🤣🤣. I like to hear the backstory on events😊😊
I saw that video, and that was an epic reply!!
@@ernestsmothers8355
It was. NFL's own video about the event had the producers who confirmed it. He legitimately asked that.
@@ernestsmothers8355Its true 😂
No lip syncing or backing tracks while in the rain. A pure natural
Prince had literally rather take a punch in the face than lip sync! He was music, he didn't have to give himself title's or have tons of press his music spoke for him! And we Prince fans appreciated that, And after the iconic Success we stayed, went to all in concerts bought his music and we respected the Man! So while most artists call themselves king's and Queen's of this or that, Prince Roger's Nelson ( Real Name) had no equals in 🎵🎵🎵
@@gifted2at94 absofunkinglutely!!!!!!
No
Children dont know Talent now. The FIRE to perform at a Level and not "phone it in" for the check. LIVE power in the rain. (Yes, her was Wire-less) but Prince IS the MAN.
Was it really live ? It seems at two occasions he had his hands away from his guitar but the guitar part was still playing ? One of the two times he did that I believe he was readjusting his guitar strap due to the rain making it skid.
Prince will always own the best Super Bowl halftime performance of our lifetime. He was a master musician, composer and performer. And every single minute of it was real and live.
Micheal Jackson was also one of the best
@@robertdavis7000 he was one of the best but prince was the bestest of all time.
I won tickets to the super bowl that year and I was in those stands, getting soaked, watching him perform this live! By far the most epic moment of my life!
But you probably couldn't say that you didn't enjoy it, right ?
It always amazes me how young people are unaware of Prince and his genius😁🕊️🥀
Love it. I was blessed to see prince perform several times. Transcendental every time! 💜
Then you attended THE best superbowl ever.
So confirms Rolling Stone & Billboard.
I love this for you.
Nothing will ever beat Prince singing Purple Rain, in the rain, his silhouette shredding behind a piece of fabric, while 10's of thousands of people sing it back to him. Nothing will ever come close. These are the moments we live for. These are the moments that are remembered forever.
Prince beat Mozart, he mastered over 20 instruments by age 17, he could dance, sing any note, rap, he wrote, arranged, performed ALL his music, including wrote hits for other artists, he has covered almost every genre, Metal, Punk rock, hip hop, pop, r&b, soul, jazz, blues, country, ambience, classical, instrumental. The Multi-Genre God. He could play anything, and your favorite artists have been deeply influenced by him. Corey Taylor, Whitney Houston, Steve Vai, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Lil uzi vert, H.E.R. , Paul Mccartney, all worship Prince to just name a few. Prince recorded his first 2 albums at 16 all by himself, all instruments, lyrics, arrangement, composition & vocals were all by him. He was such a prodigy, that music executives wanted proof, they would fly across country just to see if he could really play all instruments, because it was so unheard of. Prince has over 50 official released albums and when he passed, they found over 10 thousand unreleased Prince music in his vault. He then came into the business and was the FIRST to fight for artists rights, and he WON. He would write "slave" on his cheek and go to meetings protesting against the industry. Prince was also the first artist to sell his music on the internet. You are talking about the most talented artist we will ever see.
That’s quite a rap sheet. Anywhere specific I can look to confirm all this?
@@seanshukoski3457 Most of it is common knowledge, actually lol
@@seanshukoski3457 You can google any of the statements beside his name and articles should come up.
@@seanshukoski3457 There is a video here on UA-cam where Prince himself says that he mastered 20 instruments by the time he was 12.
All along the watch tower by Jimi Hendrix you guys don’t know what you’ve missed in times passed! Look it up!
The reason this is so great is because it's real. It's not an absolutely perfect recreation of the records, it's raw, in the moment and something completely unique to this event. That's what live music should be.
Spot on that solo wasn’t elaborate at all but god dam was it powerful
I'm 60 years old and THIS is my favorite half-time performance of all time and I've seen a few.
Can't argue with that full stop, the Master , heaven sent without don't. RIP Prince 💜💜💜💜. 🇬🇧🇬🇧 🎸🎸🎸🎸. 😀😀. ✌✌ 🙏🙏 😇😇😇👍🏼👍🏼
Do you know how DANGEROUS it is to play Electric guitar in the rain in Heels on a slippery stage in the DARK?😂😂😂😂😂😂 LIKE DUDE IS A PRO!
I hope that moment meant as much to him as it did to us. I hope he understood how much he was loved. 💜
I saw him Prince in concert and at one point he sat, by himself, on the stage and just played the guitar from his heart. Most amazing moment to be a part of.
Right after Prince died, I came across a performance of his that blew me away. 2004 tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles. Allstars on stage, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood play "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I must of watched it at least 20 times that night. Loved it.
That is an EPIC performance!!!
It was NOT a "tribute to George Harrison of the Beatles". It was a posthumous tribute to George Harrison upon his second induction into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, this time as a solo artist. He had an absolutely amazing and impactful career far beyond the Beatles. Ijs.
Seen it! SPLENDID! 🦩💙✨✨✨
That’s a great one 👍
Same! 💜
Best halftime show EVER! As a metal head, I LOVED Prince. He was the complete package.
YES...! ( Metal player)l remember in the late 80s, guys talkin bout "HIM". Hes a ROCKER...! RIP......
Metal head here too...highly recommended Chaos & Disorder 🤘 Prince Hard rock album
@@charlesxavier.. PARTY MAN !
Anyone who grew up in the 80s knows that opening line..."Dearly beloved...". It's iconic. This song also is in the opening scene of the movie 'Purple Rain', which you absolutely need to watch. Every song is legendary and you see him perform them all.
👆Text me I have a surprise for you🎁..
This is undoubtedly the best Super Bowl halftime show Ever 💜☔️🌂
Prince - 39 albums in 39 years, 1977-2016. That’s not a rabbithole, it’s a rabbithoooooooooole!💜
All Along the Watchtower was written by Bob Dylan and has been covered by lots of people, most notably Jimmy Hendrix. During the first half of that game the promotion people ask Prince if he wanted cancel the show but he told them "No make it rain harder."
Fucking thank you lol. Let’s not taint an American classic with jw trash
But Prince was actually Jehovah Witness 🤷♀️
Prince's talent was unmatched. He was the consummate showman, and we were blessed to have had him here for the time that we did. He did his thing and he did it like a boss.
👆Text me I have a surprise for you🎁..
Without a doubt, the BEST halftime show ever! It's like the heavens poured down the love just for Prince. The only thing he was worried about was his hair getting wet, so he wore the head scarf. Then by the end he was like "what the hell" and pulled it off. I wish he was still with us on this earth. I saw him twice in concert. Aaaaahhhhhh-mazing is all I can say. Thanks for this reaction.
I got to talk to him, for the first time, when I was a teenager. I, unknowingly wondered onto the set of Purple Rain. He walked up next to me and asked me about the scene they shooting. I almost wet myself. Then, some years later got to see him perform at First Ave and go back to Paisley Park for an after party. And have been to a few more of his shows. I actually live across the street from Paisley Park and had run into him a few more times around our little town. An absolutely amazingly nice man and was so gracious to his fans. I, as so many people were, was devastated when he died. It was a stormy day when he died and just hours after he passed and dozens of mourners (myself included) gathered at the gates of Paisley Park a rainbow formed over the estate, it was magical. Google it. He was an incredible talant, incredible person. It still feels like some kind of cosmic mistake that he died.
I live in the cities and I’ll always remember that day.
I was seven months pregnant with my first child and at work. You’re right it was raining that day. I had to go outside and cry when I found out. I was seven months pregnant. Sitting on the sidewalk and crying in the rain.
@@chipmunkred1519 awww, what a visual I'm so sorry. I was right there with ya. Well,.after the shock and denial wore off. All these years later it's still hard to believe.
I love him so much. I still get emotional when I think of him being gone.
Prince..RIP, was just pleasing the crowd...he didn't self satisfy. It was always for the audiance.
Great comments my man, I totally agree. It had not rained in like 40 years at a Superbowl ... until Prince played Purple Rain that historic night. To me Prince is the God of Music and forever will be the GOAT. This performance was meant to be.
WORD! What a performance💜💜💜
You already know. 🤜💜🤛
Prince’s Super Bowl performance is the best ever! No question about it. There is only one Prince.💜
Let’s not forget that he is doing everything in this performance, all of this greatness, in heels in the rain on a wet stage!!! He is superhuman, IMO!!!
When God was passing out talent i think Prince managed to sneak back in that line.
@@ernestsmothers8355 more than once.
So …. I’ve been a Prince FANATIC since he 1st came on the scene … so when he … left … it was and continues to be a giant hole in my heart! 😞
Seeing young folks like yourself discover his genius and enjoy his music helps a great deal.
It makes me feel he’s spirit is still here … through his music!
Thank you! 🙏🏽💜
💜💜💜
Throughout his career Prince would show up with his band to a small local club and play another whole concert until the wee hours of the morning after his main concert ended at the large venue in whatever town he was playing. I got to witness one in the mid-90's at Metro in Chicago....20 bucks cash at the door....he came on at 1am and played covers and hits until 4am. He was music.
There was a great article written about this halftime show, the producers would concerned about the rain and all the electronics, of course. They asked Prince if he had any requests and he said, "make it rain harder." Legend.
He asked, “Can you make it rain harder”. It was a question, not a demand. Get your facts straight.
@@Babemuffin Seems like a distinction that doesn't require a snarky comment but judging by your picture I imagine this is how you spend most of your time.
After that no one should ever have done a half time show ...how do you even compare to this masterpiece. Best solo song ever performed.
Prince was so amazing he did a cover set and it was THE BEST! With his amazing catalog, which would have been fantastic, he still did THIS. Blew that crowd’s mind.
It was some covers and some of his stuff. "Let's Go Crazy", "Baby, I'm A Star", and "Purple Rain" are his.
In all honesty I think he chose these songs to show off just how good he was on the guitar. This man had the hugest chip on his shoulder when Rolling Stone left him off the best 100 guitarist of all time in 2004.
@@mistylynn7425 well, he has plenty of his own songs that allow him to rock-out on guitar though, but he knew that his songs were revered by some but not by most, so he was probably hoping to entertain even those who didn't normally listen to his music. Maybe even change some minds and give his music a chance. I think he succeeded there.
@@cryptozoomauler5505 True. Could be both.
Yes. The best Super Bowl performance EVER!!!! There is also an interview before the Super Bowl where Prince played 3 songs in a press conference that he didn't play at the Super Bowl
Really,Whitney Houston,
Chris stapleton,
I saw him in concert 4 times...what an experience! I have been to many concerts and seen many artists but Prince was much better! Another level of musical genius!
The ending song Purple Rain IN the rain was EPIC... It was really hard not to cry.. when the crowd was singing along.. MAGIC, MOVING, RAW and real... He gave his heart and love to that stadium that night... Best show ever!!!
Prince was getting a little emotional near the end. He must have felt the beauty of it all.
Once Prince took the stage, I could not take my eyes off him for a second. Such a talented, command presence -- all 5'2" of him!

I've been privileged enough to see Prince live twice. I've been privileged to see A TON of incredible bands and artists in my life, but Prince's shows occupy the #1 and #2 spots in my list of best concert experiences ever. To call the man a virtuoso isn't enough. To call him legendary falls too short of him. If ever there were a pantheon of immortal rock gods, Prince would surely sit at the head of that hallowed table.
The NFL did a behind the scenes You Tube video on this show that is worth checking out. They were so impressed with Prince and his willingness to just play. Totally unfazed by the rain. So glad you have found the Wonder that is Prince.
I was blessed to see him jam at Paisley Park many times. Watching him play any instrument he picked up and conduct the band was a sight to behold. I remember the very first time, walking to my car at 4:30am thinking what did i just see.
Prince is music. That’s it. He was not just the best, but also the most loved by everyone. He was more royal than any actual royal family member. And the respect he gave back. From showing respect for other great acts by covering them during HIS halftime show even though he has enough hits of his own, and the end - bowing and showing gratitude to the crowd with such grace.
He’s one of very few who actually lived and breathed music.
Recorded enough songs to last another 100 years. That’s true dedication.
This might be the best performance I've ever seen. The perfect combination of stage presence and technical ability. Prince put his heart and soul into this performance and he makes it look so effortless. RIP Prince
Man was a force of nature....no other explanation. His live performances were phenomenal.
When he was told it was raining, he simply asked, "Can u make it rain harder?"
I've seen him many times live. No one will ever come close. Happy Born Day, Prince 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🕊
I love that you said a modern-day Mozart, I say that often. Prince was beyond amazing
There is a world full of artists but very few legends.
World is full of wannabe artists, but only few true masters. He was a master
FACTUAL! Popular "music" comes and goes. #PRINCE is Music. Period.
One of the Greatest, most humble musicians in the history of this world. The man connected with his audience like no one Ive ever seen. Purple Rain Live is absolutely magical. Listening to the audience finish Purple Rain for him was epic!!
“Hey prince it’s raining, should we change this up?” Prince : “make it rain harder” GOAT of GOATS.
He was meant to play that night. I haven't seen this in years. So much emotion, I'm crying 💜
Great reaction!!! I get tears when I watch Prince 😥 I'm so glad I was alive while he was in the world. To witness his greatness 🙌
Walking around in the rain with 6" heels. I will always remember this as the day there was a football game played during a Prince concert. Prince playing like he ordered up the rain.
If you're gonna be doing a deep dive into Prince, I'm here for ya.... Any of his Montreux Jazz Festival performances is stellar. He was at the peak of his guitar playing powers during those times imho.
Seeing him in concert in Minneapolis was the best concert I have attended. We are proud here in Minnesota- and honored he keep his home here throughout his lifetime.
👆Text me I have a surprise for you🎁....
Except his home isn't in your city. It's in a suburb OUTSIDE your city. And $125 a person to see 4 rooms and his secondary recording studio is a ripoff.
Love seeing someone discover Prince for the first time & then quite rightly being blown away!😁🎸
When I was 15 years old "When Doves Cry" changed my life forever I just followed you to relive that journey with you, you were correct when you spoke of Prince being authentic and live and leaving it all on stage, why we call ourselves fams.🙏🌹❤️💜
I remember shedding a tear when he started singing Purple Rain and the symbol lit up purple.
If you really want to see Prince in action, check out his concert in Syracuse NY, it's on UA-cam. Every mention his singing, music etc. No one mentioned he is planning in pouring rain and not one curl on his head fell. ...The man is an enigma...
The purple rain guitar solo gives me chills every time.
nothing has nor can anything come close to capturing what Prince gave us that night. Some bands leave it all on the stage, Prince built the stage, performed on the stage and dismantled it at the end of the ngiht. No other performance can ever come close to the magic that was this show!!
I'm a rock/metal guy, but YES, that is the greatest halftime performance EVER.
One of the things I like the most about this performance is that Prince got in front of one of the biggest crowds imaginable, the perfect place to show everyone how great his music was...and played other bands' songs. Half his set is cover tunes. He just wanted to put on the greatest show he could, playing the songs he wanted to play.
I will never forget watching this live. There will never be another one like him.
truly a magical moment in time.when it all comes together. the performer, the crowd, even the weather.
There will never be anything more epic than Prince performing purple rain live in the rain.
The good old days. I miss those days. RIP Prince

No one can top Prince playing Purple Rain, in the rain. Nothing beats that.💜
You didn’t like the one last year or The Weeknd’s the year before? Because both of those were incredible for their own reasons. Those are probably my top three right there. Oh and MJ obviously. Probably Beyoncé too but I’m not into her like that so I was probably less in awe than big fans were.
"Prince was incredible apparently. "
What a fuckin understatement 🤣💪🏼🫶🏼👑
I was lucky enough to see Prince live many times. My first concert my mother drove us in a blizzard 2 feet of snow. Was so worth it.

The most talented individual in pop history, so unique, so authentic and steeped in all elements of rock and roll, funk and RnB.Sorely missed and irreplaceable.
Saw Prince live many times. Each experience MOVES you and NEVER leaves you.
I was never a big Prince fan and discovered too late just how talented he was. This was by far the best SB Halftime Show ever. Miles ahead of the lame crap they have been serving up lately!
STILL. 2024. I can't see ONE performer doing this alone without featuring special guests. This was a ONE time thing for the Superbowl.
I was lucky to see him several times in concert. Even before Purple Rain...you should have seen him dance!!! Sexiest man ever! Prince is my King!
Now, that's a PERFORMANCE! So lucky I got to see him live at least once on his Raspberry Beret Tour
THIS is legend at work....Prince will often do covers during live performances, and his interpretations of them are always amazing 🙌🏿
Love how he included EVERYONE ! Prince was a spectacular guitarist, singer, humanitarian, all round musician, he could do it all. He also started many young artists on their way.
Just pure talent on stage. That is greatness. No gimmicks needed
Sometimes I think our best musical days have passed . But then I hear Chris Stapleton and renews my faith…. Prince’s purple rain in the rain will never be beat..
Idk if I cried because I miss him or bc I just don’t think we’ll ever have another artist on this earth like prince
Both, my friend.
There will never be another Prince. He had it all. He could put the crowd in his hands and make them do anything he wanted. He approached Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top to show him some different licks on the guitar
Prince is a LEGEND. It’s so sad we lost him. Purple Rain (song and movie) are on my list of favorites 💟
Prince is the greatest musician that ever lived hands down, bar none, close the book THE MAN!!!
Best halftime performance by far....Prince was amazing 👏
I've easily seen Prince at least 9 times in large and smaller venues. The best shows I'd ever seen. Still miss him. R.I.P, to the best performer I'd ever seen live.
"All Along the Watchtower" was a jam by Jimi Hendrix.
Your reaction to this was my reaction to the start of the movie Purple Rain. I wasn’t a Prince fan when I watched it in 1984, and the moment he started with Let’s Go Crazy, I was hooked. Btw, All Along the Watchtower was written by MN native Bob Dylan and made famous by JIMI Hendrix. I will always recommend exploring more of Prince and as an OG Prince Fan, I am always willing to talk Prince!
The night of the Super Bowl when it rained, the producers were concerned with execution on the steel mat. Prince and the Twins being hurt, or the Twins slipping on their 6-inch heels while dancing so they called Prince and said, Hey man, it's raining. What do you want to do? Prince said, "Can you make it rain harder?" Beautiful man. There will never be another PRINCE, like Prince....
I saw Prince in concert in his purple rain tour when I was 13. It was mind blowing 🔥 He is 5"2 and his presence was giant. Best concert I have ever seen.
without a doubt, i never seen an artist put up a great performance like this under in the rain. He is a musical genius
Love Prince! When Doves Cry, Lets Go Crazy and Kiss are popular songs of his. Also, Justin Timberlake did a Prince tribute in his Super Bowl performance(most recent one). All Along the Watchtower is about a joker and a thief discussing life. Its Bob Dylan and then Jimmy Hendrix. Proud Mary is CCR and Tina Turner. All 4 versions of these songs are amazing!
Prince was known as the Prince of funk and his career spans generations from the 70’s to early 2000’s. The First song he performs here is let’s go crazy and you gotta listen to full intro this only had the first part of the dearly beloved speech and you gotta hear the actual original version he sings of this song.
Yeah, it's the best ever, by far. To add to the atmosphere, they asked him beforehand if he wanted to cancel because of the storm, he responded "can you make it rain harder?" I believe it's the best Live _national_ performance ever. Everything involved -- song choice, performance, atmosphere, and execution is just on another level.
FYI, he mixed multiple songs in that stretch - all along the watchtower by Jimi Hendrix and Best of You by Foo Fighters
This was one of the best reactions I have seen. I actually just watched another reaction video to this show, and they kept insisting he wasn't really playing the guitar. Kind of made me angry TBH. This man was on a whole other level! A truly unique and oh so talented human being. You've got a new subscriber!!
Hi. I love that your discovering the absolute GENIUS of PRINCE ! He is sorely missed; but will never be 4gotten. For in the vaults were over 8,000. unreleased songs which T.C. said atleast 1-2 albums 4 over 100yrs. AWESOME !!! Note: PRINCE was only with the Revolution till 86. Then the NPG till like 2013. Then Third 👁 Girl (great R&R). Next: solo, Piano & A Mic. Soo great and genius, SOLO !!! Unfortunate circumstances at a early age taught him "to do 4 self" he states in interviews. Truly a 1 MAN BAND !!!!. 🎶💜
It was the first and only superbowl performance that had a rainstorm. "Lets Go Crazy" was his second number hit on the billboard charts and was apart of the "Purple Rain" album. If you watch the music video you'll be even more impressed 😄 This was ranked as the best superbowl halftime show ever
"All Along The Watchtower" was a Jimi Hendrix song - he was paying homage.
Def best SB half-time show ever. Prince was legendary. RIP - take way too early. I feel so blessed to have grown my pre-teens and teens during the emergence of Prince and Michael Jackson. Both of them were larger than life and global superstar legends. Both taken too early and I mourned them both. What I wouldn't give to have them both back doing music!
"Good music makes us better people". -Sebs. Excellent line!
It was a Bob Dylan song that Jimi Hendrix famously covered.
Prince was a J witness
"Let's Go Crazy" is from the Purple Rain soundtrack. The whole thing is totally worth a listen. All bangers. From Darling Nikki to Baby I'm a Star to When Doves Cry. Just an amazing album.
The absolute best halftime show EVER!! I remember watching it and it was amazing!!!
When Prince was young (17?) he submitted a demo tape that secured his first recording contact. He played every instrument on that tape as well as producing and engineering it himself. The man could honestly do anything.
👆Text me I have a surprise for you🎁..
Actually, for the album versions, he does all the instruments except where noted. If it's a New Power Generation album, then, they are performing on their instruments the way they do for his live shows. It's a bit like how Trent Reznor was Nine Inch Nails but had a band to perform the songs live.
He was so talented. One of the best halftime shows. Michael Jackson also did amazing halftime show also.
I think of more recent ones as of 2010s onwards, Madonna was an amazing one too.
You know as much as i liked MJ i never liked the fact he mimed the whole show, even the slower songs!!
But MJ's performance did set the modern standard for Halftime shows. Before him it was honestly a joke. And even if he didn't sing live or play guitar it was a stroke of genius for a performance in production quality alone.
@@allergic2sanity So it isn't a joke that he didn't sing a note live? Adam Levine got slated for his vocals but at least he sang live!!
Best half time ever!!!!! Miss you Prince Rest in Heaven
