You know, to be honest, untill you pointed it out, I never questioned why we got a Springfield 1903, an old school Remington 870, the Thompson, the 1911, the butterfly, and the Mauser c9 in 4, I had never considered that it was supposed to tie in with the village being stuck a few generations in the past
Yeah, and especially considering that it isn't that old in contrast to some of the other "old" guns (1950's vs. 1918 for the Thompson, or 1896 for the Mauser).
Funny enough because of RE4, I now actually own an Red 9 pistol, took me ten years to save my pennies for one as they are pretty hard to come by as the Germans only made 160,000 from 1916-18, most were destroyed by the allies at the end of the war, which is why existing red 9s are expensive collector's items going for $2500-$3000 these days...
Can we appreciate that Capcom actually went through the trouble to model the cable and pressure pad for weapons like the Red9 so as to keep up realism? You know, give a reason why the laser is active only when aiming. Oh and the slow firing speed isn't a con. Too often I end up wasting rounds with the other handguns when firing in a panic.
There’s times where you have too much pistol ammo and can’t help yourself but just unload with the Blacktail. Best DPS pistol in the game, aside from the Matilda.

Might be worth giving them a call.

Samurai Edge and the 4 Customs are definitely planned for the future, we just want to make sure they're executed perfectly since they're basically the best guns to come out of Resident Evil.

Who didn't run the red 9 after finding out it's the most efficient damage per bullet granted the ganados didn't line up 3 in a row for your punisher (which I'm sure nobody ran)

@@Kimu3657 the damage may be low but the satisfaction of at least hitting twice the enemies and performing the takedowns are superb, especially when connecting 2 takedowns in a row.
I went for the Blacktail. Lots of power with plenty of ammo for worst case scenario. My first run of the game I needed every bullet I could get my hands on But my favorite has actually been the original handgun you start with with maxed out stats. The amount of headshots you get from that thing's Exclusive upgrade is almost unbalanced to the point of making the whole game stuck on Easy.
@@CasshernSinz1613 well the downside of that makes the probability of revealed plagas higher that ever and makes you waste more ammo in the process. Blacktail is good and balanced, but i still prefer a handgun with a firepower of a rifle. XD

I love the Red 9 in RE4 cause its a life saver for all of us in the game. Truly the best carry around handgun ever and one the first successful semi automatic handgun ever built since WW1. I gave it the nickname “The Ammo Saver” cause it saves quite a lot ammo when going through the story of the game.
Lol a bit "too much" for me. Whenever I new game plus another round of re4 and choose the red 9 I always have 200 to 250 ammo sometimes more and it takes way too many space. That's why it's my primary weapon. Normally its the shotgun but red9 is way too op
I must admit, i have a love for these older german handguns. And while there were detachable magazine version of the C96, i am not surprised they went with the more visually interesting stripper clip original reload.

Great, accurate coverage. Loved using this in Resident Evil. Mauser made their own upgrade to the C96 in a caliber called "9mm Mauser Export" considerably longer than the standard 9mm Parabellum. Only a few C96s were made in this caliber but the the cartridge was used in a number of submachine guns in the 1930s and WWII. See the Wikipedia article on it.

I remember getting this gun. It took almost an entire playthrough to upgrade it fully. That next new game with it fully upgraded was awesome! Love that gun!
Not gonna lie, Blacktail and Silver Ghost are my favorite handguns in the game. Blacktail for its super fast aim speed (makes Gun Fu exceptionally easy), and Silver Ghost for the aesthetic but, damn the Red9’s reload animation is freaking top tier along with the base rifle.
Red 9 my favorite weapon in resident evil 4 All though I unlocked the Chicago typewriter and infinite rocket launcher I always keep the Red 9 because the accuracy of this weapon is amazing with the addition of a stock fully upgraded complete with exclusive upgrade
I just realized something luis was a police officer who's main weapon is the red 9 that comes with a stock. And leon was police and his first was the Matilda a gun that also comes with a stock. In other words luis is a Spanish version leon. Did know that or I'm just being wired?
In game its great, but in reality this gun was hated. It was outclassed and outdated in WWI. The cilp and small ammo capacity, along with top loading was a nightmare in the trenches.

The reason I would've preferred the Red 9 is 'cause of... well, the damage-per-shot. BUT, it's mainly 'cause I believe that more damage = better efficiency (as in, that I don't need to use as much ammo to kill the enemies. Conserving them for later use) 5:22 I don't see the lower Fire Rate as an issue. Less risk of wasting ammo. (holding the trigger down too long. OR, that I'd make sure that I line up the follow-up shot first) The Reload Speed would (potentially) be the only issue though. 5:34 Again, the keyword why the Red 9 would've been my favorite. (ammo conservation) (one reason I've been holding back from playing, was 'cause of my biggest fear: Instant Deaths. Which're relatively common in these games.)
PREPARE FOR LONG COMMENT. A friend of mine had a dream about this game years ago. The dreams version of this game had a different plot. My and my friend were in his dream. According to him we were asked to go into the village to deal with illuminados cult threats. They tried sending a platoon from the army in against 200 ganados and got their asses handed to them somehow. The govt called us and sent us in with our own choice of weapons but we had a budget to keep and we each ended up with the following arsenal. MY FRIEND: RED 9 Handgun SEMI AUTO .223 Rifle TMP 9MM AMMO RIFLE AMMO TMP AMMO 3x RGY HERB MIX My arsenal: Riot gun Broken butterfly Knife 1x F. Aid Spray Shotgun ammo Magnum ammo Now in this dream we still had to face off against 200 ganados and they didnt drop ammo as far as i know. But according to my friend he would sometimes get cornered and hed hear me calling for help and hed wrap up his threat immediatly and turn to go help me but id already have it taken care of by the time hes ready to turn around. According to him i was so quick that he didnt hardly pay attention to me but what he did see he was impressed. Like heres an example (My friend gets cornered and sees me get grabbed by several ganados.) Me: A little help! Him: Hang on! (Fires away with TMP) (UNSEEN BANGs! [In other words he hears me firing my guns but hes still clearing his path with the tmp]) (HIS Ganados die) (TURNS TO FACE ME) (Sees my ganado threat is clear) That sort of thing happend a lot. Hed barely ever have to help me but hed get grabbed quite often and id bail him out before they did any damage for thr most part like luis does in the cabin sequence. We made a great team not only did we conserve our ammo we took out all the ganados in a matter of minutes. And FYI we were confined to the village area for the whole dream. To put it in another perspective imagine playing adas seperate ways but being able to interact with leon hed still go off do his own thing while you completed your mission id be the leon of this scenario showing off my skills and hed be the male equivalent of ada in the scenario. He even said in his dream he thought i killed more than he did. And we went through the 200 wuickly it was like 15 maybe 20 minutes between the 2 of us. Yeah we kicked ass! But again that was HIS dream i think the reason he didnt do so good cuz he was nee to the game still at the time and i told him about my skill and he had the dream and the next day he asked me what weapons would i have chose. I told him if it were real life what id gone with and my arsenal matched the one above 👆 only i told him i wouldnt have had just an f aid spray id had a small stockpile of ammo as well as healing items but the dream just SHOWED him what i had so he asked the next day and i just got oddly close. Like he knew me already. 😀 For him it was like having a 2nd leon in game 😁
I remember my first time playing RE4. My friend told me the Red9 was garbage because of its accuracy. As soon as I bought the gun, the game basically became easy mode!
Never thought we'd catch Spidey on his vacation in Spain. First the symbiote invasion, then some whiny soon-to-be electric God, now the Ganados. He just can't get a break.
What I wouldnt give for more channels to do stuff like this...but maybe it only really works with stuff like Resident Evil cause the weapons are more unique.
ah the mauser c96 in most games my favourite go to pistol. stopping power accuracy and awesome reload. plus the iron sight is bawler. and in payday 2 u can mod it to look like han solos blaster :D
one thing that was a turn off in RE for me was how some of the details where off on the guns. Like for example in RE4 there is a revolver in the game name 45 magnum in real life there is no 45 mag revolver 45 acp 45 long colt and 44 mag but no 45 mag revolver. I don't know if was done on purpose to avoid legality or the fact that there is no gun culture in japan where the games were made.
I was so obsessed with RE4 in the 5th grade that when we had to make advertisements to sell a product for one lesson I actually wrote one up for the Red 9 and had a comical disclaimer at the end of it.
just a heads up, if you still want a red 9 theres companies like denix, who make a c96 in 9mm (just needs the 9 painting in red) for about 100 dollars, or if you want a firing option then the HFC c96 (aka box cannon) is another cheap option. but you wont find the red9 specific model as its not a prominantly used weapon like the broomhandle was, the 7.63/7.65 was widely used in ww1 but the 9mm not so much, as a result there isnt really a market for them.

In the US you can get your hands on a legit Mauser C96 for about a $1000-$1200 I havent shot the 9mm version, but I have fired the 7.63, and I would describe it as actually rather nice to hold and shoot, but finicky to load.
Love the klink klank sound they gave it as well. I also agree and have said it for a long time - the best sounding gun in any game, ever. I'd love to pick a real Red 9 C96 but am too poor, and the ones in the affordable price range look like they got hit with fine shrapnel thanks to awful pitting, not to mention totally shot-out barrels. I picked up an airsoft gun from WE to scratch that broomhandle Mauser sized itch tho, pretty fun. Keep up the good work Kendo, I'm glad there's a dedicated RE gun nut channel out there (first found you thru RoE).
I’m very glad you mentioned the delicious SFX of this gun. When gun-toting in a game I crave that exaggerated mechanical feeling of the weapon to increase the fantasy. Well made cranks, pops, crunches, and tinks are very fun for me. It’s why I prefer guns in games that have some kind of manual action or involved reload animation (with quality sound) to them.
Bear in mind that the 5x on the handgun applies to melee attacks and to your knife swipe when the handgun is equipped !! Oh and of course... aim for the head ☺
This guy's voice ironically sounds a little like Paul Mercier who voiced Leon in RE4. Great gun analysis, Red 9 is powerful and my go to gun in RE4.

The 870 didn't seem out of place. It's like the most used shotgun

An 870 and 1911 are still in use today by cops and certain militaries, the others can certainly be justified by the past village

If I remember correctly, I kept using the Red 9 instead of the next pistol. Couldnt ignore how much more stable it was compared to the others.

Red9 is power, Blacktail is speed, that’s how I distinguish them.
Its in between Punisher in terms of Speed and Red9 in terms of Power.

Honestly to me blacktail is more of a balanced weapon while red9 focuses more on power and the conservation of ammo

Hey now don't diss on my punisher (used till the end on my first run). It still saves some ammo when you actually line up shots.

I just recently started playing RE. More specifically, RE4. I can say for sure that the Red9 has saved my ass plenty of times.
Not gonna lie, Blacktail and Silver Ghost are my favorite handguns in the game. Blacktail for its super fast aim speed (makes Gun Fu exceptionally easy), and Silver Ghost for the aesthetic but, damn the Red9’s reload animation is freaking top tier along with the base rifle.

Recently I was surprised when I used a maxed-out Red 9 on mini bosses like Mendez. It only took 6 shots in each half for us to see eye to eye.

All though I unlocked the Chicago typewriter and infinite rocket launcher I always keep the Red 9 because the accuracy of this weapon is amazing with the addition of a stock fully upgraded complete with exclusive upgrade
I just realized something luis was a police officer who's main weapon is the red 9 that comes with a stock. And leon was police and his first was the Matilda a gun that also comes with a stock. In other words luis is a Spanish version leon. Did know that or I'm just being wired?
Do the Lightning Hawk and the Handcannon next
In game its great, but in reality this gun was hated. It was outclassed and outdated in WWI. The cilp and small ammo capacity, along with top loading was a nightmare in the trenches.

La primera vez que jugué RE4 tenía 7 años. Y desde ahí la Red 9 ha sido mi favorita de todos los juegos. Igualando con las silverballers de 47 de Hitman. Ya no la uso porque se me hace excesivamente fácil el juego. Solo uso la pistola estándar. Excelente video. Mucha nostalgia.

If I had to make a My Top 10 Video Games Weapons: The Red9 would be my number 1 without even thinking.
The reason I would've preferred the Red 9 is 'cause of... well, the damage-per-shot. BUT, it's mainly 'cause I believe that more damage = better efficiency (as in, that I don't need to use as much ammo to kill the enemies. Conserving them for later use)
5:22 I don't see the lower Fire Rate as an issue. Less risk of wasting ammo. (holding the trigger down too long. OR, that I'd make sure that I line up the follow-up shot first)
The Reload Speed would (potentially) be the only issue though.
5:34 Again, the keyword why the Red 9 would've been my favorite. (ammo conservation)
(one reason I've been holding back from playing, was 'cause of my biggest fear: Instant Deaths. Which're relatively common in these games.)

A friend of mine had a dream about this game years ago.
The dreams version of this game had a different plot. My and my friend were in his dream.
According to him we were asked to go into the village to deal with illuminados cult threats. They tried sending a platoon from the army in against 200 ganados and got their asses handed to them somehow.
The govt called us and sent us in with our own choice of weapons but we had a budget to keep and we each ended up with the following arsenal.
MY FRIEND:
RED 9 Handgun
SEMI AUTO .223 Rifle
TMP
9MM AMMO
RIFLE AMMO
TMP AMMO
3x RGY HERB MIX
My arsenal:
Riot gun
Broken butterfly
Knife
1x F. Aid Spray
Shotgun ammo
Magnum ammo
Now in this dream we still had to face off against 200 ganados and they didnt drop ammo as far as i know. But according to my friend he would sometimes get cornered and hed hear me calling for help and hed wrap up his threat immediatly and turn to go help me but id already have it taken care of by the time hes ready to turn around.
According to him i was so quick that he didnt hardly pay attention to me but what he did see he was impressed. Like heres an example
(My friend gets cornered and sees me get grabbed by several ganados.)
Me: A little help!
Him: Hang on! (Fires away with TMP)
(UNSEEN BANGs! [In other words he hears me firing my guns but hes still clearing his path with the tmp])
(HIS Ganados die) (TURNS TO FACE ME) (Sees my ganado threat is clear)
That sort of thing happend a lot. Hed barely ever have to help me but hed get grabbed quite often and id bail him out before they did any damage for thr most part like luis does in the cabin sequence.
We made a great team not only did we conserve our ammo we took out all the ganados in a matter of minutes. And FYI we were confined to the village area for the whole dream.
To put it in another perspective imagine playing adas seperate ways but being able to interact with leon hed still go off do his own thing while you completed your mission id be the leon of this scenario showing off my skills and hed be the male equivalent of ada in the scenario.
He even said in his dream he thought i killed more than he did. And we went through the 200 wuickly it was like 15 maybe 20 minutes between the 2 of us.
Yeah we kicked ass! But again that was HIS dream i think the reason he didnt do so good cuz he was nee to the game still at the time and i told him about my skill and he had the dream and the next day he asked me what weapons would i have chose.
I told him if it were real life what id gone with and my arsenal matched the one above 👆 only i told him i wouldnt have had just an f aid spray id had a small stockpile of ammo as well as healing items but the dream just SHOWED him what i had so he asked the next day and i just got oddly close. Like he knew me already. 😀
For him it was like having a 2nd leon in game 😁
I remember my first time playing RE4. My friend told me the Red9 was garbage because of its accuracy. As soon as I bought the gun, the game basically became easy mode!

ah the mauser c96 in most games my favourite go to pistol.
stopping power accuracy and awesome reload. plus the iron sight is bawler.
and in payday 2 u can mod it to look like han solos blaster :D
one thing that was a turn off in RE for me was how some of the details where off on the guns. Like for example in RE4 there is a revolver in the game name 45 magnum in real life there is no 45 mag revolver 45 acp 45 long colt and 44 mag but no 45 mag revolver. I don't know if was done on purpose to avoid legality or the fact that there is no gun culture in japan where the games were made.
I was so obsessed with RE4 in the 5th grade that when we had to make advertisements to sell a product for one lesson I actually wrote one up for the Red 9 and had a comical disclaimer at the end of it.

Do the most famous pump shotgun ever the Remington 870. Since it appears in the original re1 and re2 remake.

just a heads up, if you still want a red 9 theres companies like denix, who make a c96 in 9mm (just needs the 9 painting in red) for about 100 dollars, or if you want a firing option then the HFC c96 (aka box cannon) is another cheap option. but you wont find the red9 specific model as its not a prominantly used weapon like the broomhandle was, the 7.63/7.65 was widely used in ww1 but the 9mm not so much, as a result there isnt really a market for them.

Yes, it's a genuine Mauser Red 9. Yes, it's mine. Yes, it is in excellent working order and I've shot it. Yes, it was expensive.
In the US you can get your hands on a legit Mauser C96 for about a $1000-$1200
I havent shot the 9mm version, but I have fired the 7.63, and I would describe it as actually rather nice to hold and shoot, but finicky to load.
I don't smoke, but I would like some Mr. Scott's Bubblegum.
Modern guns look ok to me but looking back at the old Gun design cant help but like it more

Only took about 10 years for me to find and purchase a genuine, working Red9.
This video about Red9 should have a remake for comprising its version from RE4 Remake, too.

Love the klink klank sound they gave it as well. I also agree and have said it for a long time - the best sounding gun in any game, ever. I'd love to pick a real Red 9 C96 but am too poor, and the ones in the affordable price range look like they got hit with fine shrapnel thanks to awful pitting, not to mention totally shot-out barrels. I picked up an airsoft gun from WE to scratch that broomhandle Mauser sized itch tho, pretty fun. Keep up the good work Kendo, I'm glad there's a dedicated RE gun nut channel out there (first found you thru RoE).
Artillery gun. The stock would be house additional ammunition. Rifles were too bulky(forgotten weapons)

I’m very glad you mentioned the delicious SFX of this gun. When gun-toting in a game I crave that exaggerated mechanical feeling of the weapon to increase the fantasy. Well made cranks, pops, crunches, and tinks are very fun for me. It’s why I prefer guns in games that have some kind of manual action or involved reload animation (with quality sound) to them.

I used to use the Red9 exclusively. Until I found the 5X headshot multiplier on the starting handgun exclusive upgrade to be more ammo efficient.
Bear in mind that the 5x on the handgun applies to melee attacks and to your knife swipe when the handgun is equipped !! Oh and of course... aim for the head ☺

Not bad for a little C96 Mauser Pistol date a great job to the Germans made rifles and pistols.
Resident Evil Logic:
Mauser C96 a gun created in 1895, and has been outdated since WW2. Somehow is the highest damaging pistol in the game.
It’s typically the balance most games give for lower capacity and older stuff. RE did it before with the Nambu in Survivor
