Excellent comparison video! Tactacam is great for filming the general experience, then ShotKam is built for improving your shooting and seeing the "kill shot." Fantastic, Jordan!
I own both models and use both on a regular basis. I also own the Garmin Xero S1 so I’m a bit of technical nerd shooter! I believe a fairer comparison would be to use the zoom mode on the Tactacam as this looks much closer to the Shotcam. The standard or wide angle models give you different zoom perspectives and one should make up the distant issue. Also if you want the controls in an easier location to reach simply turn it over and flip the image in the app.
Using the zoom mode just zooms in the video digitally. I can also do this editing the video and everything just gets pixelated so I do not think thats the fix to get a closer comparison. If anything this would just make the ShotKam image look even better as the image is closer due to the lens that is used. Not zooming in on the sensor.
@@ethanmeade8724 if you want to mount a camera anywhere other then the barrel I'd go with tactacam, they have alot of mounting options. I've been really enjoying their fts setup. Great for long range gun hunting.
I got the ShotKam about a month ago and have been pleased with it. ShotKam has also made many videos about using the product and how to use it to improve your shooting (many of these are on UA-cam). Seems like to improve my shotgun shooting (mostly skeet, 5 stand, and sporting clays) it's a two step process: 1) Knowing how/why I missed and then 2) making the appropriate correction(s). ShotKam really helps with the first step, i.e. instead of wondering where your aim point and shot placement was on a shot, now you know exactly where the miss was. Used to shoot 16-19 for a round of skeet; now I'm consistently in the low 20's. It's plenty pricey but my view was that I would probably have spent about the same on professional instruction to improve to where I am now. Planning to use it for the next few months, then maybe combine it with some instruction/coaching for a synergistic effect. Didn't know about the laser on the ShotKam (though I had noticed the small laser warning label on the housing and wondered why it was there). How did you turn that on (3:20)? Looks like just holding the center button for a certain period of time? I'll have to play around with it tonight when I get home.
Thank you for the comparison video. I am not a skeet or trap shooter. I am long range and want to be able to record directly through a rifle scope, which the ShotKam is not equipped to do. As for on the gun camera recording, my GoPros are doing the duty for me well. Again than you. for you video it helped me make an easy decision easier.
Hi from England. Great video. I’ve just ordered two shotkams as they have £150 off each. Incredible price but priceless when it comes to the information it provides you to improve your game.
The shotcam is really for shotguns, the tactacam is best for a scoped rifle due to the fact u can run it via ur scope with its inverted mirrored mount.
They are different models for the tactacam. And each one has different functions and the ones that have the modes have zoom levels and they are nice to use and also the tactacams you can also use all the gopro mounts if you don't want to use tactacam mounts but tactacam also makes a film through scope mount and which allows you to see your cross hairs along with live view on your phone with the app as well
Correct. This video is more geared towards waterfowl hunting. Thats why I said for deer hunting it may be a different story and more suited for the tactacam. For waterfowl having time to turn a camera on is just not an option.
Outstanding presentation with a clear exposition on the merits of one vs the other. Stuck to the presentation and did not go on tangents as other presenters do. Keep up the great work.
The tactacam works well for scope mounting, I don't like it on the barrel like you noticed. I also like shot cams app better. However tactacam offers more mounting options like FTS, is cheaper and you can set the zoom you desire in a custom mode. Bottom line, if your a deer/turkey hunting, tactacam, if upland game/ waterfowl, go shotcam.
Great video! I have had shotkam since 2017 and have many great waterfowl shot videos! Have used it for sporting clays as well. I agree the app could use some work. I have been considering Tactacam for turkey hunting
Your video was very good. I had never heard of either product last week, but wanted to start recording my hunting shots, so I ordered the Tactacam 5.0 PLUS package which comes with a lot of good accessories, and it costs about what the ShotKam evidently costs with just the under shotgun mount. You video is the first time I have heard of the ShotKam. My hunting is mostly deer or hog with rifle, shotgun, muzzle loader, cross bow, or compound bow (depending on where and when I am hunting). The Tactacam can be mounted on all of those weapons. It also has a FTS (Film Through Scope) adaptor for weapons with scopes. You have clearly shown that you prefer the ShotKam for shooting birds and clays. Do people use the ShotKam for Bow and Rifle hunts? If so how, how for example does the ShotKam compare to the Tactacam 5.0 for a bow hunt?
Great review! I have the Shotkam, never tried the Tactacam both have their place in the way we hunt or shoot. What I can comment on is the Shotkam is bullet proof, waterproof, if you need proof I can show you a few videos of it getting abused by me!!! The Shotkam crew is awesome to work with, any issues/questions you may have will be taken care of quick.
Great video - wish I had seen it before somebody talked me into the bargain tactacam. I just ordered a ShotKam - the bargain will be going on craigslist or ebay soon.
Thanks for this video!! I just realized there was a laser on it 😮. I have own it for two years and did not know. I really love my Shotkam. It helped me improve my shooting by discovering mistakes I was doing. And it is perfect for recording waterfowl hunting. It is worth every dollar invested.
You did a real fine job young man. Well done. I know this was for the Gen 3 Shotkam, but I bought the Gen 4. I sure hope that the mount holds like it's welded...would sure hate to drop that camera into the lake. It was pricey as heck.
I've also just bought the ShotKam Gen.4 (and another for my partner), as it was all about detailed shot analysis, 4k/120fps video quality, and ability to calibrate cross-hairs/dot to the bead of the gun for accurate representation. I also liked the quality aluminium body, battery life, and ease of mounting/dismounting and boxing in a proper protective case with the Gen.4. A lot more than the Tactacam perhaps, but I'm driven by quality and features that will doubtless serve us well for a long period of time.
The tactacam also lost to the triggercam in another review using the view through scope mount... now to find a triggercam vs shotkam review for the final battle.
I would call that an auto power off mode vs a sleep mode as you have to physically push the power button to turn it back on vs just bumping the stock to "wake" the shotkam.
Thank you for the review, EXCELLENT! I, like Montana Gamer was about to pull the trigger on a Tactacam, but will decline not that the ShotKam will for for me either. I'm looking for something to use while hunting hogs. My recommendation is, why don't you do a few hunting videos and lead some of us less technical folks down a road to what cameras are best for hunting other than waterfowl? Just the same a very nice unbiased comparison.
Fantastic video! I appreciate the attention to detail you went into for each camera. Also, may I ask what video editing software you use? This is one of the most well put together and edited videos I have seen in a while. Thanks in advance!
Shotkam comes with a lifesaver. The Shotkam aimpoint is not always aligned with your shot. The reason is because if you sight your bead in at 40 yards and then take a 60 yard shot it will appear you are shooting way to high because the camera is going in straight line. To overcome this make sure that I've sighted sighted the shotkam in for about 70 yards which is the maximum for ground game.
If I was a competitive clay shooter- Shotkam makes sense. However as a deer hunter, I think the tactacam may be a better choice. I think you would want a wider field of view and be able to film from the time you see the deer all the way through the shot. Bumping your weapon is not a practice way to turn on the camera in that scenario. Plus tactacam is about $300 less too for the 5.0 version. I guess it all depends on your intended use
I agree with you there. For waterfowl hunting there is no option but Shotkam as you dont have time to turn it on or push record. For deer hunting the tactacam will do the job.
Wrong- the modes in the SHOTKAM allow for longer record times - so you do not need to pump the weapon. You have CLAY mode , that gives 20 seconds before going into sleep mode, and records 2 seconds before shot and 1 second after shot. FLYING BIRDS mode , that gives 40 seconds before going into sleep mode, and records 3 seconds before shot and 3 second after shot. GROUND GAME , that gives 5 minutes before going into sleep mode, and records 5 seconds before shot and 20 second after shot. This is all in slow motion with less recoil and great video after a bow shot! I don’t pick up my bow and film a deer walking in? I want it seeing what I see when drawing down on the animal to show a clear view of where my hit actually was- not where I think it was- this allows for the proper wait time to recover the animal if it was a less than desirable hit. Plus you can always turn it on with a simple push of the button if needed.
Awesome video. If I had the 600 I would get that Shot Kam lol taticam ain’t bad but like you showed the shot kam ran circles around it. 🤙🏼 I subscribed too
Thank you for the insightful comparison video, great info to make a more informed buying decision so I don't have buyers remorse for the 5th time. I understand this video & product is geared towards waterfowl hunting but I'm just so tired of buying barrel cameras every two years and being very disappointed with the clarity at 40 to 100yd shots in low light evening deer hunts. Come on America it's 2021, make a great barrel cam that doesn't cost $7,000.
EXCELLENT review and presentation! I have just ordered the SHOTKAM. Thumbs up, subscribed and hit the notification bell. You’d be great at reviewing anything…I’d watch you review ladies shoes!
Wish I would have seen this sooner. I just ordered a tacticam, but it looks like the Shotkam is worth the difference in price. I'm gonna send back the Tacticam.
I have liked your videos that I have watched. I would like to see what you think of the Mantis X10 Elite system. The shotgun system app is somewhat new, but Trap is what I am mainly interested in. The system works on pistol and rifle also with live and not live fire. Thanks I looked at both the Tactical and ShotKam and have had my ShotKam for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it. ShotKam support is exceptional also. Thanks.
Thank Steve! I can’t really make a comment as I have not tried it out. I do think it is interesting and would be interesting to see how it would compare on a shotgun.
Great video man. I’m torn at the moment. Depending on your type of hunting the tactacam may be better. If you’re shouting ducks at 15-25 yards it’s going to be super zoomed with the shotkam. Thoughts?
Thank you! We usually get ducks at about 30 yards hunting on the bay. The Gopro head cam will capture the wide angle but the shotkam will be able to capture the hit or the miss and allow me to show why I missed the bird. I will be using the shotkam on my hunts.
There wasn’t any discussion on audio. Does either capture any audio other than the gun firing? For hunts it would be interesting to capture any conversations in a duck blind or after the shot.
Excellent Video! The Shotkam is definitely the Winner. Now the 6 million dollar question. Do you feel that the Shotkam made you a better shot? I'm in my first year of Trap shooting and have a 17 average. I'm considering buying a Shotkam.
It absolutely has! Being able to check the shot and see why you missed and correct it has been a huge help. It is well worth it and I strongly recommend.
If the Shotkam is activated by a shot, aren't you missing video of the first thing you shoot at? In other words if I shoot at a duck the camera wont come on until the duck is already shot.
Very good video! Thanks. You did not talk about replacing the batteries. It is quite a while I am thinking to order a Shotkam but beside its high price, returning it back to manufacturer for battery replacement stop me from ordering. I am waiting for them to fix this battery replacement issue.
@@samsamk9750 how often do you change battery on your cellphone? You can have another replaceable battery camera, but never get the quality results in your videos... really what matters? Battery or video result and all automations it offers....by the way,I bought it May 2018...still on same battery,
Does the ShotKam film thru a scope like the Tactacam?? This is an area where camera makers have to get on the ball!!! Aside from the TactaCam the only other cameras that can film thru a scope are a GoPro or the FireFly 8 using either the Eagle Vision or Side Shot systems. Someone for the love of god make a QUALITY action camera to film thru scopes with a high resolution, high speed video camera
would the shotkam mount work on a tactacam if you mounted the tactacam with the buttons on the downside, the shot kam mount is much more streamlined than the tactacam mounts
Thank you for the review! I like the features of the ShotKam over the Tactacam. I would be using a system like this with a rifle mainly. Have you tried to mount the ShotKam to a rifle scope with the FTS mount from Tactacam? Long shot but just curious. Thanks.
Hi Jordan, thanks for the great review! I have one question concerning the ShotKam. Is it possible to live view over wi-fi!? Would be good when target shooting with my son. I'd appreciate your help! Thanks and keep up the good work.
Yes this is possible however it does reduce the frame rate. You can go back and watch the shots after being taken over wifi on any smart phone. This allows you to see where shots are missed while you are out in the field. Thank you!
Hi man! I'm writing from Italy. Great comparison video. I have some questions please: This product are almost absent in Italy. I want buy one of this camera for my hunting experience in Sweden on August (partridges and grouse ) and for my abitual hunting: woodcock with dogs. What do you suggest me? I understand that Shotkam is better than Tactacam, but, for my hunting with shoot closer (from 6-7 meters to 15 ) is it necessary, according to you, to spend around 300 euros more (i'm a student) tu buy Shotkam? If you want a clearer idea, you can see my video on UA-cam at 7:10... Than, Tactacam has red point like Shotkam or not? I don't understand.. Thank you and sorry for my english and my lenght...
Shotkam ships internationally. They both have a red dot but shotkam allows you to change it to the reticle if you choose that. It is up to you what you think would work best for your situation. Do you have enough time to push the power button, switch the safety off, mount the gun and pull the trigger?
I think the 12ga attachment is a little to large but they do make attachments for a .410 that is probably pretty close to the 30-06. They have great customer service, give them a call and ask them what they think. @ShotKam
Is there a zoom lens that can be mounted on either of these cameras? The videos you take while mountain hunting with rifle need to have zoom lenses. Otherwisw you don't see the game you shoot at. I will appreciate your answer.
I wouldn’t call that a sleep mode. That’s more like an auto power off mode since you manually have to push the button to turn it back on. It’s no different than powering the tactacam on if it was turned off.
@@EveryDayLimits Since the camera starts recording a few seconds after turning off I think it would be very similar to sleep mode.... The same could be said if you don't "hit your stock" on the shotKam. It still won't record. While your comparison is very good I think you are missing some important facts that should be mentioned when comparing the two. #1 mount the tactacam mount towards the lens not the rear, puts pressure on the back cap and can cause the cap to come off. #2 The Tactacam has a remote option that allows you to not only turn on the Tactacam 5.0 but any synced 5.0 wides that are around. Shotkam doesn't offer this... For example I run the remote that turns on/off 4 hunters Tactacam 5.0. #3 The battery life for the Tactacam is if it runs continuously, one of the benefits of the Tactacam 5.0 is it doesn't need to run continuously. It is powered off until the birds are close or working then powered on, records the kill shot, then powered back off. I recorded 22 duck hunts last year and never had to replace my Tactacam battery because they are not on continuously. #4 Tactacam 5.0 gives you the option to do more than just duck hunt. There are bow mounts as well as Film Through Scope using the same camera. So the $300 camera can be used for literally any style of hunting. While your review is about trap shooting it is worth mentioning when comparing the 2. #5 The benefit to being able to quickly change your settings (green, blue, cyan settings) on your tactacam 5.0 is for when there is low light situations. For example at first light you would want less frames per second, more frames per second makes the video darker. And as the sun rises you can quickly change to a higher frame per second to get better slow motion. All in all I think you did a good comparison, just some things to think about that should be considered when spending this kind of money. Tactacam all the way.
@@TripleRwoods I'm guessing you never used a ShotKam. I have used both and the ShotKam is hands down the best camera between the two. The one and only advantage to the Tactacam is the ability to record without firing a shot, other than that, there are no other advantages.
@@TripleRwoods After some thought, I'll admit that the Tactacam also has the advantage of better audio, not good audio but better than the Shotkam's. The FTS is definitely something that will expand the use of the Tactacam as well. As for the Tactacam shotgun mount, not a fan. The ShotKam has a very secure clamp to keep the camera in place. The Tactacam needs a better barrel mount, regardless of where you set the clamp on the camera. Their mount needs improved. Yes, Tactacam does have a variety of mounts for other weapons, but the shotgun mount isn't very good. The power on/off switch is easier to reach with the Shotkam. The ability to bump the stock really helps activate the camera and is much faster. That really comes in handy for bird hunting situations. Yes, you can turn on the Tactacam as birds work, Bumping the stock really comes in handy for, doves, pheasants, waterfowl when shot opportunities appear quickly The ShotKam self adjusts to light changes. I've got several early morning /late afternoon clips with the ShotKam. The auto white balance is needed when the camera goes from pointing at the ground to a bright sky. If it's too dark for the ShotKam, it isn't legal shooting light. I've watched lots of Tactacam shotgun footage on UA-cam. There are lots of videos showing it in use. I have to say, I'm not really impressed with any if it. Yes it is decent and you'll get shots on camera, but in a side by side comparison, the ShotKam footage is better by far.

🤙🏼 I subscribed too
Thank you! I thought the results were pretty clear as well.
Every Day Limits most definitely
Thank you for the insightful comparison video, great info to make a more informed buying decision so I don't have buyers remorse for the 5th time. I understand this video & product is geared towards waterfowl hunting but I'm just so tired of buying barrel cameras every two years and being very disappointed with the clarity at 40 to 100yd shots in low light evening deer hunts. Come on America it's 2021, make a great barrel cam that doesn't cost $7,000.
Thanks for watching. I do not think you will be disappointed with the shotkam.
Doesn't the barrel of the shotgun get in the way of seeing the charging indicator on the Tactacam?
EXCELLENT review and presentation!
I have just ordered the SHOTKAM.
Thumbs up, subscribed and hit the notification bell.
You’d be great at reviewing anything…I’d watch you review ladies shoes!
Awesome! Thank you!
Wish I would have seen this sooner. I just ordered a tacticam, but it looks like the Shotkam is worth the difference in price. I'm gonna send back the Tacticam.
Glad I could help
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I have liked your videos that I have watched. I would like to see what you think of the Mantis X10 Elite system. The shotgun system app is somewhat new, but Trap is what I am mainly interested in. The system works on pistol and rifle also with live and not live fire. Thanks
I looked at both the Tactical and ShotKam and have had my ShotKam for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it. ShotKam support is exceptional also. Thanks.
Thank Steve! I can’t really make a comment as I have not tried it out. I do think it is interesting and would be interesting to see how it would compare on a shotgun.
Great Review
Thank you!
No- SHOTKAM is bad ass at that distance I have a ton of great videos from it!
Great video !👍
Thank you! 👍
There wasn’t any discussion on audio. Does either capture any audio other than the gun firing? For hunts it would be interesting to capture any conversations in a duck blind or after the shot.
Yes, you can hear what the audio sounds like in the shots however with it being slowed down its not as understandable if someone was talking
ShotKam!!!
Great info! I subbed.
Awesome, thank you!
Best video thanks.
Thank you! Make sure you subscribe to see plenty more videos with it this season.
Can you turn off all water marks and reticle / cross hairs on the ShotKam? Thanks!
Yes, there is an option for that. Its all in the settings.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent Video!
Battery gets charged not replaced. If there is an issue shotkam will replace it
I know that. the point is sending to them to replace it for you. You cannot do it yourself.@@EveryDayLimits
Battery replacement is necessary after 3-4 years...if you still think it is an issue....
Of course it is! That is what has stopped me to order. It is a big design issue for such a price.
Good video.
Glad you enjoyed it
would the shotkam mount work on a tactacam if you mounted the tactacam with the buttons on the downside, the shot kam mount is much more streamlined than the tactacam mounts
It looks like the Shotkam is gen 3? I think the gen 4 has higher resolutions, longer battery life, et al.
Yup I did a review on the gen 4 as well
What gen shot jam was this (3 yrs ago)? And any thoughts on the gen 3 vs. newer Gen 4?
Nice comparison. Has anyone use the shotkam for Upland bird hunting over pointing dogs?
Im sure there has been if you search on youtube
Great video! Does he weight of the camera make your barrels top-heavy?
My gun has a counterbalance so it is still very well balanced with the shotkam
Thank you for the review! I like the features of the ShotKam over the Tactacam. I would be using a system like this with a rifle mainly. Have you tried to mount the ShotKam to a rifle scope with the FTS mount from Tactacam? Long shot but just curious. Thanks.
I have not but that is a good question
Hi Jordan, thanks for the great review! I have one question concerning the ShotKam. Is it possible to live view over wi-fi!? Would be good when target shooting with my son. I'd appreciate your help! Thanks and keep up the good work.
Yes this is possible however it does reduce the frame rate. You can go back and watch the shots after being taken over wifi on any smart phone. This allows you to see where shots are missed while you are out in the field. Thank you!
The better image quality in the ShotKam is due to higher quality glass.
Nice video. If you use an over/under will closing do the same a bumping the stock?
Yes it will, you can change this in the settings
Hi man! I'm writing from Italy.
Great comparison video.
I have some questions please:
This product are almost absent in Italy. I want buy one of this camera for my hunting experience in Sweden on August (partridges and grouse
) and for my abitual hunting: woodcock with dogs. What do you suggest me? I understand that Shotkam is better than Tactacam, but, for my hunting with shoot closer (from 6-7 meters to 15
) is it necessary, according to you, to spend around 300 euros more (i'm a student) tu buy Shotkam? If you want a clearer idea, you can see my video on UA-cam at 7:10...
Than, Tactacam has red point like Shotkam or not? I don't understand..
Thank you and sorry for my english and my lenght...
Shotkam ships internationally. They both have a red dot but shotkam allows you to change it to the reticle if you choose that. It is up to you what you think would work best for your situation. Do you have enough time to push the power button, switch the safety off, mount the gun and pull the trigger?
Can you use the shotkam on a crossbow?
Compound yes but i dont think a crossbow.
what about low light like when duck hunting?
check out my shotkam compilation. Lots of low light duck hunting footage in there
Wondering if the Shotkam will work in the FTS Tactacam mount?
Why would you not just use the shotkam mount?
@@EveryDayLimits Because the FTS mount gives you magnification adjustment and the reticle your scope uses in the video.
is there a lasermodul on the shotkam and how can i turn it on and use it
Yes there is. Hold the power button down for 5-7 seconds
Jordan, how do you get the ShotKam to play in slow motion or stop frame to view your misses? I just got one and I'm still learning
Can I use the ShotKam on my Browning Zenith 30.06 riffle? I meen...does it have the attachment for the riffle?
I think the 12ga attachment is a little to large but they do make attachments for a .410 that is probably pretty close to the 30-06. They have great customer service, give them a call and ask them what they think. @ShotKam
If u run a scope the tactacam will be the way to go
Is it possible to remove the reticle from the video if I didn't want it in a UA-cam video?
Yes you can, There are also many different reticle options but you can remove it completely as you want to do.
Tactacam Sucks. End of story
Is there a zoom lens that can be mounted on either of these cameras? The videos you take while mountain hunting with rifle need to have zoom lenses. Otherwisw you don't see the game you shoot at. I will appreciate your answer.
There are scope mounts
Agree! Tactacam has poor video quality, especially in low light.
What's better for not mounting on the gun?. I want to mount this at the target itself from the Sideview while shooting
I feel like you would want a wider field of view like a GoPro. Watch some of my hunts and you can see the view the GoPro is able to capture.
@@EveryDayLimits I wanted something that connects to a smartphone and be able to control it through an app...
@@hightidelowtide6380 Yes you can
@@EveryDayLimits I was unaware of that. Thanks
I missed it, does showcase has a zoom in feature? For rifles and longer shots?
There is no zoom feature but the lens on the shotkam actually makes the image appear closer then on the tactacam as you can see from this video.
This guy has been asked to give the shot kam a good review
By who? This is an honest review of the shotkam from my experiences with it. I was not compensated for this review or told what to say.
@@EveryDayLimits ok
Is it good to buy a Tactacam 5.0 on Bass Pro Shop website???
I dont see why not.
@@EveryDayLimits ok. I bought it.! Thanks for the answer.
How do you turn on the Lazer on the shotKam? Thanks
Hold the power button down for 10 seconds.
@@EveryDayLimits Great Thanks .
Tactacam has sleep mode after 3 minutes of no recording...
@@Windwalker_Outdoors I just listed 4 or 5 reasons above.... I'm not knocking Shotkam... as I have already stated. But Thanks for the heads up...
Yes, you can turn on the Tactacam as birds work, Bumping the stock really comes in handy for, doves, pheasants, waterfowl when shot opportunities appear quickly
The ShotKam self adjusts to light changes.
Good video. Congratulations. A query, what do you mean when you say ShotKam = laser=Yes, Tactacam = No. Thanks.
The shotkam has a laser on it that you can turn on and off
@@EveryDayLimits Okay. But what is this laser for? IF the Tactacam doesn't have it, is it less accurate? Thanks.
@@justovelarde3456 It does not make it more accurate but it is an extra feature. I have used it when practicing shouldering the gun.
How do you turn the laser on?
Where can I get one for $50 oFF?
If you send shotkam an email they will provide you a discount code
Or use the code youtube
