- Here in Minneapolis you can always count on seeing action at Northtown Yard. The St. Anthony Parkway bridge is a popular spot for local rail fans. The Soo's main line also crosses Northtown Yard at this spot. Here is one of my favorite video clips shot at this famous Twin Cities location. Lots of action in this one!
The classic Burlington Northern paint scheme with the black roofs. This yard was a great choice, not only because of train frequency, but it's just neat to watch these big engines and trains thread the switches.
Love the old BN units, SD9's are a favorite. Love the yard action!
Bob, My MAAAAANN..... you did it this time. Brought back many, many memories from my days in the Twin Cities. ALL good memories. Some memories are not quite so good that is one of the reasons that I am living in West Virginia now (MY family home, not hers). Loved cruising the rails back in those days.... Here we have two trains a day pull slowly though (CSX) maybe three IF we are lucky. Thanks a million.....
AT 5:33 it looks like an HO Scale Model.... actually at many points it does.... Fantastic Footage Man! ... I'd give anything to see a few U33C's and SD40's roaring up mountian grades again.... I have been to the Tehachapi Loop.... Sand Patch, Horseshoe Curve and a few other Mountain grades....... As I mentioned, you will never forget the roaring sound of these locomotives ... Today's Wide Cabs and SD70's and alike really are rather dull and sound terrible compared to the locomotives of the 1970s and 1980's..... Thank goodness for footage like this..... Kids today would never know how good it was back then without footage like this...but nothing beat it in person... The video only offers 50% of the magic......
Amazing!!!!!!!!! The SOO LINE & BN are 2 of my most Favorite Railroads....... Great Footage!! I miss the 1980's Man..... I wish Railroading was still this fantastic... It sucks today! Sorry, but I am not as big of a railfan now as I was back in the 1980's.... Nothing in this world beats 4 or 6 or 12 SD40's on a train roaring up grade on notch 8 at 20MPH.... The SOUND!!!!! WOW!!!!! A++++
Great audio, straight from the heart of the engine!
Ahhhh! Great sounds SD40-2s and Dash 7s!
40-2s, c-30-7s,and sd9s oh my!! good video of the good ol days.
Today it's BNSF & the CP Rail System. Thanks a lot for posting.
Amazing footage! It's apparent that a lot of things has changed in this area since 1989.
Excellent footage of the SOO LINE & BN thanks for sharing !
I love the Burlington Northern trains. There cool. At the same year, they were BN trains in Nebraska with Union Pacific trains.
LOVELY ACTION IN THE YARD PLUS UNKNOWN YARDGOATS
I can definitely tell this is an old video. The cars aren't covered with graffiti.
fantastic video!
Love them old green/white BN. GE U 330Cs. Pushn them filled coal cars back. Their sound is so strong, almost sounds like my 1951 John Deere A tractors, more please, more, 💪🤠😁👍👍
The PTLX covered hoppers with the Lauhoff have have the signs removed and they have been repainted.
Cascade Green had several variations.
The tanker at 4:22 .... what year was that built?
This is a few years pre-Warren Buffet purchase. Now of course it's BNSF.
END OF THE 1990S things CHANGED!! BN WAS NOW BNSF NOR MORE SD9"S NO MORE GP9"S NO MORE SOO!! SO MERGED INTO CP!
seem like after 94 it all became the same train. used to we would say "ahh shit just another 40-2 consist" now I miss em.
I WISH THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN!! I MISS HEARING THE ROAR OF 567'S ENGINES!
Who votes on bringing back the old narrow standard cab diesels, SOO Line Diesels, & GP9/SD9 and leave today’s GEVO locomotives scrapped for good
Burlington Northern locomotives in the classic, original BN paint scheme. I didn't like the Whiteface units.
