- In August 1985 I was fortunate to be able to ride in the cab of one of the last Soo 940 trains to use the old double main Withrow sub to Chicago route. In a few days these Chicago through trains will by-pass this historic route at University Ave. Here is part 1. Enjoy!
Well Bob, this video explains where you found inspiration for that great SOO Line layout of yours😀 thanks for sharing this ride with us.
4:00 used to live near that railroad until 2019. Loved railfanning and insulator hunting there.
Great video! Definitely the good old days of railroading and the employees
Thanks for posting. I grew up in Crystal and spent a lot of time at Humboldt and eastwards watching Geeps push grain drags up that hill from there. I always thought the wye on the Mississippi River bridge was so cool too. Those EMDs would be screaming when they hit New Brighton. Great that you caught all that Bob- very happy memories for me.
Boy am I familiar with that first location on the east side of Humboldt yard. When Soo Line did actual flat-yard switching at Humboldt this was a great spot on a hot day. I’ve always had this hope that someday the gigantic Soo Line dollar sign logo would be restored on the huge collection elevator on the north side of the yard.
Be nice if the Canadian Pacific brought back the Soo Line name On the new ES 44 gevos. And there engines Canadian Pacific Repainted. Wish it was still the Soo Line
They should do a heritage unit don't know if cp has any.
I didn't think those existed back then. Always thought they were something from the past tens years or so.
Fantastic video! Thanks
Very nice footage!
How very fun!!! Great history.
No horn at the crossings?
Yes. NE Minneapolis has always had a no horn ordinance.
