    I have actually heard similar criticisms of Britain by Muslims from Muslim countries: That we are particularly vulnerable to Islamism, because we don't understand Islam, and we're overly worried about being politically correct. It shows that he is an assiduous non-reader of policy research. It shows that he still clings to the disproven idea that poverty is a behavioural problem. It shows that he lacks the sociological imagination.

    I highly value Andrew Marr’s views, but I think he is wrong in his valuation of the role of a ‘leader’. He underestimates the importance of charisma. Have you ever watched how a ‘bully’ acts? Back at primary school, where some boys (yes, they are male almost all the time!) have a natural ability to set up people against others, to make them do things they would otherwise never have done. This is not confined to the playing ground in primary schools, I ‘ve seen it happening everywhere, even among elderly people who should know better.
    Yes, removing Trump from the political scene would vacate a position for some other would-be authoritarian, but almost certainly not someone with the same appeal. If Adolf Hitler had been killed in he early ‘30’s, the nazi movement had desintegrated very quickly, as there were many ‘successors’ but no one with the same combination of manipulating powers.

He’s primarily a businessman (or more accurately, confidence man) and doesn’t deal in concepts like “Trust”.- Trust is for chumps.
      He prefers to have people in his pocket than on his side, and people who will sell out all their principles and beliefs for power are exactly the people that Trump understands best.

It's a lazy argument to respond with 'Trump hasn't murdered millions of people therefore there can be no comparison'. Hitler's path to power, his (almost messianic) hold over his followers, the drivers behind that rise to power (Inflation, unemployment, perceived threat to livelihood from immigrants and others, hatred of liberalism, socialism and diversity), disrespect for political and even legal norms, are some of the areas where a comparison can be made. • @billder2655
      @billder2655 Місяць тому +4

      I googled it and it seems there’s a couple of origins for the name Holroyd.
      There’s a Holerode in Sussex recorded in the 13th century, but it also seems that Holroyd is the anglicised spelling of the Irish Ó hAilcheartaidh, or ‘descendant of Ailcheartach’. The English Holroyd is anglo-saxon and is a habitational name meaning ‘hollow and clearing’.
      Holyrood, however, seems to mean ‘holy cross’, or ‘holy rod’, in reference to a relic known as the True Cross, a supposed fragment of the cross which Christ was crucified on. The surname Holyrood would therefore be a habitational name referring to someone who lives near either the abbey of Holyrood in Ireland or the palace of Holyrood in Scotland. Either way, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious connection between Holroyd and Holyrood.

    Andrew Marr does not have one idea how Trump thinks, why did he pick Vance it’s obvious, keep your friends close but your past enemies who can win him votes in swing states closer. If Trump wins he will speak nicely to Lammy but will he trust a far left politician from the UK, never. Starmer made a poor choice in what is becoming a more conservative USA and Europe.

    Surprised by the confusion, it was an obvious reference to the labour subservience to the pro gaza islamists - right or wrong that is the perception - clearly something to consider

    • @kicorse
      @kicorse Місяць тому +7

      It would be an even more ridiculous claim in that case, because Labour have if anything erred on the side of being apologists for Israel's actions in Gaza. Of course extremists on both sides won't like their attempt at a balanced position, but they actually lost several seats to independents at the general election due to the perception that they were too pro-Israel. The claim that a major UK political party is being controlled by pro-Israel extremists would rightly be condemned as anti-Semitic - the conspiracy theory you appear to support is even more absurd and more vile.

    Andrew Marr dont be so rude about JDVance kissing Trumps ring. That was highly insulting and not true. Trump is a good man and been subject to lies about him. Youre adding to those lies by the way you talk about him. Shame on you Andrew Marr. Grrrrr

      A good man who has been a systematic fraudster in his business dealings and has a criminal conviction for his crimes. A good man who has cheated on every partner he has had, and paid hush money to one of the women he cheated with. A good man who was involved in an insurrection which had the express intention of overthrowing a democratically elected leader. A good man who pressurised election officials to falsify election results because he had lost the state election. A good man who stole confidential and highly secret government documents and for all we know may have sold state secrets to the enemies of America.
      No, he isn't a good man. He is evil to the core and should rot in jail for the rest of his life for his crimes.

    These two are hilarious from the land of Brexit. For the English to discuss anything politically in the U.S. is pure stupidity. Trump isn’t a ‘messiah.’ He’s the better option than Biden. Biden, a man who wouldn’t qualify for a driver’s license. And, yes, we want out of NATO.

      I agree Biden is very old and his capability to actually be president, let alone campaign, is in question.
      But genuine question from a brt, do you believe right now Trump or Biden is the legitimate president, and do you support Truml's plan of certifying and counting alternate electors in states that voted Democrat with suspected but disproven mass voter fraud, resulting Trump winning the election?
