- People from all over the world descended upon Grant Park in Chicago on July 22, 2017 to meet other players and catch some rare Pokémon. The much hyped event, which had fans excited to participate in, ultimately turned out to be a complete disaster. We were there to experience it all from the early rainy morning waiting in line to the hot, muddy mess later in the afternoon.

FYI I play the game because it gets me outside, exercising, and visiting new places. I'll be the first to admit it's a stupid and broken game, but it's given me a routine and a schedule and helped ease my depression. Anything that gets people out of the house, exercising, socializing, exploring their surroundings should be lauded very highly! It is rare these days.

Although I don't play Pokémon Go, it would have fun to just be there. It's fun talking with people that play the game because they ones I've met are down to Earth and because you're around other game players.
I spent Sunday playing all over the city and met so many awesome people from San Fran, Nebraska, Canada. It was so much fun!

Offering free Lugia to everyone who went was the biggest fuck you to everyone who couldn't go. It's like a 2% catch rate for everyone else, but everyone in Chicago got like 5 or 6 because Niantic fucked up.

In contrary, offering them the Lucia was a way to tell those players that they are sorry for what happened at the festival. Be glad that unlike them, you get to try and catch a Lucia *for free* whereas some of them had to pay more than a hundred dollars to get in. Also Niantic didn't fuck up. Verizon and ATnT did. They didn't heed the warnings and they fucked Niantic over.

The idea of pokemon go was a very ingenious one... Genuinely fantastic... Bat sometimes people just can't handle the goodness and modern ideas.... Or maybe the servers can't. But in general it could've been one of the best games in history if implemented properly..

Ikr. I stopped playing like a week after the release. I live in the country, so you get crappy Pokémon instead of the ones in cities. I was barely finding any Pokémon, 2 a day if I was lucky. I just quit. It got boring quickly.

I stopped playing this when I realized 300 pound kids were spoofing GPS from mommy's basement to catch whatever they wanted.
They have since pretty much fixed all spoofers. Almost no one can do it anymore.

I was one of the attenders of this event, and I can say I actually had a good time. Despite the servers and angry 65 year old men. Niantic still tried, and I applaud them for their effort and the fact that they put up with the hate.
Was go fest a disaster? Well yeah. Did I have a disaster of a experience? No.
The music is so fitting for all of the anxiety everyone felt that day haha. I still remember trying to catch Heracross and needing my friends to try all of their devices just so I could sign in and get ONE! That day was a nightmare.

The only reason the servers crashed is because 20,000 people all in one place overloaded the cell towers and the servers.

it was obvious they wanted everyone at pokemon go fest happy, unlike last time. thats a lot of people on one server, and having a free legendary, badge, and $100 in pokecoins is a lot. i didn't go, but it really makes me feel like the company actually kinda cares for everyone.
The rest areas look fun to be in. Just sit on a bean bag, pull out Pokémon Sun and just ride the waves out.
