Firstly, Get a Grip is a fine album! Secondly, Martin and Pete, thanks for another fantastic year of these shows! We are all aficionados of a fine art here and these witty and informative discussions really back that up. And if anybody hasn't checked it out yet, Martin's History in Five Songs podcast is top notch stuff! Anyway I'd like to wish Pete, Martin and everyone who follows this show a very merry Christmas!!!

Great show gentlemen! I like the Get a Grip album as well, I saw them on that tour, one of the loudest concerts I had ever been too, only Motorhead were louder, and I've seen Slayer twice. lol Merry Christmas and Happy New Year All!
My top 10 10. Fly away from here 9. Jaded 8. Falling in love is so hard on the knees 7. Cryin' 6. Crazy 5. Hole in my soul 4. I don't want to miss a thing 3. Eat the rich 2. Living on the edge 1. Amazing
1. Livin’ On The Edge 2. Falling In Love(Is Hard On The Knees) 3. Eat The Rich 4. Nine Lives 5. Oh Yeah 6. Jaded 7. Attitude Adjustment 8. Trip Hoppin’ 9. Something’s Gotta Give 10. Line Up
My favorites: #1. Eat The Rich #2. Living On The Edge #3. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing #4. Shut Up And Dance #5. What Kind Of Love Are You On? #6. Cryin' #7. Jaded #8. Get A Grip #9. Crazy #10. Pink Get A Grip is my all time favorite Aerosmith album. Eat The Rich is my favorite song of all time because somebody burps at the end.
I don't know how much you guys are willing to subject yourself to for our entertainment, but the obvious sequel to this episode is "Top 10 post 1987 Def Leppard songs" Heck, Martin practically teases the concept a couple of times.
Post '90 Aerosmith; 'Get a Grip', 'Flesh', 'Gotta Love It', 'Fever', 'Attitude Adjustment', 'Something's Gotta Give', 'Jaded', 'Oh Yeah', 'Beautiful', 'Out Go the Lights'...
I'd really have to go back and listen to those couple of albums. The only song I really like from this era is Livin' On The Edge. There may be a couple of tracks that aren't bad, but nothing that I would regularly visit. Others: Eat The Rich, Walk On Down, Cryin, Jaded, Pink, Falling In Love... I really only remember most of the tracks from Get A Grip and the lead singles from the other releases.
Interesting show, will have to check some of these out. I largely gave up after Get A Grip so couldn't list 10. Did quite like Honkin' though. I think a lot of the old blues men did indeed wear suits though. Hope you both gave a great Christmas and rest.
I'm commenting before watching this and I'm not sure if I can come up with ten. I like most of Get A Grip, but not much else. There's a song called "Line Up" on that one that I've always really liked. Later edit: Cool, Martin picked "Line Up."
Out Go The Lights is very cool. A bit surprised nobody ever seems to talk about it. I am not so much into Street Jesus but cool that you are. I feel that later day Aerosmith or music in general get lumped together as something negative when some of it actually is good!
I may be the only one, but i actually love Just Push Play lol by far my favorite album from this era....as for my 10 songs, in no order Eat the Rich Get A Grip Fever Living On the Edge Full Circle Crash Just Push Play Jaded Luv Lies Light Inside
I remember Lonn Friend saying on headbangers ball that walk on down from Get a Grip was the first ever Perry sang song. I guess he knew nothing whatsoever about the band.
“You got the right key baby but the wrong key hole” Get A Grip and Nine Lives are both excellent. The lyrics alone display an excess of creativity and humor. Great energy… “Ain’t That A Bitch” is a master class of a song. Bands that evolve > bands that retread and stay in their safety zone
Even if I don't always agree w/ either Martin or Pete, because of their passion for the bands and the music, I always respect their opinions, and look forward to Fridays, and truly enjoy listening to them articulate their thoughts👍... Guess I'll have to give some latter day Aersomith a shot... Great show!!!
Honestly I'd argue the entirety of Get a Grip was great, ans can hold up with Permanent and Pump, Nine Lives had a few good songs here and there, Jaded and Pink are pretty fun as well. They're not the best band in the world across generations by all means, but man did they have their moments. My 10 post 90's songs Fever Eat the Rich Flesh I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing Pink Jaded Cryin' Crazy Fly Away From Here Livin' on the Edge
I think the success they had with 'Cryin' and 'I don't want to miss a thing' ruined this band because I think it encouraged the record companies, people around them etc wanting to turn them into a soft rock/pop band and generate more 'hits'. Much like the trajectory with Def Leppard as Popoff mentioned.
Aerosmith is one of my all time favorite bands, IMO there are some great songs post 1990. Here’s my top 10 1. Eat the Rich 2. Fever 3. Shut up and dance 4. Line up 5. Get a Grip 6. Livin’ on the edge 7. Walk on water 8. Flesh 9. Legendary Child 10. Falling in love (is hard on the knees)
My dudes🤘!, Happy Holidays to you both and your families!! Great to see you all today. 82 here in Arizona today. Record temps. Post "Get a Grip" era Aerosmith I really lost interest. Too many ballads, not enough to rockers.
Art vs Craft Craft is the result of what you can consciously control. Hard work, effort, sobriety, discipline, etc… Art you can’t control. It’s inspired and either you are gifted with it at one particular moment or you are not. Appreciate Aerosmith for respecting their fans and not settling in terms of craft. But at that point the art was simply not there anymore.
My second favorite band of all time (1973-1982) I do like SOME of the 80's stuff, but as much as I love the band I am hard pressed to list 10 songs post 1990. Really their worst era in my opinion 1. Jaded 2. Crying 3. Taste of India 4. Eat the Rich 5. Crazy 6. Pink Thats IT! and that was hard! Most of this era is really bad IMO
You can say what you like about "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing", but I think it's a wonderful song, even if there are better Aerosmith tracks. Is it commercial? Yes. Is it cheesy? Well, yeah. What always struck me about that song is that it was written by a woman who usually writes pop and big ballads, which is the total opposite of what Aerosmith is all about, but here's the thing: Steven Tyler was such a great singer and made the song his own. I think the status quo for a rock band is to write their own material, but in some cases it's not about that. Elvis or Joe Cocker became big because they were fantastic singers who you believed every word they sang, and while Tyler obviously wrote most of his own stuff, you could feel the emotion in "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing". And come on, his lovely daughter was in the movie, so at least you can appreciate the music video. 😉
Aerosmith har become one of the bands I can't listen to anymore. I liked them when I was 13-14 around 1990 but not anymore at all. I think the only few songs I maybe kind of like will be Eat the Rich and Janie's got a gun.
Post 1990 they lost their importance. But you forgot the great albums of the 80s. Done with mirrors, Permanent vacation and Pump. There's the cream of the crop
i understand liking a certain kind of song, but don't you want a band or singer to try new and exciting things for growth. can you imagine doing the same kind of song year in and year out. they'd be bored beyond belief. let the band grow!!
For me Aerosmith's best would need to include a bunch of tunes from Rocks (IMO by far their best album). A few from the debut & Wings, several from Toys, and then it's a kind of 'pick 'em' from there. So here we're restricting things to post-1990. Pete nails it with "it's almost easier to pick my 10 favorite songs from the more recent era...than from the classic era" - except I'd remove the word "almost". No contest, the older stuff rules. So for me in a way this is harder in that there's less to choose from but that also makes it easier I guess - no need to exclude really good/classic/older tracks in order to keep the list to 10 total... My stab at it (kinda in chrono order): Amazing - started getting a little tired of it back when due to the airplay but since I no longer listen to music radio...Good tune Taste Of India - probably a 'dark horse' pick Something's Gotta Give - ditto Fallen Angels - ditto ditto. Maybe I like Nine Lives more than many... Jaded - again once away from FM radio the occasional listen works well Girls Of Summer - 2002 single Sedona Sunrise - cheating a bit with this one, this was on the 2006 best of Devil's Got a New Disguise but originated in some 1989 recording sessions. Good tune! Sunny Side Of Love Street Jesus I'm Not Talkin' - yes the Yardbirds tune. Again like with Nine Lives I might like Music From Another Dimension! more than many... Other good Aerosmith 'stuff' post-1990: Millennium Countdown 2000 (live boot from Osaka), MTV Unplugged (2000-this is Excellent!), and Rocks Donigton 2014. Also several collections, some that contain a few random unreleased tracks
1. Livin on the Edge 2. Amazing 3. Eat the Rich 4. What Kind of Love Are You On 5. Taste of India 6. Gotta Love It 7. Beyond Beautiful 8. You Gotta Move 9. Fever 10. Legendary Child
Guilty :pleasure: I like Aerosmith's Post 1990 ballads... more than the rock songs from that same era... #1. Living On The Edge #2.Crazy #3. Eat The Rich #4. Amazing #5. Get A Grip #6. Cryin' #7. Shut Up And Dance #8. Girls of Summer #9. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing #10. Pink
But i will say i hate Living on the edge. Cant believe its the same band that played sweet emotion, lord of the thighs, rats in the cellar , ect. Something went terribly wrong . Lol
Just barely. With 11 I honestly would've been in trouble - I did 'cheat' a little with "Sedona Sunrise" (originated in '89 but unreleased until 2006) & one cover: the Yardbirds' "I'm Not Talkin'"
Their greatest album is Rocks and Draw the Line is their last great album. 80's and 90s Aerosmith makes me want to puke the same way Van GINA era makes me want to puke. Upon hearing the first notes I turn it off.

That Big Ones comp was always on rotation in the 90s. I like the hits. Catchy songs

lol, this kindda reminds me of the old, old Joke: I just bought the best of Kansas. Best 45 ever! :>) Love you guys!!

We need top 10 harmonica songs.
Aerosmith went from Rock to pop !
This should be interesting 🤔
Get a Grip is a brilliant album, Fever totally bangs and Steven Tyler blows a mean blues harp!
Can't stop messin
Get A Grip is easily part of any classic era. Nine Lives is one that grows on you.
I haven’t genuinely loved a single Aerosmith song post-Draw The Line.
family tree bands?

Damn forgot Livin on the Edge, GREAT song
You can say what you like about "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing", but I think it's a wonderful song, even if there are better Aerosmith tracks. Is it commercial? Yes. Is it cheesy? Well, yeah. Walk on Water
Nine Lives

Attitude Adjustment

Agreed with everything you said during this entire program. That Honkin’ on Bobo was just overproduced garbage
the disrespect for hysteria on this channel chaps my dirt crack raw as hell let me tell you
Oof. Tough exercise.
Aerosmith har become one of the bands I can't listen to anymore. I liked them when I was 13-14 around 1990 but not anymore at all. I think the only few songs I maybe kind of like will be Eat the Rich and Janie's got a gun.
From grip I like living on the edge and boogie man, on nine lives, I like taste of India and nine lives, beyond this I kinda gave up,
I might have 10 post 70s aerosmith songs lol post 90s is basiclly bon jovi
Ouch
I only like the 70's Aerosmith. The later interaction is for the lack of a better word bad.
There are some gems but they’re hard to find. Didn’t help that the decided hits were their overly saccharine songs.
This is an hilarious exercise. Very entertaining to see you guys trying to scrape something off the bottom of the barrel.
Post 1990 they lost their importance. But you forgot the great albums of the 80s. Done with mirrors, Permanent vacation and Pump. There's the cream of the crop
Strangly, my favorite song from Just Push Play is a bonus track called Face!
Perfect example of... "interesting topic, but no interest."
Right. I started listening and realized I don't know any of these songs 😆 But I appreciate the topic haha.
i understand liking a certain kind of song, but don't you want a band or singer to try new and exciting things for growth. can you imagine doing the same kind of song year in and year out. they'd be bored beyond belief. let the band grow!!

Taste Of India - probably a 'dark horse' pick
Something's Gotta Give - ditto
Fallen Angels - ditto ditto. Maybe I like Nine Lives more than many...
Jaded - again once away from FM radio the occasional listen works well
Girls Of Summer - 2002 single
Sedona Sunrise - cheating a bit with this one, this was on the 2006 best of Devil's Got a New Disguise but originated in some 1989 recording sessions. Good tune!
Sunny Side Of Love
Street Jesus
I'm Not Talkin' - yes the Yardbirds tune. Again like with Nine Lives I might like Music From Another Dimension! more than many...

There aren’t 10 good Aerosmith songs post 1990. I’m not sure that there is any.
Never a fan, kind of liked Janie’s gun
Aerosmith..................... Just Push Play..................... in my opinion is TERRIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely horrific album 😂
Ugh,..everything about it is bad..
Horrendous
Not that bad....
But i will say i hate Living on the edge. Cant believe its the same band that played sweet emotion, lord of the thighs, rats in the cellar , ect. Something went terribly wrong . Lol
A band more interested in money than creativity. Hardly a crime but they suck and make KISS look like Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Get A Grip has some great songs but (for me) there are just too many songs, (i.e. filler).
This was easy. There is absolutely none post 90s. It all ended after Rock In A Hard Place.
What ? You found ten decent songs ?
Just barely. With 11 I honestly would've been in trouble - I did 'cheat' a little with "Sedona Sunrise" (originated in '89 but unreleased until 2006) & one cover: the Yardbirds' "I'm Not Talkin'"
Their greatest album is Rocks and Draw the Line is their last great album. 80's and 90s Aerosmith makes me want to puke the same way Van GINA era makes me want to puke. Upon hearing the first notes I turn it off.
Post-1990 Aerosmith? lol trash 🗑️
Gotta agree here.
Aerosmith is my fav band from 72-81. But after 90 , i dont like anything .
Why 81? Night in the Ruts came out in 1979 and Rock in a Hard Place came out in 1982.
Aerosmith don't have 10 good songs post 1990. A waste of talent. Def Leppard are the same
