- Shocking Blues Venus reaction video.Bananarama had a huge hit with this song in the 80s and i never knew all this time it was a cover version.
While looking for a picture of the band online,i also stumbled on the fact that this song was featured on Netflix. So it looks like theres a big fan base for it.
Enjoy the Venus reaction by Shocking Blue .
This song was played at all the parties in 1969. Mariska Veres, lead singer here, passed away in 2006, may she rest in peace
Oh no! i didnt know that..so sorry to hear that
Shocking Blue - Venus (Video)
. 48M views. The band is Dutch and the lead singer Mariska Veres is strikingly beautiful. This a much higher quality sounding version of this iconic song.
Shes a very good singer
@@HarriBestReactions As I said earlier Hari don't forget to watch The LIVE: Midnight Special 1973 version of Dutch Group: Focus singing " Hocus Pocus" and you will see why I recommended it to you.
Good Luck.
I bought this 45 in junior high school, 1969.
Mariska Veres, a treasure, look it up here, 2006 her last TV performance, River Deep Mountain High, even in the end, she gave it her all and it shows.
Many great songs by Shocking Blue
This is so much better than the chintzy 80's Bananarama version. You like the cheap packaged over-produced music of the 80's over the real McCoy? You are totally wrong: Mariska Veres is a fantastic singer and performer.
Go and listen again and quote me where i mentioned what version i preferred.I never said which one i preferred.I said i never knew it was a cover. And by the way,i DO like the Bananarama version😀
LOL! I remember, in 5th grade, at a party, learning how to do the dance called "the four corners" to this song. Always loved this one. I like this one better than Bananarama's.
I was 12 years old at my girlfriend's house and she had this song on 45 and played it and gogo danced on platform seat. Hot stuff.
The group Shocking Blue were the original artists of this song. It was released in 1969. I was in my teen then and it was one of the most popular songs in the 70's. If you weren't around it the 70's you can't really appreciate what a great time in life it was. The music from the 70's will always be considered to be the best musical decade.
Naked Eyes covered "Always Something There to Remind Me" in 1983, made famous in 1964 by Sandie Shaw. There are dozens of 60s hits that were covered in the 80s. "Dancing In the Street" Bowie/Jagger, Kim Wilde"You Keep Me Hanging On", Phil Collins "You Can't Hurry Love", Tiffany "I Think We're Alone Now", Billy Idol "Mony Mony", Bangles "A Hazy Shade of Winter", etc.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS I'VE EVER HEARD. MARISKA VERES, PHENOMENON. WHAT EYES!
Harri you will learn that about half the songs out there are covers
Marisa ( singer) did not speak English, so the words to the song were written out for her to sing phonetically!! I absolutely loved dancing to this back in the 70’s 🥰💜🎶☮️ 🇳🇱 (Netherlands)
The Original is ALWAYS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Real Passion...
NO ! Not always !
Never heard the bananarama version. Just so you know. Your audio of the song had a pre- echo to it.
I noticed that later..strange
сразу видно... чувака реально прет от этой песни❤❤❤
I like this version it's got a good driving beat. I can remember bopping to it at school dances in 1970. Growing up listening to great music in the 60s and 70s meant I rolled my eyes when lesser cover versions were regurgitated in later years. Stop buying that rubbish get the original!
Listen to their live album Shocking Blue "Live in Japan"you will get the full effect of Mariska's voice son, Mariska very beautiful 😎
The original version she says "godness on the mountain top." English wasn't her first language.
I noticed the "Godness" as well!
Banana rama was a new wave song of the 80's,when the tempo went up on most songs.
A few songs that, surprisingly, were covers.

Bananarama love doing cover songs.
Harri, I do love the official video best. The sound is better. Thanks
Good to know!
Shocking Blue was a Dutch band. Huuuuge hit in the late 60s - or was it the early 70s? Singer was Mariska Veres. Composer/guitarist: Robbie Van Leeuwen
And they're Dutch! Great Song.
This is the original,Mariska can sing😎
I remember this in 70. Big hit! I prefer this over Bananaramas version, no disrespect. I believe their from the Netherlands. Almost certain their only hit in the USA. Not sure of the Netherlands
Rock song out of the Netherlands,. I remember it well on Radio Luxembourg...’the’ Rock station across Europe.
Greetings from Lima, Perú. Sure the original version of Shocking Blues is the better. Although I was a kid in the 80's the first time I listen to this song was in its original version.
Omg i heard this in 1972 during my high school electctroncs class
When I was building a Wawa pedal
More Shocking Blue please 😎 thanks 👍
" Venus " was the hit that made The Shocking Blue famous and was composed by one of the guitarist of the band . If you like this band , listen to " never marry a railroad man " , it's a good song too .
Shocking Blue version? They wrote it!
This came out in 1969
I even thought it might have been earlier..thanx
I felt performance in my pants.
Big hit late sixties by Shocking Blue.
Hello Harri! Checking in from Dallas, TX Peace and Love /*\ True North
Hey Alan..hows it going? Cheers mate
This is 1969, and the group is from Holland.
You have so much to learn grasshopper, lol
Little echo, yeah the wellspring of the sixties and early seventies produced a lot of covers.
The echo should NOT be there.
Had NO idea this was a female singer! Always thought it was a guy! Just, wow!
I thought the same for years!
All of 80’s kids thought the same thing, we all thought Banannarama ‘owned’ this song, lol
Banannarama is a covergroup. This song is from the 60ties and number 1 in the USA!
SHOCKING BLUE,"VENUS" 1969 CLASSIC REMADE IN THE '80'S BY BANANARAMA....
Hi. Enjoyed your reaction but it is a generational thing, Hari. :)When I grew up in the 1960's/1970's in London I heard some songs that I naturally assumed were the original version and it transpired they were 1950's songs.I remember this Dutch Group. I saw "Trace" a Dutch Group at The London College Of Printing and my first ever Concert was seeing Sonja Kristina and "Curved Air" play The Royal Festival Hall in 1971 aged 17.
Now if you trust me watch "Midnight Special 1973" Dutch Group:Focus perform " Hocus Pocus". THAT version and tell me what you think but no clues from me. :)
Shocking blue smashed it !!! Bananarama stuffed it up, so badly. Nothing like SB, superb !!!!
Agreed! The Shocking Blue original was not cluttered and was elegantly simpler. The superb chords of the two guitars blended with Marishka's sensual voice always seal the deal for me as THE version! Besides, the Shocking Blue original brings back solid memories!
The cool thing is no one in this group spoke English when they recorded it. Which is why lead singer Mariska Veres mispronounces goddess in the first line and says god-ness!
After the middle 90's, music died and they started covering what was real music.
For me, it is all about the music 🎶 They could sit on a stool and do nothing but play and sing with plain lights and I would be very happy. You don't need to make a Broadway production. I have photosensitive epilepsy, all the extra flashing lights and fireworks and stuff would land me in a hospital. So, I can't go to concerts because of all the stuff added on to make it a big show. To me, it's really about an awesome talented musician performing their music (notice I didn't say lip synching to a recording)
Performance do Shocking Blue é incomparavelmente melhor que o Bananarama, a voz da Mariska então... É até covardia comparar.
This is 60's rock or pop.disco came along later.😅
GREAT DUTCH BAND, LIKE BOTH THO
The original and the best 3:51
I'm so excited for you to react to Incubus!!
Circles (morning view sessions)
Pardon Me (morning view sessions)
Drive (morning view sessions)
*Really any song will do, the morning view sessions is a great, intimate concert
Soon Jason..soon 😀
Echo echo echo. If you look like here you don't have to move a lot
Hari Your speaking Audio is microscopic watch your mic levels Guy!
You got a problem with some echo on this video.
DISCO????!!!!!😮
Did you say this song is disco? It is more rock 'n' role.
For some reason, this reminded me of "Vehicle" by the Ides of March. Have you listened to that one yet? It's a great song by a "horn band" of the '70s (it was their only hit). Check that one out! ua-cam.com/video/TXvegzWNIps/v-deo.html audio only Digging into the big horn bands of the '70s would be a fun rabbit hole to dive into.
Thanx Terri
Jim Peterik wrote and sang "Vehicle" with the Ides of March and although none of their other songs were so popular, they kept performing when he was not busy with all of his numerous projects. Do some research and you will learn he has been a very busy entertainer, and is far from a one hit wonder.
Somebody monkeyed with that audio.
Can't you hear that?
This is the first time I’ve ever disagreed with your take on a song. “Venus” by Shocking Blue was a terrific version. There’s a lot of soul in this song and the music is authentic, and heartfelt. The arrangement combines Rhythm & Blues, some Country twang, and a Rock n Roll attitude. Mariska is a commanding lead singer and has a powerful unique voice. They remained popular in Europe for decades. Although I enjoyed Bananarama’s version, I prefer the authenticity of artists in the 1979s and 1970s compared to the more synthetic over-production of Banarama’s version. And I like the mystery and coolness of Mariska.
I meant the authenticity of the 1960s and 1970s.
You don't think ABBA sang disco???
I don’t think this is disco. Am I the only one that thinks this is late 60’s rock?
This version is definitely not disco.
Your such a pup; Bananarama...😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Venus is not Disco. This was around the mid 60’s. They used this in a commercial for a ladies leg shaver, which was named the Venus. Dude you would fit right in with the t-shirt...very 60’s. She was lip sinking, they did that a lot back then for T.V.
Shocking Blue had the 1st hit. More rock. I loved this song, esp with her rock scream that was louder on the recording. I didn't like the cover version at all.
Audio was a bit messed up on this one. Legendarily great track but definitely not Disco! Psychedelic Pop/Rock. Came out years before Dicso even existed.
Your speakers are off, sorry 😐
Orginal is great but i do like banarama version i heard it when i was a teenie
You have a bad echo in your playback.
The problem is a studio song played on a show. Gotta be good at lip sync.
And this is not an original either. Look in Wikipedia for this songs history, or search for The Banjo Song by The Big 3 from 1963. It’s an adaptation vs a true cover. Either way it’s not original.
Too much reverb
shockiing blue should sue the crap out of bananarama that cover was trash
Terrible sound …..sounds runs double and isn’t synchronised
