Kenny wrote the song as a gift to this brother Danny upon the birth of his first child. He first recorded it while in the group Gator Creek the year before this version by Loggins & Messina on their debut album "Sittin' In."
That song set so many of us up. We thought that through love and spiritual enlightenment we could achieve the same thing, but then most lived in the city and life was complicated. We all had to wake up one morning and realize married life was difficult and at times troubling and that along with love were things we couldn't stand about each other.
Yes, Full Sail was one of my very favorite albums, ' Love Song', Pathway to Glory, Coming to you, Salin the Wind, all great tunes to sit back and listen. Cheers
He had to choose between producing Kenny Logins or Dan Fogelberg. Said he chose Logins because he was less polished and technically precise than Fogelberg, plus, Kenny had personality... I've been to one of Jim's song writing camps and he literally knows everybody in the music business and his memory for detail is uncanny.
@@Timoeltejano I am a big fan of both Dan and Jenny though I prefer Dan’s music more because he was able to do so much on his on and was more creative with his range of music. I saw or heard that interview with Jim and felt that Kenny needed more assistance in production plus Dan started out with a more country pop sound than Kenny which Jim had already done and was leaning away from !
@@joelliebler5690 cool. Yes I was trying to keep it short but I really like how you boiled it down. And I agree that Dan was the much better musician, singer, artist. I saw that interview with him by John Beaudin. And I attended one of his song writing workshops where he told almost the same story word for word like 10 years ago. And then he deconstructed Angry Eyes. If you're a Jim Messina fan check out the tribute to Rusty Young (of Poco and one Buffalo Springfield album) it was hosted at a radio station with a bunch of musicians and Jim M basically took over the whole thing, but because he really does know everybody in the music biz. @@Timoeltejano I will keep it in mind. I saw Jim at a reunion tour concert with Kenny at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island, NY. They were great together. They played all their great tunes and then some.
For me this is a song of what once was. It’s a bitter sweet reminder of when my ex and I were just beginning our decades long marriage. So much hope, so much potential. It makes me smile but it’s also painful.
Love this duo from the 70's. Had their albums. They had a lot of great songs such as "House At Pooh Corner", "Your Mama Don't Dance", "Thinking Of You", "My Music", "Angry Eyes", "Watching The River Run", "Vahevala", "Lahaina", "Sailin' The Wind", "Pathway To Glory" etc. "Danny's Song" was written by Kenny Loggins as a gift for his brother Danny for the birth of his son Colin. Anne Murray also had a hit version of this song in 1972.
Loggins and Messina was part of the soundtrack of my college days. After all these years, I still get the feels. Harri, please go down this rabbit hole.
In 74 this song still had a lot of air play and had me hoping for a good future waiting on the birth of my daughter. The record company pair the veteran Jim Messina with the younger Kenny Loggins to help guide him through the business.
The chorus is one of those snatches of music that can stay with you for years and pop up now and then when circumstances trigger it. I have heard a number of versions but I prefer the simplicity of this arrangement. I like the way they add instruments as they go along. It matches the mood of the song so well.
While we’re doing duets-😊- Seals & Crofts’ We May Never Pass This Way Again or You’re The Love would be wonderful to hear again and see your reaction. Thanks Harri!

Jim Messina was a brilliant pop arranger (not to mention a superb songwriter, guitarist, and producer). Check out his long songs like "Angry Eyes" "Pathway to Glory," and "Be Free." Seeing them in two weeks at The Hollywood Bowl!
When I was pregnant, the first time around, this was on the radio all the time, sung by Anne Murray -- and I cried every single time! I love Kenny Loggins, and love this version better, but I knew it first by her. Such a tender and joyful expression of the wonders of expecting a child!
Your Mamma Don't Dance Angry Eyes Good Friend Keep Me In Mind Thinking About You Loggins and Messina have such beautiful songs. Just pure sweet music that's blended to perfection with the simple beauty of the melody. Perfection. This song was released in 1971 by Loggins and Messina but didn't achieve great notoriety until it was released by Canadian Anne Murray in 1973 where it shot to the top of the charts. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Brandon. Classic beauty. Loved it. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Harri, this was written as a gift to his brother, Danny. As he tells it, he needed to give him a gift to celebrate the birth of his (Danny's) son, but didn't have any money, so he wrote him this song instead. I think it was just about the best gift anyone could've given him.
Really love these two together his name is Jim Messina and the two made one of my favorite albums 'Full Sail' in the early 70's. Hope you try listening to some of these like, Love Song, You Need a Man, Coming to You, Watching the River Run, Pathway to Glory, Salin the Wind, all excellent tunes. Thanks Harri
just saw jim at the worthington golf club here in the western mass. berkshires this june. a beautiful 75 degree night and he played every hit from POCO and LOGGINS and MESSINA. he even threw in 'kind woman' from his short time with the BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD. he and his band were fantastic and a perfect time was had by all of the 250 people in attendance. they were set up on the 9th green and you could walk right up front to within 10 feet
Such a beautiful song - written by Kenny while he was still in high school. He said he couldn't afford a gift for his brother for the baby so he wrote this. And no, it would not work as a duet with a woman. It's a beautiful, simple song and it is not a man/woman love song, it is a love song to his brother. Everything is not better done differently.
My now ex-wife and her best friend would sing this song around the campfire when we all went camping(not as good as this.....but they did it justice). Not all memories of a failed marriage are bad.
They were a great duo in the 70s. But my favorite is Celebrate Me Home, which was done by Kenny Loggins only. If you haven’t done a reaction to it, would love to see your reaction. Thanks Harri. 😊🇨🇦
