I fell in love with this song covered by Canadian songbird Ann Murray. It was years later I heard the Loggins version and was surprised that he wrote it. Love this song!! ☮️💕 P. S. - Your musical tastes amazes the heck out of me!!
When my wife and I got pregnant, ahead of knowing the sex…we chose the names Danielle if a girl and Daniel if a boy. When the doc confirmed we would be having a boy, this song was playing in the lobby when we left. Brings a smile to my face everytime I hear this song.😎
As a Danielle myself, I appreciate and approve your story. Lol Oddly enough, even though the name Danielle has been a fairly popular name for decades, people occasionally still pronounce it, Daniel. So there ya go, best of both worlds....sorta. 😂
Everyone knows Kenny Loggins but Jim Messina was in the Buffalo Sringfield and was a founding member of the folk rock group POCO............He and Kenny made a great duo with some great hits.
This is certainly a beautiful song and you gotta love that acoustical guitar. There’s a couple songs I was thinking of you might really enjoy blowing in the wind by Peter Paul and Mary. It was great and another one is San Francisco night by the animals with a beautiful guitar solo and you guys keep it up.
Loggins and Messina had 3 Top 40 songs: #4 Your Mama Don't Dance, #16 My Music and #18 Thinking Of You. Anne Murray (from Nova Scotia, Canada) hit #7 with Danny's Song in 1973.
"Bring a tear of joy to my eye"--not a truer line has ever been sung. Not every time I hear the song, but most. Anne Murray covered this song. She was a country singer in the 70's and 80's. Another song with a fiddle--"Reason to Believe" by Rod Stewart. Check that out; I think you'll like it/
What's crazy is that he wrote this as a teenager and when he auditioned for Jim Messina this was one of the songs he did. You guys need to watch the interview of Jim talking about when Kenny showed up at his house to audition; he didn't have a guitar; he didn't have tapes, nothing. He just showed up with a notebook of songs, Danny's Song being one of them. The rest is history!!
So glad to see Ty again. Yes, I have always loved this song and Kenny's voice is just spectacular in it. Love how the music grew and the addition of Messina's harmonizing toward the end. Anne Murray's version is beautiful as well. She has one of the most pure voices you will ever hear and has a large volume of songs herself. She is a hidden treasure that no one seems to have caught onto.
here's an interesting parallel for you ... James Taylor also wrote a song for his brother when his first child was born. it's called Sweet baby James because his brother named his first baby after James. it's also a beautiful song.
I just found you guys a few hours ago and am really enjoying the song choices because they bring back memories of a time when music was real! I'm a 60 year old man and I really enjoy your reactions. One thing I've learned is you seem to really enjoy a good sax player and recently I heard a song from 2 people (one playing the sax and another playing guitar) that has no words but it speaks a language that only my soul understands. If you get a chance, look up Candy Dulfer and Dave Stewart doing a song called "Lily was Here". The video I'm speaking of is a HD 1989 video where she is wearing a reddish brown leather jacket. I told my daughter if I'm ever in a coma, put headphones on me and play this song continuously. If I don't come out of it, then just unplug me. I think you'll enjoy it if you haven't already heard it.
Love this duo from the 70's. Had their albums. They had a lot of great songs such as "House At Pooh Corner", "Your Mama Don't Dance", "Thinking Of You", "My Music", "Angry Eyes", "Watching The River Run", "Vahevala", "Lahaina", "Sailin' The Wind", "Pathway To Glory" etc. "Danny's Song" was written by Kenny Loggins as a gift for his brother Danny for the birth of his son Colin. Anne Murray also had a hit version of this song in 1972.
Never heard this song before and thanks to you guys I've discovered it. Not usually the country/folk guy but this is just so beautiful. Loved your reactions and the smiles just prove how great it is.
Jim Messina is a GOD. He was in Buffalo Springfield, and Poco. Kenny went to him with "a pocket full of tunes" in like 1971 to produce Kenny's songs. Jim got so involved in it and sang and played, that accidental duo Loggins & Messina was born. They are legend!
GUYS... You MUST do "Whenever I Call You Friend", which is a duo that Kenny Loggins does with... (wait for it)... Stevie Nicks! The song is pure, raw vocal talent by both of them. The song is in the no-synth, late 70s style like this song was. You'll all love it, guaranteed.
For another side of Kenny Loggins try Benoit/Freeman Project “When She Believed In Me” which features Kenny on vocals. David Benoit and Russ Freeman are great musicians more of a smooth jazz sound and Kenny kills it on this song.
Love me some Jim Messina. He was originally an A&R man when Loggins was working on a demo (I think). Loggins needed a musician to play with so Messina stepped in. They have great vocal harmonies. My favorite album of theirs is Mother Lode. So brilliant. I always thought that Messina helped Loggins in some of his musical excesses. They were great together. Messina used to be in Poco and I love their music too. You should check out Rose of Cimmaron...such a great song.
By the way guys Ann Murray did a very good cover of this song CK her singing it. Female country version a little faster from her but I like it. I think she dropped verse.
LOVE THEM!! Love their LIVE version of ANGRY EYES!! OMG - SO, SOO, GOOD!!! FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!!! ENJOY, GUYS! GLAD to see ALL THREE OF YOU!! HUGS, GUYS!!
~ Aww...I forgot how sweet this song is. ❤ On the same album is a song titled "House at Pooh Corner". It's a Winnie the Pooh story Kenny wrote to music. (On Billboard's top 100 😊)
So happy Ryan picked this great song to start off Loggins & Messina. Excellent choice! Now please do Move On by them, you won't be disappointed! Best sax solo!
I LOVE Vahevalla. I didn't know about it until their 2005 reunion concert "Sittin In Again" in Santa Barbara on you tube. Blown away by the whole concert and that song was amazing!!
10000% a lump in the throat & add to that, chills...ya either have pneumonia or Kenny's getting ya in the feels. And if you don't like this song, you must be on drugs.
Nothing better on music reactions than introducing old gold to new people. The song is just ear magic, and heart magic too. It hits you in your humanness quite nicely. Was stoked for 2 days to hear this with you, and it was a homerun.
❤Beautiful song. Loggins and Messina are a talented duo that had a folk singer song writter vibe. I love Angry Eyes and Your Mama Don't Dance. This was long before sound track Kenny. I love all Kenny.
I have to say that I'm very impressed when a younger generation like Ryan, NIck and Ty can enjoy and appreciate the songs I grew up with a long time ago. Love the honest feedback. Keep it up guys!
Regarding astrology and the zodiac, of course there is "Year of the Cat" by Al Stewart, which you guys reacted to and loved! (In Chinese astrology, it's the Year of the Rabbit, but in Vietnam, it's the Year of the Cat.) ... And there's also: 1) "The Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" from the musical "Hair." The Fifth Dimension had a No. 1 pop hit with it in 1969. 2) "Float On" by the R&B group The Floaters (1977, No. 2 pop song) features each group member starting his verse by mentioning his zodiac sign (Aquarius, Libra, Leo and Cancer). 3) "Gemini Dream" by the Moody Blues (1981, No. 12 pop). 4) "Cool Change" by the Little River Band (1979, No. 10 pop), which features the lyrics "I was born in the sign of water." 5) "Jesus Was a Capricorn" by Kris Kristofferson (1972), which has clever lyrics! 🙂Hippies and the groovy people of the 1960s and 1970s were especially big on horoscopes and peace and love and harmony and astrology. "What's your sign?" was a common question to ask people and/or a common pickup line at parties or at bars.
I had only ever heard Anne Murray sing this song. I always assumed it was her song (maybe because I'm Canadian, they played her version). In any case, it is an absolutely beautiful song and his version is beautiful as well. Such a talented man!
Loggins and Messina songs are a great rabbit hole…”Angry Eyes”, “Be Free”, “Vahevala”, “Peace of Mind”, “Your Mama Don’t Dance” as well as Messina’s former band Poco…
Jim Messina was the producer on what i believe was Kenny's first solo album, but ended up adding so much value to the first tracks with his guitar playing and vocals that Kenny and he ended up as a duo for several albums. The radio tracks and the deep cuts are all stellar. I saw them live in 1974 and it is one of my favorite concerts ever. Ballads and rockers! My favorite all-time L&M cut is "Watching the River Run." Magic voices and some of the best musicians on the planet doing their best playing. And it's got flute, Ryan!
Pretty much sums it up. I see Kenny live a couple of times as a solo act and the reunion tour Pam’s Loggins and Messina live at Jones Beach Theater on Long Iskabd, NY!
Kenny also duetted with Stevie Nicks on "Whenever I Call You Friend," in 1978. A big hit that year. It was more Yacht Rock. And the '70s was all about astrology. What's your sign, man?
Kenny's song "The Real Thing" is a song he wrote for his daughter Isabella's (she was originally to be named Amanda) Christening but then divorced his first wife so he ended up writing it to about his divorce, to his daughter. The "boys" mentioned in the song are in reference to his 2 sons Cody and Crosby. This song brings me tears every time!! It's a must listen to but be sure to have Kleenex handy!!
Kenny Loggins - I'm Alright - Theme from the movie Caddyshack is another great song along the pace of Footloose. As for a song with the same kind of style as Danny's Song could be "If You Could Read My Mind" by Canadian Singer Gordon Lightfoot. I'm Canadian so got to hear alot of his great songs.
Yes, as others have suggested 'House at Pooh Corner' is nice. Also, Forever, and Celebrate Me Home. Really enjoyed this one. The other cover was Anne Murray.
I fell in love with this song covered by Canadian songbird Ann Murray. It was years later I heard the Loggins version and was surprised that he wrote it. Love this song!! ☮️💕
P. S. - Your musical tastes amazes the heck out of me!!
Ann Murray has an excellent cover
Loggins and Messina were household names back in the day. 71 this came out.
When my wife and I got pregnant, ahead of knowing the sex…we chose the names Danielle if a girl and Daniel if a boy. When the doc confirmed we would be having a boy, this song was playing in the lobby when we left. Brings a smile to my face everytime I hear this song.😎

"Angry Eyes" is one you don't want to miss, fantastic song!
My favorite Loggins & Messina song is "Your Mama Don't Dance." I hope you check that one out.
Another fun song is “Your Momma don’t dance, and Your Daddy don’t Rock n Roll”!! For fiddles try Kansas!!🤘🔥
Poison did a cover of that song.
@@UncleDaffy313They did, but it's nowhere near as good as the Loggins & Messina version.
Agreed! The Loggins & Messina song is a dozen times better than Poison. I'm just glad that they may have drawn another audience in for the song.
Loggins and Messina had 3 Top 40 songs: #4 Your Mama Don't Dance, #16 My Music and #18 Thinking Of You. Anne Murray (from Nova Scotia, Canada) hit #7 with Danny's Song in 1973.
That is the version I know best
You've got to try "Celebrate me Home". Incredible vocals, especially for the holidays.
Oh God... you opened up a whole great catalog!
Your Momma Don't Dance was a huge hit for L&M. Love My Music was another early hit.
You really need to check out another song Kenny Logins did with Stevie Nicks called 'Whenever I Call You Friend'.... talk about an amazing song!!!
I loved seeing Nick feel that song! You could tell he was feeling it good. Beautiful song.
"Bring a tear of joy to my eye"--not a truer line has ever been sung. Not every time I hear the song, but most. Anne Murray covered this song. She was a country singer in the 70's and 80's. Another song with a fiddle--"Reason to Believe" by Rod Stewart. Check that out; I think you'll like it/
House at Pooh Corner has the same feel ❤️
He was truly an incredible singer songwriter
You want fire? You need to hit "Angry Eyes" from their "Loggins and Messina" album!

Angry Eyes--the best song they played together
here's an interesting parallel for you ... James Taylor also wrote a song for his brother when his first child was born. it's called
Sweet baby James
because his brother named his first baby after James.
it's also a beautiful song.
Heart to Heart is a must listen. Cowritten by Michael McDonald and has a killer sax solo. Very underrated and underplayed track.
The great David Sanborn, who just passed away, did the alto sax solo.
Logging and Messina...GOLD!

Yes. Such a great, feel-good song with a unique vocal intro.
Gotta do HEART TO HEART, totally stop the car, turn it up and rock out!!! You will LUV IT!!!
When Ever I Call You Friend with Stevie Nicks is a must.
The Ty man is back. ❤ ta see the 3 of you guys back together.
And this song was and still is fire! 💯
❤ Ty is back!

This song is my favorite sweet slow song by him. Now do Danger Zone.😮
Great reaction, guys. It’s really some song.
Yes, do "Whenever I Call You Friend."
The next time Ty returns, Kenny's (solo) wonderful "Celebrate Me Home" would be a sweet choice from you two to him.
Looooove that song.
It's been "seconded" so I will "third" it, if that's a thing. 🤷♂
@@kevinhayes906 Fourthed!
And “You Don’t Know me” from this album
Canadian Anne Murray went to #1 on the charts in the US with this song in 1973.
If & when you have a child, this song will hit hard… put a lump in your throat…
Great job guys…
10000% a lump in the throat & add to that, chills...ya either have pneumonia or Kenny's getting ya in the feels. And if you don't like this song, you must be on drugs.
Yea Kenny was folk rock to start out. Do Angry Eyes Next.. Then Your Mama Don't Dance. Fun song.
Kenny's nefew is 53 now. I was 14 when this was released...

One of the best written songs ever.
I have to say that I'm very impressed when a younger generation like Ryan, NIck and Ty can enjoy and appreciate the songs I grew up with a long time ago. Love the honest feedback. Keep it up guys!
The anticipation of the last chorus with the added harmonies!
Such a beautiful, amazing song. Haven't heard it in years but it takes me right back to the 70s. Great reaction ❤❤❤❤
THIS is why people love Kenny Loggins!
It's always nice seeing young people discover music that I've been listening to and enjoying for decades. Good, good music.
Great song and the lyrics just flood back to your mind. Timeless.
Anne Murray did a beautiful cover of this song.
Hey Ty...glad you stopped by and visited with us!!
Welcome back Ty ❤y'all
Ann Murray covered this song, too.
Thank you for choosing this one, guys! The vocals are double-tracked, not predominately reverb'd.
I like this version the best! Great harmony! Great song! So smooth
Anne Murray has many great records, some covers and many originals.
She is a fabulous singer.
"They got rid of the stamp" 😆😆🤣🤣
...and, this was such a SWEET FIDDLE!!! WELL PLACED and just BEAUTIFUL!!
Kenny Loggins' 'This is IT!' was the Louisville Cardinals Championship song that was played throughout the Final Four tournement.

My favorite Loggins song. Even when I was a child when I first heard it back in 1971, I knew this song was special. So glad y’all liked it 🤗
Yup, same.
This was a huge hit back in the day and I never get tired of it….you’re right, Nick, playlist forever! ❤
Loggins and Messina songs are a great rabbit hole…”Angry Eyes”, “Be Free”, “Vahevala”, “Peace of Mind”, “Your Mama Don’t Dance” as well as Messina’s former band Poco…

This is my all-time-favorite Loggins & Messina song. It hit me at a time when I was a single dad and looking for love. It really spoke to me.
Kenny Loggins is just so talented and diverse. Great song!!!
Check out Loggins and Messina's hit "Your Mama Don't Dance (And Your Daddy Don't Rock and Roll)."
He wrote this when he was 17 for his brother who just had a baby. Listen to his vocal on Celebrate Me Home.
Have this album...one of my favorites. Great inn concert as well.
Please Come To Boston is a great Jim Messina song.
Dave Loggins wrote it
Jim Messina 1st joined the band Buffalo Springfield, later founded Poco and after that, he and Kenny teamed up
Such a great 70's song. This has all the feels!!
You should try another Loggins & Messina song, "Your Mama Don't Dance" - completely different sound!
Astrology was HUGE!! around this time (the hippie era). The "Age of Aquarius" from "Hair". 5th Dimension's version was KILLER
You have to do Pooh's Corner. Beautiful
