  • This modification is something that probably every harley rider should do. Basically it collects all the oil, condensation and other slime from an engine and routes it to a catch can which means it doesnt go back into the engine. Simple and easy. The idea came from another video on youtube. There are heaps out there this one seemed to be the most stealthy.
    Hardest part ? Having the guts to drill into a perfectly good intake.
    This was the that video In fact this is a copy of that video but with a difference as I add a catch can.

    I used a screamin eagle backing plate with my stock cover. I didn’t use those black hoses that go onto the breather bolts. Instead I just used 1/4 inch rubber fuel hose and just pushed them over the breather bolts. Then I put a tee fitting and run the hose out front. Works great 👍 nice video

      Yeh I was worried about them kinking like a water hose and then the pressure building up and exploding in my crotch cos... I dont like explosions in my crotch ! :) thanks for watching.👍

    Good job on your project. I have a 1987 HD FXLRC that I am planning on doing the same thing to, due to oil that comes running out of my air cleaner once in a great while.

      Hey Joe. Since this video I have found that the smaller catch can is really annoying. I intend to do an update video when I add an oil pressure gauge in the near future. Basically the breather is breathing oily gasses onto the underside of the seat and legs. Also due to its size it needed to be emptied halfway between oil changes so need something that can be done at the same time as the regular oil changes. I feel the bike is less spluttery but that could be in the brain ! Thanks for the comment.

    Great vid, mate. I’ve done this on a sporty, will do my road king. Great to just use the rubber thingies. I’ll just run hose to back side of bike. I’ll see if I have room to make the hose travel up after backing plate, that way oil mist can go back in engine.

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  Рік тому

      Glad you enjoyed it. wont routing the oil mist back into the engine negate the need for breathers as that is what it does stock wise ?

    • @MrBradfordchild
      @MrBradfordchild Рік тому

      @@theobviouschicken no, stock it gets burned in the combustion chamber. Actually, now I think about it, it won't get beck past the umbrella valves. My mistake. I'll just route to the rear like my sporty. nothing much comes out anyway, and if it does the umbrella valves need replacing.

  • @ut1004bp

    That really should be a closed loop system..meaning piped back into the intake after going thru your catch can, to help maintain engine vacuum

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  Рік тому

      I'lll look it up to see if it is an issue didnt think it would be as a lot of harley people do it.... but then a lot of harley people dont so .🤷‍♂ Right now I am pretty happy with the slop not going into my intake.

    Can you just delete this breather system?? Is it really needed to have a breather system ??

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  7 місяців тому

      The breather system in place from the factory on the FXDC takes the slop and shoves it into the intake to get reburnt. This means that oil is coating the top of the pistons and spark plugs. Further to this sometimes you will get too much and it will then slop out of the airfilter. Deleting the factory breather will have it slopping down the side of the engine as the bolts will just be open. The method in the video is a way of taking the slop and channelling it to another area either a catch can or to atmosphere. Taking it away from the engine means the engine isnt intaking oil/slop/crap into the intake which really should only be air and fuel. Hope this helps

    Hey mate, I’ve done a coil relocation as well and I’m running the breakout leads but they’re a bit on the tight side! Where’d you get your leads?

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  Рік тому

      DK customs make exact length for their coil relocation kit that they make. If your coil is in the same place then job done! www.dkcustomproducts.com/409-pro-race-spark-plug-wires-ready-to-install-dk-wrs-blk-10.htm you can get them in red... but black is subtle ( says the bloke with a rubber duck on his handlebars ! )

      Just went outside to check them Seem to be ok. Iv only done about 8000 kms since the install but the hosing is actually over the top of them so if anything were to melt it would be the hosing and thats fine too. Thanks for watching.

    How often do you have to drain the catch can?

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  Рік тому

      Every time I am under the bike to check belts and stuff. About once every 3 -4000 kms . I dont get a lot mainly water and some engine snot. Its never been full but then I keep the oil at 3/4 full mark rather than brimmed to the top from a tip I got off here. I ride a lot so its likely to be around 3 - 4 times a year. Thanks for watching!

      @@theobviouschicken Having experiencing all of that, would you say that the EBS is necessary, or even worthwhile?

    • @theobviouschicken
      @theobviouschicken  Рік тому +1

      @@martincvitkovich724
      Necessary ? depends on the age/mileage of the engine and how well it was looked after I suspect. For me it was necessary plus I really only want Air + fuel + spark. Not Air+oilmist+condensation+fuel+spark!
      Worthwhile? again yes. I check it often enough so it doesnt fill up too much and I also follow expert advice on where to have the oil on the dipstick readout as opposed to harley recommendations. If you arent a hands-on person then probably not. Or if you switch out your bikes regularly. Dk customs have a lot on their website on what it looks like without an EBS and with. Its eye opening.
      What I will do is one time when I am doing the check or actually the oil change will be next . I'll show the contents of the catch can as well.
