I live in Massachusetts where there are tons of old homes like this. You do not want to buy one. They have had so much activity in them they have memory and are haunted. Living in a haunted house is beyond stressful bc you are living w someone you cannot see. And if they are mean or jokesters you will lose sleep. I went thru it and eventually moved out. In Massachusetts they have to tell you if a house is haunted before you buy and then there is a back out period of time after purchase. It used to be like that anyway. I won’t live in anything older than 1975 here after the horribleness I went thru. I def do not recommend purchase of these homes.
@breadoflife7535 I hear you on that. Last place we lived wasn't old and it was in the Upper Midwest but it *was* haunted. Him trying to get our attention was often scary (and I don't scare that easily...my children do...we were all scared though lol) but once he got used to us, it got better. The play area we made for our children in the basement seldom got used as "Ghostman" liked to be down there, especially near the work bench. I never want to live anywhere haunted again.
We bought an 1809 Federal Colonial on 44 acres for $60,000. It was very haunted and a Latin Mass Catholic Bishop did 2 exorcisms and our home has been Blessed. Do a youtube search for Ed and Lorraine Warren Addie, and hear our story.
You may already know this but, in old homes like this one, the best wood was often used on the floors on the first level, where guests visited. The lesser quality of wood was often used on the second floor, in the bedrooms, hence sometimes the floors there were painted. Beautiful old home!
Thank you for this, I had no idea! Cool piece of trivia. I am thinking about the house where I grew up, which was said to have been an Inn at some point and one of the upstairs rooms was a dance hall. In that instance, I wonder if they took care to reinforce the floor in that room to take the extra pressure and used the best boards in that room as well, if that was the house's original incarnation. It was primarily a private residence as all later photos/records show.
That's not a fireplace, it is a hearth. Absolutely beautiful, this is my dream house since I was a little girl. I live on Long Island NY and we have 2 places were there are pre revolutionary buildings. Old Bethpage Restoration Village, and Millers Inn Village. They were 2 of my favorite place as a child.
Only change I would make is to move the mirror from above the bed in the one room down to the 1/2 bath. Some of the floors were likely sanded down to be more even and prevent tripping hazard but otherwise a solid house. Love it! Thanks for sharing! ❤
What a beautifully maintained 300 year old house! It’s mind blowing to think how old this house is. I would make that little sitting room into a library. Would be great to cozy up to the fire with a nice book. I like the pale yellow in the majority of the house but yes that bright yellow is too bright. I would have carried that pale yellow into the bathroom as well for some color.
For many years I have had the Experience of working in very old houses like this so I appreciate anything that's restored and maintained well. Love wide floorboards. Love hand adzed beams in the ceilings. Dead Squirrels In The Attic. It's true they got stuck and couldn't get out. Yes I agree to touching up the yellow around the fireplace and the darker red in the Kitchen near the floor. These old houses have their challenges with painting because not everything is straight. So it takes a little more time to paint. Really enjoy this channel.
I love this house too! I love the first bedroom colors, the pale yellow, gray and white work great together. And the 3rd bedroom, I would just move the bed around, it’s giving dance floor vibes with all the furniture pushed together out of the way.
This house is exceptionally decorated and preserved. Shows the respect the owners have for the history and beauty of the house. So much wonderful character. Breaks my heart when you see some homes that are gutted and modernized. The darker yellow makes the house bright and friendly. Gorgeous floors and furniture. Thank you for sharing.
I love the floors especially the kitchen floor. It really tell us something about the work that went into a home that is still standing hundreds of years later. It is to bad they don't build homes like this today.
Hi, new here from S.East, MI. I love this old house! Its beautiful n I wouldnt change a thing. The floors were painted for a reason. I think they are perfect because the original owners painted them. I know because they were less than perfect wood floors, but I think the paint protects n seals the wood to preserve them longer. Its a gorgeous home anyone would be proud to actually own. I wish uou could talk about a little of the history who the original buolders n owners n their families n what kind of work they fid yo survive n make a hokd life for themselves all those years ago. I love hearing n leatning about who lived there n what their life was like. It affs to the significance of these beautiful homes that are irreplaceable, treasures.
The yellow definitely fits the time period of the home. For a more modern home I would not use that color but it works for colonial homes. The kitchen floor is wonderful! The master bedroom is warm and cozy. The second and third bedrooms are quaint. I always prefer natural flooring with no paint. Agree, the main bath needs some color. The backyard is beautiful. Love the look of the back of the house too! Makes me long for my former house in Leicester, MA. Love New England!! Thanks so much and Happy New Year!
I would strip the floors back to their natural state. Also I would change that Roman shade in the bathroom, to something that matches the era of the house.
I think that fireplace is functional--that's a well-loved soapstone stove with the firedogs in front and an old-fashioned poker lock too--all good choices for long-term use. What a beautiful, treasured house. Thanks for sharing this with us, it earned you a subscription :) x
I really like the room with the creamy color on the walls. Don't you just love those wooden floors! Upstairs had some wonderful pieces of furniture, too. They keep the rooms clutter free, with fabulous antique pieces. I would love a tour of this house. Thank you.
I love the outside colors of the house and mostly all the inside colors. I like the muted gold/yellow and also the color in the kitchen went with the rest of the house. I’d repaint that bright yellow floor in one of the bedrooms and do something with the white bathroom. It’s a lovely home!
Thank you for your content, my husband and I live in New England and love old homes( we live in a 34 year old home, but have decorated it to feel old). We were not a fan of the bright yellow, but loved the golden yellow. Gorgeous old home!
I have a real affinity for old homes. I grew up in central Ohio in an old brick farmhouse built in 1853. We were only the third family to live in our house. And I remember that we moved into our house in October of 1959. The basement is constructed of large rounded stones. There are original oak floors throughout the house, and there are two large fireplaces downstairs with the mantels and hearths constructed of black slate. I loved that old house and miss it dearly. I have visions of one day returning and buying our old house back. Ah, one can dream! Loved your video and this beautiful New England home - thanks!
The third bedroom is my favorite bedroom! I would place the bed catty-cornered … the room seems large enough to accommodate that position. Also … not liking that BRIGHT yellow, the soft yellow appeals to me, though. I could make the bathrooms beautiful! The house is lovely, especially on the outside. Narrator talks WAY TOO FAST.
This home is almost perfect! I would decorate the primary bathroom more, it's too overwhelmingly white for my taste, but other than that this one is a dream come true!
I love the rich colors throughout the house. I do love the first yellow that’s a theme but I’m with you on the yellow in the second bedroom floor. Something seems off, but it might be the rug contrasting with it. The main thing I’d change is the full bath. I know the Victorian period was over a hundred years after this home was built, but a claw foot tub and antique vanity would add so much character to this beautiful historic home. Thanks for the tour!
I agree with all the changes you would make. I would want mantles. The wall colors are not too overwhelming because some of the wall in the same room are white. Bathroom needs a large colorful painting on😊 the wall bigger mirror. I'm 83 from Illinois.
I do love yellow, but not that dark, loud yellow on the floor of that one bedroom! I would change it for sure. But the yellows used in the other rooms is beautiful! It's more of a pale golden color. The home owners were correct to paint the woodwork, because that is what was done back when this house was built. I do love painted woodwork. And I love your channel, thank you so much for sharing these beautiful houses with us! When I first started watching your videos, I mistakenly thought these houses were open to the public. I'm rather envious of the people who live in these beautiful homes!
Thank you for the tour of this gorgeous home! I agree the paint upstairs is a little bright yellow, but I think I would still leave it. Thank you for the tour and hope to see more.
I just stumbled across your channel here…..I’m grew up in Massachusetts….I LOVE colonial history…..especially old homes. Ty for sharing! I’ll be watching you show from now on!!❤
Soapstone woodstove, old wood box, rug beater on wall, “match”box on wall next to dining room fireplace, looks like a linoleum rug in kitchen . . . beautiful home and the light coming through the windows is soooo desired in gray New England where the damp cold gets into one’s bones.
I love the light yellow throughout the house. It really adds to brightening it up along with all the natural light. This is a great house! I'd love a place like that. We don't have houses this old in Michigan. I've always wanted to get over to the east coast and see the older structures.
I love all the colors used in the home They are absolutely gorgeous and you're right they don't build them like this anymore. The yellow is like a mustard yellow color i also like the mashed pea green color. It all ties together beautifully. Thanks for sharing.❤️

That shade of yellow believe it or not is pretty period correct and actually complimentary to the spaces. 18th century paint colors were usually bright and included reds, yellows and blues a lot in floor, walls and furniture colors. I love the yellow and wouldn't change a thing.
The yellow brightens up the house and keeps it from being dreary in the winter time. It is a great color if some one has depression in the household, it helps in cheering them up a little! No matter how good the style and architecture, new houses can't hold a candle to the old ones!
new houses won't last 30 years let alone 300
Such nostalgia. Take me there.
No, cause they have electricity! 😉😂
@@diamondtiara84 so true. These new houses have no character. Bland and poorly built.
Except the floors aren't sloping 😂 and the stairs are less steep.
This is the kind of house that makes my history-loving heart sing. Wish we could afford one like it.

I’ve admired this house for many years. The homeowners were very generous to share this lovely interior with us 💛!
The yellow is surprisingly attractive.
All the imperfections make it he house even more perfect . Wouldnt change a thing . Love it .

And that's not a coffee table! It's a gun shed!
@maureen14 a hearth and a fireplace are two distinct things. The terms are often used interchangeably but nonetheless, they are different.
It's a fireplace with a woodstove inserted.
In the “museum room” I would have a library with COMFORTABLE armchairs. Lovely home.

The yellow brightens up the house and keeps it from being dreary in the winter time. It is a great color if some one has depression in the household, it helps in cheering them up a little! I also have a warm peach-beigh, white trim, brass fixtures, blue-grey slate, and multiple dark wood varieties throughout the house that mix well with my early British-American, French, and Dutch antiques. I know in some parts of the world, if you buy a historical registered property, you may not get free reign in color choice, try to keep that in mind when exploring for your next big investment. Would I do the yellow again in the next house? Maybe, I would definitely use the other colors I selected.
