      It was perfect.
For a few moments you think he's crying out of fear.
But you quickly realize the real reason he was crying had _absolutely nothing_ to do with it.....
      What a brilliantly made moment...
I only wish those emotions were exploited just a bit more than they were.

Yes, exactly. A very touching scene. When I first saw it in trailers, I laughed thinking "oh look at this fella in a suit couldn't handle some racing...." but now I see it as him being thrilled and excited by what this car can do. And sad that his father wasn't there to share that joy.
Great acting by him. Very very lovely.

Not really... 1. Gears are changed, but the only hand Shelby could use to do this, is still on the steering wheel. 2. Terrible grab of steering wheel by 'Shelby'. 3. If you want damage cylinders, pistons, and blow head gasket, drive car hard instantly after start. 4. If you want to be extra sure that head gasket will be blown up, turn the engine off straight after hard driving.

The tears, they weren't of pride. It wasn't joy. It was fear. It was shock. It was horror. His $9,000,000 built a car that 99.99% of the population of this planet have no business operating. Having just anyone driving that car is like having you or I drive the Space Shuttle. He ran Ford motor company and their business model was building ordinary cars and selling as many as they could possibly mass produce to mainstream America. That was NOT the Ford GT 1966. That car was designed for one purpose, to win a race. No air conditioning. No power steering. Maybe not even a heater. Nothing but a shockingly explosive drive where ALL the power generated by the engine went into speed, 200+ mph. You can't just put anyone in the drivers seat. It MUST be a professional race car driver and it had to be the man who helped design the car. But Ford made promises to his subordinates who were executive vice presidents so he had to get concessions from Shelby. He succeeded.

Let me sound technical here... In the original GT40, you never 'floor it' from stop unless you want to destroy the tires or the engine. You have to be gentle on it at first, only when you reach 3rd gear can you 'floor it' and then only for a brief while til the engine reaches about 6500 rpm, then you shift up to 4th gear and then you can max it up to 7000rpm for no more than about 60 seconds. Why ? The car wasn't designed for acceleration races, it was designed to win ONE 24 hours race, an endurance race.

I can tell you from personal experience that the "Deuce's" reaction is not that unusual. I've been a professional instructor for over 25 years for a slew of high performance car clubs and given hundreds of demo rides to both students and guests. The typical rider has no idea what it's like to be on a track in a car driven at or near its limit. It's an adrenaline rush to be sure even though I never drive over 8/10ths with a passenger in the car. The greatest realizations from most riders are how quickly the car can brake and how fast it can corner. If you've never experienced this, put it on your bucket list. You won't be disappointed!

I may not be a ford man, but that moment of blissful achievement on Ford’s face was something most any Legacy car guy LIVES to eventually achieve. It’s a mixture of bliss, relief, grief, joy, and extremely potent adrenalin. It’s that moment where you just FEEL exactly what your mentor must have felt at their great milestone. And once they pass the torch to you? Then you aim for the next major Milestone, and when you hit it (most likely gunning it at top speed or alternatively when the big project is finally done and looks so beautiful you’d almost beg no one to touch it until you’ve sat in it and had a good tour of every inch of the dash, made a good spot in the seat, and just stare out the windshield in awe). Those are the moments a car guy, and on a slightly more meta side, most kids who aim to live up to what they feel their parents would be proud of...it’s almost indescribable.
It’s damn near a religious experience, and it feels fantastic to have the initial weight off your shoulders. And then you saddle the next one after you can calm down and realize YOU get to set the next goal post. It’s brilliant, and can we get a freaking TOAST for this master here who captured that moment. Just, bravo man, bravo.
