This scene is one of the best scenes in all of sports movies. Not because the camera work is godly, not because the dialogue is amazing, not because the set design is so intricate. Simply because of what it represents because it actually happened. On that day he took all those kids and turned them into a hockey team. A United States hockey team.
There will never be another Coach like Coach Brooks.

He nailed the accent of Minnesotans without being "hammy" about it. Having lived in the state, I knew a couple of people who knew Herb Brooks and saw the movie. The one thing they said the movie really got wrong, was that as a coach he was incredibly foul-mouthed. The movie was a Disney feature, so figure that was the reason why that was omitted.

Although his pull of Tretiak will be forever second-guessed (justifiably, no one's perfect), Tikhonov is one of the all-time great hockey coaches as is Brooks. What Brooks did then is part of why I love Tom Izzo so much now. With Izzo it is always (as Brooks said) not about getting the best players, it's about getting the *_right_* players.

MASTERFUL acting. To this day, I'll always prefer to sit near the back of the movie theatre. The reason being that when this movie came out, WEEKS or so after the premier showing, theaters were still so packed that the only available seats for my dad, brother and me were in the very first row in the right corner. This scene still, me arching my neck to see the whole thing, put everyone in goosebumps. Was the first time I'd ever seen it, and with endless tournament trips it was far from the last time. A country needs teams like this.
