I'm an American but I grew up listening to the Stephen Fry versions of Harry Potter. I was obsessed, I listened every night for at least seven years, as well as all throughout the day. It became a sore spot for my parents actually, they hated how often I was listening to the book and not to them! Thank you Stephen, for giving me my childhood.
I listen to these audiobooks every day, I cant sleep without them. It’s the only way I can calm my mind and find some peace. I cant explain how grateful I am for them.
Stephen Fry's narration of the Harry Potter series on Audible is nothing short of magical. His voice effortlessly brings every character and scene to life, adding depth and warmth to the story. As a huge admirer of his work, I can't help but be in awe of his ability to make each listening experience so captivating and unique. No words can truly capture the brilliance he brings to every sentence-it’s like having the wizarding world read to you by a master storyteller. Simply outstanding and a true gift for fans everywhere!
I adore his rendition of these books. You really do lose the fact that you’re hearing a person telling the story. You hear the characters and the way he delivers well known lines in a fresh way is emotionally moving. It is fantastic and so glad it’s available now in the us.

Read the books many times as a kid. Once adult, i found out the audiobooks exist. Since 2015 I listen them regularly, many times over and over. He is phenomenal while voicing the characters. Brings so much color and depth. I also checked from other voice artists also on other languages. Nothing comes close to Fry’s.
I have listened only Harry Potter books on audible and i have now 3 months and 20 days of listened time. Stephen Fry is THE best reader. Your Hagrid was so spot on !
I remember learning English as a child by listening to Stephen Fry's narration of the Harry Potter books, over and over again. He was my favorite teacher and storyteller.
This is the audio book I listened to most often, compared to all the other audio books that I own. Stephen Fry did a tremendous job. The most amazing thing is that you can jump into the middle of a random scene and can tell by his voice which of the countless charaters is speaking. Stephen Fry managed to give each of them a distinct voice. It's unbelievable!
I’ve listened to these since I’ve been a child, over and over again. When I was really young, I didn’t imagine it was only one person; I pictured the entire cast of the Harry Potter films sitting in a circle in full costumes reading the book to each other. I had no idea it was only one person.
Stephen’s narration has a such massive place in my heart. A warm hug of comfort. I remember the first time listening to it as a 7 year old on a family road trip across Australia and being pulled into the world immediately and fully. Since then I’ve come back to it on numerous occasions while in all corners of the world. The amount of memories connected to his storytelling is so special to me. As a 21 year old now I know still I’ll be listening for years to come and will hopefully share the experience with my own kids one day. Thank you Stephen :)
I will listen to any audiobook Stephen Fry narrates. The Complete Sherlock Holmes is amazing. Even the forewords are great because Stephen shares some of his life stories that connect him to the Homes series.
Dear Stephen Fry, your readings of these books were perfect, and a source of repeated joy in our household- my 6 year included! Thank you so much for this gift to the world of Harry Potter ❤️
I started listening to Harry Potter when they came out on cassette, and finished with CDs. The fact it's now all digital is honestly mind blowing. And to this day, I've never read the entire series myself, took me years to realise Kreacher was spelt like that etc.
I’ve only ever listened to Jim Dale’s read of the books, but as soon as I heard there was a version read by Stephen Fry, I knew he would be an amazing reader. He’s always had an extraordinary skill with accents and voices. I hope to hear it someday.
I've listened and re-listened to his narration of all 7 books so many times 😅 30 or more times each at this stage! Thank you, Stephen, for doing such a wonderful job!
This man is the reason why I even got into Harry Potter! I loved listening to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, then my son watched Pocoyo, which was narrated by Stephen Fry, constantly! That's when my ex husband told me he reads Harry Potter, too and I was hooked on the wizarding world ever since!
I have been through the entire 7 book series countless times throughout the years from being a small child to now as an adult. I’ve gone from the cassette tapes, to the CD’s and now digitally with audible and every single time through Stephen Fry’s incredible narration and character voices I feel like I’ve been transported to a new world. Becoming a father 19 months ago I cannot wait to share the stories of my childhood with my daughter and watch her imagination grow and to fall in love with the magical world that I have cherished for so long. Thank you so much to J.K.R and Stephen Fry for enriching my life. Truly. 🙏
I was feeling depressed due to work and uni stress, but listening to Stephen Fry read out the Harry Potter books really helped me out. I really enjoyed every moment listening to him, thank you Mr Fry.
These recordings have been with me for a long long time! Im now 30 and still listen to them often, they give me comfort and confidence when i need it most. I have introduced many people to them over the years, i feel its a gift that i need to share! Thank you so much for all that you have done for me, my friends and my family by bringing these books and their characters to life. You're an inspiration.
Helped me out of depression Still keeps me in a happy place constantly re listen the story never ends Anyone who has mental health struggles find that piece of magic everyone has that one magical place stay strong it eventually lifts Love to everyone involved
I refused to read Harry Potter as a teenager. But when my children became potterheads, I wanted to talk to them about it and so I listened to the books. I loved Stephen Frys narration so much, that I listened to almost everything he voiced. So thank you Stephen to introduce me to so many great books!
@@TheDrag0nSlayer , I mean, nothing against Jim Broadbent, as he did a well with the character, but if Fry was casted, I could totally have seen it working too.
I first heard 'The Philosopher's Stone' with Stephen on CD driving on holiday in France over 20 years ago. This year we listened to the first 3 books on our holiday in France and our sons loved them. So lovely to be able to share an experience with them that I once did myself.
I am re-reading the series currently. But when I'm done with that, and have sat with it for a while, I shall get the Stephen Fry narrations and give a listen. I have already heard the Jim Dale versions two or three times, and enjoyed that quite a bit. To give a listen to the original take will be quite fun, I think.
What stands out with this work, is that Stephen KNOWS all the sentences ahead of time and puts each and every single detail into the way a quotation has to be uttered. Stephen's Dumbledore literally says those things calmly!!😅
I'm on my 5th re-listen through the entire series in the space of 2 years and I can't express in words how special Stephen's narration is in my life. The comfort of hearing an incredible, familiar story expertly narrated by Mr Fry is truly unsurpassable.
I've been listening to these books for 15+yrs! I'm so grateful for the the audio version cause I've never been able to just sit and read, I can't even listen to anyone else doing the voice, has to be Stephen Fry!
German here. Read all books since first arrival together with my son. Even now, when I am in my fifties. German narrator is also a gem. But I enjoy both from time to time. Audible makes it easy, you can grab the books when you have the urge. And it is always a pleasure and I am in. Great Entertainment ♥️👍♥️
Brought the cd version years ago for my children I was always drawn in listening with them to .. Stephen pulled off each character perfectly .. thank you for hours of great listening 🌈
The Harry Potter audiobooks were the perfect accompaniment on long lonely walks during the peak of the COVID lockdown and social distancing. It's become a bit of an addiction since then. Thank you Stephen Fry.
I have read these books so many times each that I have lost count, and yet when I found Stephen Fry's recordings, I jumped of joy, and I have listened to all 7 books more times than i can count, and keep listening over an over... He is amazing, you listen to each character and you totally forget that it is only him, even when he is "Hermione" or "Lavender" or any other female character. And every time he does the voice of Hagrid, you hear the voice of Robbie Coltrane in the movies ❤
I have read all the Harry Potter books so many time that can't remember the count, but absolute favourite thing is to listen to Stephen reading them on audio books xx His voice is just perfect for this series and I can just about read it from memory along with him. Thank you Stephen for making cleaning the house, walking the dogs or a long car journey an absolute joy xx
As a german these books helped me a lot improving my english. Not to brag but I got full marks on my spoken exam, and a terribly posh accent on top. Lost it all by now, but it was fun while it lasted. Love you Stephen
I’ve been listening to audiobooks of Harry Potter at work for years now and love Stephen Fry as narrator. I ordered CDs of his version from the UK through eBay and was wondering how I’d manage to keep them in mint condition. After years of listening “secondhand”, I’m so glad to finally be able to download directly to my devices. Thanks, Audible!
It got me the part where he was talking about the generation that grew up reading those books and how even their personality has been influenced by those characters and the story. I always say that i always find a part of myself in them. I got into this world when i was 7 now i'm 30 and i find this so nostalgic and beautiful. I really did spend lots of time reading the books and watching the films, still do from time to time. For me Potter is home, is my comfort place and part of my childhood. I'm so so thankful for it 💜
Watched movies but always felt like I'm missing out on so much since books looked like they contained so much more but I'm not a reader and never read any book so I tried listening and this gentleman so good at narrating like he does these impressions/imitation of different characters which sounds and feels so amazing to listen to. He changes his voice when he's narrating the dialogue of some character and it convincingly sounds different than his original voice and now I've started differentiating which character is talking without him telling that. Love this guy he's doing a great job. May god bless you lots of love 💕
American here! I am ashamed to say that I downloaded the Stephen Fry audiobooks on LimeWire because I just wanted the authentic experience. Growing up, I would reread the books I would say about once a year. But once I got older and started working, Stephen Fry audiobooks were with me on a lot of commutes to and from work.
I remember as a kid listening to POA read by Stephen on cassette tape in 2004, now 20 years later, month after month collecting all of the books on Audible, PEACE AT LAST, whether its at work in the morning, or when I struggle to fall asleep, just putting on the audiobook and then slowly drifting away via Stephen's narration Thank you Stephen and THANK YOU AUDIBLE 🇿🇦
Having listened to all narrators for the HP series; Stephen Fry's narration is by far the best and took me to look at his other narrations like mythos and sherlock holm. All fantastic, thank you Stephen for your hard work.
Every autumn me and my gf listen to the fantastic Stephen Fry reading HP. I wish he read all of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy books, I keep listening to the first one, only. He is SO incredibly talented as a voice actor, empath and intellectual showing in his intuition of reading.
I really can’t thank Stephen enough for his performance with those books. I was about 8 when the first one came out and I genuinely have no idea how many times I have listened to them since. I’m currently on book five right now! I don’t suppose you will read this Stephen but on the odd chance you do, thankyou.
I honestly want Stephen Fry to do ALL audiobooks. His voice and impressions are perfect. I have anxiety and his voice is so so calming. I listen to Harry Potter each night to go to sleep. British accents are so comforting to me, i wish there was more British narrators. Or Scandinavian....they sound lovely especially speaking English. Just a suggestion Audible ❤
Mr. Fry, I'm sure you don't need yet another admirer to tell you what a dazzling virtuoso you are as an actor, orator, debater and conversationalist. What seems even more remarkable is your extraordinary range of interest in and knowledge about an astonishing variety of humanity's achievements and treasures. These include, of course, your intimate familiarity with classical European mythology and literature, which are "home territory", but also a range of "hot topics" in science and technology, which clearly are not within your scope of formal education. You seem keenly interested in a wide range of humanity's creations and discoveries, and fortunately are very skilled at expressing your appreciation and understanding with great enthusiasm, eloquence, coherence and fluidity.
He's a master. I listen to the audiobooks all the time. He has a beautiful voice and his narration is absolutely amazing and so beautiful. Thank you Stephen for your energy and passion in your work 🙏
I love to read and now I love to listen while I read! I also like the flexibility that Audio provides so that I can listen while I walk or doing dishes. The Audible Narration that Stephen Fry did on the Harry Potter Books was wonderful! I also have my other favorites, Davina Porter, Will M Watt, Mary Jane Wells, Rosalyn Landor, Jeff Woodman, Simon Vance, Steven Cree, Tim Curry, & Keira Stevens. It is so wonderful how these Narrators bring the books to life! 🥰
Back in the era where you had to have a separate GPS unit, I used to have Stephen Fry as the voice for the unit. I eventually had to get rid of it, as when the GPS made mistakes (which they did back then), I still had the strongest urge trust Stephen to "turn left" even when I fully knew this was not yet my turn.
I have the Jim Dale versions, but I hear a lot of people talk about the Stephen Fry versions being the best. I might have to take a listen! It would be fun to see him in the HBO series!
I learned English with his audiobook. I re-listened every night before sleeping and it was very enjoyable. Now, I am used to learning languages like this (with audiobooks), but this was the first ever. I am very grateful for this interview. Thanks, Audible!
I have all the Jim Dale versions as he's the voice I grew up with, but I'm so excited to use my next 7 audible credits on the Stephen Fry versions! What a treat. The rest of my wish list will just have to wait 😅
Just got these on Audible and I’m loving every single moment listening to them. I’m going to listen to them across England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales soon.
I just love him so much. I listend to each HP audiobook at least 20 times and I still like it, mainly bc of stephans voice. Its wonderfully calming, almost like a meditation:)))
I can't imagine listening to Harry Potter and not hearing Stephen Fry's voice. I always imagined if I were reading a book aloud that I would pace the room and emote. I can see why I've not been asked to read.
I had no idea that listeners in the US and Canada were robbed of Stephen's incredibly rich and enjoyable narration for so long. However I'm stoked for you all that the whole series is on Audible. Enjoy folks.
What's amazing is how well Stephen's voice interpretations gel with the film actors' voices. There are no real glaring differences whether you saw the films first, or listened to the audiobooks.
Really decent kind and nice man from what I see. If you was going to look for someone as a role model on how to conduct yourself, Stephen is that person. He inspires me to be warm and polite
Absolutely love Stephen Fry as a narrator and he absolutely smashed Harry Potter series. I can't believe how much the characters and voices he created for them matched their actors so precisely WAY BEFORE THE ACTORS CAME ALONG ❤
I have the goblet of fire narrated by Stephen and it gives me so. much. joy, that I really believe Stephen added life to the book. That’s extraordinary for me because I’m quite old fashioned about books, for instance I don’t quite believe audiobooks are books. For me they’re a sort of animated book, mostly like a radio soap opera.
I’m 41 and I listen to this man read me Harry Potter every night! Can’t go to sleep without him
The best way to end the day! 🧡
"Stephen Fry: Actor" is such an understatement it hurts. Actor, director, comedian, best-selling author, documentarian, national treasure, etc
International treasure, to be sure. I adore this man.
He is brilliant and SO talented.
You forgot owner of an AGA!
Couldn't agree more!
Couldn't have said it better.

This is so pure and well written! We appreciate you taking the time to share this. 🫶
I will listen to any audiobook Stephen Fry narrates. The Complete Sherlock Holmes is amazing. Even the forewords are great because Stephen shares some of his life stories that connect him to the Homes series.
He is such an adept storyteller! 🎙️ ✨
I suffer from insomnia and night terrors, Stephen fry helped me out also the most consistent thing in the last two decades.
nightmares?
Dear Stephen Fry, your readings of these books were perfect, and a source of repeated joy in our household- my 6 year included! Thank you so much for this gift to the world of Harry Potter ❤️
I started listening to Harry Potter when they came out on cassette, and finished with CDs. The fact it's now all digital is honestly mind blowing.
And to this day, I've never read the entire series myself, took me years to realise Kreacher was spelt like that etc.
Stephen Fry’s Harry Potter and Andy Serkis Lord of the Rings have kinda become the soundtrack to my life, I just keep looping from one to the other.
Two iconic stories that never get old! 🙌
Then try Phil Dragash version of lotr, beyond amazing with music from the films and awesome voicing for all the characters! :)
@@ManUtd1337this. So great!
go listen to the much better robert ingles lotr and the jim dale harry potter audiobooks
I’ve only ever listened to Jim Dale’s read of the books, but as soon as I heard there was a version read by Stephen Fry, I knew he would be an amazing reader. He’s always had an extraordinary skill with accents and voices. I hope to hear it someday.
Both version are absolutely worth the listen -- they each bring their own unique magic!
I've listened and re-listened to his narration of all 7 books so many times 😅 30 or more times each at this stage! Thank you, Stephen, for doing such a wonderful job!
It's one we never get tired of listening to. 🧡
He’s so brilliant in the audiobooks. Think I’ve done them all about 4 times!
His narration of HP is the best. He’s a brilliant narrator.
We can't get enough - he's a treasure!
Truly. 🙏
My total listening time on audible is 7 months, 22 days, 10hrs and 33 minutes. Most of that is listening to Stephen Fry! ❤❤
These are great numbers! What are you currently listening to? 🤩
@@audible I'm listening to twilight at the moment but will be going back to Harry Potter again 😅
Back-to-back wins! 🙌
I was feeling depressed due to work and uni stress, but listening to Stephen Fry read out the Harry Potter books really helped me out. I really enjoyed every moment listening to him, thank you Mr Fry.
Stephen's narration is just pure perfection! 💜
Is someone cutting onions? 🥺 🧡
Helped me out of depression
Still keeps me in a happy place constantly re listen the story never ends
Anyone who has mental health struggles find that piece of magic everyone has that one magical place stay strong it eventually lifts
Love to everyone involved
He is truly the voice of the story. His love and reverence for the series and the characters is so impactful.
I refused to read Harry Potter as a teenager. But when my children became potterheads, I wanted to talk to them about it and so I listened to the books. I loved Stephen Frys narration so much, that I listened to almost everything he voiced. So thank you Stephen to introduce me to so many great books!
It's never too late to love the magic of 'Harry Potter', and Stephen does a phenomenal job bringing the stories to life. 🙌 👏
No lie, I can totally have seen this dude being casted for Horace Slughorn.
What a weird thing to lie about.
@@TheDrag0nSlayer , I mean, nothing against Jim Broadbent, as he did a well with the character, but if Fry was casted, I could totally have seen it working too.
Should’ve been dumbledore
He would’ve been a great Ludo Bagman.
I first heard 'The Philosopher's Stone' with Stephen on CD driving on holiday in France over 20 years ago.
This year we listened to the first 3 books on our holiday in France and our sons loved them. So lovely to be able to share an experience with them that I once did myself.
You have help me though some hard time with reading them books. I've lost count on how many times I've listened to them. Thank you so much
We're so glad to hear these audiobooks have been a source of comfort for you during tough times. We're honored to be part of your journey 🧡
While I grew up with Jim Dale as my harry potter narrator Steven Fry's version has grown on me over the years.
They're both SO good! Now you can switch things up whenever you listen.
What stands out with this work, is that Stephen KNOWS all the sentences ahead of time and puts each and every single detail into the way a quotation has to be uttered. Stephen's Dumbledore literally says those things calmly!!😅
Dale is a lovely man, but Fry nailed these 100%. The characters, the tone... perfection.
I'm on my 5th re-listen through the entire series in the space of 2 years and I can't express in words how special Stephen's narration is in my life. The comfort of hearing an incredible, familiar story expertly narrated by Mr Fry is truly unsurpassable.
We will never stop listening to this performance! Who are some of your favorite characters that Fry narrates, Ben? ✨ 👀
I've been listening to these books for 15+yrs! I'm so grateful for the the audio version cause I've never been able to just sit and read, I can't even listen to anyone else doing the voice, has to be Stephen Fry!
I've listened to the HP books so many times listening to Stephen Fry telling it. I've never gotten bored of listening to him.
His performance is incredible! Who are some of your favorite characters from the series? ✨ 🤔
Love to hear stories like this, and so glad to make reading easier for you!
We could not have said it any better! An absolute masterclass. 🎙️ ✨
I have read all the Harry Potter books so many time that can't remember the count, but absolute favourite thing is to listen to Stephen reading them on audio books xx
His voice is just perfect for this series and I can just about read it from memory along with him.
The power of audiobooks! This is so cool, thank you for sharing. 💪
He also killed it in the Sherlock Holmes books -can’t recommend them enough!
He doesn't miss! 🔥
I would love to hear Stephen Fry narrate the Terry Pratchett books❤
I’ve been listening to audiobooks of Harry Potter at work for years now and love Stephen Fry as narrator. I ordered CDs of his version from the UK through eBay and was wondering how I’d manage to keep them in mint condition. After years of listening “secondhand”, I’m so glad to finally be able to download directly to my devices. Thanks, Audible!
We appreciate you! 👍
This is exactly what happened for me and my wife - we road-tripped Canada over a month and listened to almost all of the audio books. Great times!
This is such a pure vibe! 🌲 ✨
I'm so so thankful for it 💜
This was beautifully written, Davinia! We appreciate you sharing and feel the same way about this magical series.
I remember as a kid listening to POA read by Stephen on cassette tape in 2004, now 20 years later, month after month collecting all of the books on Audible, PEACE AT LAST, whether its at work in the morning, or when I struggle to fall asleep, just putting on the audiobook and then slowly drifting away via Stephen's narration
Thank you Stephen and THANK YOU AUDIBLE
🇿🇦
🧡 🙌
Having listened to all narrators for the HP series; Stephen Fry's narration is by far the best and took me to look at his other narrations like mythos and sherlock holm. All fantastic, thank you Stephen for your hard work.
Every autumn me and my gf listen to the fantastic Stephen Fry reading HP. I wish he read all of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy books, I keep listening to the first one, only. He is SO incredibly talented as a voice actor, empath and intellectual showing in his intuition of reading.
He's definitely a treasure! It's amazing how the right narrator can help you create cherishable memories.
Thank you Stephen for your energy and passion in your work 🙏
🧡 🙌
I love to read and now I love to listen while I read! I also like the flexibility that Audio provides so that I can listen while I walk or doing dishes. The Audible Narration that Stephen Fry did on the Harry Potter Books was wonderful! I also have my other favorites, Davina Porter, Will M Watt, Mary Jane Wells, Rosalyn Landor, Jeff Woodman, Simon Vance, Steven Cree, Tim Curry, & Keira Stevens. It is so wonderful how these Narrators bring the books to life! 🥰
Everyone on this list is so talented! Happy listening. 🎧 👍
Davina porter definitely one of my favourites too!
been listening to stephen fry's harry potter audiobooks every night since i was 12. cannot live without
His Hagrid and Dobby sounds exactly like in the movie versions.
It's really like watching a movie in your mind!
I have listened to these so many times, it's ludicrous. I love them so much.
We love both! Give it a listen and see which is your fave.
I love Jim Dale too. But Stephen Fry is extraordinary.
Thank you so much Stephen Fry. You are a global treasure.
I learned English with his audiobook. I re-listened every night before sleeping and it was very enjoyable. Now, I am used to learning languages like this (with audiobooks), but this was the first ever. I am very grateful for this interview. Thanks, Audible!
What a great and fun way to learn the language!
I have all the Jim Dale versions as he's the voice I grew up with, but I'm so excited to use my next 7 audible credits on the Stephen Fry versions! What a treat. The rest of my wish list will just have to wait 😅
Both narrators are exceptionally talented, and each brings their own unique magic to this story! You're in for a real treat ✨
Just got these on Audible and I’m loving every single moment listening to them.
I’m going to listen to them across England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales soon.
These will be perfect for you travels! 👏
This is the best news ever. I have the Jim Dale collection and have been dying to hear the Stephen Fry narration.
We are so excited to bring you another way to listen to this iconic story! ✨ 🎧
And next year they have a full cast reading releasing
I found the audio books recently and just started book 7. The moment he started reading, I was hooked. Love his voice and his voice acting - fabulous!
Stephen Fry is one of those amazing people and voices that when he's gone the world will feel more empty.
His voice is truly iconic.
What's amazing is how well Stephen's voice interpretations gel with the film actors' voices. There are no real glaring differences whether you saw the films first, or listened to the audiobooks.
This is so well said! Which character that Stephen narrates is your favorite? 🎙️ 🔥
@@audible I really like the teachers. Snape and McGonagall have to be my top characters.
Two fantastic choices! We appreciate you sharing, and hope you have a great rest of your day. 😃
I couldn’t finish the last one he nails the Dobby death scene so well I can’t listen without sobbing 😭
We listen when we need a good cry. 🥺
Really decent kind and nice man from what I see. If you was going to look for someone as a role model on how to conduct yourself, Stephen is that person. He inspires me to be warm and polite
And he has one of the most calming voices that makes it so easy to get lost in a story.
Absolutely love Stephen Fry as a narrator and he absolutely smashed Harry Potter series. I can't believe how much the characters and voices he created for them matched their actors so precisely WAY BEFORE THE ACTORS CAME ALONG ❤
It is truly a masterpiece. ⚡ 🎤
I have listened to many audiobooks and he is bar far the best narrator I've ever heard. So thankful he's done these books!
His talent is exceptional. We're so glad to hear you've enjoyed them 🧡
I have the goblet of fire narrated by Stephen and it gives me so. much. joy, that I really believe Stephen added life to the book. That’s extraordinary for me because I’m quite old fashioned about books, for instance I don’t quite believe audiobooks are books. For me they’re a sort of animated book, mostly like a radio soap opera.
We completely agree! Absolutely magical. 💫 🧡
