Also, the name 3d Coat suggests that it's only a uv painting application. I had no idea that 3d coat could do sculpting... maybe a rebranding is in order here, i dunno?
I've heard they would be considering adding solid modelling capabilities, like Plasticity, this would greatly enhance its value. Competing against Blender isn't easy, however, what Blender lacks, 3D Coat does greatly. Even with the most trusted addons for Blender, it still cannot match the capabilities and interop within 3DC. From a pipeline standpoint, rather than have them compete, they compliment each other very very well, letting Blender handle rendering, modelling and procedural materials, while 3D Coat can do the heavy lifting in sculpting, retopo, UVs, and layered texture paint. If they manage to include the solids modelling workflow it would certainly be a game changer. A full asset pipeline could be accomplished within 3D Coat from a wide range of approaches: sculpting, modelling and CAD like solids. Hopefully they will keep improving on the pain points and still deliver a solid multi tool.
My only gripe is i cant find resources to actually learn it. Honestly most of the tutorials are like 8 years old and never updated or any attempt made to make new tutorial series.
Same here. I've had 3D coat for about 7 months now. All the tutorials are super old and outdated. Can't find any use for the software right now so i kinda gave up on it until something changes.
@@ElricTheFullMetal This has been a concern with the software for ages. I first came in contact with it in 2022 and learnt it on my own by trial and error and watching the few up to date videos of it on UA-cam. However, now that I am fluent enough in the software, looking back at the videos in their channel, I can tell the features are all explained there, despite old, the funcionality is basically the same. It is, however, unnatractive. One can feel an old video will not include the most recent features or UI changes, but not only that, the info appears scattered throughout the channel. I hope to be making videos going over workflows, features and settings, hopefully helping alleviate the tutorial situation and making 3DC more accessible to others.
Interestingly, another app that suffers from a lack of good tutorials is the vector drawing app, *VectorStyler.* And what tuts are available are narrated in English by this French fellow with an accent as thick as a week-old _baguette._ Thanks a lot. the only thing that i don't like in 3d coat is ... the UI .... it's really old i hope they will change it to more modern one ... just the case with blender 2.8
Blender is the only 3D software company who has done a UI overhaul. Maya and 3ds Max's UI is literally from the 90's...with just some minor cosmetic improvements over the years. Why does 3DCoat have to constantly keep changing it's UI to suit all the critics, when virtually no other 3D software has? They did a complete UI overhaul in V3 and a complete replacement of the icons throughout the app in v2021 and continued to make more improvements with each release...but none of the critics ever give them credit for this. I mean some of the critics here say they hate the TEXT tool buttons. This shows how little they know about 3DCoat, because the ability to use icons only, has been a feature of 3DCoat for several years.
@@dnashj33 I agree, but honestly if we critic UI the first to put in the top is ZBrush, the developers have their brains backward, is a damn torture to work on it, they just recently added a poor nav system that helps but doesn't fix the issue, the learning curve of Zbrush is mostly around the idiotic UI.

I tried 3D coat but I was tired of its bugs. And when I switched to Zbrush it was a grasp of fresh air. 3D coat has some interesting ideas but the realisation is awful.
nope, I've tried this and to be frank it sucks, the only good thing about this software is painting mode, but there is 3d coat textura and it is really good for painting models, but modeling reallllllly sucks.

I dont get why these whole better videos come out.. its objectively not. The UI has been the main issue for years with no correction. Its horrible n confusing. Blender fixed theirs. If ur using 3dcoat for painting an retopo then that's a waste bc you can do the same in Blender with plug-ins for the fraction of the price.
Blender is the only 3D software that has done a major UI overhaul. Users have been complaining about ZBrush's foreign UI for 2 decades now and it has not fundamentally changed.
